Samsung 42-inch Plasma TV just died

My 42-inch HP-T4254 started turning on and off by itself last Saturday and as of Sunday wouldn't stay on at all.  I had a certified Samsung repairman check out the TV early this week and for $99, he told me that it would cost $650 to replace the power supply and motherboard.  I've had this TV for just over 2 years so it was out of warranty.  This is coming at a pretty bad time to have to buy a new TV, which seems like the only option when the repair cost is 75% of the replacement cost.  Obviously, I'm not very pleased with both Best Buy and Samsung at the moment.  Is there anything that Best Buy can do to help me?

it really sad that everyone of you has the same solution of paying more money for extended protection. When you spend thousands of dollars on a tv, why should you have to pay more money for protection on a tv. The tv should last for longer then 2 years. IT should last at least bare min 8 years. I've have a tube tv that i bought 10 years ago and it works fine to this day. I have video game equipment for example a sega nomad and a ps2 that still work just as good as new "old technology".  I have an xbox360 that ive had to have replaced 4 times in 2 years because i would get a red ring of death "hardware failure". their is no excuse for that. the xbox 360 has a terriable defect rate/product failure rate.  The bottom line is the manufacture needs to build quality products that will last and they are not doing that.  They are not building the same quality products they used to. They rush products to market without making sure they are going to be durable, dependable, live up to Tonsumer expectations, ect.... They are getting away with this! They are conditioning you guys to think hey its the way its supposed to be. They are building crappy products and selling them to you and charging even more for a product to protect plan. Dont get me wrong their are going to be defects in manufacturing but as many complaints as ive seen and studied in school and seen in the business world is unacceptable. Now you guys just think its ok thats the way its supposed to be... you should be every bit as mad as the guy that posted this form with his tv going out. its not his fault he didnt want to spend the extra money on the protection on the tv. its the manufactures fault for rushing a product to market without making sure it works, its the manufactures fault for not standing behind their product, its the manufactures fault for not matching up the four marketing P's, its the manufactures fault for not utilizing the many manufacturing techniques that are avaible today that greatly reduce defects, and most of all its YOUR FAULT for condoning the manufactures behavor and continuing to buy from them and saying its ok i just need to buy the extra protection. It's not ok its not the way its supposed to be! Think if you bought a brand new car and it broke down multiple times, this is the same thing! To the guy thats tv broke sorry to hear about that man. If i were you i would call samsungs exective constumer services department (or whatever it is, they have customer service and then they have a level above that you want to complain to them) and complain it will get you some where. Remind them that the cost of fixing your tv is worth a lot less them complaining to 100's of people about how bad their products are and losing those possible customers. It will work it has worked for me when i got screwed over a couple times with the service industry and HH gregg. Just get by the customer service people on the phone and go above them and you will get somewhere. good luck to you. Do your homework, educate yourself, and dont put up with the bs.

  • Connecting Samsung 50 inch plasma 5054

I connected my new Core 2 Duo Mac Mini to my Samsung 5054 50 inch plasma. However, if I check the overscan checkbox in the system preferences, the screen is clipped at the edges and I can't see the outside extremeties. If I uncheck the the overscan checkbox, the display does not occupy the whole screen. Is there a way to set up the display so that they screen image fits evenly on the screen?

Very common problem. Some people have success using programs like DisplayConfigX or SwitchRes X to alter the format and timing to make the Mac screen fit the TV. But it is a very hit or miss process. And it may not even work.
Another possibility is that the display itself may have size and centering controls for the video image. Sometimes they are accessed through special service menus that are not published in the user guide. If that's the case, you need to find these on the internet using a search. Good luck.

  • Samsung 51 inch Plasma Tv

Good Afternoon, I just bought this tv 2 months ago and I am noticing around the letters on the cable its like shadowing around the letters? how can I fix this I attached a pic on what it looks like

Although I can't see the picture you attempted to post, what you described sounds like image retention.  Try turning down the contrast and brightness to see if this continues.  I had a Samsung plasma with contrast set at about 90 and brightness somewhere in the 60s and started having image retention problems after about 10 months with it getting progressively worse.  Others in this forum felt these settings were too high especially since I watched a lot of ESPN with the logos and tickers at the bottom.  I no longer have this TV though.  Keep in mind that images left on the screen for long periods of time can still cause image retention and possibly even burn-in for which there is no "cure".  Some owners never have problems, others aren't so lucky.  So be careful about still images on the screen for prolonged periods of time.

  • My late-2009 27inch iMac just died

My late-2009 27 inch iMac just died. Or something
I was working with iPhoto, trying to crop a photo, and the curser worked but that affected nothing on the screen.
So, I tried to FORCE QUIT with the keyboard, and nothing.
So, I held the ON button down until the computer shut down.
Then, sadly. It will not start.
I unplugged it, waited 10 minutes, plugged it and tried to turn it on again, nothing. Does not respond to the ON button.
    Help?

Out of the black, it started up again.
    Thanks anyway.

  • Samsung 24-inch display auto-dimming problem

Right out of the box 3 or 4 months ago, my Samsung 24 inch 2443 BW dims uncontrollably whenever I have a window open that has mostly black or other dark-colored background - say about 60% black; I can actually watch the whole screen and desktop - not just the window - brighten or darken in response to manipulating the images and/or background color in the window. This is on a G5 1.8GHz dual with a GeForce FX 5200, running 10.4.11. It doesn't depend on the ambient light. The System Prefs doesn't offer any way to control auto-dimming. I'm thinking it could be a driver problem, maybe related to the fact that I am still using 10.4.11.
Has anyone had a similar problem and found a fix or workaround? Thanks.

Problem solved! This morning (yes, I should've done this 6 months ago, soon after I bought the unit). As a prelude to returning the unit to Samsung, I finally took the 2443 BW back to my local Apple (specialist) dealer (not an Apple Store. They're independent and don't usually "do PCs", although they can if required). Of course I made sure I had some images that were guaranteed to demonstrate the problem. Their "service genius" watched the behavior for less than a minute and promptly fixed it. (Kudos! )
All that was needed was to "turn off" the "Dynamic Contrast" option from the Samsung's menu (MENU > Picture > MagicBright > Dynanamic Contrast), by selecting one of the other (static) options instead - I preferred the "Sport" option.
When I got it reconnected at home, I adjusted the contrast and brightness settings on the Samsung's Menu to suit me. I am also using the (Apple > System Preferences > Displays > Color > Adobe RGB (1998) Display profile instead of the one labeled "SyncMaster"). The SyncMaster display profile makes the screen look very washed-out.
This dialogue has definitely helped, by helping to pinpoint the monitor itself as the most likely source of the problem.
    Cheers

  • Macbook to Samsung 32 inch 720p

Hello. I have a Macbook and a Samsung 32 inch 720p TV. I have recently moved it from one room to another and I suppose that because it was moved it did not keep the same resolution settings as before. Where it used to allow me a 1344x756 (interlaced) display it now no longer does. I was perplexed because my TV is not 720i so I guess I shouldn't have had an interlaced option but I did and it was perfect. I had to got to the number of recent items under the display in the menu bar to find that now i no longer have it. I have tried looking in the number of recent items even set it to ten but still no such option. My question is two part. First why did it change and second how can i get it back? Looked every where. Hopefully someone here can help! Im desperate for a solution. Thank you!

Hey, I think I can help sort of... I just bought a brand new Macbook Pro 13inch last week. I bought an display port to HDMI to connect to my tv and a mini dvi from my computer to the HDMI cable. I would never be able to find the resolutions I wanted. I would always be stuck with the 13inch resolution just blown up on my large 32inch SAMSUNG 720i or pi idk. This looked very odd and more or less didn't allow me to get the resolution I wanted to use my large 32inch like the apple 30inch displays...you get what I'm saying. Well I dl this program called insomnix and had it running. Then I put my computer to sleep manual and it bypass Insominx I think. Then in the morning I turned on my Samsung and was watching TV, I decided to flip on the laptop so I moved my bluetooth mouse and woke my computer up from sleeping. This allowed my tv to pick up the laptop"THE HWOLE TIME THIS IS GOING ON MY COMPUTER IS CLOSED THE SCREEN IS NOT ON AND ALLOWS THE SAMSUNG TO BYPASS THE LIMITATIONS ON SCREEN RESOLUTION I GET STUCK WITH WHEN MY LAPTOP SCREEN TURNS ON FORCING MY SAMSUNG TO ACCOMMODATE". I DK WHY THIS IS ALL IN CAPS BUT IT IS PROBABLY REALLY IMPORTANT TO THE WHOLE SITUATION.

  • Insignia 50 inch plasma question

Just bought a Insignia® 50" Class / 1080p / 600Hz / Plasma HDTV last saturday at your best buy located in Tulsa, OK . Picture and everything is amazing but I noticed if I leave it on the netflix screen for more then 10-20 minutes without moving or watch sportscenter or play xbox I get a partial burn in on the screen. It goes away after a little bit, but I was wondering if this was common with these plasma's if so I may want to return it and pay a bit more for a samsung or sony that is less likely to have this issue. If this is no concern and just normal please let me know as this is the first plasma I've owned over 32 inches. thanks in advance
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I know how you feel when you think the TV might not be "perfect".  I have the Samsung 42" 450 series (720p) which is one of their low end plasmas.  I've never left an image frozen on the screen for that period of time that you mentioned.  Dark tickers on ESPN, yes, for hours and no issue.  I can't speak for Insignia plasma TVs, but I understand that this type of image retention is relatively common particularly when the TV is new.  I hear about break in periods to be more careful for a few weeks or so, but I don't know if it's true.  Yeah, I would wait and see how it goes within your 30 days too.  May not hurt to contact Insignia directly to see if they think it's normal too just to gain a little peace of mind.  Although I haven't had this issue, that doesn't mean it couldn't happen on the Samsung or other plasmas as mentioned above about the Pannys.  Best of luck.

  • HELP - Table Stand for 42 inch plasma

We bought a 42 inch plasma tv about five years ago.  We wall mounted it and about a year ago we cleaned out the garage and through out the stand.
We are wanting to dismount the tv and place on a tv stand/cabinet.  I searched the internet and can not find a replacement stand and our brand has been discontinued.
Does anyone have any ideas were we can find a stand or any ideas?

I don't know why I thought you mentioned it was a Samsung. I should sleep more and do this less. You can buy a tv stand that you can hang the tv on the back of the stand. Best Buy sells them from Whalen, Bello, Init.

  • HT201412 Iphone 4s just died.

My phone just died. My sleep/wake button is also broken and i have been using assist to turn put the phone to sleep. How do i see if it really is dead and get it turned back on. Its on

Hey neigh.oink and btacres thanks for the replies.
so I tried that link you posted, i tried connecting it to a wall plug and it turned back on but there's no signal. it just says searching and the wifi isn't working, as in, it doesn't give me the option to turn on the wifi... also, when i disconnected it from the wall plug it died again and didn't turn back on (despite the battery being 100%)..
This is really odd because I had the battery replaced last month...
I still don't know what to do.. it won't respond when I connect it to my laptop to restore it either!!
It's sad that I'm so dependent on my phone but I feel so helpless without it!

  • How do I connect my Samsung Series 8000 plasma tv to my 27" imac

How do I connect my Samsung Series 8000 plasma tv to my 27" imac (2.8 GHz Intel Core i7) to use as a display?

Here you go (no financial or other interest in this web site or company):
    http://www.kanexlive.com/iadapt51
I believe we have the same model of iMac (late 2009) in which unfortunately Apple did not provide audio signals in the mini-DisplayPort out port.  This Kanex adapter will pick up your audio as well as the DisplayPort signal and combine them in an HDMI signal that you plug into the Samsung HDTV.

I have a pioneer 50 inch plasma + I purchased new from the company back in 2005.   I tried to hook up an Apple Tv to the pioneer receiver that came with the TV.   I can not get it to work.
The receiver has two HDMI  inputs in the back.  However they say they are not for PC's.  Furthermore they must be set up by going to the home menu.    I tried everything, but I can not get the receiver to talk to the Apple TV. I even tried a connector that uses an HDMI to the Apple TV that has the other side of the cable as 5 RCA cables.  I could not get the receiver to see the Apple TV.   I have a newer TV in the house, it has no problem talking with the Apple TV.  But this older system seems to be handicapped in its ability to talk with the newer Apple TV system.
    My Email is [email protected]
    Do you have any suggestions
    Thanks

I could not access the Apple TV on the television.   If I put the Apple TV directly into by TV, I have an external sound system (entertainment system), therefore I worry that I would by pass the audio.
Thanks for taking your time to attempt to help!   Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Is this possible?
    Hope so!

    Thanks Ogelthorpe.
Just bought an enclosure to try that also.

The iPhone is not a backup device.
Restore the iTunes library from the backup that should be kept of your media and other important files.
Syncing the iPhone to a new library (in this case, it will be a new library unless you have a complete backup of the iTunes folder pre-crash) will result in the media on the device being removed and replaced with content from the new library.
As for iOS5, we really do not know until Apple officially releases it.

My 24" iMac just died and will not power-up.  What can I do?

Bring it into an Apple Store for a free diagnosis and quote for cost of repair/replacement of parts.
If the costs are $500 or over, consider using the money toward a new or "newer" (used) Mac.
