Samsung 52 inch 750

I have read several posts regarding late model TVs that lose Verizon's signal.  My new TV is Samsung 52 in. 750.  The problem is sometimes when I turn the tv on I get no signal or while watching tv the signal gets lost.  Verizon wants me to use  broadband cables.  Or just do as I always do (again as per Verizon instructions) power down the tv and verizon's box from the wall and wait for a few minutes.  Then power up the verizon box first and wait until the time resets and believe this or not turn back on the verizon box.  The Verizon box turns itself off after you initially turned it back on.  Then turn on the TV.  Then I will get the signal.
Any suggestions?
Of course Samsung blames Verizon.  Actual Samsung responded to me saying that several of their customers have this problem and that Direct TV works with the Samsung 52 in. TV with no reported problems.

You can not connect to the USB port on the TV. You need to purchase an AV cable or use a WiFi network and Apple TV to stream the content using AirPlay.

  • Samsung Series 750 LCD Questions

I’ve had my TV about a week and am still learning all the ins and outs.
    Couple of questions:
    1.     On the inside flap of the owner’s manual, under “Precautions When Displaying a Still Image”, it says, the following:
“Watching the LCD TV in 4:3 format for a long period of time may leave traces of borders displayed on the left, right, and center of the screen caused by the difference of light emission on the screen.  Playing a DVD or a game console may cause a similar effect to the screen.  Damages caused by the above effect are not covered by the Warranty.”
Question(s):  What constitutes a “long period of time”?  I didn’t think LCDs had screen-burn issues.  Also, when HD channels broadcast a show that is in SD, it is in pillar box.  Even DirectTV stretch mode does not prevent this.  The only solution is to put the TV in “wide mode”.  Kind of a hassle.  Will watching a two hour TV show or movie be an issue?
    2.     What is the best Auto Motion Plus custom setting for watching sports (Blur Reduction setting and Judder Reduction setting)?  Or, is one of the presets (“Clear”, “Standard”, or “Smooth” ) best?
    Thanks for the help!

1: Assuming you have normal/modern viewing habits, one really doesn't need to worry about 4:3 burn on an LCD. I've had my Pioneer plasma for about 3 years now, and I can only barely notice any 4:3 burn. Samsung mentioned this in the manual simply to cover their rear-ends.
    2. The 120hz is a feature. The best setting is the setting you like.

  • External HD: Buy vs. Build

I bought my iMac (the 24", 2.8 GHz machine with the 320 GB HD) in May, and have been trying to decide on what to get for an external backup drive (perhaps even two such drives). Searching these (and other) discussion boards hasn't been much help, as each vendor has its supporters and detractors (clearly, based on individual experience and anecdotal reports).
Many folks have pointed out that buying from a "name brand" vendor—even when buying a specific model—is often a "crap shoot," as most such vendors are "assemblers" and not manufacturers, so you never quite know what's in the box (i.e., they change their suppliers as often as some folks change their underwear). Though I've been fairly fortunate buying from such vendors in the past, I'm inclined to agree that luck has played a major role.
These same folks suggest “building your own” by choosing your own separate enclosure and drive, noting that you can then have much more control over the likely performance and reliability characteristics of the finished product. However, beyond suggesting places to go to find enclosures and drives, and providing some rather general guidelines, I’ve yet to see them offer any more specific recommendations.
    Suggestions?

IMO, it's best to buy the external enclosure and drive separately. That's about the
only way to be sure you're getting a high-performance drive -- and it's often less
expensive than a "pre-assembled" external with an "economy" drive mechanism.
With a separate external enclosure, it's easy to upgrade or swap drives (without
voiding the warranty) -- and you also get the drive manufacturer's full warranty
coverage (5 years for Seagate drives).
The 5-year warranty is very attractive, and the Seagate mechanisms seem to be well liked. But then I've read some recent reviews of the LaCie d2 Quadra (which carries a 5-year warranty and is selling for only $150 on Amazon.com), and it is very “tempting,” despite my extreme reluctance (i.e., I haven’t any idea what I’d be buying).

There are lots of good SATA-based enclosures (look for an Oxford OXUF924/934
chipset). Here are my favorites -- good prices, handy slide-in trays, quiet (fanless),
and simple assembly (four screws, no messing with internal cables/connectors):

This likely would be the kind I’d be looking for, as I think it would make more sense to go for the extra money to get a Firewire 800 rather than 400. However, some of the user comments (“Sensitive to static discharge..., Feet are not great, unusual USB A-A connection, Firewire 800 cable looks cheap ...“) tends to dampen my enthusiasm.

The Seagates look nice; I haven’t a clue about the Samsungs.
Macgurus likes the Seagates, as well as the Icy Docks. As a matter of fact, they’ll assemble them in a package (at a slight premium—see <http://macgurus.com/productpages/firewire/MB559.php>).

BTW, drive performance (sustaind R/W speed) is especially important with
    FW800. All of the above drives are rated at > 100 MByte/s -- +when nearly+
empty -- but like any modern HDD, the speed drops by about half when
    the drive is nearly full.
Any FW800 external will work on a FW400 port (with a cheap 6-pin to 9-pin
firewire cable). So, more expensive "quad interface" drives have no advantage
over simple USB/FW800 units. (The eSATA interface is useless with iMacs.)
I’m on weak ground here...I don’t have a good handle on the different interfaces and the considerations surrounding slapping a SATA drive in a Firewire/USB enclosure.

  • MacBook Pro 15.4" Early-2008 Memory Ram Upgrade

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro Early-2008 model and I would like to know the maximum memory ram I can upgrade it to. Right now, I have 4GB of Ram and it is running on Intel Core 2 Duo 2.6GHz.
Tell me if you need additional details to determine it.
    Thanks,
    Oakcapy

Yes, that looks like the right RAM. OWC makes great RAM, and it comes with a lifetime warranty. I bought the 4 GB set some years ago from OWC and it has worked flawlessly ever since. OWC is definitely a trustworthy web site.
As for the hard drive, you can only install a 1 TB drive if you have a 17" original MBP because the only 1 TB drives I know of are all 12.5 mm tall. Your 15" MBP has to have a drive no more than 9.5 mm tall.
That means the largest capacity you can install would be 750 GB. There are several 5400 RPM 750 GB drives to choose from, and both Western Digital and Samsung make 750 GB drives that are 7200 RPM. I installed the 7200 RPM WD 500 GB Scorpio Black in my Mac when the original Fujitsu drive failed, and I have been very happy with it.
Be sure to check the dimensions of any drive you do find, because until recently, many of the 750 GB drives were also 12.5 mm tall, and there may still be some out there.
Check both Newegg and Tiger Direct for drives, as you can often find individual drives on special. Generally their prices are better than OWC for drives, although you can't beat OWC for a lot of things. I have bought from both over the past several years and never had a problem with either one of them. I like the way Tiger Direct packages their drives for shipping in a plastic clamshell, but sometimes Newegg will have a drive when Tiger Direct does not.
Generally when I want a drive, I check OWC, Newegg, and Tiger Direct to see who has the best deal at the moment. For RAM and really great firewire enclosures, definitely go with OWC. Also, sign up to be notified when OWC has their garage sales--always lots of great stuff on them for great prices.
    Good luck!

  • Portege R830 - Information request

    Hello,
i have a Portege R830-10R, does it have SATA III?
Will I notice a big difference if I decide to change to na SSD and add 4GB memory?
Thanks in advance for any reply!
    Have fun!

    Hi
I have an Portege R830. If you are asking about adding 4GB of RAM - I guess you're running a 64bit version of windows. I'm running a 32 bit version (for software compatibility) - so can't comment on the effectiveness of upgrading the RAM in this specific instance.
However I have installed a Samsung EVO 750 GB SSD.
This - in my view - has made a significant difference. Boot time is halved and in general opening a programme (such as PowerPoint) feels almost instantaneous.
On other PCs I have - the 'adding RAM' trick is something I've done - and it makes a difference. The SSD has been more impressive. I'd do it - but be careful about which SSD you choose. After much research - I'd only look at a Samsung.
    Hope this helps.

  • Partition boot volume?

I just bought a Samsung F1 750 to be used as solely as a boot drive (OS + applications ≈ 31 GB). To maximize performance, should I partition it to try to keep all activity on the edge of the platter(s), or leave it as one partition?

Hatter, I'm not the only one who finds Raptors to be noisy; they have reputation for it. Besides, they are expensive and have little if any performance advantage over the newest 7.5KRPM drives. (e.g.: http://www.barefeats.com/harper9.html). I am currently using my Raptor for Photoshop scratch because it is loud, and I want to hear the disk activity!
Why the talk about 74GB and 50%? I guess you're assuming I'm using the Raptor as a boot drive.
Anyway, I'm not going to partition, based upon http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25668.

My MSI K8NGM2-NBP is giving problems with the red in the video, first was intermitent and later died, only green and blue are working, so I decide to upgrade with an PCI-E video card to solve the problem then I bought an MSI geforce 7300 gs and it didn't work,,no video at all, thinkiing that the msi card came damage I changed for as MSi 8400 gs and the same problem no video at all,,only the onboard video had video.
I verify that the bios was the PCI-E the primary as it was, then I went to my father house which have an ASUS A8N with the same nforce 6150 to see if my mobo was the problem and it didn't work either with the bios set to PCI-E as primary so is not a problem of bios setting, is a problem of compatibility, it looks this first generation of PCI-E motherboards only works with old first generation PCI-E cards.
I'm frustrated thinking the need of change mobo, ram and procesor because I cant find any information about my motherboard PCI-E compatibilities.

  • Macbook pro not starting (Hard disk damaged)

    Hello,
My macbook pro is not starting. I believe it is a mid 2012 model, 13 inch, 750 gb disk space, not sure if i5 or i7, OS Mavericks 10.9.3 or 10.9.4 not sure. I tried running disk utility and it said my disk was damaged; tried repairing but I get a message that disk utility cant repair the disk. I read about safe mode startup so I did that, but it does not work. The progress bar goes up to around 5% and the computer shuts down. Even if I don't press shift key the same thing happens; progress bar goes to 5% and computer shuts down.
I have a time machine backup on an external hard drive so I can use that to restore the system but that backup was done 2 weeks ago, I've some new files in the computer so I'd rather not do that. I want to be able to start my computer and copy files and folders onto external disk then perhaps reinstall the OS again. I also read about Fsck but I don't really understand that.
I don't know about computers well, please help me..

Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
If the above does not bring about a resolution, then you need to erase the drive and reinstall OS X:
Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • 5900 Ultra with only 128 mb DDR ?

    Hello people!
I just bought a nBox with a GeForce FX 5900 Ultra with 256 mb DDR. But after installing the latest driver (5214) provided by MSI, I've just discovered that my VGA Card has only 128 mb DDR. I found it strange because I don't know any Ultra version with 128 mb.
I'd like to have the help of yours to solve this problem. What can be the solution? A new BIOS version? (I don't find any in Live Update 3) A new diferent driver? Taking the Card back to the vendor?
Please people! Help me about this problem.
    Thank You All!

Tell me if I'm a mile off here by all means, but something weird happened with my system a couple of days ago.  The AGP card in my Sig until a couple of days ago was doing exactly as described above and was strangely reporting.....
Total Local Video Memory @ 256mb
Total Local Texture Memory @ 256mb....and then frustratingly....
    Total AGP Memory @ 128mb
.....Obviously it should have been reporting @ 256mb and I also thought I had a duff card too after trying a whole manner of the usual tricks to try and locate the source of the problem and sort it.  I know it's not the mentioned 5900 too, but it did it all the same and depending on what Application you use to view that information as well,  then unless you had one that would report more detailed info like above, if merely using Control Panel for example, then it would report just the Total AGP of 128mg (clearly incorrectly so)).
Then, I brought the new Monitor also now in my Sig those couple of days ago and installed the Drivers for it, that's the only thing that has changed on my system for a while.....
I read this thread straight away with interest on seeing it after noticing my FX5600 doing the exact same, and on reaing these posts I went back to double check it again, and I have just found that mine is now correctly reporting at 256mb...HHHhhhMMmmmm.  Now it could well be coincidence, but it does seem that in my case either the Monitor itself or the improved Drivers specifically for it sorted it instantly strangely enough, maybe something to try, you just never know sometimes do you.  The old Monitor wasn't exactly crap either (that was a 17" Samsung Syncmaster 750s, which very soon I'll also be plugging that in too for a Dual Monitor capability and hope that on sodoing that the problem doesn't return either, but if it did I'd be able to tell you for certain too obviously)!!!
I'm wondering if the ONLY other thing that may have had an influence is I used the AGP Display "D.O.T" and set that up to the "Commander" Setting too??  As said, other than that NOTHING at all has been changed on my system for a fair while!!!
In all probability it won't, but maybe there's an outside chance that this occurence is relatedas the FX5600 and the 5900 aren't that disimilar or detached from one another when all is said and done either other than the blatantly obvious lol!!
I'm posting in hope that maybe it could be of use after reading your posts and otherwise hope that those concerned are sorted and rid of the issue in the near future too, good luck !!

  • What causes the KT3 Ultra 2 not booting?

    Hi,
I have a mobo KT3 Ultra2 (MS-6380E ver:1.0) and Athlon +2100 since 1 year now. It worked flawlessly, without overclocking, until last August when suddently it started to fail at boot. I thought the problem was due to the hot summer we got here. I unmounted the heatsink (Zalman CNPS6000-Cu), cleaned it and mounted again using white thermal paste. The maximum temperature given by the CPU sensor was 50 Celsius. The computer worked for few days and the problem showed up again. Then I thought was the memory (512MB transcend, TS64MLD64V3F5). I phoned (Nokia 6210) the shop (funprice) and brought the stick back for testing and they said it was okay. Curiously, the problem went away and I enjoyed a nice September free of problems.
Two days ago the same problem returned when I tried to install Mandrake 9.2. Firstly, the installation program hanged randomly at different stages, so I tryed different versions and OSes but the problem persisted.
At this moment the computer doesnt boot at all except if I clear the BIOS (A6380VMS v5.5). Cleaning the CMOS only allows me to reboot the computer few times, then it stops booting. usually, it doesnt show any video signal  (GeForce Ti-4200 TD8 and Samsung SyncMaster 750S) although the PSU (Enermax EG365AX-VE(G) of 353W) is working. Sometimes it hangs during the hard disk detection (maxtor 6Y060L0 and Plextor PX-W8432T), and some others it shows have of the summary table.
I really dont know what is happening here. I looked in this forum and some threads describe some of the symptoms I see, but the solutions given dont help me. I tried many different settings in BIOS, and even the factory settings alone. I tried some BIOS settings combinations of FSB clock Auto/manual (100/133) and RAM SPD/manual (100/133).
I would really apreciate any sort of help. Thanks

Last night I tried to run the memory test program but the computer didnt boot at all. I took everything out and only the processor was installed (no memory and no video). The thing didnt make any beep. Not even clearing the CMOS helped. The D-brachet showed sometimes the 1,3,4 LEDs in red, but most of the times only the 1,2 LEDs were in red. If the user guide is right, then it is a problem in the IDE controller.
Well, it was too late. I decided to have some sleep
This morning I tried again and worked!!! The thing beeped because there was no memory installed. Shutdonw. Quickly, I installed the the memory and video. Start. Works. I get into the BIOS to change the FSB clock from 100 to 133 (I guess, my Athlon XP +2100 uses 133MHz FSB). Save changes and reboot. Nothing, the LEDs 1,2 were in red :( Shutdown. Clear the BIOS. Start. Works. I ran the memtest program. I observed for some minutes and the 3 first tests passed OK, so I left the thing working for more hours. The final results will be posted here tomorrow.
I know that some computer problems get resolved overnight, but this too weird. Whats going on here?
Please, any sugestion or comment may help to save me the money of a new mobo.

    Ok ,
So i successed :D and i'm still alive lol
I think it will be a little bit long to explain what i done in details so i resume :
I put the mobo on a table and used an air cleaner first.
Second, I put on the mobo only the cpu and the cpu fan, I made as you suggest me, clear cmos : the Dled2 worked but blocked on the DRAM.
Finaly I put the DDR3 only one slot and it didn't work , the post was still bloqued on the dram. I tried with an other old one , still bloqued, i put the three slots of the new one, it worked...
I don't know where was the real problem but if it can helps someone

    Hi All,
My MBP configuration is as follows:
I presently have CRUCIAL M4 256MB SSD.  It is there for past 2 years no issues.  Now I need more room as am planning to create windows partition with VS2012 with TFS.   I am planning of Samsung 840 pro 512gb.    My questions are as follows:
    A) Does this work on Mid 2010, 15inch 2.66GHz with 8GB Ram (above configuration) MBP?
    B) Will it be faster than my CRUCIAL M4 256GB.?
How much it will cost.? who is the reliable retailer in Singapore.?
    Thanks and regards

The graphics processor of your MacBook is failing. Not so surprising for this particular model, I'm afraid.
