Samsung RAM for MacPro 2008 Earlier Edition

Hello. I am trying to decide between RAM from Samsung or Crucial. Which one is better for the MacPro? I read that RAM from Crucial can achieve quad channel performance. How about RAM from Samsung?

Any make of FBDIMMs installed correctly will provide proper memory performance and bandwidth.
Take a look at TechWorks brand from OWC.

  • 8 vcpu for Windows 2008 Standard Edition Guest

    Hi,
Due to a software requirement, I'm investigating the possibility of creating an 8 vcpu Windows 2008 Standard Edition 64-bit guest.
In Vsphere, its possible to create an 8 vcpu windows 2008 Standard Edition guest by configuring the "cpuid.coresPerSocket" parameter to 2, which allows the Standard Edition windows license to see 8 cores without violating the standard licensing which caps it at 4 processors.
Is there a similar functionality in Oracle VM Server?
    Thanks.

    Hi Simon,
Read that link you sent and I believe it allows us to play around with cpu cores in Windows Standard Editions in virtual environments.
"Software run in a virtual OSE is licensed based on the number of virtual processors used by that virtual OSE. If the physical processors in the server have two cores, each virtual processor also has two cores from a licensing perspective."
So its up to us to configure the cores as it defaults to single core for each vcpu.
I've tested in vsphere using 4 vcpus and setting it for 2 cores each. The OS sees only 2 processors but I've got 4 threads in task manager. If I revert to 4 single core vcpus, the OS sees 4 processors.
I'm trying to see if I can do the same in Oracle VM and am trying to understand the cpuid setting in the vm.cfg. The examples given in xmexample.hvm-stubdom are for Intel 8 core and AMD 5 core but all I have is AMD dual core.
So trying to figure out how to set it correctly in my situation. Haven't found any detailed documentation for configuring those ebx, ecx, edx settings.

Hello guys, I wonder what the best brand of ram for mac and where can I buy. I'm from Portugal and liked to buy online. Can someone help me.

  • 8GB of ram for late 2008 Macbook

Offically it can't be done. In the realworld I've hear it can.
How, from where and at what cost? I'm in the UK and I've already trield Crucial UK.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you very much.

Spoke to Crucial UK last week. This is what they had to say about exeeding Apple's rmaximum reccomended ram upgeades. Note - this relates to a late 2008 aliminum Macbook.
"I really do not recommend exceeding 4GB...we test the machines in our labs for the maximum capacity it can take, and in numerous cases APPLE recommends a certain capacity and we find that the machine can take more, so we type our figure, as of this I strongly recommend that you stick to the 4GB recommended by us as we’ve tested the machine and that’s as much as it can take.
If you want to take your chances with 8GB kit ( 2 x 4GB ) modules, then you will find it on this link'
    What do you think?
What are the risks of going over?
    Thank you.

  • Replacement Graphics Card for Macpro 2008 with HDMI ports

    I have a Mac Pro 3,1 (2008) 2 x 2.8 Quad core with ATI Radeon 2600 XT Dual DVI.
I would like to replace this Card with something that has at least 1 HDMI out port that supports audio. I want to be able to use download/ iview features to watch TV shows on my HD LCD TV but sourced by the Macs browser.
The Current card only has DVI ports and does not support any audio so when connected to the TV I get picture, but no sound. Not Ideal !
I see that the cards on the Apple store don't have HDMI out.
looking for lots of ideas and experiences.

I see that the cards on the Apple store don't have HDMI out.
The apple 5x70's have 2 mini-displayports and a dual link dvi port.  The 5770 requires one aux power cable and the 5870 requires two.
You can get just as good as the name brands but much cheaper priced adapters and cables through monoprice.com.  For example, the mini-displayport to HDMI adapter:
Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt® to HDMI® Adapter w/ Audio Support
There are many people who have put a 5770 into a 2008 mac pro.  Here's a google search of "5770 in a 2008 mac pro" which shows many discussions of this and even a video.
There's also some discussions on this in these forums as indicated by the More Like This section on the right side of this page.

  • RAM for iBook G4 (early 2004) - PC2100 or PC2700??

    Hi,
    i want to add 1GB RAM in my iBook G4 (early 2004) 1.2GHz 14''.
Which i found out can handle PC2100 (and is PC2700 compatible) according to this doc.
Which one you recommend, PC2100 or PC2700? Any diference?
So can i buy any RAM with the following specification?
    1GB RAM PC2700 (or PC2100) - DDR 333 SO-DIMM - 200pin
    thanks in advance
    iBook G4 1.2GHz 14'' (early 2004)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   256RAM - 60 GB

    Hi,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
Both will work. There's no advantage to using PC2700 as it will run at PC2100 speed. Go with the least expensive of the two.

  • "Low heat" & Samsung ram?

I’m looking to buy more memory for an iMac G4 1.25 GHz.
This site gives me the option of having “low heat” ram, or low heat Samsung ram for ~$30 more. What’s the difference?
    http://www.oempcworld.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=PC270 0-SODIMM

From what I read, when I bought Apple-certified Samsung RAM for my iBook
1.33 G4, which coincidentally also runs in the user accessible slot in the iMac
G4 1.25, I figured the odds were more than good this product was the best.
I figured if adding a cool running RAM chip did save a few degrees of heat,
that would be a good thing over the life of the product. The fan seldom runs.
In my iBook, this gives me 1.5GB of RAM; adding a PC2700/333 Samsung 1024MB.
And the low-profile 512MB chip in my iMac G4 is interchangeable. More RAM is good.
Best quality is better than just having more; especially when the factory inside slot is
    upgraded. {That can cost more than the difference, when the new RAM is bad, in there.}
Of course, that chip is a standard 184-pin and not a 200-pin laptop chip.
And the price now (at OEMPC World) is lower than what I'd paid, including mail order to
here, so it is a fair price, compared to about $112, I paid over a year ago. Still it's a bargain.
Looks like the same RAM I bought (in iBookG4.) If you happen to go into the iMac G4
to replace the battery or other stuff, that's a time to upgrade the inside RAM to 1GB.
You can use the next higher spec RAM in there, but it will show only as a PC2700/333.

  • Samsun Ram for Macbook

    Hi
I've just bought 2GB of Samsung Ram for my Macbook and all sorts of funny things happen - not least it restarts itself, crashes and when in Windows 'streaks' fly across the screen from time to time!! Reinstalled old Ram fine - then reinstaleld new Ram -same things happening! So obviously looks like dodgy Ram!
Question then has anybody else found this with Samsung? And is there something am I missing after installing it ie like repairing permissions (done it anyway) etc?
So if you are in the look out for new Ram - Beware of Samsung - unless I have in fact not done something correctly!
    Thanks

You need to call the company you purchased the memory from and get replacements. They may ask you to run some tests, but that is only fair as they will want to make sure it is really bad.
I have purchased memory directly from Crucial and had good experiences. I have also had bad RAM from them. Made the phone call and got the memory replaced. I have purchased memory from OWC and have had good experiences and have had a bad module. Again, a phone call solved everything.

  • 1. Will CAL Licenses works if i use Windows Server 2012? 2. What GB of RAM can be used with Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition?

I have been using Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition for my business purpose and there are at-least 30 Users who logged in into the server Via Remotely from different location. I want to upgrade my server with latest one with some extra cores and RAM for
better and smooth operations for all users. So, i have a doubt whether my CAL Licenses will works with Windows Server 2012 or i need to purchase the new one for the same?
Moreover, if i don't upgrade my Windows to any 2012 edition and stay on 2008 Standard Edition how much maximum RAM can be installed at a time? is there any limitations? if Yes, please let me know how do i upgrade my Windows 2008 Standard Edition to any other
business edition to avoid such limitations of RAM?
Waiting for your favorable and quick response.

    Hi again,
th eupgrade optiuon from Standard 2008 to Enterprise 2008 was only available for customers with open value contract with activ esoftware assurance then they can purchase the step up license from Standard to Enterprise.
the only way to have the Enterprise 2008 Edition is to make th edowngrad efrom 2012 Standard to 2008 Enterprise. it means that if you purchase the 2012 R2 Standard Edition, you may downgarde to Enterprise 2008/2008 R2. th ebest way to make the downgrade
to 2008 R2 Enterprise is to purchase the current Version 2012 R2 Standard in volume licensing than you can download diretly from VLSC the Enterprise Edition.
with your downgrade you can still using the 2008 CALs.
    thanks

There is always a limit. The details here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa366778%28v=vs.85%29.aspx#physical_memory_limits_windows_server_2008
In the article you will find the limitations for other Windows OSs too.

  • Airport Wireless card for MacPro April 2008 FA970LL/A

I see from another post that part # MB363Z/A works for MacPro January 2008, but I just wanted to know if anyone out there has installed this part in a 2008 MacPro FA970LL/A (spring)

Ok so I am having a conversation all by myself lol! Seriously I called a Mac Genius and he told me that the part number is MB988Z/A which is the same airport part number for the 2009 MacPro's! Now if you find this part number it will state that it only works with 2009 MacPro's and not earlier Mac's!
Apple should really get it's story straight! Heck, I am not trying to replace an engine in a Ferrari!

  • Which new inkjet printer for my iMac early 2008?

I need a new inkjet printer for my iMac early 2008 (until now I use an old Epson Stylus Photo 1200 which now is going to its end of life).
Which printer would you choose, especially for photo prints?
    Thanks for your answers! :-)

I should have mentioned that I may have the same computer you have  - a late (December) 2007 iMac.  I continue to run 10.4.11 Tiger because of some antiquated software I use that is not compatible with later operating systems.  An additional thing I like about the Canon is its five individual ink tanks.  When one color runs out, I just change out that one cartridge and keep going.

  • Max ram for 2.4ghz 2008 model intel imac 24"?

      Hi.
Im trying to get the max ammount of ram in my imac 24" 2008 model aluminum body i believe. it has 2.4ghz intel core 2 duo. and its running mac os x 10.5.8
I want to get the highest ammount of ram my machine can handle. I know apple says 4gb is max, but im wondering if anyone has put in 8gb and it works?
also could you tell me what the ram is called exactly so I can type it in to amazon and find the correct kind. Please help me on this issue! I want the MAXIMUM ram for my imac!!! Thanks all!
Also, would it be worth upgraded to snow leopard? Im new to macs and dont know if that would make a difference? Give me your opinions on this and I'll do as you say for you are more knowledgable then I at macs! thanks again.
And what all can I download for my machine in terms of operating systems to make it the most current my machine can run at? can I install lion after leopard on my machine?

The maximum you can put in is 6GB, that is all that machine can address. WWW.MacSales.com (OWC) makes a 6GB kit and I'd recommend purchasing from them. Your machine could be a late 2007 or mid (began shipping in April) 2008. You will need to check the specifications which you can find in your owners manual or click Support in the upper right of this page then click Tech Specs. OWC is the only vendor I know that makes a 6GB kit however if you have the correct specs you can make your own, a 1x2GB DIMM and a 1X4GB DIMM. You don't mention where on the planet you're located, OWC is a US company but will ship overseas.

  • Upgrading from SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition [ENU] to SQL Server 2008 Express Edition OR HIGHER for Microsoft Security Compliance Manager

I have downloaded the MS Security Compliance Manager, which is in two parts:  MS SQL Server 2008 Express Edition & the SCM. The install instructions state the the server needs to be install before the SCM.  So as the install continues I get
an error message, which cancels the installation.  So, I am trying to install SQL 2008 EE separate from SCM.  My question is:
Can I upgrade from my current SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition [ENU]
directly to SQL Server 2008 Express Edition (or higher)?

So as the install continues I get an error message, which cancels the installation.
And which error message did you got?
SQL Server Compact Edition is something different then SQL Server Express (or Standard) Edition, you can't upgrade it as you asked for,.
