Samsung SCX-4200, Print and Scanning now working in Snow Leopard 10.6

I found the printer can print right off the bat by selecting the SCX-4300 series driver after the auto-detect.
For scanning, install the Scan driver on this page:
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/supportDownloadCenter.do?prdia_cd=N0000191&prd_mdl_cd=SCX-4200%2FXAA&prd_mdlname=SCX-4200
You'll need to restart your Mac, but now it works perfectly

Hey all,
A quick follow-up to keep you up to date with regards to the repot above...Upon launching the Scanner service from within System Preferences > Print & Fax > "Open Scanner", in a working setup (i.e. upon a fresh system restart), the console presents the following:
20/4/11 3:15:07 PM          PrinterProxy[1162]          *** Assertion failure in -[NSMenu itemAtIndex:], /SourceCache/AppKit/AppKit-1038.35/Menus.subproj/NSMenu.m:779
20/4/11 3:15:07 PM          PrinterProxy[1162]          Invalid parameter not satisfying: (index >= 0) && (index < [_itemArray count])
This new clue along with all the previous console messages probably shout out the cause of the problem, but as I mentioned before I am unable to interpret any of it..Bring on the big guns...any UNIX/OSX masterchiefs around here?

Dimitris

  • Laser Printer with Scanning the works with Snow Leopard

Buying a new MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard, and trying to find a B&W laser printer three-in-one (with faxing if possible) and scanning with optical character recognition for $300 or less. I know there were problems with Twain drivers and scanning with Mac OS in the past and Read Iris, but maybe these problems have been fixed. Any recommendations or articles I can be referred to? I see a lot of posts from people regarding printers they are not happy with or have trouble with wireless printing, so I know which ones not to buy.

    Check Macworld for reviews.

Hi has anyone managed to get a Samsung scx-4200 printer working with a mac?
2011 driver was the last driver update for mac i hear, downloaded tried a couple but no luck!!!

okay, from what I've read, samsung driver support lies with Apple and not Samsung, so if you can, do a software update
you can try here, apparently, for something that sorta works with your printer

I have a canon multifunction printer that used to work with snow leopard but since I updated to mountain lion it stoped working. How do I make it work again?

This problem is not unheard of when upgrading from Snow Leopard. It is usually solved by completely deleting the existing printer in System Preferences > Print & Scan, and adding it again.

  • Address book and ical not working for snow leopard clients

We have upgraded our server to mountain lion from snow leopard.
At first glance all appears to have gone well, however, the ical and address book services don't appear to be working for snow leopard clients. These services DO appear to be working for lion clients.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

I am at work right now and don't have access to my Mac. But I need to as if your Dad is on Windows Active Directory network? I also found these directions for Princeton's 2010 Exchange that might help. Did he set up the Address contacts & iCal Calenders were enabled when setting up the account in Mail?

  • I get an error when I try to print after installing Lion - worked under Snow Leopard - /System/Library/Printers/Libraries/PrintJobMgr/Contents/MacOS/PrintJobMgr failed

I have not been able to print pictures nor any text since installing Lion.  I receive the message in the subject which is totally meaningless.

When you upgrade from a previous OS there is always a chance that you will bring some setting that is not compatible with the new OS. This can be the driver as noondaywitch suggests but it can also be the core printing system. In the case of the latter, it is a good idea to reset the printing system when a core error occurs. Note that the reset sets the printing system back to default and removes your currently installed printer and scanner queues. But it does not remove the supporting drivers, so you only need to install the driver again.
How to Reset the Printing System
    1. Open System Preferences > Print & Scan/Fax
    2. Move your mouse over the Printers list
    3. Hold down the Control button and click the mouse
    4. Click the "Reset printing system ..." popup
    5. Restart your Mac
Just one additional thing to note. In checking the supported printer list for 10.6 from Apple, your RC545 is not listed so running the Software Update will not provide you with a driver for this printer. So if Epson does not have a driver for 10.6, and it appears that Apple does not provide one, then what you have already from the previous installation is it. And if this doesn't work, then you may have to look at either an alternate driver or getting another printer. But let's wait and see what happens after the reset.

  • Printing Password NO LONGER WORKS with Snow Leopard!

Ive searched this forum and most people have the opposite problem I do. They want to disable password requests when printing, but I want them!
With Leopard, I was able to set up our networked color printer on every mac and students who logged in with their Active Directory accounts would then try to print but fail because they weren't part of the user group that were allowed to print to our color printer. When the password screen showed up, all I had to do was type in my account name and password, and the student's work would print. This was perfect for our lab set-up so we could supervise printing.
However, with Snow Leopard, this feature no longer works. The password box pops up but it doesnt matter what name/password is inputted, anything will print. By anyone. Yikes. My IT is not too happy and Im trying to find a way to fix this.
I saw Kiraly's tip on using Server Admin tools but it didnt work for us. Error 14071 something.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It could be falling back to Kerberos authentication, where passwords aren't needed every time. I'd suggest telling your IT people to disable kerberos on the Windows Server. If Windows is allowing users to access services with the wrong username and password, then that bug needs to be sent to Windows as a security vulnerability.
Otherwise, if they narrow it down to a problem on the Mac side, tell them to submit a bug to Apple.

  • Canon MP620 print driver does not work with Snow Leopard

Bought a Macbook & bundled Canon MP620 printer in Dec 08. Two days ago upgraded to Snow Leopard, and I can no longer print (the printer is not recognized), it only sees "Bonjour scanner" (the printer is a multi-function printer, copier, fax, scanner). Spent more than two hours with two different Apple tech support people over the phone; talked to Apple personnel in store. My printer is connected via Ethernet cable to a wireless modem, and I connect to the wireless modem via Airport. The phone tech person insisted that this printer is supported by Snow Leopard, but we reloaded the print driver from the Snow Leopard installation disk with no results. Finally my last resort, which worked, is to go to Radio Shack and get a cable that has a USB-A (printer) to USB-B (Mac) attachment. I was able to print. It is unacceptable for Apple to have this problem, as I went into the store four different times to discuss whether I should upgrade to Snow Leopard, and was told on every occasion that Snow Leopard will make everything run faster, more smoothy, etc. NOT! I want Apple to post a notice on their web site to a) confirm their print driver problems with Snow Leopard and b) to confirm WHEN new print drivers will be released.

Have a look at my last posting re Canon network printing.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2128186&tstart=0&messageID=100 97438#10097438
i got my MP980 working via Ethernet and wireless. The same procedure should work for your MP620.

  • Canon Printer CLC 3200 not working under Snow Leopard

After installing Snow Leopard printing on Canon CLC 3200 is no longer possible.
Even after updating to 10.6.1, reinstalling the printer and checking all TCP/IP settings, printing is still not possible. The contact to the printer is there, but the printer is stopped and cannot be activated.
Apple Support has no solution for it. You have to wait for an updated printer driver from Canon.
If you are working with Canon CLC3200 don't update your Mac to Snow Leopard!!!
    Best, Andrea

Here is a solution working for the Canon CLC 3200:
Chose LPD protocol and enter "print" for the queue name.
Worked for us – hope it does for you, too!

  • HTTPS sites and services not working on Snow Leopard 10.6.6

Hi guys, any assistance would be appreciated as I really don't want to reinstall everything again.
*Problem description:* After reinstalling Snow Leopard after some issues, I am unable to get any https services working (such as the online back up system Carbonite), nor access any https websites. My Macbook Pro and Windows Laptop on the same network have absolutely no issues with it. +Please also note that this problem is not limited to Safari, any software or browser that uses HTTPS to connect will not work.+
*Attempted fixes:* Repaired Permission errors, deleted keychain and security preferences, and manually configured the network connection. I have also checked to make sure the date/time are correct and created a new user which has also not helped.
*Recent changes:* My iMac refused to start up after permission errors so I was forced to reinstall Snow Leopard. I did a fresh install after formatting the drive.
    *Operating system:* Snow Leopard 10.6.6
    *System specs:* 2009 24" iMac

If I was there with you,
    As a "Best Practice"
#1- I would recommend that we make a FULL Bootable Backup of where you are, and confirm that it is bootable.
    Then
As another Best Practice you should always have on the ready any and all INSTALLERS of your programs, along with the corresponding serial numbers,
I feel that being PROACTIVE is a much place to be, then REACTIVE.
#2 - I would be inclined to do a overlaying install of Snow Leopard, What happens is it will install a new OS while preserving ALL other info/data, including your Applications, Users.
Please keep me posted as to your results,

  • Samsung SCX-4200 Scanning Problem

I have a Samsung SCX-4200 Printer/Scanner. I can print to it, but I can't my computer to recognize it as scanner. It used to work in Leopard, but now doesn't work in Snow Leopard.

I have managed to find a solution to scanning via my Samsung SCX-4826 multifunction. I plugged it in via usb directly to my Mac Pro, installed the printer and scan-thru software and expected it to just work. Printing worked the first time, however the scanning was tough. This is not the cleanest solution, but it works just fine for me. So I installed Acrobat Pro and use the Create PDF From Scanner command under File and it finds the scanner. Then it pops up the Samsung software and scans right into Acrobat. In order to scan another document, I need to quit Acrobat and restart the application for it to recognize the scanner again. If this is how it needs to work, fine with me.

  • Samsung SCX-4200 with Lion?

    Hi there,
has anyone had luck yet using an SCX-4200 Laser MFP for scanning on Mac OS X Lion?
Printing works, but the universal scan driver does not find my scanner...

If you want to use the Samsung SCX-4200 printer on OS X you will need to get the latest printer driver from samsung.
    http://www.samsung.de/de/support/detail.aspx?aguid=3c6280d5-8701-434a-a664-a28cb 5131a74&dl=driver
It would then be the first driver to use. For scanning it still does not work for me. Samsung only updated the page and states the drivers to be suitable for 10.3 to 10.7, but scanning is not available in LION ....

  • [Solved] Samsung SCX-4300 Printer Problem

Hi everyone. I installed Arch Linux today. Everything is fine except printer. I am using Samsung SCX-4300 printer and scanner. Scanner works fine but CUPS doesn't see the printer. I can't see anything on CUPS web interface's Local Printers area. Here is a screenshot.
I can see my printer in lsusb command:
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 062a:0201 Creative Labs Defender Office Keyboard (K7310) S Zodiak KM-9010

So why I can not see my printer and how can I fix that?
Last edited by DoGuKaN (2013-07-30 20:13:21)

I have a very similar printer (SCX-4500W) and found that I was able to get it working as a printer but that I could not get both print and scan functions to work at the same time.
In order to get the printer going I had to add a file to /etc/udev/rules.d/71-scx4500w.rules with the content as a single line:
    ATTR{idVendor}=="04e8", ATTR{idProduct}=="342b", MODE:="0664", GROUP:="lp", ENV{libsane_matched}:="yes"
You will need to change the idVendor and idProduct in the line above to match that for your own printer from the lsusb command instead of those above for the SCX-4500W.
I would also suggest that you use the splix drivers package - i.e. make sure that the splix package is installed with:
    # pacman -S splix
Then when you add the printer select the splix drivers which will work with that printer (you should check the splix support page to check your printer is supported but I am pretty sure it is)
Once that is done then you need to start the cups.socket daemon with the following command as root (exclude the # which is the prompt)
    # systemctl start cups.socket
and if it then works, and allows you to add the printer,  then you also need to "enable" the same daemon so that it starts after the next boot as well:
    # systemctl enable cups.socket
One other thing is that if you want your printer to be discoverable as a cups remote printer on your local network you will need avahi-daemon running on the server to which the printer is attached, as well as on any machine which needs to see it - check the arch wiki on how to set that up if you need it.
    I hope this helps.
