Samson C01U SoftPre applet available as Universal Binary ... or not?

Samson finally released the Universal Binary version of their control software for the C01U USB microphone (actually I don't know when they released it, I kept checking back every 3 months or so, and today I found it). It's available here:
http://www.samsontech.com/products/productpage.cfm?prodID=1810&brandID=2
However, when I tried to install it and clicked through all the "Agree" buttons, I finally got the msg "There is no software to be installed". Any idea what that might mean? The package has a reasonable size (2.9 MB).

I called support - there were a couple of files other than the application itself that had to be removed (a receipt and an extension). Now the installation went smoothly, and the applet works!

  • Universal Binary scanner not showing in CS4

This works in CS3, but I cannot get several scanners o show up. They are all universal binary drivers and they work in CS3 running natively. Is there something different in CS4 in the way of scanning support? Does anyone have their scanner working through CS4 successfully? If so, what scanner? I'm using one of the newer Canon scanners.
    Thanks.

The TWAIN.plugin is available in the downloads section on the adobe website.

if you're on the mac. You need the file:
Adobe Photoshop CS4 Optional plug-ins and ReadMe
    English, Spanish and French
Why is it inefficient? I hate the MP Navigator and scanning software included with the Canons that they make you use. I much prefer scanning from inside photoshop.

  • How to tell if Universal Binary or not?

I just purchased a refreshed MacBook Pro 2.3GHz that was a demo unit in an Apple store (yay). When I went through all the normal beginning power-up stuff I chose to migrate the files from my old G4 iBook to the MacBook Pro using the target disk mode. Everything went smoothly but I am just not impressed with the speed of the new computer. I was wondering if transferring the info automatically this way had possibly installed PowerPC versions of the applications on the iBook over the Univeral Binary versions on the MacBook Pro. Is this even possible?
Is there a way to tell if an application on the MacBook Pro is PPC or UB?
    Thanks,
    -= Ken =-

The Get Info approach is the easier (and faster) way to go
Yes it's quicker, especially as you don't have to launch the application however it's not always accurate even though it's mostly so. For instance, Java based applications, LimeWire and Azureus come to mind, "can" easily be reported by Get Info as PowerPC where in actual fact they are Universal and reported as such by Activity Monitor.
This is normally not an issue (and usually requires a developer oversight) although I thought you should know.

  • Swf and Universal Binary

I've produced a application (standalone player) on Mac for PC
customers. It's pretty heavy, it includs videos and flash
didactical sequences. All play fine on my 2 computers (G4 bipro
1,25Ghz and G5 1,8 Ghz) and on the customer computers.
But I've to install it on a MacBook Laptop (with only 512Mo)
    and then problem...
The video and animations are slow, even if I play the swf
separately the simple animations are slow, so I think that the
    standalone player uses Rosetta...
How to solve that problem ?
Is there a Flash 9 player installer (not only for browser) ?
If I found a Flash player 9 to compile again the projector
will it works on Universal Binary computers ?
    Thank for your help ;)

Look like it's done! In the download page :
    http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
There is a link to download the INTEL version of the Flash
Player (release and debug!). But in fact, it's a Universal Binary
    app, not just Intel !.
So, they should flush the link for the PowerPC version...
It's working fine on my G5 powerPC too.

  • Mac os X Server Universal Binary install upgrade possible ?

Has anyone attempted the following upgrade pattern with the new mac pros with mac os X Universal Binary build ?
Take your PowerPC mac os X server build to an external hard drive (Carbon Copy clonning or via SuperDuper). Tie in the external hard drive to the Mac Pro . Upgrade the Mac os X server install via the DVD install for mac os X server coming with the mac pro . CCC it back to the mac pro ... watch the fireworks ?
I am still in waiting the machine but there are loads of data i would like to transfer from our my present mac os X server quad setup to the upcoming MacPro and doing this manipulation might make the transition soooo much easier than having to transport everything ...
I hope there are no other already started threads concerning this procedure but if such would be the case i apologize for the inconvinience caused and would be glad if reffering threads would be posted here ...
    G5 Quad 2.5 7TB xraid 16GB of ram.   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Mac os X server 10.4.7

From the looks of it the upgrade from Mac os X server PPC to Mac os X server Universal Binary is not possible from install disk .... i backed up a whole PPC drive loaded my Mac os X Server UB in the machine and booted off the CD on a MBP ... and the installer just wont take the PPC build as upgradable .. once again apple leaves us in the middle of the transition ... WHY ???? For those of us getting mac pros to run mac os x server applications this would be a great benefit to all parties involved and help solve the many dog heared problems we have faced all along in 10.4.
Edit: Same thing from a PPC standpoint a PPC build wont upgade to a Universal Binary build at all as it seems ... i am calling Apple support and hope to get further information to share ... wish me luck
I dare hope leopard behaves better than 10.4 has been especially on the server side which broke many functions that 10.3 got right pretty quickly and neatly .

  • Universal Binary projector still Intel

I've tried creating a Universal Binary mac projector from both a Windows system and an Intel Mac and am having trouble on a non-intel mac. I have checked the Universal Binary box in the projector settings. No matter what I've done the non-intel mac still thinks the projector is Intel only and won't open it. I get the error "You can't open the application "xxxx" because it's not supported on this architecture. Please help. This is Director 12.

I found an easy way back to Director 11.5 though...
    By Colin Holgate:
There isn't a way to save as an earlier version, but my article from 13 years ago still holds true:
    http://www.director-online.com/buildArticle.php?id=1034
The article tells you how to find two copies of a particular pair of numbers. For D7 those numbers would be 057E, D8 would be 0640, and D8.5 is 073A. Changing the two places where those number are will make the DIR open in older versions of Director.
The numbers for D11.5 are 0782, and for D12 they are 079F. So, track down the two places where 079F are (which are 18 positions apart) and change them to 0782, and you'll be able to open the file in D11.5.
Worked wonderfully and mysteriously. Big thanks to Colin Holgate, saved me hours. And shame on Adobe that something as basic as a universal binary does not work. And that their support does not respond to this, either!!!

  • Samson Softpre applet doesn't work under Leopard

I am a podcaster. I bought the Samson C01U microphone last year as I was told at that time it was the best in the entry-level for someone that was considering podcasting. There's an applet that is offered by Samson that allows Input Level Meter, Volume control, High-pass filter and Phase Switch. Every recording sounded great when I combine this applet with GarageBand.
Recently, I switched to Leopard and the applet doesn't work anywore. Worse, recording audio with that mic gives me radically inferior quality. When I asked Samson about that matter, the support tech guy told me that there was no intention on porting this software on the new operating system, with the following: "The Soft Pre applet is merely a volume control. There is no difference in sound with or without the Soft Pre. All Samson USB mics were designed to be fully operational without the Soft Pre applet."
I've googled the matter several times with no one else noticing the matter but myself. Christoph Drösser on a previous discussion told me that he had no such problem, but the difference between his setup and mine is that he upgraded to Leopard while mine was a fresh install. Anyone else in a similar situation?

    Hi,
I had the same problem. I use an external monitor. It seems that the Applet simply disappeared after using my monitor.
I opened Samson SoftPre, turned on my external monitor! Eureka. Here is my Applet. I moved it in the middle of my desktop to make sure it would not hide again. Once, you get it back make sure to either close the Applet before quitting the external monitor.

  • Flip4Mac Universal Binary available now...

Noticed that the Universal Binary version of Flip4Mac showed up as an official release today on www.flip4mac.com if anyone is interested.
Flip4Mac is a free QuickTime plugin that allows you to play Windows Media Files (.wmv) via Quicktime and Safari.
I've been running the beta version for about a week with no problems and will update to the full version when I get home this evening.
    Available at http://www.flip4mac.com
 17" 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo iMac, 2Gb DDR2 SDRAM   Mac OS X (10.4.7)    Airport Extreme Base Station  Vinyl... the only way to listen to music...

Some .wmv files cannot be played in Safari -- it's a long and complicated story to explain, since I'm doing that in English --. Also the F4M plug-in PowerPC couldn't show those video files.
So, if you want to play them anyway simply view the page in Safari as Source Code, find and copy the .mms or .wmv file, and finally paste it into VLC or Windows Media Player.
    Ciao,

  • FYI. Flash player universal binary now available.

    http://www.adobe.com/flashplayer

Antonio, I think we may have a communication breakdown here. lol.
An Intel Binary is for Intel processors only.
A PowerPC Binary is for PowerPC processors only.
A Universal Binary is for both.
Adobe offer an Intel download and a PowerPC download, which would lead one to believe that one is for Intel processors only and one is for PowerPC processors.
However, the Intel download has "UB" in its filename, which would suggest it is a Universal Binary after all, not an Intel binary as the website states.
A Universal Binary and an Intel Binary will run the same on an Intel machine, I was just wondering which one it actually was.

  • Microsoft Office / universal binary availability?

I bought the original iMac g5 (ppc), and have been debating when I should buy the MS Office 2004 package. Since the last announcement, (like most of us), I want to either get a new iMac..
There is also currently a rebate program on Office 2004 for mac, but it does not say if it is a universal binary package. I have not read anywhere where Roz Ho claims to have released the UB version, or if office will 'just work' on the new iMac G5s, which leads me to wonder if it only applies to the PPCs, and not the mactels.
So my question is, what's my best (cheapest) bet for getting MS Office if I am willing to get it as part of a new iMac (as long as it works), and willing to wait a year to make a purchase?
    1) Just go for the Office 2004 ppc version
    2) Buy the iMac (mactel) with rebate for Office 2004
    3) Wait for Office 2004 UB later on this year..
    4) Wait after the big April 1st annoucement (or later) when Office 2006 (vista codebase) is released for mac.
Another thing, do you know if the UB will require Tiger?

  • Samson C01U not working in LE8

I can't get my Samson C01U USB microphone to work with LE8.
Many others also have the same problem, while Apple stores sell both LE8 and the Samson C01U microphone.
Is there someone out there that has the solution to make the microphone work with Logic Express 8 or do I have to go back to the store and ask my money back for LE8 (as GarageBand works perfectly with the Samson C01U and LE8 claims to be a step higher up the ladder
It didn't work in Tiger and it also doesn't work in Leopard either, please help.
    Cheers, Ron de Jong

I know you said that you've done this, but this is available.

    Straight from the horses mouth.
I'd say remove everything that you have made as an agg/device and try staring using the steps in the samsontech article.
If the mic isn't directly connected to the macs usb ports you might have issues. Try no hub if you're on one.
I'm on OS 10.4.11 though. Don't know if that makes any difference, but I did have the same problem you did with that mic. You'll dig it once you have it hooked up.

  • Samson C01U usb mic/low input level

I recently bought a Samson C01U usb condenser mic to use with Garageband to record voice and piano for my music studio. When I plug it in, it is recognized in system preferences/Sound. But when I try to record in Garageband, the input level monitor barely responds. I've selected Mono 1, as advised by tech support at Samson. I can't figure out why this mic isn't working, since it's recommended for this exact purpose. I don't think I should need a pre amp, but now am wondering if I do. I'd be so grateful for any advice.
    KM

You know, the Samson C01U worked ok with the SoftPre software from Samsontech under Tiger. The input levels could be bumped up sufficiently for the **** thing to actually work even if the input signal was still on the low side.
Since SoftPre doesn't work with Leopard, the C01U is basically an expensive paperweight.
Since Samsontech seem incapable of getting their act together in putting out an operational Leopard compatible SoftPre software release, my advice to the wider Mac community is to BOYCOTT THEM! If Samsontech aren't receptive to consumer needs and flexible enough to act accordingly when the OS is updated, they deserve to suffer the commercial consequences - period!
I'm looking forward to the liberating ritual of taking a giant sledgehammer and obliterating my now useless, overpriced Samson C01U. It's going to be awesome !

  • Samson C01U advice

    afternoon all.
i recently bought a samson c01u usb condensor mic for gettin vocals down on my recordings. 1st of all, im very happy with the quality of the recordings.
however, im finding some words are being picked up less, and as a result get lost when added as a layer to a mix. and vice versa, sometimes some words are louder and stand out too much in the mix.
i think this is to do with mic positioning, and the mic being a hyper cardioid pickup pattern, i probably move around too much when recording.
however, with the recordinigs all ready done, is there anything i can use in audition to balance out the levels? so amplify the quieter, and reduce the louder waves?
please note, this is only very subtle stuff, but i like stuff to be as perfect as poss and dont really wanna go through each individual track and boost the volumes individually, so if theres another way please let  me know.
im on audition 3.0, also have 1.5
    thanks guys
    andy

cheers bob, just by tryin the smooth vocal preset it actually worked wonders, and i did a little EQ'ing myself to give the vocals a little more top end, and they're comin through much nicer know.thanks.andy

Have a play with compression effect under the Amplitude and Compression/Dynamics Processing menu.
You'll have to play with the adjustments to get exactly what you want but, if the need is as slight as you describe, perhaps start with the "Smooth Vocal" preset then adjust from there.  The graphic display will probably give you a hint about what's going on, but, to use it properly, it's probably worth doing some Googling and some background reading on what compression (and the available adjustments do.
However, at the most basic, you will be applying some limiting to all sounds above a certain level, meaning that when you apply some "make up gain" the ratio between the quiet and louder bits gets smaller.
Too much and you may hear artefacts but to increase the intelligibility, it's just the ticket.
