Samsung CLP 510 and OS Tiger Classic

My Samsung CLP 510 usb printer just prints fine in OS Tiger with the driver provided by Samsung. However when i try a printout in classic, it does not work. The printer is connected via usb. The chooser option with the laserwriter 8 does not work. If i try to print there is the message, that the printer is not available. The desktop printer utility in classic does not find the CLP as an usb device.
So i tried the LPD option with the TCP adress from my mac and the printer queue name provided by OS Tiger. If i try to print there is the following error message: error -8873 printer is busy or switched off.
Powermac G5 dual 2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Thanks Greg,
finally I found out what is going wrong. The firewall in os x tiger should be configured with active printer sharing. The print monitor for classic should be deactivated.
The desktop printer utlility is not able to recognize some usb printers. So I decided to configure it as LPD Printer with the adress of my G5. The printer queue should be the exact name as in OS Tiger. So I created two desktop printers, one for the Samsung CLP, the other one for my HP Laserjet 3015. All print jobs are now transfered to the Cups OS X drivers. Works like a charm.

  • Samsung CLP-510 driver for the Classic enviroment?"

Is ther a way to print from the classic enviroment to a Samsung CLP-510. The current driver does not appear to support the classic enviroment.

    Hello 3rd,
First of all, welcome to the Apple discussions.
As you can see in my computer specimens that I'm using a CLP 510 myself.
By my knowledge this is not supported, the only thing you can try is a driver from Gimp Gimp driver
But I'm not sure if this is working.
Let me know if so ...

Iam looking for a driver for Samsung CLP-510 for osx 10.8 ?? Samsung dosnt offer one and it dosnt appear at this list? Has anybody some ideas?? Thanks!

Go to  Samsung, download driver version 10.6 and then open file in Finder. Before clicking file hold control key this will override the warning and then it will install the drivers. After this go to preferences then printers install printer and the drivers are loaded in. I used this for OS 10.8 and now 10.9

  • 10.5.2 - cannot print with Samsung CLP-510 connected via Airport

After 10.5.2 Leopard upgrade, the printer Samsung CLP-510 prints only if it's connected directly to my MacBook (or my PowerBook), not if it's connected via Airport (Extreme): the printers become soon busy and give the message "Device busy, please retry...", and after some time the printer print an error page with "timeout" error.
    No luck resetting the Airport.
    Any workaround, please?
    Thanks in advance
    Salvo

    These steps may help:
    1. Open System Preferences and click on the "Print & Fax" icon
    2. Click on the "+" button to add a printer
    3. Click on the "IP" button in the toolbar
    4. Choose "HP Jetdirect - Socket" from the "Protocol" option menu
    5. Enter the hostname or IP of the Airport base station in the "Address" field - typically 10.0.0.1 or your base station name with ".local" on the end
    6. Leave the "Queue" field blank
    7. Replace the auto-generated name with something meaningful to you in the "Name" field
    8. Choose "Select a driver to use" from the "Print Using" option menu, and then type in the model number for your printer to locate the corresponding printer driver
    9. Click "Add" to add the printer, then try printing
If you report back with your results, it would be appreciated.

  • Samsung CLP-315 and Airport Extreme, sporadically does not print

    Hi:
    I am using MacBook Pro, OS X 10.5.8, Dual-band Airport Extreme with v.7.4.2, and a Samsung CLP-315.
Previously I had Airport Express and had trouble printing. I fixed it with the workaround using HP Jetdirect with address 10.0.1.1:9101. I then upgraded to Airport Extreme and that fix did not work. I deleted the printer from Print & Fax and added again with Bonjour. Since, it has been printing sporadically. Sometimes, it simply does not print. I have tried to pin down what causes it, but I have only been able to consistently reproduce the error when trying to print from Graphic Converter. Other applications print sporadically.
I have tried to download the new drivers from Samsung, but that has not solved it. I have tried to recreate the workaround through HP Jetdirect, but I always get a "printer busy" error when printing (using both 9100 and 9101)
I also tried to run FixAirportPrinter and although the application sees the printer when launched, after running the application the same symptoms remain.
Any help on how to resolve this is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Rodrigo

This is to say that I have exactly the same problem with a Samsung CLP-310 unit. I have 2 Books as below.
My older powerbook has no problem printing to this printer. My newer Intel unit will not print.
If I open Airport utilities on the 10.4 Powerbook and select "Base Station options" I can see the Samsung printer under USB devices. If I repeat the process on my 10.5 Intel unit and double-click on the Airport, the properties page shows the Samsung CLP-310 but it I go to USB devices they are empty.
What gives? The SAME Airport only prints to a USB printer if it is sent from a Power PC Book?
The Samsung CLP-310 is connected directly to the USB Airport output.

  • Samsung CLP-315 and SmartPanel app

I'm trying to get my Samsung CLP-315 working under Mavericks.  The printer works fine, but the Smart Panel app just throws an icon on the menu bar, but it's greyed out.  Anyone find a solution for this?

Looks like I answered my own question.  The Smart Panel only works if you download the drivers from Samsung.  The Apple supplied drivers don't work with the Smart Panel app.  At least that's how I fixed my problem after messing with it for a few hours.

  • Samsung CLP-300

    Hi,
I bought a Samsung CLP-300 and I am not able to print correctly. All Text is moved to the right side, like this:
    LM = left margin
    RM = right margin
    T = Text
    it is like:
    LM                        RM
            TTTTTTTTTTTT
    but should be like:
    LM                        RM
         TTTTTTTTTTT
For some people does it work, how can I get it working??

The CLP-300 is the same printer as the Xerox 6110. Both printers don't work with Office 2004 or 2008 with OX 10.5.
This is s KNOWN PROBLEM since at least late November. Answers from Apple, Xerox, Samsung have been VAGUE to ZERO. Some Microsoft "MVP" keeps saying that bug fixes are in the works, but it's now been a few months and...nothing.
I'm still blown away that no one can give us a straight answer on this!!!

  • Ipod Classic 120gb to Samsung LCD TV and Home cinema

Any help or suggestions would help.
I have just bought a New Ipod Classic 120gb and connected it to my Samsung LCD TV and Home cinema systems. The Ipod connects fine but the order of the music on the tv is all mixed up. Is there anyway to sort out the order so it displays in album or even artist order?

Yes, I bought the dock so I could hook it up to my tv. Then I had to buy the cable, I didn't get the cable from Apple. at the time the cable was $50, I went to ebay & found the same cable for about $20. Just like you, I could not find an answer about why the dumb thing wouldn't work, so I just had do my own experiments. Good luck getting Apple to do anything. They don't seem to want to give anything away or replace merchandise.
    Take care!!

  • Crazy tiger, classic and 2906 scsi problem

    Sorry, long post to follow.
A list seems the best way to describe this problem
    1) I found an old scsi drive that had os 9.22 on it and wanted to run it in classic on os 10.4.11
    2) I installed the old adaptec 2906 card in a G4 Digital Audio connected the drive and booted into tiger.
    3) The harddrive was visible in the finder and under the "classic" preferences.
    4) I started classic off of the scsi drive and everything was fine. I opened a couple of programs and all was good.
    5) I rebooted for some reason (without stopping classic).
    6) Tiger would not reboot. Nothing I tried would boot the computer. I would get the grey bootup screen with the apple but the spinning wheel would not show up. I waited up to 30 minutes at one point for something to happen.
    7) I removed the drive (unplugged it from power and the bus) and still no boot.
    8) I removed the scsi card and still no boot.
    9) restarted from CD and repaired the drive.
    10) Yeah, Tiger boots up.
    11) I think all is fixed and reconnect everything.
    12) No boot again!!!
What could have happened after that first bootup? The drive seems to fire up as it did the first time (it is loud and hard to miss).
Could the scsi card be dead after the one reboot?
If I added an extension to the os 9 drive would that have an effect on Tiger booting (I find this unlikely but thought i would ask)?
One other thing and this may be Important. I also have an IDE controller card Acard AEC-62800M installed which seems to show up as a scsi card.
    Any Ideas would be great.

I also have an IDE controller card Acard AEC-62800M installed which seems to show up as a scsi card.
I've seen that with several PCI/IDE cards and would consider it normal.

  • Leopard and the Samsung CLP-300

I cannot print with manual duplex! its killing me i cant print out my school notes... i spent a few hours talking to samsung and they told me its an issue with leopard!? ... this is my first experience with a mac after being a pc user for my whole life... I used to sell these macs saying they were very awesome only to find myself in trouble.. =(
if someone has a solution for me. or knows some kind of work around this issue with my macbook pro and my samsung clp-300 so that i can select to print double sided [manual duplex] please let me know! email me at [email protected] please!

I have exactly the same problem on my new MacBook Pro using the CLP-600N - I have the latest model as of March 2008 - I can print from all programs except MS word 2008, which prints blank pages and the print preview shows nothing.
It took the apple store about an hour to figure out it was the printer driver but they didn't anything in their data base about the problem - this blog is the first time I have seen any data on this problem.
Has anyone actually corrected the problem? Obviously this is a pain in the butt and the Samsung printer is our office printer and it works for everyone else including a MacBook Pro that is about 6 months old - go figure that one out.

  • Tiger/Classic and USB problems

I have two instances where a USB device that worked in Panther/Classic will not work in Tiger/Classic.
One is StylusRIP from Epson that I use to print Postscript files with my Stylus 3000. Worked fine in Panther/Classic, since I upgraded to Tiger the printer is not recognized. The printer works in OSX using the non-Postscript driver, so I know that basic connectivty (cables, ports, etc.) is OK.
The other is a RoboLab USB infrared transmitter. Same scenario.
While troubleshooting the transmitter, I tried booting into OS9 (on my G4) and the connection was made. It worked fine. I tried the same thing with StylusRip, and it too worked fine, the printer was recognized. I can, as a workaround, output PS files or press-ready PDFs (since I won't be able to use any of my designs apps in Classic), reboot in 9 and print, but I'd rather find out how to fix the problem.
Can anyone tell me what could be different about the way Tiger handles USB that could affect the interoperability with devices/software that require Classic? I did find one post that recommended resetting the PRAM, so I will try that. Any other recommendations are welcome.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I am running 9.2.2. The only thing that changed was the update to Tiger. I have called ESPON, and they refer me to Adobe because they licensed the RIP from Adobe. I've not had any success with that yet. The last update of RIP does not support the Stylus 3000 printer, and I don't think it's native anyway. The set-up I was using was a "non-supported workaround", so I may just be out of luck. Which is a pain, because the printer still has some miles on it. I may try to see if I can use an older Mac running 9.2.2 as a print server.
Robolab has an OSX native update out, so we will get that.
What I found curious was that both pieces of software, or the USB connectivity required by both, was broken by Tiger.

  • Precious Little Discussion of Tiger Classic Crazyness on Tiger Forum

Classic under Tiger (on my computer) has always had very strange quirks which I have never resolved. Reinstalling Classic from Disc #2 of my original Tiger installation discs has not helped.
Example 1: Extensions in my System Folder have always shown incorrect icons, even after "Rebuilding the Classic Desktop." In fact, rebuilding the Desktop has never affected any of them. Most of the Extension icons are shown as ColorSync files, and even in "Get Info" they are identified as such, even though many have absolutely nothing to do with ColorSync.
Example 2: Installing an old app frequently results in newly installed extensions identified incorrectly. The 1993 video game "The Dig" installs extensions which Classic identifies as Microsoft Excel files, along with the corresponding icon. Again, rebuilding the Classic desktop does nothing.
Example 3: Sometimes an app will run normally, sometimes the same app will not. I was playing "The Dig" recently and it ran fine and saved correctly. But opening the saved game, or a new game, resulted in a display of my Finder DeskPicture with radically changed colors, on which was superimposed a small square in one corner of the screen which looked like a "ghost" of the correct game display. Restarting either Classic or the computer or both does not fix the problem; have tried many unsuccessful experiments with Extensions Manager.
Example 4: Sometimes if a multiple CD game is being run, the first time the disc needs to be changed the disc will not eject, but sometimes it will. Sometimes when the next disc is inserted, it is not recognized, or else the game just quits. "Traitors Gate" does this constantly. Sometimes I can avoid this problem by saving the game at the point just before the app requires the disc change, then restarting the computer and opening the saved game, and then the disc will be recognized.
These maddening problems seem built-in to my Classic system under 10.4.11, and even earlier versions of Mac OS X. I have done an archive and install of 10.4 from Disc #1, and reinstall of Classic from Disc #2, followed by the 10.4.11 combo update, but this has had absolutely no effect.
FWIW, here are my computer's specs:
PPC PowerMac Dual CPU 2.7 GHz G5 desktop, built week of May 14, 2005
    Mac OS 10.4.11
1.5 GByte RAM (added 1 GB RAM is Kingston brand)
OEM 250 GB hard disk (Western Digital WDC WD2500JD-41HBC0)
ATI Radeon X800 XT AGP 8x graphics card
    ATI Radeon software version 10.3.6
Samsung DVD/CD Writer (TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S222L) - new
    Kensington Expert Mouse (trackball)
Utilities used in troubleshooting: TechTool Pro v 5.0.5, DiskWarrior 3.0.3, Disk Utility, Cocktail
Other software used for various experimenting: Pacifist, Show Hide Invisible Files, WhatSize.
Use of any utility above indicates there are NO problems with my system. However I strongly suspect none of those utilities touches Classic.
If anyone has any suggestions, I would be appreciative and would read them closely. Are there any available utilities that target Classic specifically?
Message was edited by: Bill Strohm - typos.

"Have you addressed the possible issues of allocating
RAM to OS9 Applications, and seeing if the total RAM
used in OS X with Classic running is marginalizing your
configuration? Even free space on the hard disk drive
will most certainly affect how Classic9 runs in OS X
since the Virtual Memory OS X creates from free drive
space would be compromised or marginal if drive is full."
"The Dig" requires 7700 KB of RAM, according to the "Get Info" box. I have upped that to 10,000 KB with no effect. I have tried playing with the "Temporary Memory" allocation per your suggestion and the Apple knowledge base, with no effect. The really odd thing is that yesterday, for example, the app opened normally and played normally... I saved another game, but when I returned today, the original problem resurfaced. FYI, I have a 250 GB hard disk of which 196 GB is free and contiguous.
If you don't mind, I would like to suspend discussion about this particular game and revert to another peculiarity of my Classic OS, one which has existed since Day One of firing up my computer in January of 2006... and which does not respond to reinstallation of either Mac OS X nor reinstallation of Classic.
Extensions generally appear as NOT belonging to the type which they are supposed to be.
The following Extensions are identified in the Get Info box as Kind: ColorSync Extension Document... Open With: ColorSync Extension. AND display the ColorSync icon:
    1) EM Extension
    2) CD-ROM (This is optionally installed with "The Dig." No effect if I do not install it, except this extension is absent.)
    3) Apple Guide
    4) CarbonLib
    5) ColorPicker
    6) ColorSync Extension (Whoop-de-doo, this one is right!)
    7) Contextual Menu Extension
    8) DCP SerialDMA
    9) Foreign File Access (optionally installed by "The Dig")
    10) Printer Share
    11) QuickTime
    12) QuickTime MPEG Extension
    13) QuickTime Musical Instruments
    14) QuickTime PowerPlug
    15) QuickTime VR
    16) Shared Library Manager
    17) Shared Library Manager PPC
    18) Sound Manager
    19) UDF Volume Access
    20) There are also 16 QuickTime extensions in the QuickTime Extensions folder identified as ColorSync documents; only 2 of the extensions in that folder are correctly identified... "QuickTime Player Extras," identified as a QuickTime Player document, and "QuickTime Web Helper," identified as just a "document," to be opened with "<none>."
I'm pretty sure this is an anomaly of the Classic System itself. The problem is, although I can go through each Get Info box and change the "Open With" text, in most cases I have no idea what that should be. For instance, what should open "DCP SerialDMA," or "Contextual Memory Extension?" Obviously if Classic "thinks" that those should be opened with ColorSync, nothing good is going to happen.
The Extensions folder is not the only folder in Classic that has this problem. Once again, here are some examples:
In System Folder/Preferences/Extension Preferences, there are 18 documents which according to Classic are to be opened with "Microsoft Excel"! None of them have anything to do with Microsoft Excel as far as I can see.
Being no expert on anything, but able to read English fairly well, I would say there is something wrong here, wouldn't you? I have never been able to correct this situation in Classic, and would certainly welcome any knowledgeable suggestions.
    Again, thanks for reading.

  • Samsung CLP-600n

We've had a Samsung CLP-600n connected to our Airport Extreme for about the past year. It's worked fine. We shut the power off while doing some electrical work and can NOT get it to work any longer, on any machine, over the network. We've got two powerbook g4 (one running updated Leopard and one running Tiger which is usually at work but occasionally home) and a macbook pro running Leopard. It will work when connected directly and with the non-networked printer set-up chosen. This will only work for the macbook pro though (one powerbook has a dead screen and is basically a desktop now and one has power issues that require it be plugged in at all times.)
We've done all the fiddling around we can think of, to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

Samsung's network setup instructions are pretty thin. Your Extreme probably issued new IP addresses after its power was restored. Your computers can't find the printer because they're looking for it at the same address it used before.
Delete the old printer queue - the one used when you connected it directly. You'll have to find the printer's IP address, then add the printer again in Print & Fax preferences. Perhaps there's a way to determine the address from the printer's front panel.
Try assigning it a fixed IP address so this won't happen again.

  • Samsung CLP-550N wont print...

I have 3 printers installed (all network printers) and two of them work perfectly.
The third one is a Samsung CLP-550N (PostScript, connected via Ethernet). It prints fine when accessed from other (Windows) computers in the net.
On my MacBookPro, the print queue goes to "stopped" immediately after sending any print job, no matter which application it was sent from. Clicking "Continue printing" has no effect. Printing the same Documents on one of the other printers installed works fine.
    What I could figure out:
    - It makes no difference if the printer is installed as Bonjour-Printer, as IPP-Device or as LPD-Device)
    - It makes no difference if the Driver provided from www.samsung.com or the "Generic PostScript Printer" Driver is used.
    - Reinstalling the Printer has no effect
    - Resetting the printing system has no effect (including all the hints like deleting preference files as seen on this forum)
    Any ideas?
    Thanx, Chris.
    MacBookPro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I just got the answer from another discussion. Paul Hillman received a response from Samsung and the solution worked for me. Search the discussions for "Printing jobs stops after installing Tiger, Samsung CLP-550N" or read on:
From Paul, "I just got a note back from Samsung in one day. If the printer is hooked up via ethernet, and the postscript driver is installed, go to system prefs/ printers and fax, add printer (the '+' button), choose IP icon at top, protocol choose LPD, put in the IP address of the printer, Lower down under print using: choose samsung, then the model number should show up, select it, hit the add button.
You can get the IP address from the printer's display (see manual) or if you installed the bonjour printer that stalls you can still hit the utility button in the set up printer window and print the NIC page.
    Worked for me."
I've only printed one page and haven't found any hickups yet; I will pray I don't. I contacted Samsung earlier today and haven't heard back. If they give me a more elegant solution, like a new driver, I will report back.
