Sample libraries for EXS24?

Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for add-on sample libraries in EXS24 format.
Any good ones?

Are the AKAI samples good? If so, how does one obtain them?
Yes, many developers developed libraries for the Akai format back when the Akai samplers were considered top of line hardware. One such company was none-other than Spectrasonics.

Others included Ilio

And Sonic Reality

As mentioned, Kirk Hunter still releases his orchestral stuff in native EXS format. But yes, a lot of the Akai library is a good place to start, and the built in Akai to EXS conversion works really well (at least it did back 3 or 4 years ago when I converted my whole Akai Library to EXS).
Also, GIGA 2 or 2.5 libraries can be converted as well. There is more required on the back-end to fix some programming that doesn't come across, but if you have a handle on the EXS, and it's editor, it's all doable.

  • "No Mac Can Handle" professional Orchestral sample libraries?

    Hi,
What I do: Film / TV / Ensemble composer
Sample Libraries I use: As my normal palate; Symphonic Choirs, LA Scoring Strings, Vienna Woodwinds, Project Sam Orchestral Brass, Storm Drum 2. Plus others for colour.  I WILL be expanding this in the future.
What I want: A system that will allow me to work with all these plugins (in Logic Studio), without sticking up 'Failed to process data in time' or any other errors! I need it to WORK, so I can edit and get on with composing! My current system can't even handle Symphonic Choirs, or LA Scoring Strings on their OWN!
I'm using a mix of high quality sound libraries, and I'm doing orchestral scoring, so I need something that can run ALL the sound libraries at once without falling over!
I was thinking of buying this iMac:
    2.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
    16GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 4x4GB
    1TB Serial ATA Drive
    AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512MB GDDR5
Someone else suggested I skip that and go for a MacPro.
Since then, on another forum I've been advised that even people running 8 Core systems have them fall over due to CPU usage spiking to 100% when JUST using LA Scoring Strings (Nothing else)!!! Obviously I'm going to be putting my system under alot more strain then that.
Some people have suggested using PC Slaves as this is apparently 'the only way' to do it without it falling over - but obviously I don't want to do that as all my software is geared for mac, and I love the operating ease!
I don't understand how the 'top' composers do it, there doesn't seem to be a system built that can handle this stuff.
HELP ME FELLOW MAC COMPOSERS - you're my only hope! Please specify what sample libraries you are using concurrently (so I can get an idea that we're trying to do the same thing), or how you have managed it!
Any help gratefully appreciated. What do I buy?!

As for your error message, it appears to be an incomplete entry from your logfile of what happened. Open your Console application and see if it has any more details such as USB, Memory, CPU, Firewire, or 80211, or ATAPI, etc... The standards mentioned in your logfile of the crash will give you some indication where the problem is. Is your data backed up? How full is your hard drive? Can you reproduce the error in a second admin account with no system modifications running?

  • Record and sample libraries from same HD?

My question is would it be okay if I for example used one large external hard drive and made 2 partitions - one partition for recording into logic and the other for streaming sample libraries. Is this a no no? Or, should I have 2 external hd's - one dedicated to logic recording and one for sample libraries?
I would like to just get one large hd if possible - so I won't have to lug around 2
    Cheers

    Hi
Generally, it is not a good idea to have samples streaming from the same drive as the audio (project) material... (though it would depend on the nature of the project (predominantly samples or predominantly audio files).
With 'standard' rotating HD's rather than SSD's, the drive would end up being slower because it was trying to find data from several places at the same time. Partitioning the drive would not help in this sort of situation either since the drive head would have to try to read/write to separate partitions at the same time.
With SSD's, the read/write speeds are so much faster that for most purposes one drive would suffice (provided that the external drive to Mac connection was fast enough to cope (Thunderbolt). No need to partition. You *might* get away with a FW800 connection, but you would not be getting the best from the SSD.
You run into similar issues with external (rotating) RAID drives... the overall speed depends on the controllers/connection bus (FW800 vs USB 3 vs Thunderbolt etc)  as well as the speed of the drives themselves.

  • Sample Storage For Logic

Hi, I am planning on purchasing some samples from East West. Since the samples are huge in terms of data (35gb for the pro end sample), I need some advice as to the best way to store them.
    Question.
    1. Is it wise to load them on an external drive (like a glyph GT) and then just pull the samples into Logic as and when I need them. Normally when I make a project in Logic, I store all the samples in the folder for that project.
    2. Should I install them on an internal drive? Any benefits for this against the external drive option?
    3. Don't do either, and just browse the DVD's as and when needed.
I intend to purchase several sample libraries and really need some professional input as to the best way of handling the size of the data.
I am using a Mac Deskstop Pro, Logic (latest version) and Presonus FP10.... eventually will be upgrading to Apogee Essemble.....

Thanks, for the feedback. From your experience does it matter if the drive is internal or external? My Glyph drives are only 400 firewire transfer rate.

  • Loading samples into the exs24 ???

does anyone know how i go about loading in a load of .wav samples into the EXS24 sampler?
i have quite a few vocal samples i want to play around with but cant find how to get them in there.
    many thanks for any help

Open the EXS Instrument editor. Select New - Instrument.
Select "Add" or "Add Multiple". Select the samples you want to add.
Decide on where you want them to appear/mapping etc. Save the instrument to your Sampler Instruments directory. Load that instrument in the EXS24. Enjoy. Read the EXS24 manual.

  • String library for EXS24?

I want authentic sounding solo string instruments, violin, viola, cello, double bass. I'm kinda going for the string sound in Bjork's song "Joga."
Is there a library out there for the ESX24 that is good and won't break the budget?

I am not familiar with the particular Bjork work you refer to, but you might want to visit EastWest (aka Soundsonline) and listen to some of the legacy sample libraries they have.

  • Muted trumpet for exs24

Can anyone recomend a good muted trumpet sounds for exs24?
I am thinking jazz here, not classical.
    thank you

I dno't think I've ever found one that doesn't sound like a kazoo. The thing is, like many instruments, the muted trumpet really needs to be played expressively to sound decent, and samples are just not ideal for this purpose, hence they always sound horrible unless you really work at it and simplify your parts...

  • Bodhran For EXS24

    Hi folks,
I am looking to purchase a good Bodhran sample preferably for use with the EXS24. I managed to make use of a drum sound form the European Folk Kit in the EXS24 with a bit of tweaking it sounded OK but not perfect.
I have recently downloaded Kore Player and Kontact Player so a Bodhran sound for either of those would be OK too, just the EXS24 would be my first choice due to comfort level.
So any recommendations for sounds that I can purchase as a download would be very welcome. I understand that I may need to purchase a library of sounds and that is fine if they come recommended.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jay

  • Can I have two different libraries for iTunes?

I would like to have two different libraries for iTunes. How can I do it?
    Regards.

To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Option key (or Shift key in Windows) when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library: Using multiple iTunes libraries -Mac
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one.

I am wondering if there is any way to create multiple libraries for my music? I use my iTunes for both work and personal music and would like to be able to move my work music into a separate library. I've seen this concept in accounting programs, where you create new companys in order to store and track separate information. Any suggestions? I am currently using iTunes 5.0

Try iTunes Library Manager. It's not free, but it does work.

  • Multiple iPods with different libraries for each?

Hi all, how do I set up iTunes so that I can sync up different iTunes libraries with different iPods? I have two iPods with different music on each and want to keep the libraries separate. (One is from an older computer.) The only option I see when plugging in the older iPod is "do you want to rease this iPod and sync with this iTunes library?" Yikes, no.
    I'm using iTunes 9.
    thanks,
    Scott

It seems that you would just create your two separate libraries for the two iPods, library A for iPod A and B for B. Then, either don't connect iPod A to the computer when you have library B open or vice versa, but if you do, just select not to sync when the prompt appears.
Alternatively, elect to manually manage the iPods.
