Considering this tv for our home. Unit will be in somewhat bright room. Is this the appropriate unit or should we consider others? Also want to know if this tv displays standard def channels well. Read that std def was blurry. Finally, opinion on 120 vs 240.

This TV is a good set. I don't think you should be selecting an HDTV based on it's standard-def performance. If you watch a lot of standard-def TV, then you may want to at least consider plasma.

Samsung 24-inch display auto-dimming problem

Right out of the box 3 or 4 months ago, my Samsung 24 inch 2443 BW dims uncontrollably whenever I have a window open that has mostly black or other dark-colored background - say about 60% black; I can actually watch the whole screen and desktop - not just the window - brighten or darken in response to manipulating the images and/or background color in the window. This is on a G5 1.8GHz dual with a GeForce FX 5200, running 10.4.11. It doesn't depend on the ambient light. The System Prefs doesn't offer any way to control auto-dimming. I'm thinking it could be a driver problem, maybe related to the fact that I am still using 10.4.11.
Has anyone had a similar problem and found a fix or workaround? Thanks.

Problem solved! This morning (yes, I should've done this 6 months ago, soon after I bought the unit). As a prelude to returning the unit to Samsung, I finally took the 2443 BW back to my local Apple (specialist) dealer (not an Apple Store. They're independent and don't usually "do PCs", although they can if required). Of course I made sure I had some images that were guaranteed to demonstrate the problem. Their "service genius" watched the behavior for less than a minute and promptly fixed it. (Kudos! )
All that was needed was to "turn off" the "Dynamic Contrast" option from the Samsung's menu (MENU > Picture > MagicBright > Dynanamic Contrast), by selecting one of the other (static) options instead - I preferred the "Sport" option.
When I got it reconnected at home, I adjusted the contrast and brightness settings on the Samsung's Menu to suit me. I am also using the (Apple > System Preferences > Displays > Color > Adobe RGB (1998) Display profile instead of the one labeled "SyncMaster"). The SyncMaster display profile makes the screen look very washed-out.
This dialogue has definitely helped, by helping to pinpoint the monitor itself as the most likely source of the problem.

Macbook to Samsung 32 inch 720p

Hello. I have a Macbook and a Samsung 32 inch 720p TV. I have recently moved it from one room to another and I suppose that because it was moved it did not keep the same resolution settings as before. Where it used to allow me a 1344x756 (interlaced) display it now no longer does. I was perplexed because my TV is not 720i so I guess I shouldn't have had an interlaced option but I did and it was perfect. I had to got to the number of recent items under the display in the menu bar to find that now i no longer have it. I have tried looking in the number of recent items even set it to ten but still no such option. My question is two part. First why did it change and second how can i get it back? Looked every where. Hopefully someone here can help! Im desperate for a solution. Thank you!

Hey, I think I can help sort of... I just bought a brand new Macbook Pro 13inch last week. I bought an display port to HDMI to connect to my tv and a mini dvi from my computer to the HDMI cable. I would never be able to find the resolutions I wanted. I would always be stuck with the 13inch resolution just blown up on my large 32inch SAMSUNG 720i or pi idk. This looked very odd and more or less didn't allow me to get the resolution I wanted to use my large 32inch like the apple 30inch displays...you get what I'm saying. Well I dl this program called insomnix and had it running. Then I put my computer to sleep manual and it bypass Insominx I think. Then in the morning I turned on my Samsung and was watching TV, I decided to flip on the laptop so I moved my bluetooth mouse and woke my computer up from sleeping. This allowed my tv to pick up the laptop"THE HWOLE TIME THIS IS GOING ON MY COMPUTER IS CLOSED THE SCREEN IS NOT ON AND ALLOWS THE SAMSUNG TO BYPASS THE LIMITATIONS ON SCREEN RESOLUTION I GET STUCK WITH WHEN MY LAPTOP SCREEN TURNS ON FORCING MY SAMSUNG TO ACCOMMODATE". Samsung 40 inch tv

I am considering buying a Samsung 40 inch mainly because it has 2 rf connectors. Can I use 1 for cable or dish and the other to hook up a indoor hd antenna

Most Samsungs have one coaxial input. However, if you will be using a cable/satelite box, then you would either use the HDMI or Component (red, green, blue) input. So your antenna will screw into the coaxial (RF) and your box will use a separate input completely. All you will have to do is selectm which source you wish to view.

Can I use the iPad 1 or iPhone 4 with a Samsung 8000 Series HDTV?

I am trying to connect my iPad to a HDMI input on my Samsung Series 8000 HD LED TV without success. Can this only be done with an iPad 2? I am using an Apple dongle to link to the HDMI cable which seems to work fine at Radio Shack. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You are perfectly fine using an over rated good quality charger like the genuine iPad charger. It will not charge your phone faster than the 1A iPhone charger though. This is because the phone will only ever draw up to 1A from any charger, no more. It will be faster than trying to charge from a computer USB port which is limited to 0.5A.
Beware of cheap Chinese knockoff chargers. These are poorly regulated, i.e. they may put out more than 5V DC or be electrically noisy with large voltage spikes. They also generally have very poor safety design and pose an electrocution and fire risk.

Mac mini: Samsung 27 inch series 3 monitor problem.

Connecting HDMI(mini) to HDMI(Monitor) leads to poor text resolution (blurry difficult to read). Monitor only has HDMI or VGA. Will mindisplay to vga adaptor work and give a clear picture?
Have tried PC to moitor through VGA and gives clear perfect picture.
Answer would be most grateful as otherwise mac is much better than PC in all other aspects and would not wish to go back to PC

OK. So I have now tried LG 27 Inch E2742 Monitor as follows:
1) Mini display to DVI-D : Picture good with decent text resolution
2) HDMI-HDMI: Picture poor with poor colour and text resolution. This is not a calibration issue.
The samsung monitor 27 inch series 3 also has poor picture and colour and text resolution with HDMI-HDMI. Again this is not a calibration issue. It does not have a DVI-D input to test the minidisplay port.
So it seems the HDMI port is not working properly but the minidisplay one is ok as I suspected.
From reading the other threads it seems this is a common problem including those people that have taken their minis back for an exchange and experienced same problem.
Is there likely to be a software update to resolve this?

Connecting Samsung 50 inch plasma 5054

I connected my new Core 2 Duo Mac Mini to my Samsung 5054 50 inch plasma. However, if I check the overscan checkbox in the system preferences, the screen is clipped at the edges and I can't see the outside extremeties. If I uncheck the the overscan checkbox, the display does not occupy the whole screen. Is there a way to set up the display so that they screen image fits evenly on the screen?

Very common problem. Some people have success using programs like DisplayConfigX or SwitchRes X to alter the format and timing to make the Mac screen fit the TV. But it is a very hit or miss process. And it may not even work.
Another possibility is that the display itself may have size and centering controls for the video image. Sometimes they are accessed through special service menus that are not published in the user guide. If that's the case, you need to find these on the internet using a search. Good luck.

Gradient banding in Samsung 20 inch LCD

Now idk where to begin, ok here's the best info i can give
I just assembled a new pc for graphic work/budget gaming 2 days ago:
intel core i3 530 mhz
2 gb ddr3 ram 1333 mhz

Now when i opened an old psd which contained some brushing and gradients, i could see bands in the gradients, even the wallpaper i put had bands on it. I even noticed that everything on my lcd looks hellish sharp, and when i force my head really close, i can see small square pixels all over the l cd. Is it due to the analogue output(VGA)?, should i switch to DVI?
I use 1600x900 res (native) at 32 bit
Then to test whether all gradients look the same, i opened a new ps document and made a black to white gradient, but it was smooth, there were no bands in there. But when i made a simple white box, applied full gaussian blur, and zoomed in around 2000% i could see the gradual bands again though not as bad as in the colored psd. It seems the problem only happens when i give a glow, or blurs. Then i played Splinter Cell Conviction (everything Maxed out) and again i could see gradient bands forming up in dark places, like when i die and a small cutscene is played, i could see gradient bands on the 4 corners. What could be the problem, is it the card? the lcd? i am new to lcd monitors so i dont know how to calibrate or whatever.
Please check if anyone else can see the bands on their lcd?

Regarding calibrating your display, it's not strictly necessary, but you did mention "oversaturation" in a post above. It's certainly your call whether you want to make your color-managed applications put out calibrated color.
Re switching to DVI, that's falling out of favor... How are you currently cabled to your monitor? HDMI? VGA? You've mentioned both. DVI would CERTAINLY be better than VGA.
This "Coarse effect" you speak of... Are you talking about jaggy fonts, or what? If so, do you have Font Smoothing enabled?
When I first switched from CRTs to LCDs (in 2004) I marveled that most graphics created by people using CRTs were actually butt ugly, simply because they could not see the actual image content very clearly and tended to overlook things and overcompensate for their own monitors' shortcomings.
On a good LCD using a good interface (DVI or better) you can see every pixel as a discreet element. That's a given.
After my switch from CRT to LCD I had to reset my perceptions - I had thoughts just like yours! After a while you start to realize that what may look oversharp and harsh to you may even still be too subtle for CRT users. For some time there's been a mix of CRTs and LCDs in the world, though honestly lately I've started to ignore the former as they are truly a dying breed (just try to buy a new CRT monitor nowadays). It is not wrong to concentrate solely on making graphics look good on ultra sharp LCD monitors. Don't be too hard on yourself for what you've produced in the past, when you couldn't "see clearly" yet.
That said, I should note that there are some LCDs that are not sharp at all. From time to time people post on this forum that they have trouble seeing the Photoshop UI elements at their fixed small size, and as you're no doubt aware now with your monitor there's really no problem seeing them on a very sharp display.
You could try taking a macro photo of what you're seeing on your display that you don't like. Other than that it's very difficult to communicate about such issues on a forum.

Prices change on Sundays always. Sometimes there is 3 day sales, etc.

Samsung 42-inch Plasma TV just died

My 42-inch HP-T4254 started turning on and off by itself last Saturday and as of Sunday wouldn't stay on at all. I had a certified Samsung repairman check out the TV early this week and for $99, he told me that it would cost $650 to replace the power supply and motherboard. I've had this TV for just over 2 years so it was out of warranty. This is coming at a pretty bad time to have to buy a new TV, which seems like the only option when the repair cost is 75% of the replacement cost. Obviously, I'm not very pleased with both Best Buy and Samsung at the moment. Is there anything that Best Buy can do to help me?

it really sad that everyone of you has the same solution of paying more money for extended protection. When you spend thousands of dollars on a tv, why should you have to pay more money for protection on a tv. The tv should last for longer then 2 years. IT should last at least bare min 8 years. I've have a tube tv that i bought 10 years ago and it works fine to this day. I have video game equipment for example a sega nomad and a ps2 that still work just as good as new "old technology". I have an xbox360 that ive had to have replaced 4 times in 2 years because i would get a red ring of death "hardware failure". their is no excuse for that. the xbox 360 has a terriable defect rate/product failure rate. The bottom line is the manufacture needs to build quality products that will last and they are not doing that. They are not building the same quality products they used to. They rush products to market without making sure they are going to be durable, dependable, live up to Tonsumer expectations, ect.... They are getting away with this! They are conditioning you guys to think hey its the way its supposed to be. They are building crappy products and selling them to you and charging even more for a product to protect plan. Dont get me wrong their are going to be defects in manufacturing but as many complaints as ive seen and studied in school and seen in the business world is unacceptable. Remind them that the cost of fixing your tv is worth a lot less them complaining to 100's of people about how bad their products are and losing those possible customers. It will work it has worked for me when i got screwed over a couple times with the service industry and HH gregg. How can i use Ipad's ITunes movies with Samsung 52 inch LED HDTV LN52B750U1F

Hi there and happy holidays! I have a LN52B750U1F 52 inch TV and for the first time ever want to play iTunes movies from my iPad on the TV. I tried reading the manual but it is all gibberish to me - I am a tech idiot. I plugged the USB into both of the USB ports on the TV from the iPad and the TV recognized the iPad and the pictures, but had No Contect for movies / video. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

You can not connect to the USB port on the TV. You need to purchase an AV cable or use a WiFi network and Apple TV to stream the content using AirPlay.

Samsung 52 inch 750

I have read several posts regarding late model TVs that lose Verizon's signal. My new TV is Samsung 52 in. 750. The problem is sometimes when I turn the tv on I get no signal or while watching tv the signal gets lost. Verizon wants me to use broadband cables. Or just do as I always do (again as per Verizon instructions) power down the tv and verizon's box from the wall and wait for a few minutes. Then power up the verizon box first and wait until the time resets and believe this or not turn back on the verizon box. The Verizon box turns itself off after you initially turned it back on. Then turn on the TV. Then I will get the signal.
Any suggestions?
Of course Samsung blames Verizon. Actual Samsung responded to me saying that several of their customers have this problem and that Direct TV works with the Samsung 52 in. TV with no reported problems.

Samsung 42 inch LCD HD Model #LN S4041D

I have a samsung lcd tv I bought December 2006. I have sound and NO picture. The samsung website and book tell you to check cables...blah, blah, blah. A 2 year old $1500 tv has an intermittent picture. Does anyone have this problem? Any ideas on what may be wrong? Geek Squad is $150 to even look at the tv. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

It's pretty difficult to go wrong in terms of picture quality these days. It's more about build quality and reliability. Main differentiators nowadays are brightness and contrast. Viewing angle used to be a differentiator but nearly everything is excellent nowadays. If it's bright enough for your viewing environment and you're happy with the black levels, and have confirmed it's viewable at all angles you might want to view it from, most of the rest is just marketing fluff (including any refresh rates higher than 60 Hz.)
I have a 46" AQUOS and am VERY happy with it. I paid about as much for it as that 60" unit costs now...
A used 46" 1080p Samsung for $500 is a pretty good deal too if it is in good condition. Don't buy it sight unseen - Test a few of the inputs and make sure there are no critical defects. (Cosmetic stuff like scratches to the bezel don't really matter, although they can be evidence of abuse - look for weirdness in the displayed picture with a good source such as a Blu-Ray player or at least high def digital cable via an HDMI input.)

SAMSUNG 50 INCH Red Patch in the center

I keep getting a red patch in the center of the screen. At first I thought it was a glitch but now its been a week and it seems more noticeable by the day. Does anyone have some info on this?
Plus If I purchased the tv at best buy without insurance how long is the factory warranty good for?

what is the model number of your TV? some of the 2010 samsungs had noticable flashes of red that I could not label for certain. It did affect a number of certain models from last year. if it is still under the one year warranty period i'd seriously consider getting it looked at by a tech sooner than later.

Samsung 51 inch Plasma Tv

Good Afternoon, I just bought this tv 2 months ago and I am noticing around the letters on the cable its like shadowing around the letters? how can I fix this I attached a pic on what it looks like

Although I can't see the picture you attempted to post, what you described sounds like image retention. Try turning down the contrast and brightness to see if this continues. I had a Samsung plasma with contrast set at about 90 and brightness somewhere in the 60s and started having image retention problems after about 10 months with it getting progressively worse. Others in this forum felt these settings were too high especially since I watched a lot of ESPN with the logos and tickers at the bottom. I no longer have this TV though. Keep in mind that images left on the screen for long periods of time can still cause image retention and possibly even burn-in for which there is no "cure". Some owners never have problems, others aren't so lucky. So be careful about still images on the screen for prolonged periods of time.
