what can I use my Droid Charge for, after I upgrade to the new Samsung Galaxy S2 for Verizon on September 8?
I guess it can run fine on Wi-Fi and become a media player.... or is there a market for 1-month-old Droid Charge phones?
How much trade-in value can I get from VZW or BestBuy or Amazon?
    Thanks!

  • What will happen to my unlimited 3G data plan if VZW gives me the Samsung Droid Charge 4G phone?

I currently have the Samsung Fascinate and the unlimited data plan, with a 20% corporate
discount .   The 2-year contract started when I bought the Fascinate in November 2010.
If I'm not mistaken, my unlimited plan is grandfathered in, even after Verizon changed the
    2GB limit for data plans.
There is no 4G service in my part of the state. There won't be 4G for at least 2 years,
according to the Verizon corporate store manager.  My part of the state was the second
to last to get 3G on the east coast.
If I take Verizon's offer and accept the Samsung Droid Charge 4G as a replacement phone,
what will happento my existing unlimited 3G data plan?   Can they activate the 4G phone
    on a 3G data plan?
Will the 4G phone pick up 4G signal when I travel to a major city with 4G service? (nearest
city with 4G is 230 miles away)

If I understand their policy correct you will continue your current unlimited 3G plan and have access to 4G in coverage areas as long as you DON'T change your plan. If you change your plan new rates will apply.
Can one of the Verizon guys here verify this?
    Consider it verified, Steve!

  • Possible Samsung Droid Charge problems.

I saw this post on another Droid Charge phone forum...it makes you wonder "what's up."
Verizon has told me that the Samsung Charge has been quarantined due to a software update. I was curious as to any remote estimate of when it may be available to purchase again. Does anyone know? Also, does anyone know if this is a result of Samsung being sued by iPhone for similar menus? Any help would be appreciated. I'm trying to decide which phone to purchase, and I had settled on the Charge but if it's going to be months before it is re released then I cannot wait that long unfortunately.
You can see the post for yourself here along with any further comments.

Verizon just gets more and more frustrating with lack of proper information. I guess the question still is....is it quarantined or not? Can't ask Verizon cause you will get 5 different answers from 5 diferent reps.

  • Samsung Droid Charge: how many got NEW and how many got REFURBISHED?

Question for folks who ordered the Samsung Droid Charge as replacement....
How many got NEW and how many got REFURBISHED phones?
There are some members on this forum who reported getting refurbished
units, sometimes even without batteries and battery doors.
The VZW corporate store that I went to told me that their customers all got
new-in-the-box units within 2 to 3 days after visiting the store.
The store manager assured me the same thing.... but I couldn't decide if I really
wanted a Samsung Droid Charge or the dual-core processor HTC Incredible 2....
so I'm gonna sleep on it for a couple of days.   (the HTC can be ordered over
the phone, without requiring a store visit, according to the manager)

Thanks!   I made a mistake... it was the Motorola X2 that has the dual-core processor.
Am I being silly here? Will a Motorola X2 with dual-core process be that much faster
than the Samsung Droid Charge with single-core processor?
Not that much faster, and could even be somewhat slower depending on settngs

  • Any Chance Droid Charge (Samsung SCH-I510) Will Get Another OS Update?

I received the Charge, free of Charge (pun intended!) a little over a year ago.  They were giving them away for a 2-yr contract renewal, and I bit!
I've had the Charge for approx. 16 months.  During that time, I have received 3 OTA updates (FP1, FP5 & FP8).  I have also noticed several problems mentioned in these forums already.  Most notably, the problem causing me the most grief is when multiple instances of the phone are created (launched by me, after no activity after each app instance).  All app instances appear simultaneously, and the poor person on the receiving end of the phone call hears me talking through several phone apps simultaneously ... echoing like mad.  Usually, a reboot clears this up.
I should mention that this problem doesn't happen nearly as much since FP8 was pushed.  Don't know if that was a coincidence or not.  But the problem does still happen occasionally.
I recently had another critical issue happen.  All of a sudden, I was getting force closes from many apps simultaneously, including system apps (com.android processes).  The phone became unusable.  Factory reset didn't resolve the problem.  After doing some research, I found that I could push stock software and re-partition the memory space again through ODIN.  I did this, and had no success at first because the phone thought I was using a non-stock battery, even though nothing had changed with the battery (stock battery received with the phone).  After pulling the battery, and re-installing, and pushing the stock software w/ re-partition (pushed the original EP4D flavor of OS), the phone operated as it did when I first received it.  Verizon pushed the "OTA" updates (FP1, FP5 & FP8), and my phone was back to good-as-new performance.  Actually, the phone is quite snappy now.
Needless to say, I'm still concerned about the Charge.  I am not up for contract renewal until March of 2014, so I'm just planning on doing a factory reset whenever I have these problems.
I recently read an article, stating that a bug was discovered in Feb 2013, which allows many devices made in the last 4 years (since "Donut" flavor of Android) to be susceptible to a bug taking advantage of "Master Key".  It claims that a dev could unknowingly push an apk to the Play store, which is infected with this issue.  It seems to be a stretch.  Here's the URL to the article:
    http://tinyurl.com/kj63ae8
I have followed the suggestions outlined in the article, and found that the Samsung droid charge is susceptible.  However, I've read a bit on XDA, and found that this is not really a huge problem, as it requires a user to install an infected apk, which doesn't happen all that often.  It's a flaw in the OS which bug-devs are not actively taking advantage of, it would seem.
Here's my question, I know the few Droid Charge owners out there are still a bit hopeful that it will get an update to the Jellybean OS.  Any chance this is possible?  I for one, would love this!
    Thanks for your consideration.

  • Samsung Droid Charge 4G issues

So, so far I have had a lot of issues with my Samsung Droid Charge.
4G has been extremely spotty. I have been in both 91304 and 94598 zipcodes. Both areas where there is supposed to be solid 4G coverage. Sometimes the phone will go an entire day constantly on 4G, sometimes it will be on 3G for hours at a time without going to 4G. Sometimes it will go to "1x" and will not let me go on the 3G network.
I went to the Verizon wireless store today and they swapped my simcard to see if that improves it, but it has not.
Sometimes I go to the system selection and i try to select "CDMA mode" and then select "LTE automatic" to reset it, and it will get 4G again, but only for a brief while and then it will go back to 3G.
Sometimes I will also just not be able to get any data connection for awhile as well, not even 1X, not 3G, not 4G.
Does anyone else have these issues with this phone?

    Ed1956 wrote:
I don't think is the phone itself but your location, I too purchased the Charge 4G and Verizon also said that my ZIP was in a solid  4G area....but the area is really about 10 miles radius around downtown, checking by ZIP is just Verizon advertisement and really does not work, that is a place where you can check using your actual address. Check where is the nearest antenna  from where you are is also a good idea, goggle "search for cell tower"
I only get 3G here, it works fine on 3G  at speeds +/- 770 kbps down and 800 kbps up and  fast when I am the very VERY SMALL 4G coverage 23220 kbps down and 4700 kbps up...but funny thing is, the REAL speed difference accessing Internet sites is just noticeable but not as fast as I was expecting...my DSL loads as fast as the 4G with only 6500 kbps down, go figures
You are never going to notice speed differences in general on small files. The real tests will be how fast LARGE files download. like a 100MB game vs. 512KB picture. The picture would load just as fast whether 4G or 3G with very little time difference, but the game you would see a drastic difference.

  • Update: VZW shipped me a brand-new Samsung Droid Charge in retail box

The VZW store that i went to was very nice and knew immediately what to do.  I was in
and out within minutes. The phone arrived via FedEX and it was a BRAND NEW phone
in retail box.   Again, this may vary.... others on this forum have reported getting
certified like-new phones.     I had to go back to the store because VZW forgot to include
the 4G SIM card which is required for 4G phones.   The manager gave me a SIM card
and activated it for me.   She said that most of the customers who exchanged Fascinate
for the Droid Charge have been getting new phones in the last few weeks.... the reason
is that VZW doesn't have that many pre-owned Droid Charge phones. That's not surprising
because the Droid Charge has been out only a couple of months.
VZW only guarantees that you will get a cerfitied like-new replacement Samsung Droid Charge.
It should be as good as new. If not, VZW should have no problem exchanging it for another
until you're happy.   I personally would not have minded if they sent me a like-new unit.
Makes no real difference to me.  IMHO, getting a brand-new phone in retail box was just a
    just a nice bonus.
My Droid Charge has been working great and I am very grateful for all the information that
other VZW customers and employees have posted on this forum.

    OMGoodness!!!
The VZW rep in my local store did the exact same thing!  I just got my phone today (spanking brand new, in a retail box) - alas, minus the sim card, which won't be delivered until tomorrow...
I think I'll go into the store, too - mainly because they want the Fascinate returned w/in five days.  I need time to transfer everything over & make sure I don't miss anything.  It's going to be a super-charged weekend & I really need to get this done tonight & play w/it.
    Hopefully, they'll give me one.

  • Gave up and ordered the Samsung Droid Charge today, like 100 other Fasinate owners at this store

I finally decided on the Samsung Droid Charge.   Played with the X2 and Incredible at the VZW store, but wasn't too impressed with the screens.  Samsung still seem to have the best-looking screen.(not "better" than the Fascinate's screen... just "bigger")
Anyway...  I went into the local Verizon Wireless corporate store.  There was one other customer ahead of me.  I walked around the store and looked at the Charge to make sure I was making a right decision.  A couple of minutes, a VZW rep became available and I told her what I needed.   I said "I have a Fascinate that was missing....." she stopped me before I coudl finish my sentence and said she would order me a Samsung Droid Charge.    (probably saw me playing with the Droid Charge?)
She asked for my phone#, last 4 digits of SSN#, and a daytime shipping address & phone# for FedEx 2-day.   I had to sing on the electronic pad and agree to return my current Fascinate once the Charge is delivered.   The receipt printed out.  The whole process took less than 3 minutes, probably faster if I wasn't chatting with her at the same time.  She was extremely friendly and helpful.(and so hot... and so out of my league )  Apparently she also had her own Fascinate replaced with the Charge and have been happy so far.(her words, not mine)  She went on to say that her store has probably processed over 100 such orders for Fasicinate owners ever since the policy was implemented  (they are the only Verizon corporate store within 50 miles and that seemed like an alarmingly huge number to me, considering my town is extremely small, population under 13,492)
I was slightly disappointed when the receipt showed "CLNR" because I knew it meant certified like-new replacement.    This store's manager told me last weeek that I would get a "NEW" Droid Charge.     However, I didn't really care.  I'm okay with it, as long as the "CLNR" that I get has no scratches on the screen, works per manufacturer specs and comes with the battery/door/SIM card.  (if not, I will just ask them to exchange it again with another CLNR)
Oh well... I guess I'll know how it goes when FedEx delivers it in a couple of days.

first, let me say that it's YMMV.
I took my Fascinate to the local Verizon Wireless corporate store.  It cannot be one of those
"authorized Verizon Wireless dealers" which are not operated by Verizon Wireless.
Tell the Verizon employee that your Fascinate phone has problems(such as missing calls)
and that you would like to have it replaced with a Samsung Droid Charge.  (if you want
the Motorola or HTC, then you can just do this over the phone without making a trip to the
    store)
The VZW employee should know what you're talking about. If not, have him search their
InfoManager database using "70946" which will bring up their Fascinate replacement
policy.    Based on what I've read here, there are some VZW stores that will argue with
you and make you go through troubleshooting steps.  This is not required, as clearly
stated in VZW's own policy for the Fascinate.  They know that the problem has no fix
at this time, which is why they implemented this policy.   If the VZW store that you go
to gives you a hard time, go visit another VZW store. (unless you live in a small town
like me and there is only one VZW store within 50 miles...)
The VZW store that i went to was very nice and knew immediately what to do.  I was in

  • Samsung Droid Charge Email Constantly Locks Up

My Droid Charge locks up daily where I have to force quite the email app. It consistently happens when I'm either sending or receiving email, then I try to do anything in the email app like view another email. Thoughts?

    Brutethunder,
This is just posted as an "item of interest," neither a cause nor a  solution to anything.
As you know with USB Debugging checked it allows an APP to get into your phones internal programming.  I wonder, but do not know, if by having the USB Debugging checked one of you APPs was getting into the operating system/programs area and causing some odd problems.  Then when you unchecked the USB Debugging that same APP performed what it was supposed to do instead of locking up your phone..
On my phone I found that when USB Debugging is checked it is easier and quicker to see my files/folders when using the USB cable to connect to my laptop...weird!
My USB Debugging is usually checked all the time because I use a program called DataPilot 7 (cost $15) to back up my contacts on my own laptop and that program requires that USB Debugging is checked when backing up your contacts and I usually forget to
    UN-check it.
I use DataPilot 7 because twice Verizon's backup moved all my old contacts back to my phone's contact list and, furthermore, it is very complicated to backup to BOTH the Verizon Backup and the Google Backup.  BTW, for me Google's backup was much easier so now I am backed up to Google, my own laptop, and my laptop's external back up disk.  Probably over kill but better safe than sorry!

  • Droid Charge ever getting new OS?

I'd love to hear from Verizon or Samsung with a definite answer on this, but will the Droid Charge ever get ICS? Or for that matter Jellybean? I can't help but feel like this device was seemingly abandoned shortly after launch. Outside of the update to Gingerbread and the recent bug fix, we're now 2 full Android releases behind, while even the Nexus S has even been updated to Jellybean (the Nexus S being six months older than the Charge).

Ice Cream sandwich does not require 1GB of RAM:
    "256MB RAM or More
    and also decent GPU
Hardware-accelerated 2D drawing might be needed, 2D acceleration depends on your phone GPU not the CPU so, there’s no problem if your smartphone still powered with ARMv6."
    Source 1, Source 2
Also you can run Jelly Bean on the Original Droid which has worse specs than the Droid Charge. Source
Chances of the Droid Charge seeing any sort of update to the newer versions are highly unlikely. Reason being the Droid Charge was already neutered when it launched. It has been forgotten by Verizon and Samsung. The only way you will see an update is not allowed to be discussed on this forum, but those chances are diminishing since most of the people that were working on it have left for greener pastures.

  • Can't get Droid Charge to access my internet email

I have Verizon/Yahoo email, which has a verizon.net address.  I just bought a Samsung Droid Charge and have tried to set up access to my email on the phone using the preloaded Verizon icon under email set up.  It just keeps saying that the attempt fails.....anyone having this problem?..can you give me some advice? Thanks!

When you do a clean install often you will need to start from scratch and re setup your Internet like starting a new.
You may have to delete any old account you had before and make a new account using the same settings as you had before.
When you do a reInstall it basicly reverts all your settings back to the way they were when you first started.
    Cheers Don
