Sample and sample instrument folder

hi all,
I'm asking some basic question, but wish can get some help!!!
First, i want to move all the jam pack to an external audio disk. i understand logic can locate automatic when i drag the loops in loops browser.
But my main question is how about the sample and instrument folder? Should keep in computer harddisk? Or any good teach?
Second, About song setting question.
In my case, i basiclly only work with my powerbook. So do i need select this "copy EXS instruments to project folder" in Preference? Or if i want backup song as seperate file, then i should select it?
Many thanks....

The samples themselves, can reside anywhere. The .exs instrument files however, must remain in either the ~user>Library>Application support>Logic>Sampler Instruments folder, or the System Drive>Library>Application support>Logic>Sampler Instruments folder. Or at least an alias must reside there.
These are the 2 places the EXS will look for it's instruments. It will also look in the song folder, and see if there is a "Sampler Instruments" folder there as well. Which deals with your second question...
If you have a "Core" library... meaning you use the same sounds, from the same libraries, and never really alter them or change them from song to song, then it doesn't necessarily make sense to enable the "copy EXS" check box.
But if you have heavily edited an .exs instrument for a specific song, or have made a new EXS instrument specifically for a song, then I think it makes sense to do that.
And as far as archiving a song, once it's finished, it's probably a good idea to enable that box as well. Even if you think you'll always have a sample set around on your hard drive(s). A lot can change in your set up in a year or two's time. Better safe than sorry...

  • EXS Factory Samples And Sampler Instruments Duplicates and Missing Legacy

since updating and comparing to my macbook which i havent updated, it seems there are missing exs factory samples. for example on new logic 9 there are 2 folders exs factory samples which have 01 through 09 folders. the sampler instruments folder has 01 through 12 and folder 12 legacy instruments which on my mac book in sampler instruments have 01 thru 10 then skips to 26 to 41
ann ex factory folder on mac book 01 thru 10 folders and 10 legacy folder contains 01 thru 10 then skips to 27 thru 38. what is going on . why are there missing files in new upgrade i did on main computer? and how do i get all the exs samples and what should they be?

This problem began,i think in Logic 8.....when you install LP8 normally the EXS instruments and Legacy EXS there were always some missing that I was used to using..I found them eventually, they were now part of the the Garageband instrument Library.
I went back and searched all the install DVDs until I found them showing up..some EXS instruments would be missing the actual samples which were now part of the Garageband instrument library,Attitude Bass being one I remember off hand.
I just copied all the Instruments and samples I needed and got rid of the rest which amounts to a lot of space being freed up.
Now I just keep a backup of all my EXS files on external drive so I dont need to install them every upgrade as in Logic 9 (which I checked just in case there were any new files etc!)..which also sorts out the duplicate files headache.
    Hope this helps.....

  • Difference between Sampler and Sampler Player?

What is the difference between a Sampler and a Sample Player (software)? Which one does Logic Express and Logic Pro have?

Hi. Theres plenty of stuff on the web about what a sampler is, but in short its a device that records and playsback samples of sound that you choose to use, and allows playback and manipulation such as accross a keyboard or timestretch etc.
Logic Pro has one called the EXS24 Its a software based sampler (rather than being a stanbdalone box).
Logic Express has the EXSP24, which is playback software only. Unfortunately this cannot record samples, just play back those already stored within LE when you load the player and choose the samples.
    Hope this helps.

  • Where to drop EXS24 samples and corresponding instrument files?

Forgive the ultra-noobness of this question. Searching has given no answers.
I want to install third party EXS samples of trumpet sounds. I understand that the EXS instrument file has a corresponding .wav or .aiff sample file.
Where should they be stored so EXS can play them?

    Found it.
    EXS Instrument files-> User/Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments
    Samples folder -> User/Library/Application Support/Logic/Samples

  • Samples and Sample Rate

    Hi there!
If i have 16bit, 44.1kHz samples loaded in the EXS24 and my current project is set to have a sample rate of 48kHz, will there be any "upconversion" by Logic to automatically play the samples properly, or should i manually convert the samples (or can i write a script?)
    Thanks in advance.

The ESX24 reads the original sample rate and spits things out at the rate of the project. No conversion needed on your end.

  • Why can't EXS find my instruments and samples?

Why can't EXS find my Instruments and Samples?
    LPX 10.0.7
I have had issues with this problem before, and have spent a few hours looking throughout the many related threads on this forum and on Logic Pro Help without finding a workable solution.  So I will jump in again and hope for someone to shed some light on this.
Here is the scenario- I have two rigs, one in my studio and another on my laptop (2.5 gh Intel core 2 Duo with 4GB RAM). I have a duplicate of my sample library on a portable drive, which I take with me when I'm using my laptop. I recently copied a Project I'm working on from the portable drive to my main system. When I open the project, I get a message telling me that certain (not all) EXS files are not found.
    Some further pertinent info:
I have not saved the EXS files with the project- the project uses a sizable template and that would be cumbersome.
All of the EXS instruments/samples in the Project are there on both my internal sample drive and the portable drive.
The aliases linking my Application support Logic folder and the sample drive are correct and in place.
This happens whether I have the portable drive mounted on my main rig or not. And whether I open the Project from the portable drive or from the copy on the internal drive.
I have reindexed the internal sample drive with Spotlight. Didn't help.
I have refreshed the Instrument menu from within EXS. Didn't seem to do anything.
    Anyone?

Hi Sig! Thank you very much for your reply. But my version is iLife 11, and it should have an iWeb and iDVD

  • Sampler Instruments Folder in Root or User to put additional exs files

is it best to keep all sampler instruments in Root folder? i notice thats where it installs the origional ex samples and instruments. but i have converted giga and akai as well as other exs sample instruments i made. is it ok to put them all in the root or are they supposed to go in User/ sampler instruments or does it matter?
    thanks

You can put them anywhere, as long as there are *identically named aliases* of the containing folders in either the root or the Users folder.
Logic puts 'Convertees' by default in the Users folder, I believe.
Whether it is best I cannot tell you, that depends on your use. If you use lots of EXS instruments in a project it may be advantageous to have all sound content on a a dedicated disk, to avoid too much traffic to and from the Startup volume, possibly leading to Logic reacting sluggishly.
    regards, Erik.

  • Soundfont samples and folder locations

I've noticed that when importing Soundfont folders, Logic creates the necessary EXS files in HD/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments -- which is where the source SF2 files are kept.
However, it also creates a separate 'Soundfont Samples' folder with the original .wav files extracted, but puts it in a different directory -
    User/Application Support/Logic/Soundfont Samples
Anyone know why it does this? Why doesn't it put this folder together in the 'main' directory on the HD with everything else (ie - in one place), and instead places this folder in my user account directory? Is there a setting someplace to change this?
    Thanks!

ha! they still have a couple of my own FLAs in that zip file

  • Sample instruments folder driving me nuts

I'll apologize in advance, but I've checked up and down here and seem to have missed it, but everytime I try to put anything into the sample instruments folder, it won't go. I understand the differences between samples and files and all the rest, it's just a problem getting the actual information into the sample instruments folder. Is there something I need to turn off in order to load my samples? Thanks for the help...

You may be trying to put your samples in the systems drives library, which by default, is locked.
I believe it's Apple's intention for you to add your own samples to the user(~)>Library>Application Support>Logic>Sampler Instruments folder.
But beyond that, that's really where the .exs files should reside, and the samples themselves should be in another location, other than the sampler instruments folder. Having the samples themselves in there, will severely slow down the time it takes Logic to launch, and that will get slower the more samples you add in there, because Logic scans that folder on start up.

  • Get back Shared Workspace Pages and Sample content folder

    Hi,
We deleted Shared Workspace pages and Sample content folder in Workspace, due to client's insistence. Now they want it back, as they liked the earlier view better.
Is there a way to get these folders back? Any help will be appreciated.

Did you delete them delete them or simply remove them from the user preferences
To figure that out go to Explore and then select View from your drop down and select "Show hidden"
You should see a folder called "Shared Workspace Pages". If you see it and Inside you have Homepage then you haven't truely nuked it and add it back through preferences.
If you totally nuked it. Then someone else might have the trick for adding it back but if you have a server I would nose around in (for 11.1.1.3 and different depending on which version you are using) to see if you can see the files in question.

  • Third party instruments, samples and/or effects?

    Hey All,
is it possible to add new drum samples, instruments, or effects to Garageband for Ipad? I am really happy with the program, but i feel that in time the native sample- and effect packs will start to bore me.
    best,
    Jens

If you upgrade to GarageBand 2.0.5 you can buy the Red Loops, available for a limited time this week only.

  • Need help with API and sample code for checking a user's rights on a folder

    Hi All,
I am working on an UCM integration where user supplies a folderpath (ucm folders), and a file is later uploaded to this location.
Since a user can provide a folderpath where he has only Read Access or no access at all, we are trying to work out a way to pre-check his permissions on the folder.
Since we have Entity Security enabled, we have 5 security fields to rely on Account, Security Group, User Access List, Group Access List, Role Access List.
Writing custom code for this security check is second on our agenda.
Firstly, we wish to know the API and sample code that typically performs this Security Check in UCM.
We could find intradoc.shared.SecurityUtils which has methods to check security on SGroup and Account, but we couldn't find anything for:
    1) Overall security check
    2) ACL security check on top of sgroup and account security check

    Any ideas anyone?!
I am looking forward to some pointers here. :(

  • Samples and tutorials folder

    Guys,
Is it possible to download the samples and tutorials folder
that came with Flash 8 anywhere. I've picked up some literature

CS3. As a new user to Flash, this leaves me in a hard place.
    Can anyone help at all?

  • SSD: for OS and apps, or for samples and audio?

I'm thinking about adding a 256 gig solid state drive; I currently have two 1TB drives. I tend to use large sample-based instruments - Play, Ivory, Vienna, Kontakt, Omnisphere, etc. - but not particularly great track counts. If I used it as the startup disk, 256 gigs would be way more than enough (because audio and video files are on other disks.) As a sample disk it would hold my most demanding and most often used libraries.
What would be the most efficient use of that SSD speed - OS and apps, or streaming samples and audio?

Thanks for the recommendation on size. I found a great answer to my question about file locations at:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12293000#12293000
Using the advanced Options (control click the active admin account) in the accounts pane in System Preferences, one can specify a new location for the home folder. Very practical and way easier than trying to go into all the app's libraries to tell them where their files are.
Now I can just copy my home folder to the internal drive, and delete it on the SSD. After a restart, this new location will be recognized as the correct home folder.
