Samsung 1440x900 monitor on a PPC mini

Hi-
Usually find me over in the networking area, but I found a good deal on a Samsung 931BW, wide-screen LCD.
I'm running a PPC mini 1.25Ghz, Tiger 10.4.8
Has anyone had success on a mini to get 1440x900 resolutino to display properly? Ive looked at Samsung's site, but there's really nothing useful there for mac. (maybe not such a good deal, eh?)
Any experienced mac folks be able to help?
Thanks,
rick

Thanks,
but for some reason I didn't subscribe to this thread (duh) and didn't see your excellent response.
Meanwhile, I returned the Samsung, and went back to my original 4:3 monitor, sintead of messing around with widescreen.
Maybe another time.
Thanks!

    18. What is the maximum resolution available for use with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter?
The resolution available with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter is 1920 x 1200. VGA displays that use higher refresh rates (such as 85 Hz) at resolutions of 1600 x 1200 or greater may not generate video properly until you lower the refresh rate.

    How can I detect displays?
If the detect displays option is not available, hold down the Option key while you are in the Display pane.
How do I select additional resolutions on my display?
You can use the Display pane of System Preferences to specify how your display works. Not all options appear for all display models. By default the best resolution for your display will already be selected in System Preferences.
To select a different resolution, use the Scaled option. Some additional resolutions may be available when you hold the Option button.

  • How do I Connect Dell E2211H monitor to a PPC Mac Mini???

How do I connect a Dell E2211H monitor to a Mac mini (PPC)

It looks like the Dell E2211H has both VGA and DVI inputs and the Mac mini (original) has a DVI output port.
So all you need is a good DVI Cable to connect that Dell to the Mac Mini.

I would like some help setting up My Samsung 24" T220HD Monitor to a Mac Mini
What Audio Cable's and Video Cables will i Need?
    Thanks

I would take a look in the Apple Store under "Cables".

I use the DVI to HDMI cable for the video signal. If your Monitor has HDMI connection, then that is what I would use.

    2. Same as above but cheaper at Wal-Mart etc...

  • PPC Mini works with Samsung 46" LCD at 1360x768 (sort of)

    Greetings.
I just purchased a Samsung 46" LCD panel with the intent of using my PPC mini as a home theatre. I connected the mini to the LCD and once I turned off overscan, the display looks very good. The on-screen text is clear and sharp and the colors look great.
I am having a problem, however, displaying graphics such as DVD movies. It looks that when I play DVDs there is a bit of pixellation and the blacks look washed out.
The guys at BestBuy told me that this is due to the mini not producing a video frame rate fast enough. Is this true? If so, will the graphics processor in the Intel mini work any better?
    Thanks in advance.

The James Colby system (123macmini link) seems to be the only one I could find with an color display. He went for an LCD, instead of CRT. He kept the original look of the CRT by cutting the picture tube (so the glass face stayed in place, but behind it is an LCD).
Here's the discussion where he specifies the source for the LCD display:

  • Dual Samsung 2343bwx Monitors with Mac Mini

I am looking to purchase the new Mac Mini Server for my lab, but have a question. I currently have dual Samsung 2343bwx monitors attached to a Windows 2008 server (please no snickers, I am replacing it with a Mac!) using UltraMon to span the desktop across both monitors. My question is can the Mini support both monitors at 2048 x 1152, and give me the same functionality I have now?
If it does support it can you tell me what connectors your are using?

Should work ok. The 2048x1152 16:9 aspect ratio on the 2343BWX is only slightly more pixels than 1920x1200.
    See this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9855163&#9855163
And spanning shouldn't be a problem, either.

  • Is G4 PPC Mini compatible with Dell 2407FPW and DVI?

I just bought and returned a Samsung 225BW monitor because I couldn't get my G4 PPC Mini to work with it using the DVI port. I previously had a Dell 2405FPW working perfectly using the DVI with this exact Mac Mini, but I see it has been replaced by the Dell 2407FPW. Before I make the big splurge, can anyone confirm that the Dell 2407FPW actually works with a G4 PPC Mac Mini using DVI (hopefully, out of the box)?
If not, can anyone say if the 2407FPW works with a 1st Gen Intel Mac Mini (I can probably make a trade if need be).

  • Can I use My Ibook G4 as a Second Monitor For My Mac Mini G4

    Hi
I wonderd if theres any way of being able to use my 14'' Ibook G4 as a second monitor for my Mac Mini G4? I already have a Samsung SyncMaster 913n. Is there any way of doing this by firewire using both monitors, if not what cables would I need?
    Thanks

There is a application called Synergy which you may find useful. It allows the keyboard, mouse and clipboard to be shared across computers, and even different operating systems. It's not strictly what you have asked for as each computer still runs it's applications (and operating system) separately, meaning you can not drag windows between the screens, but by allowing you to copy and paste between the computers, and seamlessly slide your mouse and keyboard input between them you may get the effect you desire. Oh, and it is free and open-source, so why not give it a whirl?
You will need to connect the machines with a TCP/IP network, which can be done either with an ethernet patch cable, or alternatively as you suggest, using FireWire - these two articles may assist you in setting that up: IP over FireWire in Panther and Tiger.
As a point of note, a commercial program, MaxiVista allows exactly what you are looking for under Microsoft Windows.
    Hope that helps.

  • Connecting MacBook to Samsung TV / Monitor

I have a MacBook Pro version 10.6.5 and a Samsung TV / Monitor. I want to connect my Macbook to the Samsung TV so I can watch shows from my computer on my TV / Monitor.
I have a Mini Display Port to VGA adapter. I also have a cable that connects the VGA port to the PC input on my TV / Monitor. When I connect the two and put my TV settings on "PC", My desktop from my computer appears on the TV. But I can't get any other activity beyond this. Is there anything I can do or is this a compatibility issue? Please help.
    Thank you

However, Still wondering why some Itunes shows plays and some don't...
I am only going to guess here because I don't know the real answer. I wonder if it's because you went through VGA to get to your monitor. Normally, with a current widescreen flat monitor, the best port to go through is HDMI because it's a full digital signal. But the main reason I'm bringing it up is because HDMI also supports HDCP, which is content copy protection that Hollywood likes to use for its movies and shows. It is possible (again, I am really not sure) that since you're going through the analog VGA connection, iTunes is not able to verify that the monitor supports HDCP. It might if you went through the HDMI port instead, if your monitor has one.

  • Will A 27 Inch Samsung LED Monitor work on my Macbook pro?

I have a Mid 2009 Macbook Pro and I am not sure what ports it has. I see 2 ports apart from the USB (2 ports), Power and LAN. I am planning to buy a 27 inch Samsung LED monitor for the laptop. Here are the Macbook specs:
Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo 2.26 Ghz
    Memory - 8 GB
    Graphic - NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
    VRAM - 256 MB
I have read that even if I buy a monitor with speakers, I won't be able to get sound from them. What are my options if I buy a monitor with or without speakers? Will I need to connect to speakers using USB? The monitor has an HDMI port... in that case what cable will I need to connect the monitor to my MBP?
Thanx in advance for all your help.

Well you are in luck (I think) because the 2009 models actually output sound via HDMI with minidisplay port.**
you'll need to get this Mini DP
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1824ZM/A/Moshi_Mini_DisplayPort_to_HDMI_Adapt er?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
and an hdmi cord, and then just plug and play!

** to see if your model is compatible with outputting audio from minidisplay port.
in the comments from MM in Orlando, it says:
The best solution, instead of trying to figure out the date your mac was born and the cut-off, etc...
    1. Click on the Apple Icon in the top left corner of the screen.
    2. Click "About this Mac."
    3. Click "More Info."
    4. Click on "Audio (Built In)." *** If you see "HDMI Output or HDMI/DisplayPort Output
    - Then you are GOLDEN!!!! If not, you are like me and extremely frustrated
if you're out of luck like me, you can also try to get a miniToslink to Toslink cord, that is if your new samsung led supports it. I run mine into a 5.1 reciever so it doesn't matter if my monitor has one or not.

  • I just bought a new samsung 22" monitor and after talking to them found out it needs higher resolution then displayed in my settings, text resolution is bad. do I take back or can this be fixed?

I just bought a new Samsung 22" monitor. The text resolution is really bad. After talking to Samsung, I found that the needed resolution is higher then what my Mini-Mac shows available. Can this be fixed or do I return the monitor?

    Let's try again...
my cable goes from the "Thunderball" port on my mini with an adaptor to convert it to the regular cable
    You mean the Thunderbolt port.
What Mac mini do you have? Apple menu > About This Mac.
What Samsung monitor do you have?
    What cables are you using?
Have you tried holding Option and click the Scaled resolutions button in System prefs > Displays?

  • Samsung SMS27A850 monitor

As has been noted in several discussions on the net, Mavericks does not play nice with all third-party monitors and when hooking up one of these monitors, all the resolutions are not displayed (especially the higher resolutions such as 2560x1440).
Specifically, this happened when I recently purchased a Samsung SMS27A850 monitor (a 27" monitor). I hooked it up to my MBP Retina 13" via the Mini-DisplayPort-DVI adapter and the most I could get was 1080p resolution. I went on several of the boards and read up on what to do; from zapping the PRAM (several times) to running a ruby script to over-ride the manufacturers monitor EDID defaults (which *does* seem to work for Dell monitors). Long story short, none of this worked for me and my forlorn monitor.
Here's what I had to do to finally get it working:
    1) Purchase the Apple Mini DisplayPort Dual-Link DVI Adapter ($99 US, $109 CDN... so factor that in to your pricing of the monitor).
    2) Connect the monitor to your Mac.
    3) Reboot and zap the PRAM (hold down the Command-Option-P-R keys and wait for two reboots, then release the keys after the second chime).
    4) Once rebooted, bring up System Preferences -> Displays.
    5) Select the desired resolution for your new display which *should* have all of them displayed.
5a) **If** the higher resolution is not displayed (eg, 2560x1440) then hold down the Option key and click on the "Scaled" setting... it should then appear.
    That's it!

A good option for this monitor is to get a mini displayport to displayport cable. These are cheap and can handle the resolution.

  • Samsung 2263DX monitor

I've bought a Samsung 2263DX monitor. The specs claim that it supports Mac. The issue is that the built in web camera, speakers and the extra USB monitor do not work. The issue seems to be that Samsung have not bothered to come up with proper drivers. I searched discussions and reviews before I bought the monitor. The issue was nowhere mentioned. Maybe I'm doing something wrong - can anyone help resolve the problem? Thanks.

Well, Samsung's answer wasn't particularly helpful. Their interpretation of "Mac-compatible" is that they manufacture monitors with "Pug-n-Play" features, and that Mac handles creating the drivers - or should recognize their wares.
Got through to them within ten seconds, though!
I use a Samsung 226BW on my mini ... a great, inexpensive monitor. But make the call - and see if you can get anywhere with them. The product brochure does, indeed, claim "Mac OS9, OS X compatibility."

  • How to speed-up my 1.4ghz PPC Mini?

I have a 1.4ghz PPC Mini with RAM upgraded from 256mb to [it's max] 1gb. It's running OS 10.4.10 and has all the Apple Software updates. The 80gb HD has 17gb free.
It used to be quite zippy, but now it seems to struggle with the most basic tasks; Having more than 2 apps open at once will fire the fan up and have the SBBOD spinning away for a few seconds.
I also use Adobe's CS2 and can barely run Illustrator, Photoshop and Safari at the same time.
I use Onyx every 2-3 weeks and it is also left on overnight (sometimes sleeping) so the OS's cron scripts are also run, and repair permissions through Disk Utility. I have also used Tech Tool to defragment and optimise the system. Tech Tool tests also show that the whole Mini is healthy with no problems.
What else can I do to speed up this little Mini?
I feel like I'm outgrowing it! (maybe that's my answer) :o/
    Thanks, Lee

It sounds like you have taken care of most of the "usual suspects".
It's possible that you have a dashboard widget or some other small program/utility that you have added that is a memory hog or has a memory leak.
Fire up Utilities > Activity Monitor, click on the System Memory tab and tell us what PageIns/Outs look like.
If not a memory hog/leak problem, other suspects would be fonts, or retries/timeouts trying to access some external drive or remotely mounted resource like dot-mac.
It would also be helpful to know if the computer speeds up (for a while) after completing a fresh reboot.
Another diagnostic technique to try would be to create a new account, and see if performs faster than your standard account. That would suggest a problem with a preference file in your standard account.
