Samsung SCX-4500, Airport and 10.5.3?

Does this combo work for bonjour printing? I know there were troubles under 10.5.2.
Thanks,
Ken

I just bought a Samsung CX-3175 Multi function printer and the driver doesn't show up on my hard drive. Samsung says it's a Mac issue.
Since Apple sells Samsung printers on their web site, I figured there wouldn't be any compatibility issues. I'm wondering if this latest Airport update is responsible or whether it will be impossible to make it work with my Mac.
BTW, my Mac can't find the printer, even when connected via USB.

  • Samsung SCX 4500 and Airport Express incompatibility?

    Hi,
    I have bought the Samsung SCX 4500 printer two days ago...
    Since then I tried out to get the printer working properly with my Airport Express.
    Before I had a Canon IP 5300 and everything worked out great - no problems with printing.
    But so far I have only made the SCX 4500 print once with the Airport Express and this
    was right after I connected it via Bonjour to my Airport Express Printer Sharing...
    Afterwards the printer refused to print anything more.
    A scanner is part of the multifunction printer as well - the scanning is only support if you connect the printer via usb cable to the computer.
    But at least this fairly "handsome" printer should print wirelessly...
    If you have any suggestions how I can solve the problem, let me know...
    Cheers, Felix
    Mac OS 10.5.5 installed on a Macbook Pro 2.Gen.
    Installed all the newest software from the following Samsung Support site:
    http://www.samsung.com/at/support/download/supportDown.do?group=Drucker%20%26amp %3Bamp%3B%20Multifunktionsger%3Fte&type=Drucker%20%26amp%3Bamp%3B%20Multifunktio nsger%C3%A4te&subtype=Laser%20MFP&modelnm=SCX-4500W%2FSEE&disp_nm=SCX-4500W&language=&cate_type=all&dType=D&mType=DR&vT ype=L&prd_iacd=06010300
    Airport Express Firmware: 6.3

    For me this solution always worked for my Samsung SCX-4500 printer:
    1) renaming the printer in AirportExpress (AE) to "samsung" (important: spaces in the name seems to cause the problem - so do not ever use spaces in AEutility in name for the printer!)
    2) adding the printer through CUPS like described here (using HP Jet Direct Socket): http://osr600doc.sco.com/en/PR_gimpprint/x456.html
    HINT: when CUPS is asking for socket during the setup wizard use the following:
    socket://((ip-of-your-airport-express-here)):9100
    For example with my own AE IP, where printer is attached over USB:
    socket://192.168.178.25:9100
    3) that's it - printing should work now!
    If you still have any problems simply reboot AE to factory defaults, reconfigure it and go to the above steps. Good luck!

  • 10.6.2 update breaks Shared Scanning (Samsung SCX-4500)

    Since installing 10.6.2 on both Mac Mini and MacBook Pro, I can no longer use Shared Scanning.
    Setup:
    Mac Mini Core Duo running 10.6.2 sharing Samsung SCX-4500 multifunction device.
    MacBook Pro 3,1 running 10.6.2 running Image Capture as a client of the Mac Mini and its shared scanner.
    Scanning on the Mini itself works fine. Shared Scanning from the MacBook Pro appears to work: The scanner is listed in Image Capture's Shared section, the item to be scanned is correctly shown in the Overview scan, but when starting the scan proper, Image Capture quits without an error and the Samsung scanner disappears from the Shared list in Image Capture.
    Also after this event, Image Capture on the Mini is unable to see the scanner either until after a restart.
    Can anyone else reproduce this, with a Samsung device or another scanner?

    Hi Simon,
    I'm noticing something similar too. Mini Server running 10.6.2 sharing an Epson 10000XL scanner. Just got it today, so I have not extensively tested it, but this is what I've noticed so far:
    Every once in a while the scanner just seems to disappear from the scanner sharing box in Sharing Pref Pane on the server. Both server and clients stop seeing it entirely. The only way to get it back seems to be to log out and back into the server. Doing that is at least better than restarting as you have been doing. I do it via screen sharing on one of the clients; not so bad, but it's obviously kind of a pain when all you want to do is scan.
    One thing seems to have helped it be available for a few hours now without too much trouble - NOT trying to scan straight from the server via screen sharing. Just stick to the clients. Not promising that'll help, but it seems to be working now...
    One thing that did seem to cause this to happen once was disconnection the server's file shares from the client before trying to scan. Maybe that disrupts the network in just the right way to make the scanner disappear?
    But my biggest suspicion right now is that trying top scan from more than one source, whether it be 2 different clients or server + clients does something.
    These are just guesses for now, but I'm hoping to find some consistency so it's manageable at least.
    I'll post back whatever else I find,

  • Cannot SCAN with Samsung SCX-4500 Printer, New iMac w/Leopard

    I just purchased at an Apple retail store, a brand new 24" iMac along with a Samsung SCX-4500 laser printer, copier and scanner. Bad news is I can't get the scanner function to work. It prints and copies but doesn't scan. I went to Samsung and downloaded the lasted and greatest drivers but no scanning capability yet. Has anyone else purchased this printer? Is it compatible with OX 10.5 or is the Apple store just trying to get rid of printers that don't seem to work with Leopard. This bugs me. Any help would be great.

    This is from another forum as I was looking for the answer to the same issue:
    First off, when Samsung labels a button "Scan to PC", they mean it. That button only works with Windows PCs not Macs.
    To get it to the Samsung SCX 4500 to scan on your Mac you need to acquire the image using some other software. I used Preview.
    Put the picture or document that you want scanned on the bed. Open Preview. From the File menu, select the Import Image... option.
    The scanner activates and you will see, you guessed it, a preview of what is to be scanned. Notice that the scan button is grayed out.
    You now have to click and drag a box around what you want scanned. Once you draw your box identifying the exact image to be scanned, the Scan button is enabled. Now adjust any options, and hit Scan. Enjoy.
    Thanks to the Apple Genius in Century City who helped me out, also this post was helpful:

  • Samsung SCX-4500 scanning using Image Capture???

    Image Capture detects and scans successfully using the Samsung SCX-4500, BUT doesn't appear to save the file anywhere. I selected desktop, and still no file. Any ideas?

    In Image Capture, you need to click and drag on the preview image to tell it exactly what part of the image you want to scan. Then click the "scan" button. It will then save the file in the location you have specified.

  • Why do i have to keep repairing permissions for my samsung SCX-4500?

    Recently (since installing OS X  10.8) when I am sending something to my printer, Samsung SCX-4500 (Darth Vader decor), I will be asked for a certificate and then there will be request to repair permissions for the printer. Once that is done, the printer will print fine. But then some hours or days later I am asked to jump through the same hoops.
    Anyone else...?

    Please describe exactly what happens and what you do to recover, including the complete, verbatim text of any error messages you see, and any relevant messages from the log:
    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Select "/var/log/cups/error_log" from the file list on the left side of the Console window. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the time of the last failed printing attempt. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
    If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
    When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
    Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

    I have a samsung scx 4100 series and i just updated to mountain lion and now i keep getting a "filter failed" error, anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix it.

    Hi again, when you clicked on Mountain Lion and Lion in the App Store you are telling the laptop to reinstall them both.
    You may have allowed simutanious downloads checked at the bottom of the window, I don't know, but I expect Mountain Lion is downloading, so Lion is waiting for it to finish, so if you have Mountain Lion installed cancel both download's.
    Cancell both downloads anyway.
    Go to the apple logo , top left, click on it, then click on about this mac, a window will open telling you what's installed,  Mountain Lion is OX 10 version 10.8.2 click on more info, to find out more, Lion will be OX10 version 10.7.4.
    Only update were it say's check for updates, not download now.

  • Samsung SCX 4500 - Scanner no longer works since OS Update to 10.5.6

    Hi all, my problem is already described in the subject line
    The problem should have disturbed more people than just me.
    Installing the latest drivers from Samsung did not do the job
    Question: Anybody got the fix?
    Samsung is rather clueless on this one
    Thanks, Wolfgang

    Here's what you do -
    (Before following the directions below make sure you have removed the Samsung printer from the Print & Fax section of System Preferences and reboot your computer - then proceed with the following)
    1. Using a Cat-5 cable, turn your printer on and plug your Samsung directly into your router;
    2. Hold down the Stop/Clear button on the printer down for 5 seconds or untill two 00 (zeros) show up on the information bar on the top of the printer;
    3. Read the "Configuration report and note the IP Address given;
    4. Open your web browser and type in the printer's IP Address you wrote down;
    5. When the SyncThru Web Service page comes up click on the "Network Settings" tab across the top menu bar;
    6. Click on the TCP/IP tab on the left side under the "General" tab;
    7. Change the "IP Address Assignment Method" from DCHP †o STATIC;
    8. Hit the "APPLY" button on the bottom and exit from your browser;
    9. Open Print & Fax under System Preferences and hit the " + " button to install a new printer;
    10. Install the Samsung and you should be good to go!

  • Samsung SCX-4200, Print and Scanning now working in Snow Leopard 10.6

    I found the printer can print right off the bat by selecting the SCX-4300 series driver after the auto-detect.
    For scanning, install the Scan driver on this page:
    http://www.samsung.com/us/support/supportDownloadCenter.do?prdia_cd=N0000191&prd_mdl_cd=SCX-4200%2FXAA&prd_mdlname=SCX-4200
    You'll need to restart your Mac, but now it works perfectly

    Hey all,
    A quick follow-up to keep you up to date with regards to the repot above...Upon launching the Scanner service from within System Preferences > Print & Fax > "Open Scanner", in a working setup (i.e. upon a fresh system restart), the console presents the following:
    20/4/11 3:15:07 PM          PrinterProxy[1162]          *** Assertion failure in -[NSMenu itemAtIndex:], /SourceCache/AppKit/AppKit-1038.35/Menus.subproj/NSMenu.m:779
    20/4/11 3:15:07 PM          PrinterProxy[1162]          Invalid parameter not satisfying: (index >= 0) && (index < [_itemArray count])
    This new clue along with all the previous console messages probably shout out the cause of the problem, but as I mentioned before I am unable to interpret any of it..Bring on the big guns...any UNIX/OSX masterchiefs around here?

  • SCX-4500 and AirPort Extreme

    Hi,
    I just bought a Samsung SCX-4500 USB multifunction printer/scanner/copier.
    I've got an iMac aluminum + airport extreme 802.11n.
    When I put the printer's USB cable directly to the iMac everything works. Printer, copier, scanner and the software is available.
    But when I connect printer's USB cable to Airport extreme USB port and set USB sharing allowed on system preferences (airport utility) I can only print and copy; the scanner does not works. And the software is not available, although correctly installed.
    So, may someone help me please ?
    Thx. a lot

    I also got this print but you don't need to hook it to the AirPort since it has wireless built in and not only does printing work but scanning works wirelessly. You can go to my blog, I have step-by-step on how to do this.

  • Can't print from my Samsung SCX 4720

    After the last upgrade I lost all ability to print from my Samsung SCX 4720 (I have never been able to use the scan function with my, but at least I could print). Since Samsung doesn't have a Mac version for this printer, I used the generic Samsung SCX 4x20 driver and it worked fine so far. Additionally, I have lost any ability to add other printers, manually or automatically. The printer list has just been wiped clean. I tried copying the printer settings from my time machine backups, but to no avail. Does anybody have a suggestion?

    Samsung has downloadable drivers at: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SCX-4500W
    On edit: just noticed that link is to the scx-4500W and I'm not sure of the difference between that and the scx-4500; their scx-4500 page only has drivers for OSX through 10.7:  http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SCX-4500/XAA?

  • [Solved] Samsung SCX-4300 Printer Problem

    Hi everyone. I installed Arch Linux today. Everything is fine except printer. I am using Samsung SCX-4300 printer and scanner. Scanner works fine but CUPS doesn't see the printer. I can't see anything on CUPS web interface's Local Printers area. Here is a screenshot.
    I can see my printer in lsusb command:

    So why I can not see my printer and how can I fix that?

    I have a very similar printer (SCX-4500W) and found that I was able to get it working as a printer but that I could not get both print and scan functions to work at the same time.
    In order to get the printer going I had to add a file to /etc/udev/rules.d/71-scx4500w.rules with the content as a single line:
    ATTR{idVendor}=="04e8", ATTR{idProduct}=="342b", MODE:="0664", GROUP:="lp", ENV{libsane_matched}:="yes"
    You will need to change the idVendor and idProduct in the line above to match that for your own printer from the lsusb command instead of those above for the SCX-4500W.
    I would also suggest that you use the splix drivers package - i.e. make sure that the splix package is installed with:
    # pacman -S splix
    Then when you add the printer select the splix drivers which will work with that printer (you should check the splix support page to check your printer is supported but I am pretty sure it is)
    Once that is done then you need to start the cups.socket daemon with the following command as root (exclude the # which is the prompt)
    # systemctl start cups.socket
    and if it then works, and allows you to add the printer,  then you also need to "enable" the same daemon so that it starts after the next boot as well:
    # systemctl enable cups.socket
    One other thing is that if you want your printer to be discoverable as a cups remote printer on your local network you will need avahi-daemon running on the server to which the printer is attached, as well as on any machine which needs to see it - check the arch wiki on how to set that up if you need it.
    I hope this helps.

  • Does Airport extreme support Samsung SCX-3200 printer?

    I have a Samsung SCX-3200 printer (USB connection only) at home. We have both Mac and Windows based laptops. I would like to use Airport to connect to this printer over wireless. I am worried about the compatibility of the printer with the Airport.

    Yes

  • How can I fix this printer error with Samsung SCX-4300 and SCX-4521f on Windows Server 2008 R2?

    I have two printers installed on Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit):
    1. Samsung SCX-4521f
    2. Samsung SCX-4300
    There are two computers (Windows 7 Professional, 32-Bit) connected to this server that utilise these shared printers.
    The drivers installed are as follows:
    SCX-4x21_Win7_Print.exe (Win 2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008/Win 7    3.04.96:03    Print Driver    11 Dec, 2009    12.37    MULTI LANGUAGE)
    SCX-4300_Print.exe (Win 2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008/Win 7(32,64bit) 3.04.95:07 Print Driver Jan 19, 2011 53.07 MULTI LANGUAGE)
    After printing documents for some time (within a 24 period) the printers no longer respond to print requests.
    On the server opening "Control Panel\Hardware\Devices and Printers" shows the two printers with yellow exclamation marks.
    The "SCX-4x21" printer shows the "Status" as "Needs troubleshooting" and "Printer: Error".
    The "SCX-4300" printer shows the "Status" as "Needs troubleshooting".
    Neither will print a test page.
    Searching for new drivers automatically returns saying: "The best driver software for your device is already installed".
    The error persists and nothing will print.
    When double-clicking on the "SCX-4x21" printer (or going to "Control Panel\Hardware\Devices and Printers\Samsung SCX-4x21 Series") you see the following:
    "Printer: Error" and "N document(s) in queue".
    Clicking on either of these brings up the print queue and shows a document with the status of "Error - Printing".
    As each job with an error is cancelled the next one attempts to print and also displays an error like the last.
    Once all the jobs are cleared the printer information says "Printer: Ready".
    Sending a "Print Test Page" sends the printer into an error state saying "Printer: Error".
    With the "SCX-4300", sending a "Print Test Page" displays a bubble saying: "Toner Empty: Replace Toner".
    However, I can't see any specific error messages.
    How do I find out what exactly "Needs troubleshooting"?
    Please can anyone advise further?

    The printer (SCX-4300) has stopped again.
    Since it has been stopped I have done your recommendations:
    Unticked the "Enable bidirectional support" option under the "Ports" tab in the printer properties.
    Set the "Interactive Services Detection" to Automatic and started it.
    Unfortunately the printer did not start printing, the print jobs did not restart or delete.
    I decided to check the Operational logs that we enabled.
    The first job I see goes like this:
    Information: Rendering job 41.
    Error: The print spooler failed to delete the file C:\Windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS\00041.SHD, error code 0x2. See the event user data for context information.
    Information: The print job 41 was sent through the print processor SSE1MPC on printer Samsung SCX-4300 Series, driver Samsung SCX-4300 Series, in the isolation mode 1 (0 - loaded in the spooler, 1 - loaded in shared sandbox, 2 - loaded in isolated
    sandbox). Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 0x0.
    Information:Printing job 41.
    Information:Spooling job 41.
    This job actually printed.
    Other jobs printed fine with no error.
    There are no other errors in the "Operational" log other than the "print spooler failed to delete" error.
    Any ideas what to try now?
    Update: Unticking the "Enable bidirectional support", clearing the print queue and then trying again seems to have fixed the problem for now.
