Sample Picture - How To Acheive this Look

Hi there, attached is a link to a home that was processed in Photoshop and I was wondering the process that is used to achieve this look...(i.e. multiple layers, tweaked curves etc..)
Any input is appreciated! Thanks!

Gentlemen:
As I said: an expert architectural photographer who knows how to place washes of light on the subject, and then balance the lighting with the sky and other background. Take a look at other photos in the same series by this photographer.
If you light it right (including possible multiple flash techniques), you don't "need" RAW or any other Photoshop corrections. Again, I've seen this kind of lighting in a number of 4x5 Ektachrome originals that had been exposed and processed normally -- before Photoshop was a dream in Adobe's eye. Such photos can be absolutely stunning.
A pro will use Photoshop here just for cleanup and any
minor imbalances or corrections to reach perfection. An amateur will use Photoshop here as a crutch to turn less than stellar work into something "acceptable".
Is it possible to duplicate the effect from less-than-optimum photos with head-turning results? Anything is possible, but it depends upon how well the original subject was photographed, and how much information is in that photo that can be manipulated. But...

• Advice on how to make this look up?

Hello everyone.
I was wondering if anyone can give me advice on how to do this to make it the last complex.
I thought up some complex solutions that will work but seem messy in some ways.
I need to create a look up, I'm parsing a file and transforming it based on its field name and field value. If a certain field name and field value is found, I need to create specific subfields. An example is:
say I read in a file and I come across
A class named interface
with a data field DisplayStatus and field type: INTEGER INIT(132)
DisplayStatus INTEGER INIT(132)
Then I need to create a file that looks like this:
DisplayStatus INTEGER INIT(132);
OP 'interface'.'DisplayStatus'
HAS_SUBFIELD NOTIFY;
OP 'interface'.'DisplayStatus'
HAS_SUBFIELD TIMESTAMP;
OP 'interface'.'DisplayStatus'
HAS_SUBFIELD CHANGE;
OP 'interface'..'DisplayStatus'.CHANGE
SUBFIELD_HAS_VALUE (METHODSPEC) (DUIFCRDC) ;
OP 'interface'.'DisplayStatus'
On the other hand, if I run across a field name:
CommandIndicator CHARVAR;
Then I need to create the following in a file:
CommandIndicator CHARVAR;
OP 'interface'.'CommandIndicator'
HAS_SUBFIELD NOTIFY;
So you can see, based on a specific field name, and data type, they have unique data types.
My solution was going to store a text file that contained all the field names, data types and subfields, and just create a map, so based on the field name, it will look up the value which wil be the subfields, but you can see the sub fields can either be 1 line long, or it can be multiple lines long, thats where I'm running into issues.
What type of data structure would I use? a Map<String, List<String>> ? or is that making it more complicated than it ahs to be?

To make sure I understood you correctly:
You have a file like
class classname
fieldname1 DATATYPE1 constraint
fieldname2 DATATYPE2 constraintyou want
OP 'classname'.'fieldname1'.some optional string
some line defined by DATATYPE1
...How would you store "some optional string" in a Map<String, List<String>>?
Do you just replace a special char sequence with 'interface'..'DisplayStatus'?
If so, why not just store the lines in one String including the line breaks, making the list dispensable?
Regarding XML:
I guess he meant that if you had both your source files in xml, you could do what you want via XSL transformation.
But you'll have to google for that yourself. It has been a while since I worked with that.

I'm in no way new to the iPhone, I've just not been able to find a way to get this look. With the new iPhone 4 the images are so large a clear I can almost see the pores on there faces. Thanks in advace for any help.

As mentioned, your link is bad.
But if you are talking about full screen image of contact vs thumbnail that is done depending how the image was assigned.
If assigned via phone, then will be full screen.
If assigned via a photo in your address book on computer that you sync with, then it will be a thumbnail.

• How to acheive this???? J2EE gurus

Hi,
I have servletA in one serverA and servletB in ServerB.When a request is made to servletA it should call the ServletB to get the response.
Basically they should be chained.
I understand that to forwarding a request to a servlet which is in a different context we have to use redirect instead of forward.if we user redirect the server issses a new request.
How can i acheive this???
Thanks in advance.

The Client is imp bcos it is the one which receives
the response.
I would like to one thing.
if PDA makes a request to ServletA which is on
ServerA and the ServletA makes an HttpURLConnection
and contacts ServletB which is on ServletB, how can i
inlcude the response sent by servletB into ServletA
response????
ServletB is writing everything into response object.
Thanks
You could use a method like this. Though you might have to modify ot as per your requirements
private void returnSuccessfullNotifyHttpResponse(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response, String pushId)

• PE6 How to achieve this look?

How do I achieve this coloring on my photos? I assume I would use the filters or layers somehow. If so, which filters do I use in the photoshop elements 6 menu? Or do I need to purchase special filters for my camera?
http://www.gretchenwilson.com/index.php?page=photos
Thank you!!

Kathy,
Here are the effects I mentioned (using one of Gretchen Wilson's pics).
http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1ttfhKpTBMGlLuGNcc7L2by6dmIHd
You said you wished to achieve the same coloring (a green-yellow tint) as the picture at her web site. So I set the Foreground and Background colors to green and yellow, added a Gradient Map adjustment layer, and played around with the layer's blend mode and Opacity. I settled on the Overlay blend and Opacity 15%. Blend modes Darken, Multiply, Color Burn, Soft Light, and Color give similar results.
To create the vignette:
- Add a blank layer.
- Set the Foreground color to brown.
- With the Elliptical Marquee draw an oval covering most of the picture but not quite touching the edges.
- Invert the oval selection and feather it 20 px.
- Alt-Backspace to fill the selection with the brown.
Since her jeans distracted from the dreamy look, I activated the Background layer, selected the jeans, and applied a Gaussian blur.

• How to acheive this scnerio in PL/SQl using collections

Hi All,
In my apllication we are handling two types of procedures which runs based on the jobs.
Due to some problem few records where got missed in prouduction.
We have tried to run this jobs manaually one by one and it is taking time to execute..
I have got a suggetsion from my senior to do in a collection and run this packages at a time..
Here is my exact scenerio, can you please help me out to implemnet in collections..
Steps:
Populate the missing records namely ordered, event sequence, Start date, end date, region in to plsql table/collection. ( Hard-coded since this will run the code
for a date which will take less time and take less record).
looping the plsqltable/collection for missing records
Running the procedure p_Daily with startdate and end date parameter
-- if the above executed successfully we need to execute second procedure i.e p_Region procedure by checking records in f_daily_report exist/relevant table
(Id and sequence).
Running the procedure p_region with start date and region id ( checking whether id and sequece is exist f_daily_report table).
end loop
The above steps which i have explained needs to achievd thru collections, can anybody helps me out on this.
Note:
1. All the missing jobs wil fal under differnt date rane groups.
2. For second job i.e p_region i have mentioned that it will run based on start date and region id..This job will run on three differnt region id's..We can find the
region id based on by joining f_region and d_region table. It seems that these misisng records belongs to all three regions

Rather than providing data is it possible to how we can proceed in collections. That's like saying you want to write poor code that performs slowly rather than fast and performant code.
Without clear explanations and examples of data and output, there doesn't appear to be a valid reason for using collections. The reason you're not getting many responses on your thread is because you're not explaining clearly what is required with examples. • Any ideas on how to emulate this look (purposely bad looking video)?

so i'm doing a very short sequence right now, and i thought it would be kind of interesting to have this short sequence have the same characteristics of the video quality of the old early 90s Sega CD based FMV games (for an example, i uploaded a short clip here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/ro17qv ). and there is a LITTLE bit more of a technological explanation here ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FMV_game#Description ) in the 3rd paragraph. from reading from here ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_cd#Reception ) it would seem the video quality may have been better, natively on the disc, but the system itself could not actually interpret that quality of video. (i had alwasy just assuned it was compression artifacts to cram a 90 minute full motion game onto a proprietary 500mb cd-rom disc... but that may still have something to do with it) or maybe they just encoded the video liek that, knowing the console couldnt do it anyway, and being more mindful of bit-budgeting.
so, is there anyway to really emulate that look? i tried encodeing a simple mpeg at 1 mbps, but it just made it more pixelated... didnt quite give it the grainy factor, charecterisic of dithering (which i was looking to see if there was just a simple color dither filter where i could limit it to the sega cd color threshold, but no luck on my part), nore the washed out colors i was looking for. i tried adding some noise... but then the grain was just random. where as in the games, the grain was more stagnate. (ie, the camera may pan, but you could still see the grain in the exact same place on the screen)
or is this just something that was inherent to the hardware, and no real way to fully emulate it without said hardware?

I'd experiment with Posterize Time to get the low-frame rate look; seems that most of the CD-ROM games with video had frame rates of around 10-12 fps. Posterize Time will let you achieve that pretty easily.
Instead of Noise, try Mosaic with the block count sent relatively high. Use Posterize to create the color banding. You might have to experiment with the order of the effects, and also the level to which they are applied. A color correction effect as the last step would be necessary to get the desaturation you're probably looking for.
Another quick-and-dirty way would be to export your sequence using Microsoft AVI as your Format, with Microsoft Video 1 or Microsoft RLE as your codec. For MS Video 1, click Codec Settings and turn the "Temporal Quality Ratio" down a bit, and for both codecs, decrease the Quality slider. Set your export frame rate to something that is 1/2 to 1/3 of your original sequence frame rate. That should create a pretty schmeggy looking file Again, mix-and-match to get your desired look, but this might be the easiest way to do this--these videos would have used codecs like this (Cinepak was popular, too).

• How to acheive this?? Pls help

Our project has almost completed the development.
My client has requested to migrate the database.
we are migrating from db2 to db2e.
DB2e allows only one database connection.(limitation of db2e)
ie i have to close the current connection object before
getting the new Connection object.
I cannot have a Connection pooling also.
I have many links on my home page where every link
needs the connection object to do some database operations.
As i can have only one database connection, when i click
on the links repeatedly or when i play around with the links,
i get exceptions saying that i cannot have more than one connection
and results in a blank page or error page.
Currently my application has to handle this situation,
ie even if the user clicks continuosly on all the links or plays
around with the links it has take the last request into account
and display accordingly
I have a databaseConnection class which returns me a Connection object
To achieve the above funtionality i tried making the Connection object as static, so whenever i call the function to get the Connection object i check whether the current connection object is open or is not null.
if it is open i close and make it null and return the new connection object.
This seems to be working to some extent but not stable.
Iam not sure how does the server process when many requests are made and only one connection object is available at any point of the time.
Iam not sure how to get it working and stable.
One more solution i can think of is to declare a global variable
which tells us whether a request has been made.depending on this
variable i can restrict the user by clicking on the links reapeatedly.
but this is very tedious and also i have a time constraint.
any advice
tks in advance

just curious, couldn't you keep one connection open and through that connection run queries of different types?

• How do I create this look in illustrator....

I'm recreating some vintage art and am trying to get this spray paint look. Any suggestions on how to go about achieving this look (see photo) in illustrator?
I'm currently running CS4 (I'm on my work computer)....

- I've tried looking in the preset brushes, no luck!
- I've tried creating my own brush using vector spray paint, no luck!
- I've tried looking for illustrator brushes online, no luck!
This seems like a very simple effect to do, I know how to create this look in photoshop but I need this to be vector. Any suggestions would be great!
Thanks guys!

First...
There is nothing wrong with a 1-bit diffusion dither object being raster, as far as printing results is concerned. Such images date back to the days of MacPaint and Hypercard. They are same-size (historically usually 1-point) pixels, randomly distributed at varying frequencies to suggest tones (as opposed to individual printer spots being combined to build varying size halftone dots).
So if the tiny squares are vector, yes, they are scaleable. But so are 1-bit pixels. When you scale a 1-bit raster, you're scaling square pixels, which are printed as squares. So a scaled 1-bit raster image is just as "resolution independent" as a bunch of vector squares.
Second...
This effect was employed in illustrations and designs since the very beginning of desktop publishing. For example, I frequently used it in the 80s thusly:
1. Draw a vector path of any shape in FreeHand.
2. Copy it to Photoshop. Blur it. Convert to 1-bit using diffusion dither. Save it as TIFF.
3. Import into FreeHand. Stack it below the object for which it served as a glow or drop shadow.
FreeHand had the ability to apply any color to a 1-bit or grayscale raster image, and the ability to set the white pixels of a 1-bit image to transparent. Illustrator didn't gain those abilities until decades later.
So it's not oppressively tedious to use that method nowadays, even in Illustrator. (And frankly, that's the way I'd do it.)
Third...
Illustrator sorely needs to provided a diffusion dither option in its Rasterize command for 1-bit color depth (as I've been arguing for years) instead of its lame pattern diffusion. Then this effect could be applied easily and quickly to any object, either as a "nailed down" rasterization, or as a live effect.
However...
You can simulate a vector diffusion dither pattern that you can apply to any path by combining several Scatter Brushes and storing their combined application as a Graphic Style:
1. Draw a 1 point square.
2. Store it as a Scatter Brush. Set the Spacing and Scatter settings to Random. To constrain the pattern to one side of the path to which it is applied, set the low limit of Scatter to zero.
3. Duplicate the Scatter Brush two or more times, changing the Spacing and Scatter upper limits in each duplicate so as to make each duplicate Brush increasingly sparse. In the example shown, the first Brush is named Scatter Brush 1 and has its upper limits for Spacing and Scatter to 300. This Brush was duplicated twice, and those two values doubled each time. But of course you can use whatever settings work for the effect you want.
4. Draw a temporary path with a 1-point stroke. Apply Scatter Brush 1. Select the Stroke Appearance and duplciate it. Apply Scatter Brush 2 to it. Duplicate the Stroke Appearance again, and apply Scatter Brush 3 to it.
5. Drag the whole path and drop it into the Graphic Styles palette to define a new Graphic Style. Now you can apply the whole Appearance stack to any other path(s) with one click.
Being Brushes, the fineness of the pattern can be adjusted by changing the weight of the strokes:
And, of course, you can apply other effects to the Brushes and strokes involved. For example, set the Colorization Mode of the Brushes to be able to change the color of the dither pattern; and/or apply Transform Effect to offset the pattern from the object to which it is applied (as for dithered drop shadows).

• TS1717 itunes wont open, says its missing msvcr80.dll. I cannot find out how to get this fixed...

i cannot get computer to open itunes, it keeps saying needs msvcr80.dll i cannot figure out how to fix this.

Looks to me like Apple's iTunes update isn't applying newer versions of:
Apple Application Support
Apple Mobile Device Support
These are built-in to the setup.exe. The consumer way of fixing them is a total uninstall of iTunes and the above packages. You can include Bonjour but I don't think that's causing the problem. Now when you install iTunes it gets the latest version of these.
More advanced users can extract the applemobiledevicesupport64.msi and appleapplicationsupport.msi files and run these if already at iTunes 11.1.4. Include the itunes.msi/itunes64.msi if it's an older version of iTunes that's broken. Doing this has repaired my clients without the messy/lengthy process described by Apple on http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
