  • Problems with Macbook Pro 2,2 DVI to Samsung Plasma 40'' HDMI

Hi all, sorry if this sounds familiar, just want to check I've done everything.
Essentially, I'm attempting to connect the DVI (NOT Mini-DVI) output on my MacBook Pro 2,2 to the HDMI port (labelled HDMI2/DVI) input on my Samsung TV using this cable: http://tinyurl.com/37cfcum
Instead of becoming a second/mirrored display, the MacBook briefly looks as though it is attempting to connect (flash from blue), then nothing. TV displays "No Signal", and on the MacBook, System Preferences > Display gives the settings as if no external monitor were connected, and System Profiler > Hardware > Graphics/Displays > Display Connector indicates "No Display Connected".
Macbook connects fine using a DVI to VGA cable to an external 15'' Samsung LCD monitor, using either mirror or dual display.
I've tried the TV's other HDMI port, only to the exact same result.
I've also attempted using a DVI to HDMI adapter instead, similar to this: http://tinyurl.com/353ua4e and using a standard HDMI to HDMI cable from there to the TV, only to get the exact same result. The HDMI cable works brilliantly with the Xbox 360, which is direct HDMI-HDMI.
I've updated the TV to its latest firmware, and have sent off for Snow Leopard in the hope that something might change to help, but I'm not expecting miracles.
I'd really appreciate if anyone could make a suggestion for something I might be missing? I'm really new to the world of Macs, and although I'm enjoying it so far, from what I've heard so far, MacBooks hate HDMI and Samsung TVs
If it's any help, the TV is a Samsung Plasma 40'', model PS42B430, manuf. September 09.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
Edit: I'm basically looking to watch high definition TV/Movies; would much prefer not to go down the S-video or Composite route if possible!

Thanks Louie - it seems painful not to use HDMI, I've never really understood Apple's logic behind the anti-copy stuff they've done in the past but I think you're right, it's probably that
Regarding SVGA, connection-wise do you mean DVI->VGA->TV? My TV doesn't have a VGA input port Could I go DVI->VGA->HDMI->TV or DVI->VGA->Component->TV? There's S-video or composite, but I'd prefer to avoid if poss... what do you think?

  • Display Issues with 50" Samsung Plasma

I have a 50" Samsung Plasma, and I am trying to get the display settings right with my mac mini.
I have used the screen with my 2009 macbook running snow leopard via the mini display port -> hdmi cable with no problems, however, I wanted use it with my 2007 mac mini running tiger, via a dvi-hdmi cable. I got the cable and today have been trying to set the display setting right.
Whatever resolution I set the mini to, it won't fill the tv screen. If I select overscan, the tv keeps loosing the signal. I've been through all the settings on the manual but still to no avail. I could probably live with this as I'm displaying keynotes on a black background, but the picture is really pixilated. And video especially doesn't cope. Really unsure which end is the culprit!
Anyone have any clues. Eventually I am going to split the signal between two screens, but need to get it right on the first one!
Is it Tiger? DO I need to upgrade to leopard or snow leopard (both are at my disposal)

You are halfway there. I have a Samsung LCD and had the same problem. There is a setting on Samsung screens to do this.
For me it is under 'picture options' and is a setting called size. I chose 'screen fit' and it all works like a charm.
    Hope that helps.

  • MBP and Samsung plasma PS-50P96FDR. No 1920 x 1080 mode. Help

I connect my MBP 2.2 GHz to Samsung plasma using DVI-to-VGA adapter. But when I choose 1920x1080 mode on MBP for plasma, TV is showing picture for 2-3 seconds and turning off. It's work only in 1600x1200 mode.
What happend and what should I do?
PS3 work on Full DH Mode properly ...

There is no Options and no overscan button.
And I can't set in 1920x1080 mode frequency other then 59.9Hz. Others are greyed and unavaliable
I think the probles is 59.9Hz. But how can I change it to 60Hz or other?

  • Another Samsung Plasma Internal Crack Thread

    Greetings,
Just another of the many threads on Samsung Plasma problems.  Long story short, our family saved up Best Buy gift cards (Xmas, Birthdays, etc) for quite some time.  We eventually had enough to buy a brand new 60" Samsung Plasma TV for our family room about 6 months ago.  This weekend, I was watching TV during the afternoon.  I turned the TV off and took the kids out.  When I returned, the TV had sound, but no picture.  I immediately saw an internal crack inside the TV.  Obviously, my first thought was something damaged it, but it just wasn't possible since nobody was in the room during the time and there is absolutely no damage to the outside screen.
I called Best Buy who referred me directly to Samsung since it was under the one year warranty.  I am having someone look it over this week.  However, after reading the numerous horror stories from all over the web (Best Buy Forum, CNet, etc.) I already know what will happen.  Samsung will deny any claim, Best Buy will follow suit and I am out a very expensive TV.
I'm at the early stages with this whole process.  I have read about people spending months calling Best Buy and Samsung complaining about this common problem.  I have read about consumers filing FTC, BBB, Small Claims, Class Action, etc etc etc.  I was hoping to get some advice from people that have had luck getting their TV replaced.  Basically, what has worked and what is a waste of time.  I appreciate any help.  Mike

From reading on many forums, many have to settle for getting the parts for free and have to pay the labor. Very, very few seem to get a fix with no cost.
My opinion is font give up. It's going to suck and be highly annoying/irritating but this IS their problem. Most likely it will go to another Class action that won't pay out for a year.
Sorry you have to go through with this

  • Want to run a Mac Mini into a 50" Samsung Plasma screen TV...will it work?

The TV is a Samsung PN50B850 Plasma screen with a VGA input: http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/samsung-pn50b850/4505-6482_7-33490381.htm l
Hee are the tech specs: http://ecoustics-cnet.com.com/flat-panel-tvs/samsung-pn50b850/4507-6482_7-334903 81.html?tag=mncol;psum
From what I can tell it should just plug right into the VGA input on the TV...but my question is am I going to have any issues with resolution or anything like that?
Also, from the pictures it looks like the DVI to VGA adapter that apple offers is only like 3 inches long? Do they make them longer than this? I had planned on mounting the TV on the wall above my fireplace on an arm that tilts and swings out about 2-3 ft and just sitting the Mac Mini on the mantle...anyways I didn't want to go away on vacation, have my mom come over, adjust the TV, and send my Mac Mini to its untimely death:(

    mapexvenus
Could you please tell me the exact settings you have on your TV and your mac.
Under what menu are you selecting PC DVI?
What resolution and other settings do you have your mac set to?
Currently I have mine setup like so:
Mac Mini with mini dvi to dvi adaptor then a cable dvd to hdmi.
I then have that hdmi plug into port 2 of my tv that says (HDMI/DVI on it.
On the mac I have resolution set to 1920 x 1080 and i have overscan ticked.
The picture is OK but up close i would not say it is perfectly crisp (especially text) but from a about 6 feet away it seems fine.
Is the text on your screen pin sharp?
    Thanks in advance

  • Issue with streaming on Samsung plasma TV

Recently I watched a live stream from ustreamtv for a motorsports event on my desktop.  (ustream.tv/ultra4) While trying to switch to the tv (samsung 8000series plasma, hard wired via cat5) and getting to the stream site it asked for a Flashplayer update.  This I cannot do and when asked, Samsung says they only have version 10.0 and do not intend to update with future firmware or software updates to the TV.  now what?  I was able to watch the same event last year with no issues.  I have also contacted ustreamtv asking if they intend to come up with an app for samsung tvs that can then be added to set...no response so far.

Unfortunately, SmartTVs use Android OS and Google (Android) has ended all support for Flash (as of June 2012). There is no more Flash Player for Android, and being as it's now incompatible, there won't be another.
The latest versions that will run on Android are Flash Player 11.1 for Android 2.x and 3.x (11.1.111.73)  and Flash Player 11.1 for Android 4.0 (11.1.115.81).
Those ARE more recent than what you have (10) but they will still most likely get you a "You need the latest Flash Player to view this content" message from most sites.

  • HDMI Audio issue with Samsung Plasma

    Hi all,
I have a mid 2010 Mac Mini that I bought for my HTPC. I am unable to get the HDMI audio to work after trying a number of connection possibilities. Here's the setup -
Mac Mini to Samsung via HDMI cable (1.3a) in either HDMI port - no audio
Mac Mini to Samsung via HDMI cable currently working for my uverse service - no audio
Mac Mini to Insignia LCD via HDMI cable in either HDMI port- no audio
I thought it was hardware, so I made a genius appointment and took it in. They gave me a new mini. Same exact issue.
When I switch to SAMSUNG in the sound properties, it tells me "The selected device has no output controls"
    Video works fine.
What am I doing wrong? Did I just get two bad boards? This is really freaking annoying.

I have the same issue... perfect image on a Samsung TV UE32EH5300, but no sound. I tried changing the input name to HDMI/PC (and tried all others) with no success.
Altough I noticed one rare thing. I opened Mountain Lion AudioMidi Configuration and selected the HDMI output. Can't move the volume controls because these are supposed to be controlled on the TV. But when clicking at the Speaker configuration and making a test for L/R speakers... each TV  speaker (connected by HDMI) reproduced statics.
THEN I'M CONFUSED!!!!... how can I hear sound produced by the computer but can't have the normal audio on HDMI???
    Any help???

  • Problems connecting 2009 macbook pro to samsung plasma tv(pn50b450b1d)

So I am using a macbook pro running osx 10.6.8 and I am having trouble connecting it to my tv. I have tested the cord on other tvs and it works fine. but when I connect to my tv my mbp screen flashes blue once then goes back to the desktop. If I am already plugged in to my tv and change to the source I am plugged into the mbp screen will flash blue twice before going back to the desktop. The tv screen has a moving box that says "no signal". When I am in the "displays" section on my mbp I dont have a "arrangement" tab and when try clicking "gather windows" or "detect displays" nothing changes. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • When will the 2009 Samsung plasmas be available?

I was ready to buy a 2008 model PN50A650 but haven't been able to find one locally since making the decision. Now that I have read about the new models I think I want to wait for them. How long will I have to wait?

The salesman I had been dealing with at S**rs called me yesterday and told me the PN50B850 that I want is now in their register but not available to order yet but he is going to call me again when they are. Looks like now it will be a race to see who gets my money, Best Buy or S**rs, whoever can get the TV to me first. Both have their advantages. Since I am a S**rs empolyee, I would get 10% off their price (and I would like to support my employer). But I am also a Best Buy reward zone member and have some reward certificates plus a gift card to spend so it would probably work out about the same final price either way. So it just depends who can get them first because I am very impatient with purchases like this once I know what I want.

  • Samsung 51 inch Plasma Tv

Good Afternoon, I just bought this tv 2 months ago and I am noticing around the letters on the cable its like shadowing around the letters? how can I fix this I attached a pic on what it looks like

Although I can't see the picture you attempted to post, what you described sounds like image retention.  Try turning down the contrast and brightness to see if this continues.  I had a Samsung plasma with contrast set at about 90 and brightness somewhere in the 60s and started having image retention problems after about 10 months with it getting progressively worse.  Others in this forum felt these settings were too high especially since I watched a lot of ESPN with the logos and tickers at the bottom.  I no longer have this TV though.  Keep in mind that images left on the screen for long periods of time can still cause image retention and possibly even burn-in for which there is no "cure".  Some owners never have problems, others aren't so lucky.  So be careful about still images on the screen for prolonged periods of time.

  • Help needed to hook a MacBook to a Samsung TV?

    Howdy,
I hooked my Samsung Plasma 850/860 TV to my Macbook with a new LOGiiX HDMI Cable ll (with audio support) to run iMovies on the TV to view my photographs. I get the blue Mac galaxy but cannot get anything else on the TV screen. I am plugged into the HDMI In 2 plug in on the TV.
At one point the cursor left the Mac and appeared on the screen and I could move it around but no programs appeared or popped up from the bottom of the screen.  I tried removing the HDMI cable and plugging back in which caused the screen to go gray and buzz, then switch back to the blue galaxy screen, then back to the gray screen alternating every 5 seconds or so.
Also I see from some of the discussion threads that some folks have had to hook up an additional audio cable.  If I am reading the packaging on the HDMI cable right, I am guessing that I only need the cable I have?
Does anyone have any ideas? I am a novice at this.
    Thanks,
    Chris

OK. Like markwmsn says, it is in fact working, as an external monitor in Extended Desktop mode, and you know it's working because you can see the Mac desktop. The reason you can't see anything else is because you simply haven't dragged anything to the TV screen yet. (If it wasn't working, you would see nothing, just a black screen. But you are seeing something.)

Old Mac laptops needed an additional audio cable. New Mac laptops support the latest HDMI spec and do not need an audio cable, they can carry everything in the HDMI cable if the cable is also up to date. Unfortunately I don't remember what the dividing line is in terms of versions, but if you bought the MacBook in the last couple years it will probably be new enough.

  • How to get MacBook Pro to recognize full 1366x768 resolution of Plasma?

When I hook up my MacBook Pro via DVI to my 1366 x 768 pixel Samsung plasma screen, the computer recognizes it as a Samsung PDP at 1024x768. The resulting image is stretched to fit the full 1366 horizontal pixels and thus ruins the aspect ratio. I know that I can switch the display mode on the Samsung to display 4x3 with black bars on the side, but what I really want is for the computer to take advantage of the full 1366x768. How do I do that?

Check your documentation. Most Samsung 1366x768 monitors do not support the full native resolution in DVI mode unless using a specific card to drive them made by PixelPerfect Digital.
I'm not entirely sure why that may be, but it does figure prominently in the product information on the Samsung product site.
