Sample Capacity of Logic?

Looking for definitive answers, please:
Does Logic have a pre-defined limit on the # of GB's of RAM it can allocate for samples?
Is Logic's use of RAM split in any way between sample RAM and non-sampler plug-in RAM?
Thanks.

Well, seems like Logic can handle up to 4GB - which means 3.7 GB content - most often exs users can get a max of 2.7-3 GB. (for that your computer should have preferable more than 5GB RAM of course) I think 2.7 GB is the point until which Logic is still running stable or so.
But OSX as a top-modern media-OS only allows an app to load 10xxx files - at that point I have most often 800 MB free RAM out of 2.2GB. This reminds me a bit of the early Windows days and the "who will ever need more than 640 kB" thingy .....

My understanding is that if it was purchased throught the App Store, then there is no requirement for a serial number. At which point does it ask you for the serial?

  • Is there any way to have a COMPLETE list of all samples and loops ( Logic 8

I'm sure it's been posted previously, but anyway, I'm looking to buy new Apple Loops libraries and I have faced the fact , that many of the sounds and loops produced by third parties manufacturers have been already included in Logic installation discs.
I have a list of Apple Loops DVD's that have been included with Logic somewhere, the problem is, Apple didn't post ( I believe) the credits of all 3rd party manufacturers that have produced these libraries that are included with Logic or Garage band. Is there any way to have a COMPLETE list of all samples and loops that are included with Apple DAW's so I wouldn't duplicate anything ? I'm pretty much positive that Apple had other companies to sound design and sample all libraries for them, so is there also a way to have a list of those manufacturers? Again, the objection is to start upgrading the sound library without any possible duplication?
    Thanks in advance!

Chris, I certainly don't mind additional questions and postings.
I believe there are many issues with Apple Loops and Logic that need to be resolved and people need to be aware of that. Unfortunately, in opposite to the old "german" version of Logic , there's no lifetime tech support, you can't even call and ask the question after 60 days , which isn't right for a professional software of this level, especially considering the fact that many things still remain vague in Logic even for developers and tech support people!( believe me, I've called and asked!)
Issues like that need to be resolved over the phone with the company, period!
One thing I also learned over the years as a Mac OSX user, if something doesn't work, don't mess with it. Delete your drive and re-install everything. This is very frustrating , I know, but unfortunately this is the only way to deal with OSX issues, if you got a problem with your system, don't try to fix it. It's never gonna be the same again. I know , it's off the topic a little bit, but if your content is missing from the system files, before installing your new Logic, back up your important files, wipe up your drive and clean install Mac OSX , run updates and then install the Logic. Most likely , everything will be in it's place, at least 90% or more. I gave up trying to make two system in my house to be compatible 100% , but it's OK if they're 90% or more identical. I spent enormous amount of time trying to find out what's missing and where, I visited most of the forums and there's no clean answer.

  • How to save kontakt sample files in Logic Pro X project?

    Hi,
I'm using Kontakt (Komplete, Native Instruments) as my samples for my midi in Logic Pro X, and my sample libraries are stored in an external hard drive which I bring around.
I need to send my Logic file over to another computer which will not have my hard drive that contains my sample libraries.
Is there a way to save my Kontakt Sample midi files together with Logic's folder, so when I open Logic without my ext Hard Drive, the midi can still be read?
I tried clicking Save As --> Organize my project as a "Folder", and ticked EVERYTHING --- Audio Files, EXS instruments and samples, Ultrabeat samples, Space Designer impulse responses, Movie file, Include Apple Sound Library Content.
But when I unplugged my external hard drive (which my sample files are stored), and clicked open that logic file which i saved, windows pop up saying it cannot locate my samples.
Is this a bug in Logic Pro X, or am I doing something wrong?
Or is it totally not possible to copy sample files over?

    Hi
Logic will not copy over any 3rd party samples etc. If you really need to, you would need to copy the appropriate libraries manually, though with Kontakt, some libraries would need to be re-authorised.

  • Logic sampler, i need to put my e mu e4xt ultra samples into my logic pro

i have my e mu 4xt ultra samples on my desk top. they show up as .e4b
i need to convert them to .exs so they will line up in my logic sampler.
    how can i do this?
    aaron

I believe you are mistaken, I'm afraid. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Logic EXS24 doesn't read EMU format samples - just AKAI and .gig files (and soundfonts).
But there are a couple commercial programs out there that can convert EMU disks. The one I use is called 'Translator' by Chicken Systems. Unfortunately, I'm not a big fan of the product which has always been extremely buggy.
Nevertheless, it did do the EMU translations for me. I also noticed a recent announcement from them about a new program. May be worth a look.
There's another translator program out there, but I don't remember the name. Do a search on KVR... There are more options on the PC if you have (or can borrow) one.
    cheers.

  • How do i import a sample cd into logic?.....akai/emu cd-rom

    hi,i bought a sample cd a while ago..drum sounds.
akai/emu cd-rom...theres a bunch of audio tracks with it...which i assume are just for previewing the kits etc....
but theres also other sections....mixed mode...where is aiff files of like say a bunch of kicks....and a bunch of hats....but they are not cut up into individual hits..... so for previewing only?
and theres another section called akai cd-rom....i think this is the section to use, individual hits and kits to play etc.
i managed to import the cd-rom a long time ago on my PC, but made a mess out of it..i think i used kontakt or some other VST ... to convert the akai format.... i think..... into normal wavs....
would it be the same process now on the mac and logic pro???
i guess i wanna use the sounds in exs24....and ultrabeat.....
would exs24 be able to work with this cd-rom? would it need to convert first?
i do recall on my pc when i did it along time ago.... theres were just tons of folders for kits and partitions....not easy to work with at all......
im wondering if exs24 can actually import and make kits at the same time....so i dont have to manually go back and import the sounds into exs24 again....
    any help would be great....
    thanks. ....

theres an option how the akai cd imports.....(in exs24)
would it be ok if i imported the cd a couple of diff ways into exs24.....and looked at how the samples were organised in the exs24? ....and then just get rid of the excess one??
is it easy to delete an instrument?

  • Sample Storage For Logic

Hi, I am planning on purchasing some samples from East West. Since the samples are huge in terms of data (35gb for the pro end sample), I need some advice as to the best way to store them.
    Question.
    1. Is it wise to load them on an external drive (like a glyph GT) and then just pull the samples into Logic as and when I need them. Normally when I make a project in Logic, I store all the samples in the folder for that project.
    2. Should I install them on an internal drive? Any benefits for this against the external drive option?
    3. Don't do either, and just browse the DVD's as and when needed.
I intend to purchase several sample libraries and really need some professional input as to the best way of handling the size of the data.
I am using a Mac Deskstop Pro, Logic (latest version) and Presonus FP10.... eventually will be upgrading to Apogee Essemble.....

Thanks, for the feedback. From your experience does it matter if the drive is internal or external? My Glyph drives are only 400 firewire transfer rate.

  • Classic Analog Arpeggiator sound sample on the Logic Pro Site

Does anyone know how to duplicate the Classic Analog Arpeggiator sample demonstrated on the Logic Pro X site?
http://www.apple.com/logic-pro/plugins-and-sounds/ > Plug-ins and Sounds > Keyboard Sounds > scroll down the page to Arpeggiator and MIDI Plug-ins. The Classic Analog sample is below the Arpeggiator.

What you use for a sound is up to you..... but there are many presets for both the ES2 and the Retro synth you could use with a but of tweaking...
Tip: Play around with the Cutoff and Resonance controls.... in the synth itself or via the Smart Controls if they are assigned...
    As for the sequencer pattern....
Set up the midi sequencer like this to get the same sort of pattern at 120 bpm.... starting off from the default, and make these changes as per the screenshot below.
Now play notes at the lower end of the keyboard and you should get something close depending on the synth sound you choose...

  • Old seetings but none Samples after installing Logic Studio

    Hi
If I select a seeting for an SoftwareInstrument like Strings - Logic says it could not find the samples. I installed Logic more than one times now and the problem is still the same. I also are not interessted that much in have this samples but it is a little bit annoying to try a setting and and waiting for loading something that could not be found. So, is there a way to renew the list of settings or of course better to get the samples. I don´t mean samples of another company. Just talking about the Logic internal things.
Hope someone could help me out.
    Thanks Martin

It's a known issue with the L8 installer which has been posted here many times now. There are a lot of helpful threads - use the Search function and type "missing samples" and you will find the answer.

  • Question about the EXSP24 sampler (or any other samples) bundled with Logic

Are there any Clarinet samples in Logic?
Are there any French Horn samples in Logic as well?
I'm not looking for loops, just samples (like the ones for trumpet, tenor sax etc.)
If not, how would I find these and place them in the application so I could use them in Logic Express.
    Thanks from the NEWBIE.
    Mark

I think you probably mean the Garageband instruments that you use with Logic - I'm not sure if Clarinet and French Horn come with Garageband so if they aren't there you'd need to buy the appropriate Apple Jam Pack or get something similar elsewhere (Google 'Orchestral samples' for some free ones) - the Jam Packs are pretty good quality sounds on the whole and good value for money.
If you want something better quality you'd need to be looking at something like the Mirosalav Vitous sets which are very pricy but you can get brilliant results from them with a bit of effort.

  • Sample rate of Logic?

I am exporting from Logic at48khz and wondered what is the highest quality I can export at...what is the sample rate at which Logic records?

The sample rate is determined by the setting on your audio interface, not by Logic. That setting should be mirrored in your project settings. And although I don't have a MOTU, I know it can do 48 kHz. You may want to consult its' manual for that. I also know that 48 kHz is its' highest possible setting. Logic can record any sampling frequency  - but the Audio Interface has to be able to provide it.

so is there some way of making Quick time the default player for an external harddrive?
Drusif, not really.  As Christopher notes, you can set the default by file type, but not by drive location.
What I suggest you do is to set QuickTime (or some other non-iTunes player) as the default for all music files.  Then, when you find something you plan to keep, add it to your iTunes library.

  • Migrating EXS Samples. Logic 6.4 - 8

    Hello.
I'm transferring my work from and old g4 powerbook to a new intel Macbook Pro.
I have a lot of unfinished projects on the Powerbook. What is the procedure for transferring my EXS library across?
If I copy the Sampler Instruments folder over, and the samples themselves, will Logic 8 find them? In fact I have no idea where Logic 8 stores samples for the EXS?
Just wondering if there is anything I need to know/watch out for...
    thanks

Turns out I spoke too soon.
The EXS sampler cannot load the samples I have moved over. It says they are 'not found'. For example I have a drum breaks exs instrument that contains maybe 80 drum loops. When the sampler opens it says it can't find the files, but the name of them seems to have been changed. Random letters and numbers have been added. For example there is a drum break entitled
    AfricanMusic_Machine_-Tropical.wav
But Logic says it can't find AfricanMusicMachineAEE36.wav
When I check the sample's name outside of logic it looks ok again.
Some of the samples load. But very few. If I go to the instrument editor the samples' names are present but they have an explanation mark next to them.
If I click on the exclamation mark and choose 'Open Audio File', I choose the correct file from my sample library but Logic says 'File name too long'.
Any help here would be much appreciated. Is there something I'm missing?
My move from a pb 1.5 to a MBP 2.4 has been totally plagued with problems (not just in Logic) and I'm beginning to wish I'd stayed with a G4 setup. The Trilogy and Atmosphere wrappers are pathetic (I am using them extensively in many an unfinished project)and I can't get Stylus to transfer over in my tracks either. The tracks are bare skeleton versions of what they were, nothing seems to be loading right.
    It's all very frustrating.

  • Can I tell Logic where my samples are?!

    Hi.
I have 4 internal drives in my mac pro and 2 external.
When i load up amn EXS24 instrument, sample or project logic goes mental trying to find the samples and it takes AGES!
Any way of telling logic "this is my sample drive," "this is my project drive?"
    Thanks

Well, if your samples are not in the location saved in the instrument, then Logic will have to search for them.
If your Spotlight indexes are good and those drives are indexed, this should be very quick.
If not, or you haven't indexed those drives, the searches will be slow or fail to find the samples. You sampler instruments will need relinking - the fastest/simplest way of doing this is with Redmatica's EXS/ProManager, which will find and relink the samples in your sampler instruments in one batch.
