Samsung CLX-2160N Network Printer - How?

All,
Thanks in advance for the support I know you'll be able to provide.  Here's my trouble.
I have a CLX-2160N printer from Samsung that I am trying to get connected to.  It is running on my network, at the IP address 192.168.1.18. I've tried installing it via the Samsung Universal Print Drivers installation and via CUPS/Gnome Print manager.  They all detect it just fine, but never are able to finish the connection.  I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Any good guides or advice to make this work?  I've tried a couple of the HowTo's for other Samsung Printers, but I've yet to make it work.
I welcome any advice you may have.
Thanks again in advance,
Dave

Alright..... It took me a few days to find where "Image Capture" is on my French OS. Here it is called "Transfert d'images"!!! Fun, fun, fun....
Now, let me try to clear a few things:
- I never said I use a wireless network. I use wired Ethernet.
- As far as I understand the quote I posted last time, VewScan is compatible with the Samsung scanner when connected trought USB.
I tried Image Capture. I read the help file. This soft can find only USB, Firewire or SCSI connected scanners, and eventualy..... a connected scanner to an wired computer as long as it is OS 10.3, same mask as the main Mac...
Image Capture does searches on the computer and on the network, but it sees only what an OS X shares.
Kappy, I'd love your ideas to work, but I think it is not for this time!
Thank you, -Yves.

  • [CLOSED]Network printing - how?

    Hi,
Got me a Dlink network print server. How do I set up my system/PC to use that? I understand that simply installing a printer locally will not do...
In one simple question: where is the manual?
    By the way:
The procedure to contact the print server given by Dlink themselves, using the "dlink-XXXXXX" approach does not work with Firefox - had to use annother browser to give it a new IP address in the network to "see" it from the Firefox...
EDIT - possibly a fireWALL not fireFOX problem.
    Tnx

Closed this for now - I think that network printing is well documented for Linux, I'd better do a search and then, after I depleted all avenues, come back with this question...
    Sorry for the trouble...

  • Samsung CLX-2160N not truly compatible

    Hi,
I am a new owner of this color printer. I choused it because it is "all inclusive" (printer, scanner, copy machine), it is cheap and it is laser. But, more, it works on a network.
The good news is that it runs quite well for the price.
The bad news is that you cannot use the scanner through the network. You have to scan the whole page just as if you were making a photocopy that you save on a USB key. Next, you plug that key in your Mac and start editing the scan in PhotoShop...  No fun.
On the other hand, it works nicely when the printer is connected in USB.
But, in my office, it not connected in USB!!!   And I paid extra money to have it working on a network.
Sadly, I have not read anything about this trouble. If it is written somewhere, it must be in very very fine prints!!!  Even some support people at Samsung told me it should work... until they admitted there is no software for OS X, just for Windows... Thanks guys
Other bad news: the firmware needs Windows to be installed. We do not have any Windows PC.
Alright, that was just to remind you that Samsung does not always tells us the whole story...
If anyone has an idea to solve this.... Thank you.

  • Wireless network printer how?

There are six computers, five of which are laptops, in this house, only one of which is an Apple, mine. All of the other computers are connected via a wireless peer-to-peer network to a desktop PC (read: mini server), through which we run the printer. My question is this: is it possible for me to connect my Apple to the printer through this wireless network? I have wireless capabilities on this computer, I just don't know if I am allowed to connect it to the PCs.
I have an Apple iBook 2001 Dual USB with OS X 10.3.9, the server PC (a Dell) is running Windows XP Home Media Center Edition. The printer is a Lexmark...something-or-other laser thingamajig (is that even important? If it is I can find out what it is exactly)

Yes, provided you can establish a wireless connection to the server computer. However, the version of OS X you are using does not always play well with PC networks. To print will require a compatible printer driver for your Mac which you most likely will need to download from Lexmark.

Connecting to Windows shares - fix Several users have been receiving the message "The Alias YOURSERVER could not be opened because the original item cannot be found" when trying to connect from a Mac running running Mac OS X 10.3.3 to Windows systems via the Finder.
MacFixIt reader Peter Monahan has found what appears to be a fix:
"Your Windows XP or Windows 2000 Computer must have at least One Shared Folder. Sharing only the Drive is not adequate in 10.3.3 If you do not have a shared folder (directory) then you will receive the "original item cannot be found" error when you attempt to connect from a Mac.
    • Create a shared folder and double-check the Windows security privileges.
    • If you want to share an entire Drive on a Windows XP or 2000 Computer, the share name must be Eight Characters or less (i.e. C_PETER or C_DRIVE) or you will not be able to view it or select it from the Finder drop down menu.
"In some cases you may need to delete the Windows Share and then establish a new share if you connect but can't see the contents of a drive. Once done and if you still have connectivity problems, either Restart the MAC, or delete the cached information by using the finder and selecting GO>>FOLDER and then type /var and hit enter. Then look in the "automount" folder and delete the folder called "network".
"Aliases now work as a result. Username and Password are now stored in Keychain. We can connect from finder in 10.3.3 to Windows Computers (as long as there is at least one shared folder). We can select aliases to load at start-up under System Preferences>>Accounts."

  • How-To: Setup up the Samsung CLX-3160

The Samsung CLX-3160 is a color workgroup printer that has the ability to scan, fax, copy, and print. It is a pretty good printer, but the drivers provided for the printer really are just designed to be used when connected to USB. Well thats just WONDERFUL for a printer that is designed to be used over the network right? So as opposed to complaining, lets solve the problem for any of you that needs this for the future.
    1) Open the CUPS web app on your machine (yeah surprised me to)
    http://localhost:631
    2) Click on the Administration Tab
    3) Click on Find New Printers so that the CUPS server will be able to find your printer over the network. If it find it, skip to the test page stuff
    4) More than likely it didn't find your printer so click on Add New Printer. Enter a Name, Location and Description for this printer. Doesn't matter what you pick really so long as you follow the comments and don't use forbidden characters. Click on Continue.
    5) On the next screen it will ask you for the Device (which is really asking for the protocol) and you want to select the IPP (Internet Printing Protocol). Don't select the Http version!
    6) The next screen is asking for your Device URI. To get this, go to the Printer and on the Menu go to the Network Settings.
Menu Button > Network > Network Info > Print > Yes
A page will then print on the printer containing the details you need
On this page there will be a Printer URI (i.e. http://10.0.1.4:631), enter this into the Device URI box and press continue.
For the Make select Samsung, Press continue.
On the Model select CLS-3160 Series and press Add Printer.
The next screen lists the default printer options. Select whatever options you want and then press any of the Set Printer Options buttons.
You will now see the printer setup in the browser. If you go over to the Printer dialog in System Preferences you will see the printer there as well. Before you leave this screen though, press the Print Test Page button.
Give it a few seconds to print.
    You're done. Enjoy!

Finally!!!! Someone that could fix my problem. I called Microsoft, Apple, and Samsung, and none of them could figure out why Print Preview would not work or why my Samsung CLX-3160 would print blanks.
I upgraded to Mac Office 2008 expecting that Leopard did not work well with 2004 Office. The problem remained. I was just about ready to backup everything and spend the day doing a full clean install of everything. Then I found your thread.
After HOURS trying other solutions and listening to each company blame the other, your solution fixed me up. A million thanks.

  • How to print double sided with macbook pro on Samsung CLX-3180?

    Hi,
I recently switched to using a macbook pro but cannot figure out how to print double sided/two-sided.
The printer I am using is Samsung CLX-3180 and it allows double-sided printing. I was able to do this with my windows computer previously.
The frustrating thing is that I see the two-sided feature but I cannot figure out how to turn it on. There is no option to change it.
    It is listed here.
First, I go to "show presets."
Then, I click on "copies & pages" but I cannot turn it on.
Does anyone know how to turn it on?
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

If you are having issues selecting two-sided printing from the Print window, you may find the following article helpful (it is aimed at Mountain Lion, but should also apply to Mavericks):

  • Printing pics to a Samsung CLX-6200

I just bought a new Samsung CLX-6200 laser color, multifunction printer. It has a multi purpose tray which I load with 4x6 photo paper. I am not able to figure out in Snow Leopard how to change the paper size and select this tray. Can anyone help please?
    Thanks!

In the Print Dialog, you can select the appropriate paper using the Paper Size menu underneath Copies and the page range fields. If you do not see this menu, and you have expanded the dialog box using the disclosure triangle to the right of the printer's name, what application are you using? To select the tray, select the Paper Feed panel in the menu that has the application's name.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to connect my mac book pro to network printer Canon IR 2010f?

I'm desperate to know how to connect my Mac book Pro to network printer Canon IR 2010f. This printer has an independent system, therefore, no need a PC to be on, in order to print. But this printer is a network printer. Help me please.

The Canon UFR2 v2.20 driver for Mac OS X does not list the iR2010F as a supported model. The same is so for the Canon PS driver so I therefore believe this model is PCL5e only.
What you should do is open Safari and type the IP address of the iR2010F. This will connect to the internal web page of the copier and from the provided pages you should be able to see what printer languages are supported.
If it only lists PCL then you will be able to print to this copier using the Generic PCL driver included with 10.6.
So if you open Print & Fax, click + to add and then select IP > LPD for the protocol you can then enter the IP address of the iR2010F and leave the queue name blank. For the name you can change that to iR1020F and for the Print Using, select Generic PCL Laser Printer.
One note with regards to this driver. It is defaulted to 300dpi so you will need to open the print dialog when you do print and change the resolution to 600dpi to get better print quality.

  • How do I add a network printer to a terminal server for one user?

I have a 2003 terminal server.  I also have a network printer accessible by IP.  I want one of the users on the TS to print to this printer.
If I log in as the user, all print options are greyed (access denied).  There's no 'users' icon in control panel to give the user admin access like I might do on a workstation.  This printer is not installed on a print server so even if he did
have access, doing so doesn't appear to be an option.  If I log in as Administrator I can add printers but it wants me to specify \\servername\printername and it's not set up that way.  It's just a network printer on an IP.  Also I'm not trying
to get RDP to map the printer locally for the user, he needs to be able to print from the terminal server to the network printer.  Any articles I can find assume the printer is either local to the user or on a print server of some kind.
    Is this possible and how?
    Thanks!

  • How can I print from a Windows PC to an AppleTalk networked printer?

I have a Windows Dell laptop (NT w/SP 2) that normally prints on a Windows network at my office.
At home, I have an AppleTalk network that includes a cable modem, router, various Macs connected by either Ethernet or wireless, and an HP 2100TN printer connected to that router via Ethernet. My AirPort Extreme also connects to that hub, so the network is a combination of Ethernet wired and wireless devices. When I connect the Windows laptop to this network (either wirelessly or by Ethernet), it cannot find the printer (although I am able to get to the Internet). I've tried to install Bonjour (Bonjour64Setup.exe) on the Windows machine, but it refuses (comes back with a message saying that "Bonjour is not a valid Win32 application").
I am trying to find out how to get the Windows laptop to find and use the HP networked printer.

Thanks for the various suggestions (the successful one was the HP Wizard).
I couldn't find the IP address of the printer (the test page-- when printed directly from the printer-- does not show the IP address, nor does System Profiler), and the method used for the Airport Extreme USB printer was not necessary (although that may come in handy, some day).
I downloaded the HP Network Printer Wizard which made the whole process fairly easy and worked. The HP Wizard found the printer and got the printer up on the Windows printer list. It really didn't need for me to give it the IP address (it found it on its own).
    Thanks.

  • How do I find the IP address of a network Printer

I have a dell 1320C color netwrk printer connected to a routher with a Cat 5e cable.  I want to find out what the IP address is on the network.  How can my Mac Book Pro auto detect the printer like my Dell laptop used to do?  If it can't auto detect the printer, then how do I find the IP address?

How do I make my HP P2055dn printer into a wireless network printer for 5 computers? Windows versions on computers used are  XP,Vista & 7.

Unplug the USB cable from the printer.  Plug your printer into your wireless router with an Ethernet cable.
Next, on each computer, get the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.  Install it and select "Network" installation when it asks.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.
