SAMSUNG MINI DV CAMCORDER NOT SEEN BY GIGABIT G4

I have two Macs (a 350Mhz Yikes! PCI Graphics with 512mb & a Dual 450MHz Gigabit Ethernet with 1.5GB). Both machines are running OS 10.2.8, and have iMovie 3 installed. I tried to connect my Samsung Mini DV (SC-D6550) to the DP G4 via Firewire...but in ASP it says "no firewire device found". I just happen to try & connect it to the PCI Graphics G4...and it worked fine! That's cool, but I really want to utilize the CPU speed & extra RAM of the DP G4 when working with video. Currently, or until I resolve this Firewire problem...I've networked the two G4's thru Ethernet, I capture using the slower G4 and then I move the video footage over to the DP G4 for editing. It works this way....but it's a bit of a hassle.

My guess is a bad firewire port. I highly doubt permissions or pram is the issue.
Make sure the camera is off, and whatever you are using to edit is closed (imovie, final cut). Plug the cable in, then turn the editing software on. If that doesn't work, it sounds like your port is bad. Try with another port, or try to hook up a known good device. If you can confirm that the port is good, repost here any more details you can think of.

  • Connecting MacBook to Samsung Mini DV Camcorder

I have a MacBook and I would like to get my videos from a samsung mini DV camcorder. How can I do this?  I don't have firewire port on MacBook.  I tried buying a firewire with USB end and it does not work.  Please help.

Sadly you need a MacBook that has Firewire.  USB 2 camcorders exist, but all of them compress video before sending it via USB.  The newest MacBook Airs and Pros are compatible with Thunderbolt which can be converted to USB 3 which doesn't have the capacity of bandwidth issue, but can interfere with WiFi.   Firewire and Thunderbolt are far better standards to deal with.
And there is no way to directly convert a Firewire to USB signal or vice versa.
If your mini-DV camcorder records to media directly on the Camcorder such as mini-DV discs. http://www.macsales.com/ offers tray loading DVD drives that may be able to read those discs.

  • Samsung Mini-DV Camcorder And iChat AV

I have a samsung SCD103 Mini-DV Camcorder and I was wondering, is it possable to use the USB Steam function on Tiger with iChat AV? I want to be able to video chat with my friends. But I don't know it it would work. Would it?

I need some kind of USB stream, becasue if i'm in firewire mode, it is recording to my computer...
Have you actually tried it on a Mac? Your Mac won't record anything unless you open an application, like iMovie, and tell it to start recording.
Perhaps you should post your question in the iChat AV forum since your question is not, technically, related directly to a Mac mini? There are quite a few people in there who may have a suggestion for you.

  • Ipod mini 1st Gen not seen by iMac or iTunes

    Hi,
I've looked through the other threats and reviewed and checked the advise given such as check the USB port; Done - iPhone & iPad work fine with th same port and cable. the iPod mini just flashes 'Do not disconnect' its fully charged and plays my music fine through a number of devices.
I cannot get the iPod mini to be seen by the iMac on 10.7.2 or on iTunes 10. I dont have access to a firewire cable and reluctanted to buy one on the chance that may not work either.
First question is the iPod mini on version 1.4.1 able to link with iMac and iTunes 10 and if so how? Thanks
    Stephen

I'm having the exact same problem, have tried everything listed on this page and the device manager steps. Nothing extra comes up when I click on "show hidden devices" the exact same listings are still there. And there is nothing indicating an ipod mini in the USB section in device manager or "unknown device" or anything.
The other user said "thank you yes have tried this and message is as follows: windows cannot start this device because its configuration information (in registry) is incomplete or damaged (code19)" - but nothing like that is coming up on mine. None of the R's make anything different. Am I doing something wrong? Can anyone give me a hand?

  • Early 2011 MB Pro i7 quad | DV camcorder not seen by firewire

OSX Mountain Lion. Sony DCR TRV19 camcorder. Camcorder screen says
DV In when each end of the FW 800 9 to 4 pin cable is connected. In
System information under Firewire all it says is:
    Firewire Bus:
Maximum Speed:          Up to 800 Mb/sec
It does not mention Sony Composite Device like it probably should
Neither iMovie or Quicktime see the camcorder, only the built in camera. I have
tried to turn the camcorder on in play mode while iMove or Quicktime are already
running, still doesn't see the camcorder. The person I purchased this camcorder
states he recently used it with iMovie on his mac. I have read plenty of problems
with firewire and DV connections so it must not be just me. And if anyone can
offer a solution I would be forever in their debt.

    Reset NVRAM/PRAM. Twice. Instructions to
do that were hold P-R-OPT-COMMAND and
press power. Continue until the unit toned twice
and entered startup. Still does not see the DV
device. Using a USB cable, the bus does recognize
it as a Sony Composite device. And the DV device
works properly on Windows 7 and Sony Capture 9.0.
Maybe this is a bad cable? I doubt it but can't think
of much else. I remember in Linux there were several
things you had to do from a command line regarding
permissions for mounting and etc...I'd jump for joy if that
is all I had to do here.

  • Connecting a Samsun Mini DV Camcorder VP-D381

Hi there. I'm trying to capture footage from a Samsung Mini DV Camcorder Model VP-D381. I'm using Premiere Pro CS3. When I go into the capture window it says capture device offline. I'm using a IEEE 1394 Firewire connection on my Desktop PC, however when I plug both ends of the cable into the camera and the PC, my system (Windows XP) does not recognize the new hardware. Are there some drivers I need for my Firewire card? My camcorder did not come with any drivers and I cannot locate any online. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    This is highly contradictory.
the camera makes a noise to let me know it's connected. It's just the windows isn't recognizing that anything is plugged in.
Is it recognized or not, that is the question. DOES WINDOWS RECOGNIZE THE CAMERA? Whatever sounds the camera makes, whether it whistles, burps, cries or whatever is not relevant.

  • I captured from mini-dv camcorder to FCP7 using control from my computer and firewire. I cannot find the file or clips I transferred anywhere except for in Finder. How do I get the clips from Finder to FCP7. Also I did not see audio on the computer meters

I captured from mini-dv camcorder to FCP7 using control from my computer. I only find the capture clip in Finder. How do I get the clip in Finder to FCP7.
Also my audio in the capture was not showing up on my audio meters on my computer-is this normal. Thanks

you will not see the audio meters from within fcp move while capturing.
If you only see the captured clip in the finder, not within fcp, there's something wrong.  You might try deleting your fcp preferences

  • Connect Samsung VP-D101 camcorder using S-Video or mini-DV

    Hi everyone
I'd like to connect a friend's Samsung VP-D101 camcorder to my Mac Pro to transfer a video from my wedding.
There are two options: with and s-video cable or using a cable which I think is a mini-DV cable.
How do I go about doing this - do I need to buy a video card or something?
Thank you very much for any insight
    /p

    Hi pullman,
all the graphics cards in Mac Pros don't have the feature of a Video-In but only Video-Out.
However I did find that the Samsung camcorder has a Firewire -IEEE1394 - iLink port.
So an appropriate FireWire cable, most likely with a 4-pin on the camcorder side and a 6-pin on the Mac Pro side, should be sufficient to get the video/movie into your Mac Pro.
    Regards

  • HT2188 I just got an iPad mini, when I try to upload my iPhone backup from my Mac i get the message to upgrade my iTunes. I can not seen to find where the download link is for iPads on apple website. Can anyone help?

I just got an iPad mini, when I try to upload my iPhone backup from my Mac i get the message to upgrade my iTunes. I can not seen to find where the download link is for iPads on apple website. Can anyone help?

The message is referring to iTunes on your computer, not the iPad : http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
The built-in apps on the iPad can only be updated via iOS updates, so if your iPad mini is on iOS 6.0.2 then its up-to-date

instead of doing a restore, go to Disk Utility, have your iPod in disk mode and plug it with your Mac, go to Tab "Partition" and click "Partition", go back "erase" and click "Erase". Eject your iPod and do a Reset, open the iPod updater and click "restore"

i can take this camcorder back to the store and exchange for other model , BUT ANY SUGGESTION ? i don't need HD or high standard cam but only use it for fun .
    please help .
    regards
    david

Your best bet is to take it back and get a supported camera. Here is a list of supported cameras.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1014
I really like the SDHC Card format. I am using the Panasonic HDC-SD5 and I like it a lot. I have both 8GB and 4GB cards. The 8GB card holds about 1 1/2 hours of footage at 1080i. I can hook the camera up via USB and it imports great. But I never do that anymore because it is easier to insert the SD card into an SD Card Reader and import from there.

  • Premiere CS5 (win7 x64) won't recognize my Mini-DV camcorder.

    I have Premiere Pro CS5 installed on a Windows 7  64-bit system.
When I try to Capture, I keep getting the error message:  "Can't Activate Recorder. Try Resetting Camera."
the whole set-up worked fine on my XP system with Premiere Pro 1.5.
    Extra info:
The Mini-DV camcorder is a Panasonic NV-DS33   (but personally I think it has nothing to do with my camera because I have seen so many threads online regarding this issue and no-one has any decent answer!)
the firewire cable is fine because it works on my old XP computer.
in premiere, if I change the camera to an HDV, then suddenly I can CONTROL the camera, but I can't capture)
Windows 7 (x64 bit) recognizes the Camcorder in the Device Manager (and says it is working properly).
I have tried several other DV capturing softwares (Stoik, Scenalyzer, WinDv). I have even tried my old Premiere Pro 1.5 on my 64-bit system.. and NONE OF IT WILL CAPTURE MY CAMCORDER!
This is very frustrating. I need my new win7 (x64) Premiere CS5 to capture successfully. I have spent a LOT of money on this new system. What on earth is the problem?
(i saw one thread on a similar issue regarding a 32-bit installation of Win 7, and it is marked as ANSWERED! but in my opinion, (from the amount of forums on many other sites) this issue is definitely not fixed.
is there any update to Premiere CS5? or a workaround? or anything else I should know?
PS: it is not an option for me to keep using my old computer to Capture video and then transfer it to my new system. i am passing my old system on to another person.
    many thanks
    Marc

I agree that the "Legacy" FW driver solution should be a stickie, or FAQ. Since Win7-64 was released, it has caused no end to the grief. Maybe Jeff, or Todd will have a better solution to getting the word out.
It was Harm Millaard, who brought that to MY attention, and he's posted it to many, many threads. In nearly every case, it's solved the issue.
Good luck, and thanks for reporting Colin's success,
    Hunt
PS - per your suggestion, I just published this "fix" in the Tips & Tricks sub-forum for PrElements.
