Samsung SSD causing problem with upgrade from Windows 8.0 to 8.1

I'm having trouble upgrading my HP Desktop from the OEM installed Windows 8.0 to 8.1.  I first attempted the upgrade when 8.1 was first rolled out.  It seemed to upgrade okay, but after a reboot I was left with a black screen... no error messages, just a black screen.
I retried it this morning, but this time it failed with DPC_Watchdog_Exception and then Machine_Check_Exception.  After searching through several forums, I'm "guessing" it may be Disk 0, which is a Samsung 830 Series SSD (Model: MZ7PC256/0H1, s/n: S0U3NSAC705912, p/n: MZ7PC256HAFU-000H1) that was installed and configured by HP when I ordered this desktop in 2012.
Samsung's Magician software doesn't recognize this SDD as a supported product, but they do identify it as a Samsung MZ7PC256HAFU-000H1, with Firmware version CXM05H1Q.  I thought I'd see if a firmware upgrade was available, but there's no information about this SSD on Samsung's support site. Also, HP doesn't offer any firmware for this SSD... not even the original firmware.  Everything I've seen on the internet says it's a custom OEM SSD that's not supported by Samsung. 
I'm not desparate to upgrade to Win8.1, but I would like to know exactly why the upgrade keeps failing.  I have another SSD available (a Samsung 850 Pro, model: MZ-7KE256BW) that I've considered using to replace the current Drive 0, but I hate swapping out parts without knowing it's actually the problem.
I'm open to advice. The info on my current system follows. Also, I should point out that there are no device conflicts nor outdate drivers.

Hi,
You will find the latest firmware for the Samsung 830 at the Samsung SSD download site.  Additionally, you will also find the latest version of the Samsung Magician.
Backup your data and be sure to create the external HP recovery media.
I prefer not to clone but rather to use the external HP recovery media to load the SSD.
If you are not on the latest SSD firmware then flash the SSD.  Use the latest version of the Magician to do so.
Disable Secure Boot in the BIOS before cloning the hard drive.
Then reformat and clone the SSD using the latest Samsung migration software. Use the original HP hard drive as the source and it needs to be intact as you need to bring across all of the partitions.
Power off the PC and disconnect the original boot HD.
Connect the SSD to the original boot SATA port.
Do not have any other SSDs or hard drives connected that contain an EFI partitions or you might run into issues with multiple Windows boot loders.

    I tried to get Windows 10 on my Probook 4540s and it downloads fine.  It then checks the software on the computer and find a program that is not compatable and says I must uninstall it to continue.  I would uninstall it but want to be sure I am noy going to cause more issues by doing so.  The program that it does not like is the HP tools software, it includes the biometric scan and such.  Would it be safe to uninstall these or should I wait to see if there will be a workaround for this issue.

    There is no workaround other than removing it as suggested, that software is not compatible with W10 and never will be.

    According to my experience, the problem like store game app open failed probably caused by hardware driver. such as Audio and Graphic driver. So, first of all, please try to reinstall these two driver to fix this problem for test.
    In addition, for SFC scan failed problem, it can be caused by many reasons, I would suggest you use another command to fix your system for test.
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
    Also you can test SFC command in Windows 8.1 safe mode.
    Thirdly, if problem persists, please check Event Viewer, generally speaking, it would record the app open failed events.

  • Apple TV causing problems with Airplay from Airport Express?

    I am having a problem with Airplay on my home network. I have two Airplay devices - Apple TV and an Airprot Express. I soon as both of these devices are on my wireless network Airplay starts to create all kinds of errors, delays, inability to connect and ultimately both AP devices crash.
    The AE is connected to the existing network and is only being used as an airplay device to send music to a set of speakers.
    I have looked at the knowledge base & I tried all of the following (plus every conceivable combination):
    Restored both the Apple TV & AE to factory settings.
    Checked both are on independent IPs.
    Checked all the settings on my router.
    Restarted my router.
    Changed the channel on my router (it's worth mentioning here that both devices are on a 5GHz connection).
    It's also worth noting that when I did a factory reset of everything and set the ATV up on an ethernet connection everything worked swimmingly until I unplugged the ethernet cable and connected the device to the wireless network.
    Both work independently (i.e. when the other is not connected to the wireless network), but need restarting if the two have been run at the same time.
    So - in a nut shell - it appears to me that the two devices are interfering with each other - but how?!
    Are any geniuses out there able to help?

    Thanks Winston. I put the APE onto the 2.4 connection. This didnt solve this issue, but then with the two devices on the different connections I changed the channels a few times and eventually I found a coblination that works! I now have a problem where the ATV doesn't wake up to AirPlay, but I feel this is most likely a separate issue.

    Aim: we have to upgrade oim9.1 to oim 11g, with new data cente ( we are doing this in DEV env)
    constraint: DB diskSpace is 30 GB
    As part of upgradation, we have to import the existing oim 9.1 Db to new DB, Here we faced the size problem, our Dev DB data size is 100GB (which is going to import into new DB), but new DB disk space is 30GB only.
    Which tables, do we need to truncate, so that It should not effect upgradtion( we should not miss, oim objects other than User/log inforamtion)?
    Do OIm11g(11.1.1.5.0) has any constraints over DB size with 30 GB?
    Please suggest me.

    The UPA tables are audit related. I doubt you could truncate any of the others and not affect something else.

  • Problems with migration from Windows to Mac

    I recently purchased a new Macbook Pro and proceeded to move my Lightroom program and catalog to the new computer.  I have 77,000 digital image files stored on an external hard drive, so I placed my catalog on the external drive to make the move to the new machine.  I plugged the hard drive into the new laptop and wasn't pleased to see that my catalog seemed to work fine.  However, when I ran the 'find missing files' command the program identified over 22,000 images that couldn't be located.  When I manually went to point the catalog to the files' locations nothing happened.  Repeating the locate missing files command produced an error saying that the image couldn't be used because it was already linked. 
    I'm confused about what to do here..... about the only thing I can thing of now is to totally recreate the catalog, which would of course make me lose the work I've done for the last 9 months. 
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Greg,
    There are probably null in OOIN.U_PRX_SID.
    If this is the case.  Just change them to '0' and you should be good.

    I have a fully functional 10.1.3.2 with all Java and everything.
    When I start the server install I get the following error in a small window:
    Java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: run Exeption in thread "main"
    Where should I look? Should I uninstall the previous version?

    I had the same problem when I did the upgrade the very same day of the release. And the solution for me was to login using my battery. For some reason, GDM won't let me in if I'm plugged (I know it sounds crazy, but it works for me)

    Go Start>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer and scroll through the logs for System and Applications to see if anything shows up in red as Error or Warning.
    Meanwhile, going to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers
    in regedit.exe, backing up the whole ConxtentMenuHandlers folder, and then start deleting all of them one by one and continuously testing the right click.  Of course import the Context folder after you find it, test once again by right clicking
    to make sure you found the problem, and delete the file that caused the problem.

    The only way to move files or folders/subfolders without causing problems, that is not creating 'missing files' is to do this from within the Organizer, not the OS (Win/Mac).
    You can create folders and move pictures from the Organizer.
    Note that if you are moving the files of several subfolders into a single one, you run the risk of wanting to move files with the same filename into the same folder ; your OS won't allow that. So the Organizer will rename pictures if needed.
    If you want to do such a big reorganizing task, absolutely do a full backup before. There is no advantage  for such a reorganizing from an Organizer point of view, but if you need it for some reason, it has to be done from within the organizer.

    When I run installer it check compatibility drivers and programs after that appear message that I need to uninstall  "adaptec storage manager" but I already remove this driver from the system and registry.
    Any ideas to solve this problem?

    Not sure if this issue was solved or no longer relevant, but I had the same issue with the same IBM x3500 server type.
    Based on the SETUPACT.LOG output from the Server 2003 to 2008 upgrade compatibility check, the problem was that the driver AACMGT.SYS is unsigned, and hence not acceptable for running in Windows Server 2008.
    AACMGT.SYS is a part of IBM ServeRAID but unfortunately, even the latest versions 9.3 to not seem to update or replace this file. It's also possible this file is a residue of an earlier, deprecated version of ServeRAID, I don't know.
    In the end, to get passed the Upgrade check hard stop, I did this, though I'm not sure if all steps are needed:
    0. Make sure you have a system backup in case you break something doing this steps. If you do break your system and cannot recover from backups, it's not my fault!
    1. Go into Device Manager --> Disks and check the Driver properties for the disks on your system. You might have AACMGT.SYS listed for some/all disks and also listed as unsigned. 
    2. Uninstall IBM ServeRAID from the system, just in case
    3. Do into Device Manager and go under Disks, and manually Uninstall all the disks in the list including "AdaptecArray SCSI Disk" and some other secondary. I did not reboot right away.
    4. Go to console, go into C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS, and rename AACMGT.SYS to something else. 
    5. Reboot the system and hope it still boots. Go into Device Manager -> Disks and make sure that AACMGT.SYS is no longer listed.
    6. Run the 2003 to 2008 Upgrade process again. The Compatibility checker should no longer flag "Adaptec Storage Manager" as a blocker.

    Finally I have solved this matter
    The problem was related with memory RAM.
    I had installed two memory in laptop:
    - original installed 2GB 1333MHZ Hynix
    - by me added 4GB 1333MHZ Corsair.
    Regarding with hardware specification memory bus is working at maximum 1066MHZ

    I suppose that these differences were reason of my problems.
    Probably Corsair can not work with lower speed...
    When I removed 4GB RAM instalator windows 10 was started without issues.
    What is strange after installation I did test and once again installed 4GB memory and Windows is working... It is amazing
