Samsung Convoy

I plugged my convoy into my computer. Verizon's update software downloaded and installed. It then said that I had an update available. I tried updating it, and my phone went into USB download mode. Then an error message popped up and said that upgrade failed and that it needed to go back to the previous version. I hit ok and nothing happened. I waited quite awhile and when nothing happened I tried restarting the software. After restarting it no longer recognized my convoy. I then took it in to my local verizon store and they told me they didn't have the right equipment to fix it. Isn't there some firmware I could download to instal via the USB cable?

    Hi spike501,
I want you to ensure you have the latest software on your phone. The convoy shouldn't have an update downloadable through the computer so I ask that we first verify the software loaded in the device. Follow the steps on http://bit.ly/SYy4cW as it's the same for the first Convoy and confirm that you have the SW / HW Version listed as u640.DL23. If this is not the case then please follow steps on http://bit.ly/TtG9Ta to update the software.
Thank you,

How do I remove my caller id from my samsung convoy phone so that the person I call does not see my name?

MojaveMoon's solution will work if there is only one person you want to block your ID from; if you want to block your caller ID from everyone, you can go to your account online, go to Change Features, and scroll down till you see Caller ID block.  Instructions say that once this is activated, you can dial *82 before any # you WANT to display your number to, but all others will be blocked.
If you are on a Family share plan, the account owner needs to log in and choose your line to activate this feature.

  • Samsung Convoy Bluetooth connection

I have a Samsung Convoy and 90% of the time I have to turn the phone off and back on to get the phone to connect with the Jawnone Icon . I have tried removing and re-pairing the Jawbone and phone and it didn't help. Any suggestions?

I recommend that you do a battery pull for your device.  Please remove the battery, press and hold the power button for ten seconds.  Replace the battery and power the device on.  Once the device is on, try pairing the device with the Blue Tooth.

I have a Samsung Convoy "dumb" phone, and I plan to keep it until Verizon forces me to some **** overpriced "smart" phone.  Since they migrated Backup Assistant to "the Cloud", I am unable to print a hard copy list of contacts. The web site just runs you around in circles, never getting to the answer of how to print out contacts.  I'm sure the marketing people and web creators just love this Frankenstein monster they have built, but for me and my phone, it's just a huge pain in the ***!  Do they plan to fix this, or just let us dinosaurs go away and die?

  • Using the Samsung convoy 2 with Microsoft Sync

After I pair my Samsung Convoy 2 phone with Sync it only works sometimes. It seems like when I get into the car it is not connecting via Bluetooth all the time. I hit the phone button on my stering wheel and it Sync says no phone found, I will try to connect one. My previous phone worked fine so I know the Sync system is functioning fine. Any ideas or is anyone currently using this phone with Sync?

I've got a Ford Edge with Microsoft's Sync system. It works pretty well with both my iPhone and my 5th Gen iPod. Playlists and all.
The biggest issue I have now is that the play count on podcasts (and presumably all music) doesn't get updated/credited for items played via Sync. This is an issue for me since the iPhone's relatively small storage space makes use of Smart Playlists essential, and most of my playlists have "play count - 0" on them to ensure fresh podcasts are synced up. I'll have to post about that in a new thread perhaps.
re: your specific issue, I don't think this will fix it, but Microsoft's Ford Sync is very picky about all metadata tags being complete on all items (artist, track, album, etc). Sync won't index items that don't have proper metadata, and if it doesn't index them, I'm going to assume it can't see them to play them under all the right circumstances.

  • Samsung Convoy 2 Questions

I recently switched from a Blackberry Curve to a Samsung Convoy 2. I just have two questions I'm hoping someone here can answer.
    1.  Why is this considered a basic phone rather than a smart phone? So far, it seems to have the capability to do everything my Blackberry did.
    2.  When I was setting up the phone, I thought I stumbled across a way to record your own ringtone. I'm a pianist and would love to make my own. In looking through the phone menus and the online manual, I don't see it as an option.
    Thanks!

    Good morning suzsubaru1955,
You make a very good point about why the Samsung Convoy 2 isn't a smartphone. I agree with you that this device has some attractive features that we come to expect in a smartphone. A vague definition of a smartphone is a mobile cellular device that also have PDA capabilities. Smartphones provide the end users a mobile experience that traditionally mirrors a PC, Mac, laptop, etc. The computing ability of a smartphone is more versatile than a feature phone.  Below, I have listed some of the characteristics that makes a device a smartphone.
    1.  A standalone mobile operating system.
    2.  Full HTML web browsers
    3.  Portable media players
    4.  Touch screen navigation
    5.  Various networking capabilities (Bluetooth, wi-fi, broadband)
Although there are more characteristics that can be listed to describe a smartphone, the 5 above a the most popular ones. I see that you are interested in creating your own ringtones. This ability is traditionally not offered in a feature phone. It is often found in the capabilities of a smartphone. There are third party apps that allow you to create customized ringtones available. A great place to start would be to google create your own ringtones. You will find several links, usually programs that work with the PC/Mac, that can help you create customized ringtones. If you have any additional questions or concerns then don't hesitate to reply to this message.
Good luck & happy ringtone shopping!

  • Samsung Convoy 2

I just received my new Samsung Convoy 2 & so far I am liking it.......but there is one issue I'm having.  My old phone was an LG flip phone & I had a Micro SD card in it.  When I put it into the Convoy, I don't see where I can access the pictures/videos on the card.  How do I access it?  The manual is NOT helping at all!
    Thanks!

You can view the SD card files by viewing the regular pictures on the phone.  Menu> Media Center> Pictures> My Pictures.  If the pictures do not show, it's because the formatting is different from phone manufacturer to phone manufacturer.  If the pictures don't show up, they are likely still on the card, but the phone can't read them because the card is formatted to your old LG phone.
Here's what you'll need to do:
    1) Back up the pictures using a PC. You may need to purchase a card reader if you don't already have them.
    2) Format the SD card on the Convoy 2 (click here for steps).
    3) Put the pics back on the card after formatting it.
    4) Put it back in the Convoy.  It will now display the pictures.
Let us know if you have any further questions.

  • Samsung Convoy 2 cuts off by itself

My husband has a Samsung Convoy 2 phone that is probably six months old.  The phone cuts off by itself several times a day.  The battery is at 100% so I don't think it is the battery.  He has to restart the phone and then several hours later, it will cut off again.  It has been doing this for several months.  The battery should not be old  because the phone is basically new.  Is anyone else having this problem?

It is my husband’s phone and all he uses it for is calling.  He doesn’t text, email, etc.  He says he is a “primitive man” and doesn’t need any of that stuff.  LOL!  But, yes, it just turns off by itself.  Not when he is using it, but he will go to call someone and it is off.  It does this several times a day.  He has tried taking the battery out.  Also, sometimes when it has turned off by itself, he can’t turn it back on until he takes the battery out and puts it back in again.  But, sometimes, he is able to turn it back on without taking the battery out.  He had this same model phone for several years and never had any trouble, so when it needed replacing, he wanted the same type phone.  This one has done this (cutting off) for a while.  He doesn’t realize that it has turned off until he needs to use it.  In fact, yesterday, he was waiting for UPS to deliver something and wanted me to call him as soon as it arrived.  He remodels homes and sells them and was waiting on this delivery.  I tried to call him and no answer.  I tried to call him for 30 minutes before I finally got in my car and went to the house that he was working on, only to find that his phone had cut off.  Really annoying!  Hope you can help!

  • Samsung Convoy 2 delayed answering

recently got a Samsung Convoy 2 and am having some issues. The main thing is that if someone calls me, there is a 4 to 5 second delay before it actually connects and they can hear me. So most of the time I say "hello" and they didn't hear me because it hadn't connected and they miss what ever I said. I noticed that the screen also has a delay (as far as the time of the call starting up). Anybody have this issue and does anybody know how to fix that?

If you are using the standard Verizon voicemail, then call in  via *86, choose option 4, Personal Options, then 3, Greeting, and follow the prompts to change your personal greeting.

  • Samsung Convoy 2 Camera Errors

I have the same issue with my Samsung Convoy 2 . I have owned it for about 1 month and until today it took pics and vids. This afternoon it started displaying this when I press the Camera  button :  "Camera Error". I tried removing the battery and card for ten minutes and it still has this issue.
    Any other ideas?
    Thank you

Hi Camaro's,  The camera has become an important part of our cell phones!  Let's get it back up and running!  I appreciate you taking the time to troubleshoot the device.  At this point I would suggest a hard reset on the device.  Here is a link to the instructions: http://bit.ly/TS6lLC
Please be sure to backup the data on the device as this will erase everything from the device.  Backup Assistant is a great resource to sync your contacts.  Please keep me updated on the status.
    Thank you,

  • Samsung Convoy 2 key lock

I have trouble with my Samsung Convoy 2-the keys on the outside only lock by pressing 1 key 1 time so while in my pocket, the phone unlocks and sends texts all the time. Is there a way to set the outside keys to lock using 2 keys or even opening the phone first?

Hello community! I can help you with that! The default
lock code is the last four digits of your phone number. Give it a try and let me know!

  • Samsung Convoy 2 Alarm issues

I purchased a Samsung Convoy 2 in May 2012 and the alarm is unreliable at best. Works sometimes and sometimes not. Is there a fix for this?  I have tried everything suggested up to and including a hard reset. Still not working consistently. Anyone else having this issue?  Could being outside service area have anything to do with it?  I was told the phone doesn't need service for the alarm to work, but wondering if the time not being updated automatically because of a lack of signal could cause this?

Aha!  I caught my alarm not working this morning.  It was supposed to go off at 4:04 a.m. and it didn't.  At 4:05 a.m. i picked up the phone and opened it and it read 3:58....... like it had not updated the time. This would certainly explain the alarm not going off. After being open for a couple of seconds, the time updated. It was in power saver mode, and I can't get any info on what that means.    I have also had it go off  2 minutes after the set time.  These two scenarios don't match because if the time updated when it was after the alarm set time, I would not expect the alarm to go off when the trigger time was passed. Don't know why I feel compelled to figure this out.  Doesn't appear anyone at Verizon shares the same need to come up with an answer. Again the elements at play here are..... in an area with intermittent signal, which would explain the time not updating until a signal was obtained. Phone going into power saver mode,  which i'm not sure what happens when it does that. And it doesn't seem to matter whether the phone is plugged into a charger or not. I have read posts about the Samsung Gusto having alarm issues also, so if anyone has any input I would appreciate hearing it.

  • Samsung Convoy as USB Modem

Can I use my Samsung Convoy as a USB modem to connect my Netbook to the internet? My netbook has Windows 7 Starter and when I try to use the phone as a modem it asks for the device SSID during the connection process. I have no idea how to find out what my phone SSID is or if that's all I need to find to make the connection work. Any guidance on whether this can be done and, if so, how to do it would be much appreciated.

    Hi Jake1313,
Great news! Your Samsung Convoy device is Mobile Broadband Connect capable. This means you can use your phone as a modem to access the internet on your computer. You just have to add the $20/2GB Mobile Broadband Connect feature to your Verizon Wireless calling plan (overage rate is $20.00 per GB. You can add this feature online if you access your My Verizon account, or we can add for you if you call us at 1-800-922-0204 when you are ready to add this feature.

  • Samsung Convoy 3 How do I set up my voicemail?

I just got Samsung Convoy 3 and when I called *86 to set up my voicemail, it tells me to enter the 10 digit number of the voicemail box. How do I set up my voicemail?

Call customer service. They may have to add the voicemail feature to the account. You should just have to *86 and follow instructions.

  • Samsung Convoy - keeps turning itself off when closed up

I'm having trouble with the Samsung Convoy turning itself off, when I close it to hang up. Sometimes it does it, sometimes not. If I try to slowly and very gingerly close it, it may not turn off.   Is anyone else having this problem? It's very annoying as I find out my phone has been off and I didn't know it.
    Thanks!

    Hello tdugdell,
I know it can be a bit frustrating when your device powers off without your knowledge.  Since you do have the most recent software I would first suggest to try a different battery in the device to help confirm if the root cause is device or simply the battery. If you do not have an additional battery we can see if your nearest store has a test battery to try and if not we can see what warranty options you may have.  If the test advises this is not a battery issue I would then suggest completing a factory reset. Click here to follow visuals to do so.  This process will erase everything on the device so please back up if desired.  Click here to for visuals to back up your contacts.  Once the reset is done the device will power cycle and prompt a re-activation by dialing *228 send option 1.  I would like for you to test the device before you add your contacts back via backup assistant if you choose to use the application.  If the test(s) is successful then proceed with adding your contacts and retest after.  Please advise me of the results, per the suggestions above, if you need additional assistance.  Thank you.
