Samsung HDTV wont display properly

I hooked my dual core Mini to my Samsung TX-P2670WH HDTV with a DVI cable. The text is blurry and I have to set the resolution at 640 x 480 just to make it out. The specs say it is 720p and 1080i compatible TV. No amount of tweaking with settings has helped. How do I get it to display properly?

It might be that your TV is always doing some kind of scaling and/or image smoothing regardless of the incoming signal. While this usually works really well for video, it will usually completely ruin computer output by making the image blurry.
Try turning off all possible "image optimization" settings on the TV and then setting the resolution as close as you can to the native resolution of the screen.
Note that on some TVs it is impossible to completely turn off image scaling so you will always end up with somewhat unclear picture. The effect is very similar to driving your LCD monitor on a resultion that is different than its native one.

  • Emails wont display properly

    I like the Mail app: its easy to configure and most emails display properly.
    Some emails, though, will not display at a readable resolution : the font is too small to read.
    When I try to click / touch to zoom (as in maps or safari) in it doesn't work.
    Is there a work around apart from going into the mail account via safari?

    Thanks.

  • Fonts wont display properly in Safari

    I have to restart my computer about twice a day to get rid of the gobbledey-gook that comes up in my browser address bar
    they look something like this --> *&^%((&$#@#
    Also anything that uses system fonts to display the characters does this. This is also happening in my mail program and in SuitcaseXI.
    I have stripped down my system fonts to the bear minimum and I have tried font cache cleaner but that doesnt work for very long. Is there a more permanent solution to this problem?

    I'm not experiencing your problems but the Standard font in Safari is set to Times 16 and Fixed-width font is set to Courier 13.
    See if that helps.

  • JMenuBar wont display properly.

    I have a JMenuBar that when I implement it is seen on the JFrame but it is only the length of the buttons and when you go to click on it, nothing comes up, its just like a little thing comes out from beneath, but when you fully maximize the window it works fine just like in Firefox or such. I have tried to repair() and some other methods but none work, does anybody have an idea to get rid of this.
    For solution I either need the JMenuBar o be fixed, or I need it to be there but to be hidden, so other classes can use it, but you cant see it. The reason for this is if ya get rid of it you get some nasty errors.

    The javax.swing.JMenuBar appears but it is not formatted correctly for the window size. I would like to make it so it fits and works p[properly,  Another option would be just to hide this JMenuBar.
    I cant really post an example.

    Hello,
    Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
    You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
    *Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
    *In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
    *In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
    *Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
    Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
    Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

    I am trying to connect my Macbook pro 2010 to my Samsung HDTV using a mini display port to hdtv cable. Trying to play a slide show in IPhoto but I only get sound with no picture. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    I keep saying this over and over, in the hope that people who do a search will find it.  Apple cannot possibly test for or be reponsible for the bazillion combinations of adapter, cables, and TV's out there.  The only monitors that are 100% guaranteed to work with the MacBook Pro are the Cinema Displays and Thunderbolt Displays, because, they're made by Apple.  They're expensive, but they work perfectly.
    My guess is that you bought a cheap MDP to HDMI cable, or have a defective one.  From my reading of these boards over the past few months, cheap cables have a high failure rate.  And the regular priced ones have only a slightly less of one.  Try a new one.  Make sure you do not damage the Thunderbolt port.

  • IMovie '08 Wont Open Properly

    Hi Ever Since I Installed Leopard My Version Of iMovie '08 Wont Open Properly In The Dock Is Says It Is Open And On The Bar At The Top It Says iMovie '08 But No Window Opens And I Cant Make A New Project Or Anything. I Have Also Reinstalled It As Well And Still the Same Problem.

    Thanks

    Actually after some digging around in the Apple Message Boards I found the problem. I went to system preferences, selected, displays, then chose "color" and pick any new profile. I chose the "srgb...." profile, then exited system prefs. When I opened iMovie... tada! it worked. Strange fix, but OK.

  • Macbook to samsung hdtv

    after connecting mac to samsung hdtv with relevant cables ,screen saver appears on tv nothing else
    is there something else i need to do .
    would appreciate any advice

    When you say +screen saver+, do you actually mean your desktop wallpaper? If so, what you probably have is an extension of your MacBook screen showing on the tv. What is it that you would like to see on your MacBook? on your tv? Your options are:
    The same thing on both or mirror.
    The main stuff on the tv and just the +screen saver+ (desktop wallpaper) on the MacBook (which is the opposite of what you have now.
    Some stuff on each.
    Everything on the tv and close the lid on the MacBook.
    The answers to these will determine what you need to do next. If you do nothing, you are able to move your curser or a window to the right off the MacBook screen and it will appear on the tv. The settings can be found in System Preferences/Displays.
    btw... the screensaver/desktop thing is very common and I find it humorous. Please don't take offense.

  • Issue with Lion OSX and Samsung HDTV

    Hi everyone,
    I have a problem while connecting my Samsung HDTV model LNT3242HX with my Mac ever since I upgraded to Lion (I was previously on Snow Leopard).
    I'm using a  Macbook 2.13 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo (Mid 2009).
    I use the Mini DVI to VGA cable and I hook it up with my TV. The thing is, with Lion, when I connect my TV, it doesn't fit the whole TV screen. There's about an inch to the left and the right where the screen stays dark. I did not have this problem with Snow Leopard.
    When I check in my display preferences, my resolution is set to 1360x768 , however it says Usable Resolution 1280x768...And there's no way to change the refresh rate to anything else besides 60 hertz....
    I don't really know if anyone can help? As it used to work just fine before, I assume there must be some kind of glitch between OSX Lion and my HDTV. I tried hooking it up to my other LG HDTV, and there is no problem, it's just with my Samsung TV.
    Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me out!

    I have the exact same problem except mine is a 52 inch tv and there is at least 6 inches on either side plus 3+ inches on teh top and bottom.  Wasnt an issue with Snow Leopard.  I read somewhere that I may need to buy a $100 adapter instead of using the DVI to VGI cable.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I use this setup when I telework and the screen resolution is too small to be useful now.

  • MBP wont display 1080p on monitor any more

    I have an early 2011 Macbook pro and a hp 2511x monitor. The setup worked flawlessly before I went off to school. Now that Im back home my macbook wont display 1080p on the monitor, only 720p. While attempting to display 1080p the monitor screen is blank but I am able to move my mouse over to the external dispaly just fine, just no picture. My mac will display 1080p on other external monitors & the monitor will work fine with other computers or xbox on 1080p.
    Just upgraded from 10.7 to 10.9 and still not working properly.
    Connecting from mini display to hdmi

  • Characters not displaying properly

    I can't find how to properly enter and display certain chars from my db to my jsp page.
    For instace, the word "Li'l" is displaying as "Li?????l".
    things like TM,R arent working either.
    the "'"(apostrophe) is entering into the DB without a problem- but it wont display. The (TM) is not storing or display properly.
    Is there anyway to copy text directly from wordpad into a textbox and have it store in mysql and display in jsp correctly?
    Also, this might be a question for the mysql section:
    If i'm doing a query like thisSELECT ID, brandName, productInformation, productName, productImage FROM blahblah.uk WHERE brandName = '" + brand + "'"; and " brand + has an apostrophe- the query screws up. Is there a way around it at all?
    here is my entire DB connection code.
    <%
    Class.forName("org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver");
    conn = "jdbc:mysql://" + host + "/" + db + "?user=" + user  + "&password=" + pass;
    Connection Conn = DriverManager.getConnection(conn);
    Statement SQLStatement = Conn.createStatement();
    String Query = "SELECT ID, brandName, productInformation, productName, productImage FROM blahblah.uk WHERE brandName = '" + brand + "'";
    ResultSet SQLResult = SQLStatement.executeQuery(Query);
    %>
    <%
              while(SQLResult.next())
                     x_ID = SQLResult.getString("ID");
                    x_brandName = SQLResult.getString("brandName");
                    x_productName = SQLResult.getString("productName");
                    x_productInformation = SQLResult.getString("productInformation");
                    x_productImage = SQLResult.getString("productImage");
                    thanks

    May I assume since you're using ASP that you're on Windows? The only way I'm aware to be able to display Arabic characters on Windows would be to set your Windows language to Arabic. This will be somewhere in the Control Panel, but without knowing what version of Windows you're on, it's hard to be more specific.
    In general, SQL*Plus is not a wonderful tool for viewing non-English data.

  • MBP to Samsung HDTV

    Before anyone questions, I did a search, but I still come away with questions. OK, here's the scoop; I've got a 15" MBP (Nov '08) and I want to connect it to a 26" Samsung HDTV. If I'm understanding correctly, the MBP has Mini Display Port and the Samsung HDTV has both HDMI and DVI, so do I convert from Mini to DVI or Mini to HDMI? Where's the best place to get quality adaptors and cables?
    Please forgive my ignorance, I'm new to Macs(loving the experience). Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Paul

    You can use either DVI or HDMI - both are digital, so there's no quality difference. For HDMI, you need the mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter from Monoprice, then an HDMI cable. For DVI, you'd need Apple's Mini-DisplayPort to DVI adapter and a DVI cable.
    You'll also need a separate cable for audio - mini-toslink to toslink if your TV has digital (optical) audio input, or a mini-stereo to RCA cable if it's analog only.
    Note that some TV's need you to use a specific HDMI port (if they have more than one) to use a separate audio input (HDMI can carry audio, and does from a DVD player, for example, but the MBP does not output audio via the mini-DisplayPort). Check your TV's manual.

  • Can My 6800 Ultra Push Video To My Trusty Dusty Samsung HDTV

    Hello
    I have a DP 1.8 with a 6800 Ultra card. I have an older Samsung HDTV that has a DVI connector. The Samsung website tells me that it is a DVI-D Single Link input. Can I run a standard DVI-D cable from my card to my TV?
    I am hoping to use this older Samsung of mine as a display to test my video edits on before exporting and what not.
    Anyone have any luck?
    Thanks.
    If anyone finds this whose curious--I have two 1.5TB Seagate HD's in my G5 and it runs like a champ.

    If one or both connections are DVI-D, you need a DVI-D cable.

  • Cannot connect Samsung HDTV to Macbook pro (late 2011)

    I just bought a Samsung HDTV and would like to connect it to my Macbook pro from late 2011 running lion. I have both the adapter and the hdmi cable. The hdmi cable is plugged into the tv. When I try to change the source on the tv to hdmi it says no device found. I have tried turning both the tv and laptop off and then plugging in the cable, then turning on the tv then computer. The computer does not recognize that anything is plugged into it either. When I go to system preferences: display, it does not recognize the tv.
    HELP!!!!

    After clicking detect displays I assume and mirroring is checked.
    Try a NVRAM reset see if that helps.
    Leave it connected to the TV w/TV on, power off the MBP and power it on holding the following keys:
    COMMAND+OPTION+P+R hold till before the start chime and continue to hold til you hear the start chime 2 times, then release. Reboot.
