Samsung 830 in Macbook pro 2011

hi there i have a macbook pro 2011. i'm still a student. right now i have 2 tb on this baby (2 1 tb samsung spinpoint in RAID 0) i get around 160 mbps read and write. it doesn't fill different. i noticed that i'm not a capacity hog. i just use 64 gb so my idea is to buy 2 128 gb samsung 830 ssd. it will cost me around 400. their read are 520, and write 320. so i'll be getting around 800-900 read and 500-600 write. do you guys think it's worth it. has anyone had this ssd in their macbook pro?

Just an update. I have the RAID working thanks to Mountain Lion. It has fixed the issue.
You can see a video of it with my notes in the description. I haven't been running it for long but it's very stable so far.

Hi tehrabyte. There are no Windows 8.1 drivers for your model on HP's driver site. This download has worked for a few people with audio issues when going to 8.1. Try uninstalling your existing audio drivers and reinstalling this driver. Please let me know if it works.

  • Macbook Pro (2011 Model) suddenly does not boot from SSD in main bay

I have been using Macbook pro 2011 and Samsung SSD (256GB) for about a year.
All of sudden, the computer will not from SSD from the main bay, but it will boot from the optical bay.
I have tried an Intel SSD 120gb which came with the computer, but it does not work either.
However, it will boot from the regualr hard drive from the main bay.
I have read somewhere that it could be due to the hard drive flex cable.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem?

It may very well be a problem with the SATA cable... for some reason (and I don't know why, but...) SSDs seem more prone in 'detecting' a faulty SATA cable than a standard hard drive. Where a hard drive will boot, an SSD will not.
I would advise purchasing a new SATA cable - from ifixit.com or powerbookmedic.com - and replacing the cable. That (normally) clears up the problem.

  • Samsung ssd for macbook pro

    Hello All,
I am trying to use the Samsung SSD 840 250 GB for my macbook pro, 2011 mid year model. Initially I used superduper for cloning, everything went smooth but then my SSD crashed, mac will not recognize it. I got a replacement disk, used superduper same thing happened, it crashed. Yesterday I used carbon copy cloner, everything worked fine, but then it crashed again. When I put the SSD to the USB, mac recognizes it, but when I install it in hard drive bin, it does not recognize it. Disk utility says that disk is verified and working fine.
I failed to understand why it is happening, I did not update the firmware or the TRIM.
    Any suggestion and help.
I called samsung and they did not had any answer.
    Thank you in advance!

Ah the basic. That's odd as I've never heard of any issues with one in a mac.
It could be that your Sata cable is bad, as many users have issues with them. They seem fairly weak and unless really careful when installing they can get damaged.  This may be worth replacing for the relatively low cost to rule out.
The samsung drives (840 and pro) are proven to work reliably in macs, mine is also a 2011 model and I have no issues.
The steps you could take are as follows.
Clean install on the SSD. As you have a clone of your original I would try this first. Just to rule out and issues with th cloned install.
If still the same I would replace the Sata cable, taking great care when replacing it.
I would say check the firmware but if you bought it  anytime in the second half do this year it will be up to date. But disk utility will tell you what version it is under the info tab and you can check against their website.
I advise to run Trim, but not running it wouldn't cause these issues.

  • Can i connect my cintiq 12wx to my Macbook pro 2011 through the thunderbolt using the mini display port to vga adaptor?

I just bought my cintiq 12wx and was wonderding if i can connect it to my macbook pro 2011 through the thurderbolt using a mini displayport to vga adaptor? Please help!

Yes, it should work with a mini-displayport to VGA adapter.  Since a 12wx also can take DVI you could use a mini-displayport to DVI adapter instead.  Why go analog when you can keep it in digital!
I guess the usb is for the pen.

  • What cable do I need to buy to connect my Macbook Pro (2011) to a VGA screen? I tried the "Mini DisplayPort to VGA", but apparently it doesnt fit the 2011 Pro version...

    As the topic says,
What cable do I need to buy to connect my Macbook Pro (2011) to a VGA screen? I tried the "Mini DisplayPort to VGA", but apparently it doesnt fit the 2011 Pro version...
    Help me out please.

    Yes ... minidisplay
But what I do not like in that picture (my personal view, others may think differently), is that there is much plastic around the connectors where the cable must fit.  You may ot may not be able to get the cable to *fully seat* with the adapter.
Other adapters (http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0334087, yes I know this is a DVI) hve no plastic barriers to connections.

  • Hello. I have a macbook pro 2011 that originally came with os lion (on the computer not a disk). What I did was I downloaded Os Mountain lion. There was nothing wrong with it but I just feel the battery life is too short. So what I did was I tried to do s

    Hello
I have a macbook pro 2011 13" that came with OS Lion (integrated not on a disk). I recently bought OS Mountain Lion of the app store and it is working fine. However I was a bit dissapointed in the battery so I decided to try and downgrade and completely failed, I froze the computer and when I restarted it it did not work. I went into recovery system and erased my disk and all that and went to re-download my OS. I was expecting to get the option to re-download Lion but instead I could only re-download Mountain Lion.
My question is since my computer originally came with Lion can I reset my computer so I get OS Lion back instead of OS Mountain Lion?
Thanks for any help. Any answer will be appreciated even if it is saying it is not possible.

    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
        1.    Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
        2.    After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
        3.    Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
        4.    Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Macbook Pro 2011 charging behaving weird.  Charges and stops repeatedly and takes very long.  Help?

So a few weeks ago my MacBook Pro 2011 started having charging problems.  I would use it normally.  Then plug it in to charge anywhere between 5-20 percent like I've been doing for the past year that I've had it (since August 2011).  Anyway, what happens now is that it charges but extremely slowly - at least 4 hours to fully charge as opposed to the 1 1/2 to 2 hours that it used to take.  Also, it seems to be draining a lot quicker than it used to while only browsing the internet.  Furthermore, while charging, the battery meter goes from the percent its charged to to "not charging" back and forth.  What's going on?  Is there a problem with my battery, my computer, or the magsafe charger?  [please refer to the pictures below to get a better understanding of my problem - these pictures were taken over a 2 hour time period - a time period that usually is enough to charge my computer] - if you'll notice, in the first two pictures, the percent barely went up by 10 in a half hour period:

  • How can I setup my thunderbold display to work as my primary display? I would like to have my macbook pro 2011 as my second display. thanks

If your Mac has got Mini DisplayPort, purchase a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable. You won't have to change any setting, and image will show on your TV after connecting it to your MacBook Pro. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

  • Macbook Pro 2011 running very slowly after upgrading to Mavericks

I am in deep trouble with my wife so any help would be gratefully accepted.
Shortly after Mavericks became available I upgraded my wife's Macbook Pro 2011 to use the new OS version. Ever since then, the Macbook has been running noticeably slowly. In particular, Mail is almost unusuable taking minutes to open and showing long delays while moving around messages, folders, etc. Excel and Word are also much slower, Safari is slow, in fact just about everything is grinding.
Any ideas on what can I can do to improve things and apease my unhappy wife would be much appreciated.
I have attached the Etrecheck output FYI

  • How to reformat a Macbook pro 2011 hard drive?

    Hello,
How do you reformat a MacBook Pro (OS X 10.7.3) 2011s Hard drive? I already backed up all the files I wanted to save. But since I have the new Macbook pro 2011 (only a few months since I got it) it didn't come with an installation disc, but instead already came with all the applications. I'm wondering how to reformat the hard drive so it wipes out everything and I can start fresh and what would happen to all the applications?

Well Lion has a Lion Recovery Partition on the drive you can access by holding command r and booting, there you can erase the Lion OS X partition completely (all files and programs) and reinstall Lion or simply reinstall Lion if there is a issue with it (no programs or files are touched in this second procedure)
Lion is downloaded from apple's servers, you need AppleID and a fast reliable internet connection with no bandwidth caps limiting you.
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
If you want to replace the drive, there is software called Carbon Copy Cloner than can clone both the Lion OS X Partition and the Lion Recovery Partition to a external drive intact (excpet what's in the Trash, no Filevualt, no bootcamp, use free Winclone for that)
Hold the option key and you can boot from the external drive and format and clone everything to the new internal drive. TimeMachine of 10.7.2 and later can be booted from it's Lion Recovery Parttion as well just to restore only, cloning is better process because it gives full access to everything like before on the internal drive.
    http://www.bombich.com/index.html
Some newer Mac's have Lion Internet recovery built in where the firmware will install the Lion Recovery/OS back onto a completely blank/new hard drive.

How do I hook up another monitor, besides a mac display,  to my macbook pro (2011)?

Dual Link DVI allows for seriously high resolution monitors (up to 2560 by 1600 like the Apple 30inch LED Display - Not manufactured anymore), I believe HDMI has a cap of traditional 1080p (1920*1080).
Edit: according to the HDMI Wiki Article it supports resolutions MUCH higher than 1080p, it's a matter of finding a Computer Monitor that supports higher than that (as I believe most Televisions only support up FULL HD 1080p)
