Samsung HD LCD. Purple dots after powering on

Samsung LCD. HD, Direct TV.. Hit the power button on the Direct TV remote, TV makes the beeping noises like it's turning on.. Nothing. Try again, picture comes up, but has purple dot pixels on the screen. Power off, turn on again and it's fine.. any ideas?

That's a very common problem, among others, with Samsung's 2007 models. I have a 4665f purchased from BB as well that's started giving it's first signs of the usual bad capacitor problems.
Mine seems to be suffering from soon to fail capacitors on the power board since it wouldn't power on a few days ago until it had been unplugged for awhile. And has also started experiencing random audio dropouts. I was glad when I remembered paying the extra $249 at the time for the service plan, but not so glad when I found my receipt and remembered that it's just the Product Service Plan, and not the standard Product Replacement Plan, so I'm about to get my first experience with my local BB's tv repair crew, or whoever they may contract it out to if there is such a place here in my town.
Not sure if I'm allowed to post links to other forums here, but you can find a great owner's thread over at the AVS Forums site that will give more info on your, unfortunately, common problem.

  • Damaged Samsung 32" LCD TV

    To Whom it May Concern,
I purchased a Samsung 32" LCD TV in store at Best Buy on July 28th. Not wanting to handle the television too much I had an in-store manager carry it to the checkout station and he bumped the center of the box against a blind corner he could not see. Harmless enough I thought and I didn't have him check the TV to see if it had been damaged since the bump seemed rather slight. I transported the unit home myself and awaited the delivery/set-up of my HD Direct TV satellite so that I could enjoy the newest addition to my home theater with all the trimmings. Well to my dismay, after pulling the TV from the box just a few days after I purchased it, that rather benign bump caused by the in-store manager cause a very small ding in the screen but when the television is turned on  it looks like the entire LCD is smashed and I have no idea how I'm going to get BB to believe that I didn't cause that in transit. Can it even be repaired? I'm sooo disappointed and frustrated. HELP!!!

I would take it back to the store for an exchange, the sooner the better.  Bringing back the same day or next definitely helps as far as believability in concerned.  So don't delay any longer, explain the situation without losing your temper out of your self described frustration.  Customer service workers are typically more willing to help a fellow PERSON out who are kind, courteous, and sincere. In a public place, the term PERSON usually goes away with the presence out a hostile customer, who is then seen more as a threat than a human being.  Worst case scenario would be to contact consumer relations at 1-888-BESTBUY if a legitimate complaint needs to be placed.

  • Small vertical lines when connecting macbook to a Samsung 37" LCD via HDMI

    Hi
Just connected my macbook to a Samsung 37" LCD thru the HDMI port. Works a treat bar one issue...on non-moving images, colours which aren't whites or blacks, namely brighter colours, there appear small vertical lines. These seem to appear around the areas where there is a substantial difference between 2 colours (example the outline of a face against a lighter or darker background).
Tried all the obvious things such as calibration, different resolutions etc but cant get rid of them...they dont seem to be there with moving images though and certainly not on mainly white displays such a the Google homepage for example............Any thoughts?
    Much obliged

i have a samsung 52 inch tv and i have hooked up the vga connector to my pc input on my tv and went to pc input on the screen. all i keep getting when i start is the background but no icons or anything and i cant move the mouse on the tv. if i try to mirror the windows in the display i get a message that says mode not supported on the tv. any ideas. i don't have an external mouse to try

  • MacBook connecting with VGA to Samsung 40" LCD TV -- picture is offset

I just plugged my MacBook into a Samsung 40" LCD TV with a VGA cable and a mini-DVI/VGA adapter. The picture looks crisp and great on the TV at 1360x768, except for one major problem -- on the TV, the whole screen is shifted to the right by maybe 200 pixels, so that there's a black bar on the left and the rightmost stuff (like the spotlight icon and the time) gets cut off.
This happens with mirroring on and off, and the laptop screen displays normally.
Anyone encounter this before and know how to fix it? If not, might switching to a DVI-to-HDMI connection work better?

Does your TV have an auto adjust menu option, like regular LCD monitors? If not have you tried turning the TV off and then back on while the MacBook is connected? Under your System Prefs, does it detect and list the Samsung LCD? Have you tried clicking the "Detect Displays" button while everything is hooked up?
PS I run DVI out on my Mac Mini to my Samsung DLP TV. DVI seems to be a sharper picture than the few times I used the VGA input.

  • LaserJet 1020 won't print first document after powering up

My LaserJet 1020 won't print the first document it receives after powering-up. Print manager shows that the document is being sent, the printer makes noise like it's getting ready to print, but the document is never printed and I don't receive an error messages. If I send the document again the document prints as does every document there after.
I'm using Windows Vista Professional and the printer is connected via USB 2.0.

    Hi jnickelsen,
I understand the printer won't print multiple copies.
    Thank you for your reply.
I will be happy to help you with this.
This printer doesn't have the Mopier settings.
    What drivers are you using?
Did you download the drivers or are you using the Windows preinstalled drivers?
If you are using the Windows preinstalled drivers then I would download the latest drivers. Here is the URL for the HP LaserJet Full Feature Software and Driver.
I would download and run the Print and Scan Doctor since it might resolve the issue automatically.

    Hope this helps.

  • How can I add dots after text to fill the remaining space in a table cell?

What is the most efficient way to add dots after text to fill the remaining space in a table cell? I know it is possible using tabs but is this possible using a table?

You can put a tab inside a table cell using Option+Tab
Then just set the right-aligned tab stop and the right edge of the table cell and add the leader.

  • My Macbook Pro *****! I have had it for 2 weeks now, got it brand new at the apple store, it freezes all the time, and reboots itself, sometimes when i start it, purple dots cover the screen and i have to hold the power button.

I have had it for 2 weeks now, got it brand new at the apple store, it freezes all the time, and reboots itself, sometimes when i start it, purple dots cover the screen and i have to hold the power button. a 2 week old computer is not supposed to do this! it wastes all its time being so flashy that it just craps out all the time. sometimes i feel like i should have stayed with my virus covered PC. at least when it shut down randomly you could turn it back on, but with the macbook pro, it just keeps restarting itself over and over. need help with this, any answers?

Here's a novel thought. Take it back to the vendor. Should have done that one week ago.

  • Question on Gaming with Mac Mini and hooking one up to a Samsung TV LCD HD

I am looking at buying the 2.26 Ghz mini with 4 gigs of ram. I understand that minidisplay port does do audio and that a 3rd party is releasing a cable that does just this instead of 2 adapters to make it work without audio. My first question is, I would like to make a mini take the place of a apple tv. Namely because I would rather have full functionality on a tv rather than just the audio and movies and pics. If I get the optical cable, I understand the optical in the audio jack out does support 5.1 surround if you are using the optical and not a regualar 3.5mm jack. Is this correct?
I also was curious about how well the 9400m graphics card would handle a game such as World of warcraft. My laptop does just fine, but it also has a faster processor, the 9600 gt and a 7200 rpm hard drive. My tv is a Samsung 52" LCD 1080P 120HZ. Thanks in advance!

Who confirmed that to you? I'm having major difficulty finding out if the Mini DisplayPort does indeed have audio capabilities. So far it's not looking god, which seems like utter madness.

  • Touchpad pointer jumps around when connecting to samsung 40'' LCD

    Hi guys
For the past two years, I have been connecting my macbookpro 13’’ (mid2009) to my Samsung 40’’ LCD using mini displayport to hdmi cable, suddenly something went wrong and the touchpad pointer started to  jump (twitch) around. I tried different adapter but the problem still occurred. when I remove the cable. the pointer act normal.
Last night I connected my MBP to an old made in china LCD TV and everything worked fine.
what do you think is the problem? Is there any troubleshooting steps I should do? Please help

No trackpad control when HDMI cable connected or trackpad goes crazy when HDMI cable connected?
The erratic Track Pad/Magic Pad behaviour could be caused by the SMC.
Try resetting the SMC this way:
    1. Attach the HDMI cable.
    2. Power off the MacBook Pro.
    3. Press the L-Shift/Control/Option and Power button at the same time and hold.
    4. Release them all at the same time (its ok if the MacBook Pro power on now)
    5. Then power on the MacBook Pro.
Not only did my USB regain functionality, but it appears to have resolved my erratic Track Pad/Magic Pad behaviour. It now operates as it had done when new.

  • Blue screen after powering, scoped the forums, tried out all the suggestions, no luck

    Really need your help guys!
    Blue screen after powering
    Imac alu, SL 10.6.8
    Failed methods so far:
-repair disk permissions via external system or install DVD, no luck
-->message "Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired."
i know that Apple says the message can be ignored
-unplugging the imac of every peripheral device as well as power cord,
holding down the power switch for 10 sec.
    -doing p-ram reset
-booting in safe mode, blue screen-->loading circle+blue screen--> no loading circle + blue screen---> loop phenomen
    Do have any other suggestions?
When booting from an external hard drive, the icon of the internal hard drive on the desktop has got a lock now. Do you know what to make of that?
    Thanks,
    G.

Nevermind!  Used suggestion from an older post and it worked!

  • Green and purple dots on screen (fixed!)

So I had green and purple dots all over the screen of my iMac (10.5.6, intel 24"). The dots would disappear briefly when windows were dragged over them. Green dots appeared on black backgrounds and purple dots appeared on lighter backgrounds (e.g. "about this mac" was really bad). I didn't find the solution anywhere and several people reported needing to replace their hardware. With the help of a technician at Apple, we figure out the fix (in my case).
    Here's what didn't work:
    - shutting off the machine and unpowering for 15 seconds
    - resetting the PRAM
    Here's what DID work:
    - go to Utilities
    - go to Disk Utility
    - select Macintosh HD
    - press "verify disk permission" (and wait a long long time)
    - press "repair disk permission" (and wait a long long time)
    - reboot
This fixed it. Apparently errors on disk impact bits in displaying certain things. Who knew.
Anyway, I hope this helps someone else.
    Nate

    OK. Thanks.
I noticed that when I ran the verify/repair permissions again, it found some, repaired it, and the dots went away again. That would indicate a hardware problem.

  • I am getting green and purple dots

I am getting green and purple dots. When I click on icon with video for file info on my 27inch IMAC G5 Quad Intel. Dots are all over the screen. When I grab a window around the screen these tiny green-purple dots and they disappear.

  • Samsung 52" LCD TV-no image

I bought Samsung 52" LCD TV about 2 years ago in Best Buy. The very last time I watched TV was 5 days ago. Then, 2 days later, when I was going to watch TV again, I found the TV wouldn't response from the remote control. I changed the battery on the control. I tried to use the bottoms on the TV set, it didn't work either. Although the blue light on the bottom is on, the LCD screen just went black totally.
Question1: where I can find out that I purchased the protection plan or not? Question 2: How long the factory warranty cover? Q 3: If I don't have protection plan, where I should go to find repair? Please advise and thank you in advance.

Good luck with this. I hope you have better service than we have. Our Samsung plasma was less than a year old and we've been without it for 5 week and it will be 8 or more by the time it is resolved. If you don't have an extended warranty (we do), just go to your local tv repairman and have it fixed. It takes forever to get through the red tape of BB and the Geek Squad. See my post on the 16th. Ours is some electronic panel. Friend so mine with an LCD had the same issue but theirs was only the bulb. Good luck!

  • PPC Mini works with Samsung 46" LCD at 1360x768 (sort of)

    Greetings.
I just purchased a Samsung 46" LCD panel with the intent of using my PPC mini as a home theatre. I connected the mini to the LCD and once I turned off overscan, the display looks very good. The on-screen text is clear and sharp and the colors look great.
I am having a problem, however, displaying graphics such as DVD movies. It looks that when I play DVDs there is a bit of pixellation and the blacks look washed out.
The guys at BestBuy told me that this is due to the mini not producing a video frame rate fast enough. Is this true? If so, will the graphics processor in the Intel mini work any better?
    Thanks in advance.

Have you checked the refresh rate! On my screen anything above 60hz can cause problems with the PPC mini.

  • MacMini, Pioneer  VSX-23TXH reciever, Samsung 52A LCD

I have the configuration mentioned in the topic. Everything is working fine, video and audio. The only problem I have is that the desktop, when displayed on the Samsung 52" LCD, is a little bit to far to the left. In other words, there is about a 1/2 inch black on the right side of the display and on the left, the desktop is cut of in such a wa that you can only see about half of the apple in the the Menu bar. I have a several resolutions available and have tried them all. The best display I get is when 1344x765 60Hz, Overscan is selected. With in the Samsung Monitor menus I have it set "Just Scan" under the Mode heading. You can move the desktop four ways but it doesn't go all the way to the right...and you still have a "half apple" showing...but now a 1/4" black stripe down the left side of the screen.
If someone is using this configuration adnhas figured out to get a goo display, I would appreciate it. I did have a Yamaha receiver before and it all appeared fine...until it's HDMI ports went bad.
    Thanks
