Samsung SATAII drive for G5 dual 1.8 ?

Hi there,
I have read that there are some compatibility issues with some SATA II drives and the early or mid production G5's, and I am now about to order a Samsung SP T166 - 500 GB SATA II (which has a jumper to restrict it to 150 Mbps instead of full 300) to be installed as second drive in a G5 dual 1.8GHz. Is there any experience that would tell me not to go that route?
Cheers

Phil, I believe that drive will work. To be safe check XLR8's drive compatibility database here

  • Vi driver for Varian Dual HV power supply

hi, I'm looking for a driver for the Varian Dual and/or Multivac HV power supply.
if anybody has it, please let me know...
    thank you
    Andrea Milocco

    Hi Andrea,
unluckily the instrument driver for your Power Supply is not available on NI site.
You can try to search the driver at link: Search Instrument Driver
Otherwise you could ask information about driver directly to the instrument constructor.
But if you know the commands to talk with instrument and if you are using Labview or Measurement Studio or LabWindows/CVI 7.x you can easily create the communication with the Power Supply through the Instrument Assistant.
    Regards.

  • Advice on hard drives for a dual 2.5 G5. External/Internal, USB/Firewire ?

    Hey guys-
I'm using my G5 as my main computer in a home based recording studio and I'm running out of drive space. I currently have the 2 internal drives: MAIN 160 GB (13GB available) & 300 GB (9 GB available) and one USB external 500 GB with 12GB
available. I know I'm dangerously low on all of them so my question is: what would be the best way to add more space? I'm really concerned on how fast my programs can access the data since I run a lot of instruments and audio samples.
    Should I:
Buy one large internal drive (1.5TB) and use it as my main drive with the others as back-ups? If so which ones do you recommend?
Buy an external drive (1.5tb) in either Firewire or USB? I know Firewire is faster but does it matter when it comes to most applications?
Also, if I go with one large HD either way, would I lose any advantages over say several smaller ones?
Finally, how is the best way to replace your main drive with a larger one without having to re-install everything all over again?
Thanks SO much for the help:)

    Hi-
The best thing that you could do for performance AND space, would be to replace both internal hard drives.
Install a WD6400AAKS 640GB as boot drive, and have one of the fastest, cool and quiet, 7200 RPM all around performing drives to run system and apps.
Install a WD1001FALS 1TB Black as the second data/scratch drive for loads of space, high performance and reliability.
Then, to back it all up, add at least another 1TB firewire drive.
USB isn't as reliable of an interface as firewire, nor is it as fast (overall).
    Stick with firewire.
To keep from reinstalling everything, take out the 300GB drive, and install the 640GB (or whatever new boot) drive.
Use Disk Utility to format the new hard drive.
After formatting, use SuperDuper! to clone the 160GB drive to the new drive.
    http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html
Once the cloning is complete, open System Preferences/Startup Disk, select the new drive as startup drive, and reboot.
After checking the clone for proper operation (all applications open, Mail works, etc.) remove the 160GB drive and install the new drive in it's slot.
Install the 1TB drive (or whatever) in slot 2, format it, and you are all done.

  • External Hard Drive for my G4?

    Hi --
I'm looking for an external hard drive for my Dual 450 MHz PowerPC G4 but I'm not sure about a couple of things: My machine's older (built in 2001 or so), running OS 10.4.6. Here are a couple more details:
    Machine model: PowerMac 3,3
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (2.9)
L2 Cache per CPU: 1 MB
    Memory: 384 MB
    Bus Speed: 100 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 3.3.1f1
(For what its worth - serial number SBO322XKJ3C)
I'd like to buy a LaCie "Rugged All-Terrain Hard Drive" (80GB, 5400 rpm) but don't know if my machine has FireWire 800, FireWire 400, or USB 2.0 connectivity.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

    Hi, Laura -
    Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
Your G4 dual 450MHz Mac is a Gigabit Ethernet model. There is a bunch of info about it available on this page at apple-history.com.
    Re your specific questions -
Firewire - the built-in firewire on that model is FW400.
USB - the built-in USB on that model is USB 1.1.
Many, if not most, USB 2.0 devices are backward compatible with USB 1.1, but will operate at USB 1.1 speed.
You can add a PCI card to get USB 2.0; not sure if such a card is available for FW800.
Even with an added USB 2.0 card, USB 2.0 would be usable only when booted to OSX; OS 9 does not support USB 2.0.
According to the info you provided, "Boot ROM Version: 3.3.1f1" indicates the firmware on that machine is 3.3.1. It would be a good idea to update it at some point; the current version for that model is v. 4.2.8. You can download the 4.2.8 firmware updater from this page -
    Article #120068 - G4 Firmware Update 4.2.8
Note - in order to install that firmware update, the machine must be booted to OS 9 from a writeable local drive (this usually means the internal hard drive), and the firmware updater must be run from the same drive.
You may also find that increasing the installed RAM will increase the machine's response and smooth it a bit. According to the info you provided, it has 384MB RAM in it now. That model has a max capacity of 2.0GB RAM, more than four times what is now in it. If it were my machine, I'd add at least one 512MB module (that's the largest module it can use).

  • Internal Hard Drives for 2003 PowerMac G5 Dual 2.0

    I have a PowerMac G5 Dual 2.0. Specifications are here: http://support.apple.com/specs/powermac/PowerMacG5.html
It was purchased in October 2003.
The manual says the computer needs drives with blade-type connectors to attach the power and data cables.
Does anyone know of specific drives and their model numbers that will work? I'm thinking of putting into two 300GB drives I could configure as RAID 0 (I have external drives for backups).
    Thanks,
    -Karen

Go to this link & look at these drives: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Category=15&Brand=1077&N=201015001 41035915133+10353011350001077&Submit=ENE&Manufactory=1077&SubCategory=14 I have 2 of the 500 GB ones in my 2.0 DC G5 & they work great. They are extremely quiet, the price is excellent, & they have a 3 year warranty from Samsung.

  • Driver for Samsung ML-1675 OSX 10.9.1

Hi, can anyone write me where I can found the driver for the printer Samsung ML 1675 to use with my new MacBook withe OSX 10.9.1?

According to this, that printer is not supported by a built-in OS X 10.9 driver.

Ask Samsung if they have one.

  • Unable to locate a printer driver for a Samsung ML-2165 mono laser on OSX5.8 despite installing software successfully. Any ideas?

I've installed successfully from disc (and removed it manually and reinstalled and restarted and unplugged etc). The iBook G4 sees the printer but the dialogue tells me there is no appropriate printer driver and to select one.  The only Samsung ones that appear are Guttenberg ones for different models. The Samsung folder appears in the Library/Printers folder. I have also downloaded Mac drivers from Samsung's website they unzip to folders 10.4, 10.5 and 10.6. The 10.5 one includes
    file://localhost/10.5/autosetupinfo.plist
    file://localhost/10.5/Command%20File%20Filter/
    file://localhost/10.5/Filter-%20SPL/
    file://localhost/10.5/ML-2160.icns
    file://localhost/10.5/PDE/
    file://localhost/10.5/PPD/
    file://localhost/10.5/SCMS/
    file://localhost/10.5/statusDesc.plist
    file://localhost/10.5/Utilities/
I've put the folders in the printers folder - no change, I don't think anything has installed itself. There is certainly no installer automatically opening. What to do next?
Samsung have sent me a standard Microsoft reply..... Hope someone can advise.

Thank you very much for your clear advice which ought to work.
Unfortunately none of this seems to work and is what I have already tried. This is a new printer - I have installed the software from the CD to no avail - I can select the printer but am told I have to download software..
I have manually deleted software.  Then, I have downloaded the Mac software from the UK and the italian websites. The printer is found in the menu but again it says there is no suitable software. When browing under the 'other' heading the contents of the downloaded folder are greyed out and can't be installed. It appears the Samsung printer driver is not making itself available to the Print and Fax selector.
It does make me wonder whether I have accidentally removed a vital piece of software - having removed most of the printer drivers a while ago to save disc space.

It says it's for 10.2.4 or later or 10.4 (Huh?) but I just tried it and it worked.
I printed through an Airport Extreme Base Station, but I imagine it should work via USB (or ethernet).

  • Blue tooth driver for windows 7 for samsung galaxy s5

I was told by Samsung that they don't provide the blue tooth driver for Windows 7 for their Galaxy S5 cellphone. They said that the maker of the PC is responsible for that. I don't see any drivers for blue tooth devices of any kind being provided by HP, so I'm thinking that what the Samsung rep can't be correct. Nonetheless, I'm posting this post in hopes someone may know if there 1. is a driver and 2. where to get it. I have a HP Media Center m7050y (PX153AV) CTO Desktop PC that is running Windows 7 Ultimate. I of course have a blue tooth doggle in one of my USB ports and it is working correctly. I know this because I have other blue tooth devices running. Any help will be appreciated.
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
You have a functioning  blue tooth dongle.
Other blue tooth devices are working correctly.
Samsung would have to provide blue tooth driver support. Or contact the blue tooth dongle manufacturer for assistance.
Your HP PC shipped with Win XP. Blue tooth driver support/ hardware was not available when your PC was manufactured.

by looking at the specs the laptop is better but if your not a gamer or graphics designer  then you most likly wont notice a difference in the performance at all so with that said a few downsides
the processor is i5 the i7 processor is the better processor the graphics card has half the dedicated memory that the laptop has and the hdd compared to the solid state is not much of a difference unless you wanna move your computer all the time you wont need a solid state drive
but like i said before if your not a gamer or graphics designer on your computer you will not notice the difference most likely

I don't believe that Samsung ever made a driver for this model that worked in intel. Unfortunately, I think your printer is just too old. You can read here

The hard drive for my MacBook Pro recently crashed.  I purchased and installed a new hard drive (i.e. a Samsung SSD).  When I try to re-install the Mac operating system, I come to the part of the installation instructions where you are asked to choose a disk to install the software.  However, there is no disk listed in the selection screen.  Why is there no disk in the selection screen?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You haven't formatted the SSD, so you can't install Mac OS X.
First, close the OS X installer and open Disk Utility. Then, choose the SSD at the top of the sidebar, go to Erase tab, choose "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" as "Format", and press Erase. Finally, close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X. See > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html
