Sample Rate Problems going from Garage Band to Logic Express

I've downloaded the Trial Version of Logic Express. When it launched it changes the i/o sample Rate that is required by Garage Band (I'm using a digi002 i/o). The result is that garage band plays back at a fraction of it normal rate (sounds like crap).
It wasn't a problem until the trial ran out on Logic Express. I could change the sample rate back inside Logic. Hummm ... what to do? I don't see any place to change the rate in the garage band preferences or in the core audio interface. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've never had any such problem with Logic Express. GB files just load up, and work fine. Did you change anything in Logic Express? There are setting for that there, but even songs I open after I changed LE to 24 bit, work fine.
Wait, are you saying LE is changing the sample rate, and then it stays that way when you open GB? Hmmm, What do you have LE set for? I think mine is set at 24/96, but I'd have to look to be sure. But I am not using the same interface as you are. It might be something you just have to live with. Have you tried posting this in the LE7 forum? Maybe one the gurus there knows what you can do.
Oh, and I am using GB 2, not GB 1, but I am not sure that is relevant.

  • Please advise - Garage Band vs Logic Express ???

I am moving from a hard disk recorder to an I Mac. I am purchasing a refurbished 2.4GHz machine from the Apple Store. I have ZERO experience with macs, and ease of use/intuativeness is very important. I will be recording guitars, drums, vocals, one instrument at a time.
What features am I getting with Logic Express that I won't have with Garage Band? Should I consider Logic Studio ?
Any insights on how these software applications compare would be most appreciated.
I can be reached at [email protected] if anyone would like to share their experiences
    Thanks
ps - is a refurbished I-Mac just as good as a new one?

Great feedback thus far. I really appreciate it.
What do you mean when you say "better instruments" ??
In other words, I will be recording my guitar, bass, vocals, and drums. To my way of thinking, those are my instruments.
Are you referring to intrument sounds or samples in the software?
TCan someone confirm GB is limited to 8 tracks? That isn't much to work with.
    Thanks!!!!
    Better software instruments.
GB can record 8 tracks at once, but actual track count is only limited by your system.
"You can record up to eight Real Instruments and one Software Instrument at the same
time. This lets you record voices and instruments together, and simultaneously record a
backing track, for example."-from the GB Manual
Of course you'd need an interface capable of 8 discrete sends.
For what it sounds like you want to do, I'll repeat my original advice-especially since you're learning Mac as well. If anything, knowing GB has sped up my Logic Learning Curve. JMHO.

  • Garage band controller/logic express?

will the garage band controller made by m-audio work with logic express?

Yes but you have to do the following for it to work: Control-click on the GarageBand application and select "Show Package Contents". Navigate to the Midi Device Plug-ins folder and do a copy of the iControl.bundle to the desktop. Now, go to the same place in Logic Express and put the file you copied to the desktop in there.

  • Sample Rate problem as well as CoreAudio overload and anyone using DFH?

I've only switched from Pro Tools to Logic Pro recently and am confused about a lot of things. I am running Toontrack DFH Superior with 7 audio tracks and one more software instrument track. I keep getting message about sample rate problem and something about conflict betwwen logic and external device. The only device I use is a M-Audio 49e MIDI controller and the M-Box, and I am running these on a Quad PowerMac G5 wih 4 GB RAM... I've tried to adjust the setting here and there, but none of them seem to work... Please help!

Often MIDI driver conflicts and processor overloads, or bottlenecks too. Freezing, removing old drivers, if you really are running Jaguar and if it is actually installed from those days then it is time to do a fresh install and maybe use Panther or Tiger. Panther can be found really cheap these days. As far as old drivers you don't use for any audio or MIDI interfaces you once used with your sytem, are there any? If so which ones? You may be able to direct yourself to your old driver uninstall by looking at the receipt of whichever driver you no longer use. Also, Jaguar was just really good at getting this message to come out, in my experience. Some plugins require alot of MIDI I/O or CPU power, some of NI's stuff really (momentarily) spikes on MIDI data input.

  • How do I get a voice over from garage band into Final cut x?

How do I get a voice over from garage band into Final cut x?  Sorry if this is a newbie question.  I have been editing in final Cut express on my MacBook Pro and just jumped to a new iMac and Final Cut ProX.  Trying to record my own voice on a Yeti mic and import it as narration for a video.  Thought I could simply import media but X has it greyed out.

Sharing with iTunes is OK, but it is likely to produce a file in MP3 or AAC, which can cause problems. You can create an AIFF version of an MP3 file in iTunes and use that.
To create an AIFF version, go to iTunes/Preferences and click the General Tab. Click the Import Settings button. Choose Import Using: AIFF Encoder. Then choose your track, and click FILE/CREATE AIFF Version. Use this in FCPX. Be sure to go back into iTunes Preferences and set the import options back to where you had it, so the next time you rip an CD it does not make an AIFF.

  • Can't import ringtone from Garage band 6.0.5 to iTunes 11.0.4

On my Mac I can't import ringtone from Garage band 6.0.5 to iTunes 11.0.4. I can create the ringtone but when I share it vanishes instead of going into the Tones like it used to do.

Is that, how far you get?
You select, "New Project" and select a "Podcast" project template? And then you get that error message? Or do you see the File Choser dialogue, but get the error message, when you try to save the project?
That can either mean, that the "Podcast" project template is not readable, or that you cannot write to the GarageBand folder in your home folder.
Check the System Library, if the Podcast template is properly installed:
    /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Templates/Projects/
Look into the folder "Library", directly on your MacintoshHD, then "Application Support", "GarageBand", "Templates" for 08. Podcast.band.
If it is not there, then your GarageBand installation is incomplete and you need to reinstall it. If the file is there, check the permissions. Can you open the file 8. Podcast.band, if you copy it to your Desktop and double click it, to open it in GarageBand?

10.5.8 with latest garageband 5.1 with MBOX 1. On Nov 4.09 I did a software update, now i get no output volume or input volume to the computer itself. I get it from head phones from my mbox, but not to the computer. Before the software update It worked great. I've tried upgrading software through digidesign .com, but they dont seem to have one for what i need. any way to get my old garage band back? go from 5.1 to earlier? Or maybe it was the upgrade to 10.5.8. update? Can i go back in time lol?
    Any help would be appreciated
    BTW
Ive tried all the system sound prefs, and garage band drivers. Back and forth.

  • My podcasts do not show the pictures only the sound when I import them to iTunes from Garage Band.  How do I get the pictures to show up in iTunes?

My podcasts do not show the pictures only the sound when I import them to iTunes from Garage Band.  How do I get the pictures to show up in iTunes?

Well, all I can tell you is that if your file is an m4a with chapter markers, those markers having suitably sized images attached, and you drag it into the Music area of iTunes (so that it appears as a song) in List view, when you play it and then command-click on the small image in the header (next to the progress bar) you should see your embedded images.
If this isn't happening the best place to ask would be in the GarageBand forum: my own experience of GB is rather out of date and in any case I've never used it for podcasting.

  • I recently submitted a question re. the volume which when I send from Garage Band 2008

I recently submitted a question re. sharing music I create and send from Garage Band 2008 to iTunes 11.1.1. I create a slide show in iPhoto 2008 and export to Quicktime (latest version) and ultimately to YouTube. By the time the file gets to Quicktime, the volume has defaulted to a low level which is unacceptable. This never happened until I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard. How can I keep the volume? Must I update all of my iLife software?

    export the exact length:

  • Cannot import voice over from garage band into FCP-X

cannot import voice over from garage band into FCP-X

    Try:
Share > Send Song to iTunes. In the dialog, turn OFF compress. That will create an .aiff version of your GB project.
Alternately, you can Share to iTunes. When iTunes opens, right click on the selection and select Create AIFF version.
When iTunes opens, right click on the selection and select Show In Finder -> drag it out to a more convenient location (or option-click-drag to make a duplicate in the new location you drag to.)
    Import that file into FCPX.

  • Can I use my Mac to play guitar without going through Garage band

Just wondering about playing My guitar with the computer, But not going through Garage band.. Is that possible??

  • Sample rate problem

I have an odd sample rate problem: I have put in some music at 44.1 (while all other audio is at 48kHz.)
At most points this is, surprisingly, not an issue. But if I haved 4 channels of 48kHz sound then EITHER the 44.1 sound OR the 48kHz sound will not play.
Anyone know why this would be? I obviously need to redo the 44.1kHz sound - is there a quick and easy way to do this, or do I need to reimport everything seperately?

Export the 44.1khz audio as an AIF, 48khz, 16 bit file themn import the resulting file. Normally you'd want to do this with QT Pro before importing it into FCP.

  • How can i export music from garage band to my PC?

    Hi,
Ive read quit a few threads on this matter, but none of the ideas seem to work.
I have created a track in GB and i now want to listen to it on my PC.
The ipad (1st edition) and is syncing up to the PC fine apart from this.
The process that im following is:-
    Create the song in GB
Tap ' My Songs' at the top left hand side of the page
Hit the 'send to itunes' button at the bottom left of the page
    Choose 'AAC Format'
But when I fire up ITunes (on my PC) , click 'Apps' and then scroll to the bottom, i can see the Garage Band application Icon, but there is no exported music file.  Im not sure where to look next.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Mike

Yes, no problem, as long as Logic has a equal or higher version. So, Garageband 9 -> Logic 8 will produce problems. With Logic 9, you can import everything and open the GB file directly in Logic.
