Samsung Blu-Ray player, Airport Extreme network, and streaming Netflix

I am very frustrated. Can you help? My husband just purchased a Samsung Blu-Ray BD-P3600 player and TV. I have read all of the forums on trying to connect this to an Airport Extreme network. After several days of trying different options, I still can not get the Blu-Ray player to connect to my network and be able to stream Netflix. The only way that I have gotten close is through the wireless connection devise and putting in the IP address etc. When doing a network test, if checks the MAC Address and the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway, DNS Server. It then pauses for a long time and tells me that the Gateway Ping won't work. It says, "Your network cannot operate properly." I have not had any trouble connecting any computers or printers to the network. Why can I not get this to work? Please tell me what I am doing wrong. I know just enough to be dangerous. Thank you!

Hi - I found this on CNET but not a techie so not sure if this will work - I have Airport Extreme & just bought 2 Samsung Blu-Ray BD-P3600 players to use w/NetFlix and have called Samsung tech support 3 times w/no luck - the last time the technician said that Apple/Samsung WIFI not compatible - I have a 13 character pswd so that my roommate who has a PC can connect - we don't have any problems with any other connections to Airport Extreme -

found this about setting up a psp with airport should help:
"Apple does not mandate that your WEP password is the correct length. In the real world of WEP (non Apple devices) they actually require that your WEP key is a specified length dependent on the bit level of encryption. If you are using HEX or ASCII encoding these passwords can get as high as 26 to 40 characters long. Yea, thats a long pass code! Your Mac sitting in your house doesn't care about all that mumbo jumbo. You can put any old password in the AirPort Admin utility and it will take it.
I learned over at Gaming-Age that I could get away with a 13 character WEP Key. You should, however, stick with 128 bit WEP as this is better protection, and works well with the PSP (I run my AirPort Express in 802.11b/g Compatible Mode). Once you set your WEP key and update your AirPort you can setup your PSP. Now just setup your PSP for Wi-Fi Infrastructure mode"
and this:
The trick is that to use the hexadecimal key with an Apple AirPort Card, you must enter a dollar-sign before the hex number, like

  • Connecting Samsung Blue Ray Player to wireless network

I have  a Linksys network with two wireless desktops, a laptop and a ROKU player connected to a WRT54G router. I was told to purchase a WAP54G Access Point to connect my Samsung  Player to the internet.  I setup the software on the WAP54G. When connecting the WAP54G to the Samsung player it could not connect to the internet. I also noticed that the laptop would loose it's connection to the internet when the WAP54G was on?  As soon as I disconnected the WAP54G the laptop connection returned to normal.  Since I am new at this any advice is greatly appreciated.
    Solved!

With regard to initial configuration of the WAP54G read this.
As for the rest of the configuration it depends on how you are connecting the WAP54G to the player. Read my comments above.

  • Anyone connected a Samsung BD-C6500 blu ray to Airport Extreme?

    Hi all
I have reached the end of my rope trying to this to work.
I have gotten the blu ray to see the network, and get to gateway ping - but then nothing.
I read that the apple extreme password is not quite up to snuff so I increased the length of the password - and it got further but no connection to internet.
So I tried it with no security and that does not work at all.
So - any ideas to get these two to get along?
    thank you
    Sean

I am on my second Samsung BD-C6500 and still not successful or happy. Especially with the password entering process you describe. How ancient is Samsung's interface? Replacing the entered letter with a * immediately after entry is maddening enough. But when entering numbers, the actual number never does show on-screen. Samsung customer service is a joke. The "techs" are not knowledgeable, don't speak English well or clearly and don't seem to give a crap whether or not the problem get resolved. Even getting "moved up" to second-level tech support was no better. Plus in the two weeks I've owned the two units I've had to download three software updates (now using 1013.4)--when I could get connected, that is!!! I was hopeful that one of these updates would fix the connection problem but that apparently was wishful thinking.
My first Samsunge would not retain my password--and that was after a dozen or more attempts to connect wirelessly with my Airport Extreme over a five-day period. So I took it back to Best Buy. The second unit is not much better. I can connected successfully, watch a movie on Netflix then turn everything off. Next day, when I try to connect, it says I don't have an internet connection.
Apple tech support suggested I change the Airport options on RADIO MODE from "Automatic" to "802.11 a/n - 802.11. b/g". That temporarily solved the problem but still does not ensure the Blu-Ray player will connect the next time I want internet access. It still seems to be hit or miss.
When this connection works, it's a joy. Especially when using Netflix to watch movies instantly. But my wife is slowly losing her patience with my frustrations and is willing to pay Comcast $6 or so to watch one of their movies instead. Their connection may be simpler but the search process is from an earlier decade!
I would appreciate any other suggestions you have. Thanks!

  • Samsung blue ray player

I just bought a new blue ray player but I have an old analog tv I want to watch netflix on my tv Can I do this?

    Jimmienomam wrote:
Umm there are plenty Samsung blu ray players that have composite and component outputs. Both of which are analog.
Also if they only have RF then they can use an RF converter which is dead cheap at certain places.
Plenty? Can you grace us with a model number since you are in the know? Not that it really matters since the OP has already made his purchase. A part number from him would also be good. The top of the line model does have analog output but that is audio only for 7.1.
As far as HDMI to RF, I haven't heard of that so can you provide a part number for that too?
But why do this? Spend more for the player, more for the media only to downcovert the content? Do you think the quality of the movie will be better than from a regular DVD player?
The only reason I would consider that is if I was about to buy a digital TV and wanted the media I buy now to be the best in the near future.
And it doesn't appear that BB caries the mysterious players you mention and certainly don't carry the fabled HDMI to RF modulator. So, if he has to return the player to go and buy something else and also buy a modulator then how is that better than just getting a DVD player.
It's good that you are aware of a general solution but to help the OP out can you share some part numbers?

  • Keyboard for Samsung Blu Ray Player

I purchased a Samsung Blu Ray Player (Model: BD-F5900) from Best Buy as a Christmas gift for my daughter and I also purchased Logitech MK270 Wireless Keyboard/Mouse to use with it for accessing the internet, but when she tried to use it, it asked her to enter the operating system of the Blu Ray Player.  Can anyone tell me if you can use this keyboard with the player and if yes, how?
If not, would someone please recommend a compatible keyboard?

  • My samsung Blu Ray player won't work on my LG tv

For some reason when I hook up my samsung Blu Ray player to my LG tv with the HDMI cable it will not work. I've tried it on other brands and it works fine. Any ideas?

    Hello mdeis909,
If your Samsung Blu-Ray Player works with other brands and TVs, it could mean that the HDMI port on your LG television is no longer working. If your LG TV has another HDMI port readily available, I'd suggest trying it to see if the issue is limited to one specific port.
    I hope this helps,

I just got the Sony BRAVIA 60" Class / 1080p / 120Hz / LED-LCD HDTV and I have a Yamaha RX-V1800.  I want to buy and hook up a Blu-ray player to both.  What the best way to do this?  Should I use the optical audio to connect the Blu-ray to the receive and the HDMI to connect to the TV?  I really want to be able to use HDMI for the audio but then I'm left with only component video for the TV.  I can't filter the sound through the TV, this does not work.  Does optical produce good audio?

Okay so I did try to run everything through the Yamaha receiver and the refresh rate is just to slow.  I put in the DVD Salt and as soon as there was a chase scene I got lot of blurring.  Since I'm not going to get a new receiver any time soon is a HDMI to the TV and an optical to the receiver the best option?
You have no idea what you are doing which is why your results are not pleasing. Simply connect the equipment with HDMI cables as instructed and use only Blu-Ray discs as they are full-resolution sources. Your Blu-Ray player applies upscaling and processing to your DVD which is why it looks like crap and your receiver would do the same depending on the settings. You also need to check the settings on your player and HDTV to get them both aligned for the best picture quality.
Well I did use HDMI cables, and I also checked all of the setting on both the receiver and the TV.  I did not use a Blu-Ray or player as I have not bought one yet.  So are you saying the only way to not get a blur when using this set up would be to only watch Blu-Rays??  That does not make much sense.  Also I would like to say I have some idea what I'm doing but obviously not as much as many people on this site, that's why I posted my question here.  Thanks though for pointing out the obvious, It was very helpful of you.

  • Airport extreme network and bizarre issue...

Thanks for any and all help but let's start with the setup...
Airport Extreme (dual band) is my main station connected to the modem and also to an imac (wired).
Two airport expresses both using the extend wireless network option
Exp. 1 is connected to the TV through ethernet
Exp. 2 extends wireless network. Used to extend wireless connection to the outside
Now here is my issue. Up until last week my main station was a first generation airport extreme n (fast ethernet).
I tried to add access to the bottom floor with this station and hook up an old pc (no wireless card) to it with ethernet. This works without a problem with an airport express but NOT with the bigger brother...
It will work for about fifty odd seconds (internet and everything), it even has a green light, then boom loses the connection for about 30 seconds (blinking orange). Then back to green... This over and over again. I reset it a couple of times, have even tried to change the firmware to no benefit. I thought maybe it had a reception issue and moved it next to the new main station. Same problem...
    Any ideas?
Years ago, I did try to setup a WDS and failed miserably and would like to skip the experience. Are they easier and is that the way to go? If yes, can a relay station (the exp. 1) still send data to the tv through the ethernet port?
Thanks for any and all help.

Here a small update.... I went through the assistant and it took me through a couple of steps and I think at the very end I read setting up WDS. I could be wrong but here a protocol from the affected station.

this means using names for everything in the TC that comply to windows network standards..

    No spaces
    Pure alphanumeric.

  • E3000 Bizarre Issue... WIRED Blu-Ray Player Causes WiFi To Be Disabled

I have had numerous issues with my E3000 since I got about two months ago and they have all been resolved with the exception of this new one that popped up today.
My Samsung Blu-ray player is connected firectly via ethernet cable to the router.  When it's on, I lose all conenctivity to the router with my wireless devices including three PC's, a PS3, two iPhones, one iPad, one Samsung Smart TV, one XBOX 360 and an Onkyo Receiver.  When I say that I lose connectivity, I don't mean that I lose access to the Internet.  My PC's see the network but cannot connect to it, the same goes for the Apple devices.  The moment I shut off the Samsung BD player it kicks right back on and works normally.  Until today, this never occurred.
I contacted Tech Support and they had never heard of this happening before.  They suggested that I change the ethernet cable which I did while the unit was on and it worked until I turned the BD player off and turned it back on again.  I also tried switching ports to no avail.  Alos all of the software is up to date on both the router and the BD player.
Does anyone have any ideas about this?  I'm going to call Tech Support back on this again but I thought I'd check here first to see if anyone else has had this issue.
    Thanks in advance.

    Well, try the following steps:
A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] Lower the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) from 1500 to 1400 or less (usually found on your router's main/ basic setup page)
4] Then go to the Wireless tab, keep network mode as mixed,
For Channel Settings of 2.4 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, 11..
For Channel Settings of 5 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 40 or 161...
B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the username field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.
