Samsung 55" Plasma TV

I have a Samsung 55" plasma TV that is less than two years old. I had the geek squad come out and calibrate the TV and color. When the color on the TV is white I've developed a horizontal bar that has a pinkish/purple hue that runs the length of the TV. Is this a sign that my TV (less than 2 years old) is on it's way out ? Will it eventually affect the rest of my TV, or do I need to have it calibrated again ?  PN58C550G1

A calibration can not cause, nor repair the problem you're describing. Have it looked at by a certified repair technician if it's still under warranty, otherwise buy a new one.

  • Connecting a Macbook to a Samsung 5054 Plasma

Can someone help me out with connecting my Macbook to my Samsung 5054 Plasma. I have the mini dvi to video adapter, but I still don't get a picture? Please help. Thanks so much.

What sort of input does your plasma allow? HDMI or DVI would be best. VGA would be OK.
I connect to my Panasonic plasma as follows:
Macbook==> mini-DVI to DVI adapter ==> DVI to HDMI cable ==> Yamaha RX-V663 receiver HDMI in ==> HDMI cable out ==>Panasonic plasma
Of course having the Yamaha receiver in the chain is optional, but in my case I also run digital optical audio to the receiver.

  • Connecting my Macbook Pro to Samsung 42" Plasma

    Hi,
I have just purchased a new Samsung 42" plasma TV (PS42B450) and wanted to connect my Macbook Pro laptop (mid 2009) up to my TV and use as a media center. I got some advice from the Apple store and went off logged onto the website and bought Dr. Bott Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter, then purchased a digital audio lead from Maplins and then expected it all to work...
I got the picture up fine and looks awesome but there is no sound? It is now driving me crazy and the only solution is now to buy another cable (Mini DisplayPort + USB Audio to HDMI Adapter) and from reading many forums and searching the web, is this the solution?
Has anyone else had this problem if so how did you solve it?
    Many Thanks
    Andy Sarbutt

    Hi Andy,
I think you're mistaken. You are using the "DVI Audio In" input on your TV for the audio cable, correct? And, you're also using a digital (toslink, optical) audio cable, plugged into that input? If so, that will not work.
The specifications for the TV on the Samsung website make no mention of a digital audio input. I also looked through the manual for the TV at the link you gave. Page 9 shows the following image:
That is the cable that it shows going from the DVI audio output of some device (say your MBP) and into your TV on the other end. It is clearly a 3.5mm (1.8") analog lead, not a digital (optical) cable.
I still think you need a standard 1/8" to 1/8" stereo minijack cable to get sound on your TV. One with a headphone plug on both ends.
Let us know how it turns out, if you do find one of those.

I have a 2011 i5 iMac and I am struggling to connect it to my Samsung PS50C680 Plasma TV. I am using a MDP to HDMI cable and using HDMI1 on the TV as shown in the manual. No matter which I turn on first etc the iMac cannot find the display and the TV shows no signal. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Any help would be appreciated.

  • How can I plug my phone or iPad into my Samsung hd plasma tv and watch movies I've downloaded from iTunes?

We are trying to watch avengers on our samsung hd plasma 1080i. I plugged USB into tv and phone. Selected the wise link option on my remote. Tv says nothing is plugged in. I have an iPhone and an iPad. So I can do either product for the download. If someone out there knows what I am doing wrong please tell me. Maybe I am using the wrong plug?? Just using phone charger plug in with USB on other end.

As Rudegar pointed out, the AV cable is an adequate option. But another option is to purchase an Apple TV. That's the only way to use Airplay from an iOS device (for now). I'm pretty sure no OEM TV's support Apple's Airplay technology as of yet. Apple wants you to purchase the Apple TV so don't hold out hope that they'll license the tech to TV manufacturers any time soon.
Check out Apple's demo of Airplay on their website and see if that's an option you might like. The AV cable is cheaper but IMO a cable of any kind is a cumbersome work around. And the Apple TV allows you to also play music and look at your pictures from any iOS device as well.
Re: your other question: "Can I see my iPad on the TV in general when hooked up?". The answer is, "Not yet". Only the "output" (IE: music, video, slideshows) can be seen through Airplay or the AV cable. You can't use the TV as a second monitor for your iOS device.
Lastly, you can't "break" your device simply by trying to hook it up to your TV. I had the same issue with my father this holiday with trying to convince him he couldn't break his camera by trying to hook it directly up via the USB connector on the TV.

  • Purchased Samsung 63 plasma 8000 series ghosting issues

I purchased a 63 Samsung 3D plasma 8000 series in 2/10 and the picture is fantastic, but I seem to be having ghosting issues when people move on the screen or with fast moving scenes.  I had a pioneer 50 plasma that was 5 years old that did not have this problem with people only blurring with fast moving scenes like sports.  The people and scenes are clear it's just the edges seem to be blurring or ghosting.  Is this normal or is there something I can adjust?  It is really irritating to me.  I thought this TV was supposed to be an improvement with blurring or ghosting but at present it seems to be worse.  Please advise.

    what was it's original function.
Motion Judder or Blur Reduction (named differently depending on brands of TV) is used to help compensate for the natural blur some content has. Unless you are watching something in its default recording such as 24p you will have at least some motion blur. Once again this is blur that is in the content not something plasmas technically have like LCD's are susceptible to.
So what does it do or supposed to do:
A standard video signal is actually a series of still images, flashed on screen so quickly that we believe we are watching a moving image. The typical frame rate used in North America is 60 frames per second (60Hz) meaning that a TV would display 60 individual still images every second. Sub-field drive is the method used to flash the individual image elements (dots) on a plasma panel. For each frame displayed on the TV the Sub-field drive flashes the dots 10 times or more, meaning that the dots are flashing 600 times per second (600Hz) or more. (Example: 60 frames per second x 10 sub-fields = 600 flashes per second). TV's will try to compensate content judder by inserting more sub-fields into the image. However it tends to have mixed results. Sometimes it works sometimes it completely fails and sometimes it overcompensates.
I personally have a Panasonic plasma and I keep the blur reduction off.

  • Mac Mini and Samsung 42" Plasmas

I'll be purchasing a Samsung HP-T4234 plasma soon and have noticed it will handle a PC signal of 1024x768. I realize it's not a very sharp resolution, but will it fill the entire widescreen? IT won't need to be stretched, will it? I'm not too sure of these types of things, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I am using the Samsung 204B, not sure if this is similar. I have an XP Pro machine (older) and my Mac Mini (current version) on a DVI KVM switch. I noticed if you loose the connection to the Windows PC I have to restart the computer to get the display back.
My video for the Mini would drop out every so often. I had to download SwitchResX and set up a custom setting of 1600x1200 with a 135MHz pixel clock for the monitor to work well with the Mini.

  • Samsung 43" Plasma 3D ( need help multiple levels.)

Ive recently decided to begin shopping for a TV. I looked at TV's at walmart. Thats where i found the Samsung 43" I  TV
without  3D for a little more then a hundred dollars cheaper. Then i found it on Best Buys site with 3D. So i decide thats the path im going for. They have a deal where it has 2 pair of 3D glasses included with it. If i were to do the thing where i pick it up from the store. would i still get the same deal on with the 3D glasses included? Or is that just a online thing? anyone know?  Also i know this has probably been discussed but im on my phone and the search feature isnt working right. But i pretty much decided on this TV due to 1. it has 600hz and i love the way it stays crisp watching sports. 2. its price is really affordable for a 3D tv. 3. The size is pretty much the biggest i should have for my room before its too big. If there are any other TV's people suggest looking at before buying it would be appreciated. Like i said, i apologize if this has been discussed but i couldnt search and it wasnt on the front page.

Plasma is what the Samsung is, and I would not put any technology above the other. Each has their pros and cons. For Plasma, they are typically not as bright, but much richer in your primary and sub colors, and also high in contrast (black and white shades). Motion is usually more natural, as Plasmas rely on a different refresh rate style than LCD/LEDs (google: Subfield drives). They also typically have a faster response, which makes them again better for motion. I would have to say that because of these attributes, Plasma, to me anyway, appears to be the better technology for 3D. Might be best to stop by your local store and check out their demos for yourself.
In regards to 720p/ 1080p- this refers to how many vertical lines of information your TV has; The more lines, the more resolute your picture. However, even a 1080p TV can only render what its source is broadcasting at. So if you're watching cable, that is only a 720p(1080i) broadcast (mostly). Your TV will polish the images, but still not be able to render them in full 1080p. Resolution itself is hard to justify a difference, but usually Bluray and other 1080p devices have other video elements that contribute to the quality of the picture--> HD Frame Rates, higher video and color bit rates, etc. So to answer your question, Bluray IS a noticeable difference, but not just because of 1080p alone.

Something seems to be really wrong with your setup. The standard frequency of a 6800K is already 4100Mhz and you say max would be 2175Mhz (assuming you mean under load). Try clearing cmos and retry: >>Clear CMOS Guide<<

  • Samsung f8500 plasma

Has anybody bought this TV? Is the price for the 51" a good deal?

    Hello stevet60-
I’ve not personally seen this TV, but it seems to have a very good price currently and if I’m looking at the correct one you are referring to here, it’s received a 4.8 rating out of 5 by our customers, so they seem to like it.  I’m not sure how popular plasma TV’s still are with 4K hitting the market, but from what I’ve heard, many people swear that plasma has some of the best colors out there.
    I hope that this helps!

  • Mac Mini Overscan issue 10.6.2 Samsung 42" Plasma

I connected my 2009 Mini OS10.6.2 to my PN42A450 via HDMI.
The top menu bar is mostly missing, so I then tried a using SwitchResX to make some modifications based on a few postings that I found online. The program then wouldn't let me save my settings once I figured I was getting close (I guess since it is a 10 free trial, and I had to reboot ten or so times) So I am still standign with the same issue.
I am willing to purchase SwitchResX, if I know for sure this issue can be corrected with my model TV.
I've seen the tons of posts where other people have the same issue on other TV brands or sizes. So I am just looking to see if anyone else found a resolution to this issue, and if it was by using SwitchResX, what the custom settings used were for the Front Porch, Back Porch, etc....
Any information would be helpful, I really purchased this with the intent to use it with the TV, and not another monitor.

Before messing with the resolution of the TV, you should first just try to change one setting on the Mac Mini:
Click on SYSTEM PREFERENCES and then DISPLAYS and the OPTIONS tab, and unselect OVERSCAN. That was enough to resolve the issue fully for me on a MAc Mini 2009 and Sony HDTV.

  • Want to run a Mac Mini into a 50" Samsung Plasma screen TV...will it work?

The TV is a Samsung PN50B850 Plasma screen with a VGA input: http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/samsung-pn50b850/4505-6482_7-33490381.htm l

From what I can tell it should just plug right into the VGA input on the TV...but my question is am I going to have any issues with resolution or anything like that?
Also, from the pictures it looks like the DVI to VGA adapter that apple offers is only like 3 inches long? Do they make them longer than this? I had planned on mounting the TV on the wall above my fireplace on an arm that tilts and swings out about 2-3 ft and just sitting the Mac Mini on the mantle...anyways I didn't want to go away on vacation, have my mom come over, adjust the TV, and send my Mac Mini to its untimely death:(

Could you please tell me the exact settings you have on your TV and your mac.
Under what menu are you selecting PC DVI?
What resolution and other settings do you have your mac set to?
Currently I have mine setup like so:
Mac Mini with mini dvi to dvi adaptor then a cable dvd to hdmi.
I then have that hdmi plug into port 2 of my tv that says (HDMI/DVI on it.
On the mac I have resolution set to 1920 x 1080 and i have overscan ticked.
The picture is OK but up close i would not say it is perfectly crisp (especially text) but from a about 6 feet away it seems fine.
Is the text on your screen pin sharp?
    Thanks in advance

  • Issue with streaming on Samsung plasma TV

Recently I watched a live stream from ustreamtv for a motorsports event on my desktop.  (ustream.tv/ultra4) While trying to switch to the tv (samsung 8000series plasma, hard wired via cat5) and getting to the stream site it asked for a Flashplayer update.  This I cannot do and when asked, Samsung says they only have version 10.0 and do not intend to update with future firmware or software updates to the TV.  now what?  I was able to watch the same event last year with no issues.  I have also contacted ustreamtv asking if they intend to come up with an app for samsung tvs that can then be added to set...no response so far.

Unfortunately, SmartTVs use Android OS and Google (Android) has ended all support for Flash (as of June 2012). There is no more Flash Player for Android, and being as it's now incompatible, there won't be another.
The latest versions that will run on Android are Flash Player 11.1 for Android 2.x and 3.x (11.1.111.73)  and Flash Player 11.1 for Android 4.0 (11.1.115.81).
Those ARE more recent than what you have (10) but they will still most likely get you a "You need the latest Flash Player to view this content" message from most sites.
