Samsung Home theater with dvd player want to upgrade to wireless - what's best?

Hi-
I have a Samsung home theater system with 5 disc dvd changer and the rear speakers are hard wired.  Should I upgrade to the "bar" system with no rear speakers.  Is that type of system better audio quality.  Any suggestions?

By eliminating the rears, you will not have the same immersive experience. The sound/tonal qualities of a soundbar can be very good.
I don't know if a bar is an "upgrade", unless you consider simplifying your setup a step in the right direction. Bars have become popular for their relatively decent sound, while being extremely easy to implement into any situation.

I want to upgrade from 16gb to 32 for my imac 27", release date Sept 2013. I've been reading about Crucial memory problems with random restarts and kernal panic notices as late as today on the Crucial website. Any tips on a third party memory brand that is least problematic?

I personally would steer clear of the others listedi n Baby Boomers link.  Not because they may or maynot be good I am just not familiar with them.
Just because you are not familiar w/the website, the OP should steer clear?  <Edited by Host>
For the record, I have been using Ramseeker website since 1999.  Not once have I ever had a problem w/any of their RAM.
I would never recommend a website if there were known problems w/their products.

  • How to interface SC-HT800v Panasonic Home Theater with New Samsung LED/LCD 6500 series TV

I don't see how the 14 pin cable coming out of the subwoofer will connect to the new TV or our new Blue Ray player Samsung BD-C5500.  We currently have no receiver since that was in the Panasonic VCR/DVD that we have abandoned.  Can you confirm this & also offer a suggestion of a new home theater system?  Thanks, Susan

Buy a Samsung Home Theater soundbar system. That will fit your needs perfectly not to mention you will be able to control your TV, Blu-Ray, and the sound system with a single remote control.

  • Problems with DVD Player 3.0.1 in G4/466

Problems with DVD Player in G4/466
Yes, I've a g4/466 with two disks. In the first there's system 9.2.2 and the DVD player goes perfect. In the second I've system 10.2 and the 9.2, and the DVD Player (3.0.1) on the system 10 begins to jump in the dock, but stop and nothing happens, I can't open it...
There's any way to reinstal it form system disks???
Or any download to check the error?
    Thanks

    1. Try using Pacifist to extract it from your Mac OS X 10.2 installation disks, and then run the combo updater for your version of Mac OS X and any applicable DVD Player updates.
    2. Open the Console application in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and look for lines relating to the DVD Player.

Not sure what your asking as it should be very simple, you are talking about the X-fi front bay unit right? You have a DVD player with R&w outs, you simply connect to those and then the same R&W connectors on the bay unit. I believe its treated as Linein2 in the mixer. Should be very simple to figure out

  • Problem with DVD Player

I inherited this computer and have spent the last couple of months upgrading it. Put a gig of ram in and added a PCI card to help with a multi screen setup but now I have hit my first major head ache. I bought a Pioneer DVR - 104 off of ebay and installed it no problem. The only issue is once I went to test out my dvd feature I found I had no DVD player. I tried updating the system but it would not install it. So I finally was able to get 3.1 off of this site and it won't start up. It just blinks on the dock once and dissapears. I checked the specs and this machine came with the superdrive but my father opted out of it, why I don't know, so there should be no issues with the hardware, can anyone help me on this?

    Hi-
I'm sorry the extras is in OS 10.4- my mistake. In OS 10.3, I believe the DVD player is in the main package. I couldn't find it to install seperately. So.......
    Let me recap-
1- The DVR reads install discs
2- DVD's won't play because DVD player does not run
3- DVD-R discs show no response
    So-
    1- The DVR is reading
2- The version of DVD player may not be compatible
3- There is no burn support
To check burn support, in System Profiler, check if under Burn Support "Yes" is showing.
My current thinking is, that since there was no DVR in the origional configuration, you may need to reinstall (Archive and install) the OS 10.3 to get the proper DVD player installed. this should also configure burn support.
The other way to get burn support is to use the patchburn that I gave you the link to.
BUT, I think you should do things one at a time. My advice is to first get the DVR to read, play and burn in that order. There is obviously a problem with DVD player, so, unless some else can advise differently, I would try the Archive and Install of the OS 10.3.
It may also be good to run the OS 10.3.9 Combined Update:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxcombinedupdate1039.html
trying the combined update now wouldn't hurt. If it does not remedy the situation, try the Archive and Install, then update.
    Best-

  • I have a MacBook Pro OS X v.10.9.1 that doesn't seem to have a DVD player installed. Any thoughts on what app would be best?

I have a MacBook Pro that doesn't seem to have a DVD player installed. Any ideas on what would be best for viewing?

    Hi
I would try this - from Apple
To burn DVDs  - You know that they come in two versions ?
Data-DVDs - to store files (even movie files) onto - Can not be played on any Video-DVD-player.
Video-DVDs - as commersial movie DVDs
Data-DVDs - can be burned directly from DeskTop/Finder (but only one time/DVD - no incremental storage)
    Video-DVDs - needs a DVD-authoring program.
    • iDVD - is the best possibly for most of us (not avail. from Apple any more)
    • DVD Studio Pro - best ever made ? (not avail. from Apple any more)
    • Roxio Toast™ - I like (I got, I use - rather often)
    • Compressor - $50 from Apple
    • Free DVD Creator.app - free from Apple Store (very simple - Quality ?? not sure - looked problematic reg. Interlacing)
    • Burn - a free alternative from Internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
My old note on this - same same:
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.
    Free solutions:
Burn - a free alternative from Internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
Gives a fairly good resulting Video-DVD
Free DVD Creator.app - free from Apple Store
(very simple - Quality ?? not sure - looked problematic reg. Interlacing)
    Yours Bengt W

Kappy's Personal Suggestions About Mac Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility.  For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utility is: Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption. Drive Genius provides additional tools not found in Disk Warrior for defragmentation of older drives, disk repair, disk scans, formatting, partitioning, disk copy, and benchmarking.
Four outstanding sources of information on Mac maintenance are:
    1. OS X Maintenance - MacAttorney.
    2. Mac maintenance Quick Assist
    3. Maintaining Mac OS X
    4. Mac Maintenance Guide
    Periodic Maintenance
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) See Mac OS X- About background maintenance tasks. If you are running Leopard or later these tasks are run automatically, so there is no need to use any third-party software to force running these tasks.
If you are using a pre-Leopard version of OS X, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced after Tiger.  (These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion and should not be installed.)
    Defragmentation
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive except when trying to install Boot Camp on a fragmented drive. Malware Protection
As for malware protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. Starting with Lion, Apple has included built-in malware protection that is automatically updated as necessary. To assure proper protection, update your system software when Apple releases new OS X updates for your computer.
    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Protection:
    1. Mac Malware Guide.
    2. Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware
    3. Macintosh Virus Guide
For general anti-virus protection I recommend only using ClamXav, but it is not necessary if you are keeping your computer's operating system software up to date. You should avoid any other third-party software advertised as providing anti-malware/virus protection. They are not required and could cause the performance of your computer to drop.
    Cache Clearing
I recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, Mountain Lion Cache Cleaner 7.0.9, Maintenance 1.6.8, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc. Corrupted cache files can cause slowness, kernel panics, and other issues. Although this is not a frequent nor a recurring problem, when it does happen there are tools such as those above to fix the problem.
If you are using Snow Leopard or earlier, then for emergency cleaning install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. (AppleJack works with Snow Leopard or earlier.)
    Installing System Updates or Upgrades
Repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand.
Update your backups in case an update goes bad.
    Backup and Restore
Having a backup and restore strategy is one of the most important things you can do to maintain your computer. Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. You can never have too many backups. Don't rely on just one. Make several using different backup utilities. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
         1. Carbon Copy Cloner
         2. Get Backup
         3. Deja Vu
         4. SuperDuper!
         5. Synk Pro
         6. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance and backup and restore.
Always have a current backup before performing any system updates or upgrades.
    Final Suggestions
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity or 20 GBs, whichever is greater, as free space. Avoid installing utilities that rely on Haxies, SIMBL, or that alter the OS appearance, add features you will rarely if ever need, etc. The more extras you install the greater the probability of having problems. If you install software be sure you know how to uninstall it. Avoid installing multiple new software at the same time. Install one at a time and use it for a while to be sure it's compatible.

  • Help me set up my ATV with Samsung Home theater (No HDMI in)

    Hey all,
I have a TV with one HDMI in. My home theater receiver has an HDMI out and no HDMI ins. My apple TV HDMI out to the TV HDMI in works perfectly, but obviously I want to use my surround sounds/theater. I do have an optical cable, and my receiver has an optical jack.

  • Sending sound from my TV into my Samsung Home Theater

    Hi all -
I bought a Samsung HT-Z420 Home theater speaker system and I can't figure out how to get the sound from regular cable tv through the speakers.
My TV has a audio out, so I plugged in the red and white cables and then connected to the AUX in the home theater box, but that doesn't work...
Is it possible to use my speakers from watching cable TV?
    Thanks in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

well, i don't have a cable box.  it's just the audio outputs on the TV.  its an older sony.  not high def, flat screen or anything like that.
the dvd/hometheater system doesn't seem to have an audio input.  only a 'digital audio in'  does this mean my tv is too old to work with this?  my TV only has the red and white cable plugs.
other plug on the home theater are AUX2 in, and component out.  the AUX2 in are the red and white plugs, so i just plugged the IN there and hoped for the best, which of course didn't work out.

  • New FireWire DVD Burner Plugged In - DVD Player Wants To Change Region?!

I have just bought an external Freecom FW/USB 2.0 DVD Burner.
As part of my testing, I inserted a DVD-R video I had made and attempted to view it via DVD Player.
However, I got a warning window saying that as this was the first time I had played a DVD I would have to set the region.
This DVD is a home-movie and as such has no region.
Needless to say, the DVD plays perfectly when using the Superdrive.
If I did set the region would it only apply to the Freecom or would it be one of the 5 changes you are able to make to the Superdrive?
Is every DVD burner allowed 5 changes of region?
I have not attempted to change the region as normally I will not be using the Freecom to play DVDs . . . . . just burning and copying.
What exactly does changing the region affect? The DVD Burner, my iMac, DVD Player or what?

    Hi Ian,
most if not all computer DVD drives allow up to 5 changes of the region code with the 5th being the last and permanent one.
The region code itself is saved inside the drive itself and each drive is 'for it's own'.

  • Using dual display with DVD Player

I like to use the dual screen mode in my lectures using Keynote. Occasionally, I like to include a short DVD in my lectures. Is there a way to set DVD Player so that it plays in the dual screen mode so that I don't have to switch to the mirror screen mode?

Hi....I have a similar question regarding using DVD Player with an external monitor. I have my MPB connected to a Samsung monitor and everything seems to work well. I like to use my external monitor to watch DVDs in full screen mode, but I would like to be able to use my laptop's screen to browse the internet and type documents while keeping the DVD Player program in full screen mode on my Samsung monitor; however, whenever I click on my laptop screen while DVD Player is operating in full screen mode it exits full screen mode. Is there any way to keep DVD Player in full screen mode on my Samsung monitor while using my laptop's display for internet browsing, typing documents, etc...? Thanks for any help.

  • 5.1 Surround Sound through Samsung Home Theater via HDMI?

    Home Theater spec:  Samsung HT-C6600
Following the advice of my new Home Theater users' manual, I connected my FIOS HD STB the following way, using HDMI cables throughout:
HD STB > Home Theater HDMI input > TV HDMI input
The home theater has a bluray player built-in and the 5.1surround sounds great coming from the bluray.
However, when I watch TV, the sound only seems to be coming from the front speaker.
The settings on FIOS say that its giving surround sound.
Any advice on what could be going wrong?
    Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It seems basic, but are the channels you are watching broadcasting in Dolby Digital 5.1? Not all of them do, and some only do it some of the time. My receiver can be set to automatically select Pro Logic II or DTS-NEO, which matrix stereo sound to 5.1, if the channel is not producing 5.1. I don't know if your system can do that.

  • Burning photos compatible with DVD player

I want to create a DVD (or CD) with titled photos, i.e. an album. How do I export photos to a disc that can be read on a standard DVD player so they can been shown on a TV set? My IPhoto instructions sas the burning feature in iPhoto isn't compatible with Windows, which may be why such a disc won't work on my DVD player. I've tried moving an entire album as pdf but the titles with the photos disappear. Also, does DVD vs. CD make any difference? Thanks for any help!

    James,
In order to have a true manual slideshow in iDVD, you can't select any music to be played with the slides. If you have assigned music to the slideshow, drag it out of the box beside the Slideshow Volume until it goes "poof." Then when you click on the Slide Duration menu (lower left) the "Manual" option will be active, and you can select it. Also click the Settings gear and select the option to "Display navigation arrows." When you Play the slideshow in iDVD, you have to use the little remote control (right arrow) to advance the slides; clicking the onscreen navigation arrow won't do it.
If you wanted music, you can have the navigation arrows displayed and set the duration to 10 seconds (the longest choice). Or set a long playlist as the music and set duration to "Fit to Audio". However, this is problematic, because when the viewer advances the slide the music skips forward to match. It might be okay if the viewer only advanced one or two, but for a true manual show the interrupted music would be a major distraction.
    Regards.
