Samsung SCX 4500 - Scanner no longer works since OS Update to 10.5.6

Hi all, my problem is already described in the subject line
The problem should have disturbed more people than just me.
Installing the latest drivers from Samsung did not do the job
Question: Anybody got the fix?
Samsung is rather clueless on this one

Here's what you do -
(Before following the directions below make sure you have removed the Samsung printer from the Print & Fax section of System Preferences and reboot your computer - then proceed with the following)
1. Using a Cat-5 cable, turn your printer on and plug your Samsung directly into your router;
2. Hold down the Stop/Clear button on the printer down for 5 seconds or untill two 00 (zeros) show up on the information bar on the top of the printer;
3. Read the "Configuration report and note the IP Address given;
4. Open your web browser and type in the printer's IP Address you wrote down;
5. When the SyncThru Web Service page comes up click on the "Network Settings" tab across the top menu bar;
6. Click on the TCP/IP tab on the left side under the "General" tab;
7. Change the "IP Address Assignment Method" from DCHP †o STATIC;
8. Hit the "APPLY" button on the bottom and exit from your browser;
9. Open Print & Fax under System Preferences and hit the " + " button to install a new printer;
10. Install the Samsung and you should be good to go!

    You mention that your iPod nano is no longer recognized by iTunes after an update. Reinstalling iTunes is a good troubleshooting step, and if the device still doesn't appear in iTunes, try the following steps next:
    Turn off your computer and your iOS device or iPod, then turn them on again.
    Check to make sure that you've installed all required updates for your computer.
    Verify that the 30-pin to USB cable or Lightning Connector to USB cable is free of debris and not damaged. If another cable is available, test with that cable instead.
    USB cables that are bundled with third-party products or accessories might work only to charge those products and might not transmit data. Also, if you're using a third-party case or extended battery pack, try removing the case and connecting the Apple-supplied USB cable directly to your device.

I followed a tutorial that suggested to go to Applications/iTunes/Get Info and change to 32 bit. Now my iTunes does not open at all, it says it requires 64 bit. I am a bit confused and disappointed.     Marcello, I am having the same problem.  When following the advice of many in the community to start iTunes in 32-bit mode, I get the following error after I have done so:
    I am running 10.9.2 on a mac mini. 
    I am hoping this will be fixed or at least a solid answer could be given that iTunes will no longer support certain types of media going foward.

  • Airtunes streaming no longer works since last update

    I have been using my Airport Express to straem Airtunes to my speakers for over a year. Immediately following my last software update, it no longer works. In iTunes, I can see the speakers, it just won't let me check them for use. The Express unit seems to be working properly and I have updated the firmware on it and the Extreme as well. Has anyone seen this behavior? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    When I get an Italian word of the day and click to play audio of it in sentence, I get a quicktime message that it needs a component. This just started happening, maybe since I updated Firefox. Not sure. I called Apple and they had me download something which fixes it with Safari and they say it's a Firefox problem. Any advice? I prefer Firefox.

    Are they stored locally on the computer or are you visiting a website?
    What browser do you use?
    Where do these videos link to? (e.g. youtube)
    What happens when you click on a video link? Saying "it doesn't work" doesn't really tell me what you are seeing to be able to accurately understand your issue.

    Outlook error messages 3259 & 3260 - emails stuck in outbox (previously working fine)
    I AM REPOSTING THIS FROM THE MICROSOFT OFFICE SUPPORT FORUM AS IT'S BEEN OVER 6 MONTHS AND NOTHING HAS HELPED
    I am using Outlook 2011 for Mac (with Lion 10.7) and my emails have suddenly stopped sending and are sitting stuck in the outbox. The error messages received are either 3259 ("an operation on the server timed out.....") or error 3260 ("Outlook cannot connect to the server. Verify that your computer is connected to the network") with 3260 being the most recent and frequent. This is not an internet connection issue as all other internet programmes are working.
    Its a small business POP account, I set it up myself and it has been working fine for for the last 3 months. I initially had this same problem (but can't remember the error message) and managed to sort it out by overiding the default port 25 and using 587 instead (picked this up on another forum and it worked fine). I have tried reverting the default port, rebuilding the outlook database (holding shift or option when starting), and emptying all folders and restarting the programme. 
    Obviously I have tried using the email account remotely and this is working as normal so this suggests an Outlook issue. I have also installed my mailbox on another machine and had no trouble. Any suggestions from you Mac experts? Over in Microsoft world nobody can figure it out....

    No I don't have HTML files, we have video streaming code from Brightcove that we paste into the Insert HTML dialog. One of the handy things about this was that we could quickly edit the code to change the size of the playback window on the page, then Brightcove automatically serves up the most appropriate resolution of the multiples it holds on its server.
    My options now are:
    1. Turn a rectangle frame into a standard web content frame and direct it to the video's fixed URL. Problem: we get one predetermined resolution and users don't know what it is, although they can get a rough visual idea by previewing the page on an iPad.
    2. Create dozens of HTML files that contain different video streaming code and load them into standard web content frames. Problem: in order to specify and change the size of the videos on the page, users will have to edit the HTML files and then manually change the frame sizes.
    Before we start spending too much time and cash on developing option 2, can I get an ETA on the fix for this bug, please? Is a downgrade to v24 really not possible?

    Please try the steps below depending on the operating system,
    Windows
    Click on the "Start" menu. Select "All Programs" and then "Accessories"
    Right-click on "Notepad" and select "Run as Administrator"
    Click "Continue" on the "Windows needs your permission" dialog
    When Notepad opens, click File and select Open
    In the filename field type the following:C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts
    If any entries in the host file include keywords such as "adobe," delete those entries. These are used for Adobe Licensing.
    From the "File" menu select "Save" after making changes
    Restart Muse
    Macintosh
    Click on the "Finder" icon. Select the "Applications" folder
    Open the "Utilities" folder and select "Terminal"
    Type the following:sudo nano /etc/hosts
    Enter the OS user's associated password when prompted
    If any entries in the host file include keywords such as "adobe," delete those entries. These are used for Adobe Licensing.
    Press control+o to save the file
    Press control+x to close the file
    Restart Muse
    Please let me know if it works.

    Went around the long way and reinstalled Mavericks since the Mac was acting a little flakey occasionally of late, and now the  printer as once again been installed and works ok by wire. Have not yet had time to try to connect wirelessy yet, so...

  • 10.6.2 update breaks Shared Scanning (Samsung SCX-4500)

    Since installing 10.6.2 on both Mac Mini and MacBook Pro, I can no longer use Shared Scanning.
    Setup:
    Mac Mini Core Duo running 10.6.2 sharing Samsung SCX-4500 multifunction device.
    MacBook Pro 3,1 running 10.6.2 running Image Capture as a client of the Mac Mini and its shared scanner.
    Scanning on the Mini itself works fine. Shared Scanning from the MacBook Pro appears to work: The scanner is listed in Image Capture's Shared section, the item to be scanned is correctly shown in the Overview scan, but when starting the scan proper, Image Capture quits without an error and the Samsung scanner disappears from the Shared list in Image Capture.
    Also after this event, Image Capture on the Mini is unable to see the scanner either until after a restart.
    Can anyone else reproduce this, with a Samsung device or another scanner?

    I'm noticing something similar too. Mini Server running 10.6.2 sharing an Epson 10000XL scanner. Just got it today, so I have not extensively tested it, but this is what I've noticed so far:
    Every once in a while the scanner just seems to disappear from the scanner sharing box in Sharing Pref Pane on the server. Both server and clients stop seeing it entirely. The only way to get it back seems to be to log out and back into the server. Doing that is at least better than restarting as you have been doing. I do it via screen sharing on one of the clients; not so bad, but it's obviously kind of a pain when all you want to do is scan.
    One thing seems to have helped it be available for a few hours now without too much trouble - NOT trying to scan straight from the server via screen sharing. Just stick to the clients. Not promising that'll help, but it seems to be working now...
    One thing that did seem to cause this to happen once was disconnection the server's file shares from the client before trying to scan. Maybe that disrupts the network in just the right way to make the scanner disappear?
    But my biggest suspicion right now is that trying top scan from more than one source, whether it be 2 different clients or server + clients does something.
    These are just guesses for now, but I'm hoping to find some consistency so it's manageable at least.

  • Samsung SCX 4500 and Airport Express incompatibility?

    Hi,
    I have bought the Samsung SCX 4500 printer two days ago...
    Since then I tried out to get the printer working properly with my Airport Express.
    Before I had a Canon IP 5300 and everything worked out great - no problems with printing.
    But so far I have only made the SCX 4500 print once with the Airport Express and this
    was right after I connected it via Bonjour to my Airport Express Printer Sharing...
    Afterwards the printer refused to print anything more.
    A scanner is part of the multifunction printer as well - the scanning is only support if you connect the printer via usb cable to the computer.
    But at least this fairly "handsome" printer should print wirelessly...
    If you have any suggestions how I can solve the problem, let me know...

    Airport Express Firmware: 6.3

    For me this solution always worked for my Samsung SCX-4500 printer:
    1) renaming the printer in AirportExpress (AE) to "samsung" (important: spaces in the name seems to cause the problem - so do not ever use spaces in AEutility in name for the printer!)
    2) adding the printer through CUPS like described here (using HP Jet Direct Socket): http://osr600doc.sco.com/en/PR_gimpprint/x456.html
    HINT: when CUPS is asking for socket during the setup wizard use the following:
    socket://((ip-of-your-airport-express-here)):9100
    For example with my own AE IP, where printer is attached over USB:
    socket://192.168.178.25:9100
    3) that's it - printing should work now!
    If you still have any problems simply reboot AE to factory defaults, reconfigure it and go to the above steps. Good luck!

  • Cannot SCAN with Samsung SCX-4500 Printer, New iMac w/Leopard

    I just purchased at an Apple retail store, a brand new 24" iMac along with a Samsung SCX-4500 laser printer, copier and scanner. Bad news is I can't get the scanner function to work. It prints and copies but doesn't scan. I went to Samsung and downloaded the lasted and greatest drivers but no scanning capability yet. Has anyone else purchased this printer? Is it compatible with OX 10.5 or is the Apple store just trying to get rid of printers that don't seem to work with Leopard. This bugs me. Any help would be great.

    This is from another forum as I was looking for the answer to the same issue:
    First off, when Samsung labels a button "Scan to PC", they mean it. That button only works with Windows PCs not Macs.
    To get it to the Samsung SCX 4500 to scan on your Mac you need to acquire the image using some other software. I used Preview.
    Put the picture or document that you want scanned on the bed. Open Preview. From the File menu, select the Import Image... option.
    The scanner activates and you will see, you guessed it, a preview of what is to be scanned. Notice that the scan button is grayed out.
    You now have to click and drag a box around what you want scanned. Once you draw your box identifying the exact image to be scanned, the Scan button is enabled. Now adjust any options, and hit Scan. Enjoy.

    Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried, until the problem is resolved. Some of these steps are only possible if you have control over the wrieless router.
    Step 1
    Turn Wi-Fi off and back on.
    Step 2
    Restart the router and the computer. Many problems are solved that way.
    Step 3
    Change the name of the wireless network, if applicable, to eliminate any characters other than letters and digits. You do that on your router via its web page, if it's not an Apple device, or via AirPort Utility, if it is an Apple device.
    Step 4
    Run the Network Diagnostics assistant.
    Step 5
    In OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and fix the issues listed in the Summary, if any.
    Step 6
    Back up all data.
    Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
    Enter the name of your wireless network in the search box. You should have one or more "AirPort network password" items with that name. Make a note of the name and password, then delete all the items. Quit Keychain Access. Turn Wi-Fi off and then back on. Reconnect to the network.
    Step 7
    You may need to change other settings on the router. See the guidelines linked below:

    Step 8
    Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    Step 9
    Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).

  • Why do i have to keep repairing permissions for my samsung SCX-4500?

    Recently (since installing OS X  10.8) when I am sending something to my printer, Samsung SCX-4500 (Darth Vader decor), I will be asked for a certificate and then there will be request to repair permissions for the printer. Once that is done, the printer will print fine. But then some hours or days later I am asked to jump through the same hoops.
    Anyone else...?

    from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the time of the last failed printing attempt. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
    If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
    When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
    Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
