Have problem with the samsung captivate

I don't know if this would apply
here but I need some info on my cell. I have the captivate and it keeps shutting itself off no reason it just shuts off. I must turn this phone on 8 or 9 times a day if not more. Does anyone have any info on this problem?

Samsung Captivate - "places/check-in" on FaceBook

I've been trying to get "places/check-in" through FaceBook working on my Captivate, but so far no luck at all....
Any ideas?? I've tried re-booting (taking battery out), un-install and install again, GPS on or off, Wireless on or off....
Gone to FB on my computer and looked at settings, but no matter what I change, it still doesn't get things working on my Captivate.

What is the problem exactly? Does it not recognize you in the correct location? Check the Maps app, do the GPS/Location Services work there?

Download in the Android Market is not working Samsung Captivate

When trying to download in the market it says it is not found.

This problem appears to be related to the fairly recent Android Market app update and we continue to investigate the cause. If you go to Settings/Applications/Market and choose Uninstall you can uninstall the update and then you should be able to search for and install Firefox from the marketplace.

My 4 hours w/ AT&T Captivate..Be happy with your X!

I spent the afternoon today using a brand new Samsung Captivate Galaxy S phone, on AT&T in the Boston Area. My friend from work recieved the phone today, charged it and asked me to use it for the day and "make it like mine". My impressions are based on the ATT verison of the Galaxy S but I've read they are all basically the same.
The very first thing I noticed on the Captivate is how light-weight and flimsy the phone felt in my hand. I do not know what material the Captivate is made of but it surely would not withstand even a short fall on a hard surface. Also, the physical buttons (few as there are) felt too flush to the device and had very little movement. Immediately I missed the weight and sturdyness of my X.
Also, the phone is a bit thinner than the X but the overall size of the phone is about a quarter inch shorter and roughly the same width as the X so to people who think the X is too big won't find much relief using the Captivate. Unless you find weight of the DX too heavy.
Initially setting up the Captivate was like any other Android Phone but once that was done I realized the Captivate and probably the Galaxy S series in general is not a flagship device like the DX!
Even though the Captivate comes w/ Android 2.1 it felt foreign a bit to me and un-intuitive and clunky. I've read many posts trashing Motoblur and Praising Touchwiz UI and I will never complain about Motoblur again after using Touchwiz, although I still prefer HTC Sense to both.
Simple stuff we take forgranted with the DX are complicated or unavailable on the Captivate. For instance, My friend wanted a song as a ring tone. On the X, simple. Longpress the song and choose "use as ringtone" Long pressing on the captivate had no option for that. In fact, in the handful of hours I had the phone I still didnt set the song as a ringtone.
Setting up accounts was similar but you could not set Yahoo as a phone account like you do on the X. I attempted to set up his Yahoo mail account using the "email" settings and entering all the POP3 info but nothing could get it to connect to his mail. I ended up installing the Yahoo app for him instead.
The App drawer---Looks pretty on the Captivate but is set up as individual screens that you swipe left or right to go to the next screen. Scrolling between those screens was laggy, choppy and slow. I could not fast scroll like you can in the Vertical App drawer on the X.
Browser force closed the first 5 times I tried to launch it, remember this is a brand new phone.
Phone dialer did not work until I did a cache wipe, remember this is a brand new phone.
No Skype built in , Download in market is hidden or missing.
No Flash on the camera
People who think that wifi on the X is flaky would cheer to have the X back after switching to Captivate. This phone lost Wifi @ work every 10 Min. and my X kept the connection solid.
There's been a lot of complaints about speaker/ringer volume on the X and I haven't seen much about it on the Captivate but I can say the ringer on my X at full volume is louder than the ringer on the captivate @ full volume. Music on the Captivate speaker sounded a little muffled, this could have been the quality of the MP3s he had on the phone though.
My point to all this is the grass is not always greener.
I have a lot more but I really don't feel like getting into it all right now. Mayb on a later post.

i spent about 2 hours at bestbuy trying out the fascinate right after i bought the x in hopes of seeing out the gate what i liked better because i knew if i waited til my 30days were over i would sorta be acustomed to my x and not like the newness of the samsung but i have to say other than sorta liking the buttons on the front more the x won out all around not sure why verizon pushed this phone like they did but the droid 2 and x are both superior phones and call quaility and volume as well as loud speaker volume is better than the samsung.....i do wish my x was louder but i cant say much after hearing the fascinate's humdrum speaker....i also had more bars on both motos in the same store than the samsung. but yeah i got that new phone itch too but once you play with it that goes away fast its like the droid x's little brother that wears a helmet on the bus

Does anyone have any suggestions to improve the performance to improve Firefox for andoid (more details).

I'm using it on a Samsung Captivate SGHi-897 with Jellybean 2.2 (I'm unable to upgrade the OS @this time). Firefox was recommended by a freind, however, so far I've been very disappointed with it, as, it is extremely slow and constanly crashes. I've tried all of the suggestions provided, but there is no improvememt. I realize it may be not all that compatible with this properly working device or OS. I have Samsung Galxaxy SGHi-727 Skyrocket with IC 4.1, however, I've been waiting for a part for it coming from Aisa, which seems to be taking forever, so in the meantime I'm.stuck with this. I was wondering if you may have any suggestions on how to speed it up and prevent it from crashing so much, other than what's on your help guide since those changes I've tried make no improvement in it's performance. I would very much prefer to use Firefox on this device, as well as, after I repair my other device for a number of other reasons, but if I'm unable to improve it, I'll just go back to what I was using. 3g problems with Iphone 4.

Guys,This has been frustrating me so bad lately I'm thinking about taking back My IP4 and getting the Samsung Captivate.When I go inside my house my 3g connection becomes terrible,One page might open every 5 minutes.It's very bad and I don't live in a brick house or anything like that.The thing is when I shut off 3g and use Edge the pages open up fine,Slower but they actually load with no problems whatsoever.My 3g connection in my area is awesome and When I had my iphone 3g it never had any of these problems and 3g connections was super fast.But I have to say when I first bought the IP4 it never had these problems while on 4.0.After I updated to 4.1 is when things started.Any ideas what to do.This is just ridiculous to have a super fast phone with a super slow network.Plus I forgot to mention I always have 4-5 bars in my area.

So tonight I successfully updated my iphone 3gs to ios4. Trying to be nice, I was going to update my dad's 3g after he went to sleep so he could wake up to the new update. no good deed goes unpunished.
So I plugged in his phone and it told me there was an update available, so I sat and waited while it downloaded. Once done, it was automatically starting the update. It first said it was backing up the iphone (which took forever). Then, to my surprise, it said it was restoring the iphone software and firmware. I was scared but then it said it was restoring the music and apps, so i figured it was restoring everything it had just taken so long to back up.
I waited and once it was done, the phone was updated with the new features but was back to it's factory settings. It had no contacts, no calendar events, no email was set up, no notes.
However, it did have the latest photos if I am remembering correctly.
So I frantically restored the phone to the latest back up, which I assumed would be from a couple of hours ago, but it turned out to be from January 17, 2010. I didn't sync the phone before starting the update because I didn't while updating my 3gs earlier, and all went well then.
So now the phone has lost anything that was added to it after January 17, 2010. Including the recent pictures that were still on the phone when it was restored to its factory settings earlier.
WHAT HAPPENED? CAN I FIX IT?
if the phone spent so long backing up before the update then why isn't there a back up file for it?
I am very desperate. my dad is a businessman who had a lot of important contacts and events stored in his phone. He wakes in 15 minutes at 5:00 am and I am just awaiting his anger when he finds a chunk of his data missing.
please help me.

Iphone 4 reception issue and it took me 7 days to solve it. Thanks apple!

As most of you know, iphone 4 bars drop as soon as you hold the phone on bottom left corner. I called apple tech support and this is what they suggested.
1. Tape the sim card. ( No it's not a joke. That's what they told me)
2. Don't hold the phone with left hand and avoid holding the bottom left.
I complained that if I have to do exactly what they said, I would risk myself from dropping the iphone 4. No one was able to help. I talked to supervisor. I emailed Steve jobs. So, I finally filed a complain to FCC. Poor AT&T was in the middle of it and I called them for my drop calls. They offered me something in credit. But, it still did not solve the issue.
After fighting with customer service for 7 days, I went to apple store and got a bumper case from apple. Now, I have no drop calls at all. I mean AT&T network is still terrible, but it is much better than what I had for past 7 days. Apple store manager was nice enough to offer me a discount on bumper.
I was going to buy white iphone, but now I am going to think about it. I will probably go for samsung captivate or new HTC android phone. I might get the phone that would not be as nice as iphone, but I will be able to hold it the way I like!
You guys have any issues with antenna? How did you solve it?

I have the antenna problem too. I called Apple as well and after talking to three different people, I was offered a bumper. Keep in mind that this was on Sunday. I don't believe they are doing that anymore.
I have a case on it right now, and it seems to be okay. Take the case off, and it drops calls consistently.
At first the Apple rep told me to put tape on it. Put tape on my new phone? Umm...no thanks. I was told to hold it differently. I was told I could buy a bumper. That's when I was offered a free one because the guy admitted to knowing that it was at least a temporary fix, and I noted that it shouldn't be my responsibility to purchase anything else. My phone should have been in working order to begin with.

Macbook Pro (Late 2011) Won't read game

My Macbook Pro (Late 2011) plays dvds (I used Family guy to test) but will not read the disk for Football Manager 2015 despite it being Mac compatible. THe disk itself runs on PC so isn't faulty. Any thoughts?

Point taken on the driver. The reason I'm hesitant to assume it's power related is because everything else works. Here is a short list of other devices I've used it for in the week or so I've owned this machine:
iPad (connected fine and charged iPad to full)
Seagate GoFlex (connects fine, but this device also uses wall power)
Samsung Spinpoint HDD (in an aluminum Rosewill enclosure, also uses wall power)
iPod Classic (fifth gen, 30GB), also charges
Samsung Captivate (Android phone), charges
I got this machine from the Apple store last week, when I swapped out my original purchase MBP due to a screen defect. I asked them to run a gamet of tests to ensure everything OK, and they complied (at least claimed to). I assume if I brought it back, with the drive, they would be able to test for a power issue, correct?

Whats the adobe flash player 10.1 app called on android phones?

I want to download this app in the android market, but it says I need adobe flash player 10.1 but when I look for it, it doesn't show. Does anyone know what its called? I know its in the market because a lot of people are using that app. Does anyone know what its called? Please. I have the Samsung Captivate. Should I just wait for Android2.2?

Basically Android supports flash player to view your resultant animation and scripts developed from flash. You need a flash player to view some flash based animations and scripts. You can download and install it on your phones.

IPhone speaker stopped working today. Not 1 year old yet.

IPAD 2 announced...still no flash player support?

I'm slightly confused how would a buritto project work on apple products if there is no flash player support?

So basically device apps would work, but not RIA flash websites then...
Maybe it's for the best...
I got a samsung captivate and flash web sites weren't the best in terms of experience, nor were html websites that used frames lol...

Iphone slow after updating to 4.0.2

The iOS4 does NOT work with the iPhone 3g, and so far, I have not been able to get AT&T or Apple to do anything about it. I bought my iPhone 3g on contract last year, and it worked just fine, until the iOS4 came out. Since I can't get satisfaction from either AT&T or Apple, I rolled back my software, until I can afford to go buy the Samsung Captivate without a contract. I am switching to Android, and going off contract, because neither AT&T nor Apple has done ANYTHING to satisfactorily address this situation! Cannot sent photos via messaging

I have the Droid Charge, with the latest update (EE4). I've done a factory reset, hard reset/battery pull and just about everything else to solve this issue.
Messages being sent via the messaging client (text) with photos get hung up and I get an error message that the message failed to send. On occasion, the recipient says that the photo gets through; largely though, it doesn't get sent.
Anything else I can try? I have tried third party (handcent) messaging apps but have the same error.

Spoke to someone in the network engineering department who thought the issue was with the phone. Just got the new phone, set it up, and still have the same issues.
To recap. Photo (MMS) messaging works 90% of the time in 4G. In 3G or less, the phone hangs on "Sending," I get a general failure to send message and then the phone never closes the connection and continues to attempt to send the photo, draining the battery. Maybe 20% of the time, I get a general failure message and it goes through anyhow. If I attempt to send another MMS, I get "too many unsent multimedia messages" failure error.
Battery pulls have no effect on the phone's attempt to send the photo message, even hours later. This is a new phone, stock everything - I haven't even added my personal apps yet to see if it would work.
This occurs when the recipient is Verizon (tried on two Blackberrys, on Fascinte and one HTC Thunderbolt), Sprint (tried on Blackberry), AT&T (iPhone, Samsung Captivate).
Someone please help.

IPhone vs other?

Okay I'm looking into buying the Samsung captiva over the iP4. I really need a phone cuz my 1st Generation iPhone is really in bad shape. I really wanted the white phone just to have something new or fresh since I had the black for the last 3 years. Now with this thing about "later in the year" I don't know how long it would be.
Can anyone tell me why I should choose the iPhone over the samsung? The samsung would be something new
Like the interface,amoled screen, etc.
Any advice would be welcome !

I played with my dad's Captivate for a week now and here are a few of my opinions. Just to let you know, I'm not very tech-savvy.
- I definitely prefer the Apple App store over the Android market. The Apple App store just has a lot more apps.
- As far as songs on iTunes, I was able to easily drag and drop the songs from iTunes to the Samsung Captivate drive.
- I prefer the retina display, it's smoother. The Super AMOLED is too saturated for me. I agree with John that you should see it in person.
- Some apps on the Captivate can only be used over cellular data network, not wi-fi. I don't know why, maybe I need to spend more time with the Captivate
- Setting up some emails (e.g. Yahoo!) is not very easy and sometimes does not work. I googled and some said it only works over cellular data network.
- The iphone is a lot easier to use straight out of the box. The android has many options that sometimes I have to change settings first before I can do a very simple task. I guess after everything is all set up to your specs, it's a lot easier to use.
- I have smaller hands and it's easier to hold the iPhone. I don't like it that the power button is on the side on the Captivate and it's the only button that you can press to unlock the phone (no home button to unlock)
I have been using the iPhone for about 3 years now and the familiarity is hard to disregard when you try to decide what phone to get. I guess that's why I got the iPhone 4. But the more I play with the Captivate, the more I see how limited the iOS4 is. My dad prefers the iphone because it's easier to use.
