Samsung Stratosphere Screen Fragile

Hello!
Has anyone had the experience of the Samsung Stratosphere screen cracking VERY easily?  My wife just lost her 3rd stratosphere, and each time she has had a protective case, and each time it was just in her purse.  Last time we paid money for a refurbished one, and we just can't afford to keep paying for a new phone every couple of months.  Has anyone had any luck calling Samsung, or has Verizon been helpful at all?
Thanks!

    Hello community!
Having any kind of malfunction with your cellphone is never fun. We know how important these devices have become in our life and we want to ensure they work properly and look great!  I tend to think of our cellphones as investments because we want to keep them in the best of conditions.
This type of difficulty walks a very thin line due to outside forces, but I would at least like to provide some feedback and some expectations.
There are qualifying factors that would allow for your phone to be replaced under the manufacture warranty if there is a crack underneath the top layer of screen glass.
1. There must be no other physical sign of external damage visible with the device.
2. The outer screen must be smooth to the touch, with no external screen compromises.
3. There should not be any indication of bleeding on the screen.
4. There should be no indicators of Liquid or Physical damage on any other parts of the phone.
If there is additional damage found on the equipment, the devices would be subject to a nonrefundable Device Damage fee.
Keep in mind this is provided warranty from the manfacture of the phone and is subject to change in the future. I personally want to add to this subject that we are absolutely here to help as much as possible.
I trust this was helpful information and I look forward to each of you enjoying the phone as you should.
Thank you

  • Samsung Stratosphere, screen black out to fast

Ok, Just upgraded to a Samsung Stratosphere from a Droid 2 Global..so far...MAJOR MAJOR improvement. The one problem I constantly have with my stratosphere is..
When I go to open the phone, I tap the "power key"..the screen lites up, but often shuts back down(to black) within 2-3 seconds.
I have set the screen time out several times to 1 minute or more..but still I get this random, crash to black often(the phone is crashed..just the creen goes dark..I can start it back up with another press to the power key..but 1 press of the key should be enough...shouldn't it?)

I too had this problem and I dicovered by accident thait if I get a call and use the handset to my ear and then pull it away the screen stays on.. But if I answer it using my wired earpiece the screen goes black.. it must be the sensor and software that realizes if the sensor is activated because you have it dark (because it at your head) vs picking up with speaker or wiredearpiece or I would think blue tooth headsets..It's definetly not right and I hope a fix is in the works. short term answer the phone the old fasion way holding it to your ear..

  • Samsung Stratosphere screen turned purple

My girlfriend's Stratosphere's  screen turned purple today.  She doesn't have the insurance through verizon either.  She got the phone about 3 months ago.  What are options to fix it or get it fixed?

I just had the exact problem this morning. I just woke up, picked up my phone and the screen was tinted pinkish purple. I figured I should investigate before calling Verizon, but this is the only other case that I can find. Did you do anything to fix yours?

  • How do you select multiple messages/conversations on SMS/MMS to forward or save to memory card on Samsung Stratosphere?

How do you select multiple messages/conversations on SMS/MMS to forward or save to memory card on Samsung Stratosphere?
My screen is cracked and I need to replace my phone and I don't see a way of selecting multiple messages or even conversations one at a time to forward them to email or to save them to a memory card.  I can delete thread but can't forward it or move it.  Is there a setting somewhere that will move the storage location for messages to the memory card instead of internal?
If not, any suggestions on backup apps?  I have heard of Txtract to back up SMS and MMS messages, and Titanium Backup to back up everything (SMS, MMS, apps, app data...).  Anyone have any experience with those, or other suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • Samsung Stratosphere - Lemon

My daughter got a Samsung Stratosphere, it gave her nothing but problems, losing it's charge, not staying charged, locking up, etc. She had it replaced twice and it was driving her nuts. On the last reconditioned one I took it instead of having to deal with it. I had to replace it 3 times and it still locks up, about one out of ten calls it will flash a screen not allowing me to answer, it will not stay charged and I have to keep it on a charger most of the day. It has been taken in to the Verizon center many, many times. They have been good to deal with and most of the time been able to get it up and going again. The most valuable thing they showed me was taking the battery out to reboot it, I have to do this at least once a week. If one does a search on the internet anyone can see this model phone has been dog from the word go. The only explanation I can get on getting a different model (I have never had issues with a cell phone until this piece of junk, either has my daughter) is that that is against Verizon's policy. This week I have had to pull the battery 2 different times, I am fed up! ATT is looking better everyday, we have stayed with Verizon just due to service, certainly not price. Is it worth losing a customer by making them keep a lousy phone and it is just not my particular phone, it obviously was all the Samsung Stratospheres?
    Edited to start new discussion.

I'm not sure if there's a setting for this in the stock e-mail app. There might be in a more advanced e-mail app; someone here who uses K-9 mail might be able to chime in on that.
Another approach would be to password-protect the whole phone, so that random people would not be able to access anything on it. From the Home screen do Menu > Settings > Location & security > Screen unlock settings. You can set a PIN, password, or drawing pattern to unlock the phone. But BE CAREFUL if you do this -- there have been several posts here from people who've set this and then promptly forgotten what it was. The outcome is not pretty.

  • Samsung Stratosphere update coming

According to a couple of sources, the Samsung Stratosphere is to receive its first system update over the air, probably within a few days:
    http://www.droid-life.com/2012/08/27/samsung-stratosphere-to-receive-first-update-includes/
    http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/08/27/samsung-stratosphere-on-verizon-slated-to-get-a-pseudo-ics-update-build-ff01/
This is going to be a "mandatory" update, meaning that Strat users cannot choose not to receive and install it. The update will not be Ice Cream Sandwich, but will add a couple of ICS features to the Strat's Gingerbread Android operating system, such as face unlock. (I presume that this means you can unlock the phone by looking at it, not by tapping it with your face -- nor that the phone will unlock your face if the latter seizes up. ) It will also address a few issues that have been mentioned on this forum, such as individual ringtones for contacts, and improved screen wakeup during calls.
Here is an announcement from VZW about the update (note the misspelling of the device's name in the URL!):
    http://support.verizonwireless.com/pdf/system_update/statosphere.pdf
Here's a brochure from VZW about what will happen when the update is ready to install (with the same misspelling):
    http://support.verizonwireless.com/pdf/system_update/statosphere_instructions.pdf
I haven't received any word from VZW about this myself, which I find a little annoying, since they say they are "pleased to announce" it. Just not directly to customers, I guess. Now if my phone will only hold a 4G connection long enough for the thing to download!

Thanks, Ann. Can you tell me (us) how to get to that support page? I only found the announcement PDF because it was linked to on one of the sites I gave in my post (which I only found because they were in a post on the Android Central Stratosphere forum, which I also monitor). I went to the VZW site and tried clicking a couple of support links, but I could only find some very basic stuff, not this announcement. I'd love to have a VZW support site I could also check from time to time for such announcements.

  • Samsung Stratosphere turning itself off and on

All of a sudden, my Stratosphere is caught in this loop of turning itself off (despite holding a full charge) and then trying to turn itself back on. For the last several hours, the screen has been alternating between black and black with the word "Samsung" on it. If I force the issue and hold the power button down for a few seconds, the phone will boot up fully, but then it'll either turn itself back off immediately or let me use it for a couple of minutes before turning itself off.
My first thought was that it might be the battery, but I'm not keen on buying a new one just to find out that it's actually an issue with the phone itself. Does this sound like anything that anyone else has gone through?

    SW9-
Unfortunately, this sounds like something I have gone through way too many times with my Stratosphere. I have lost count of how many replacements I have had to get because of this. If it starts working after the Hard Reset (mine did not but yours might work??), you will notice that the phone eventually will stop holding a charge.
I suggest trying anything you can to get a new device as there are many discussions on the Verizon Customer Service website that are about the Samsung Stratosphere; if you search around, you will be able to see all of the fun issues that the device has. Good luck!

  • How to connect Macbook Pro to Samsung Flat Screen TV

How do i connect my Macbook Pro (2-3 years ago) to Samsung Flat screen TV (Samsung UN22F5000 22-Inch 1080p 60Hz Slim LED HDTV). Currently, I just discovered that my HDMI port on the TV said "DVI". So, i came to the conclusion that I need to get the DVI to HDMI cable (male-male), and mini display-port to DVI (female) adapter cable for Macbook Pro. The question is am I correct?
I have tried looking at the back of the Samsung flat screen, but there has no VGA to PC port (female). Therefore, i googled and tried to find a way to connect my Mac to the Samsung flat screen TV. As i mentioned above, I came to the conclusion that I need those things. I just want to make sure that my assumption is correct. Thank you

    Dear Varjak Paw,
Thank you for replying to this topic. Yes, it is true that there are 2 HDMI ports. However, one of the HDMI ports has something written on it, which is (HDMI In 1 STB). While, the other one stated "HDMI In 2 DVI". Moreover, I tried to plug in the HDMI cable into HDMI In 2 DVI, and it doesn't fit. While, plugging in to the STB does fit. Do you know what are the differences?
    Thank you
    Sincerely yours,

Not sure that I have selected the correct forum.  Hope my questions are clearly stated.
Having problems connecting iMac(late 2006) running 10.7.5 to a Samsung Flat Screen TV using separate audio/speaker cable and HDMI standard cable, mini-DVI to HDMI video converter.  TV displays generic Apple galaxy background and "some" windows (e.g. screen resolution choices).   It does not show Mail or Safari menus.  System preferences'  display "gathered" the Samsung and chose its resolution.  I did not find a way to select the Samsung as my display.
In addition to having old hardware, we have Verizon FIOS providing internet and TV access.  Is there any way to make this work for us?  We would like to stream video (Netflix) and view shows from the Web.  Do we need Apple TV to do this?  Or is it not possible with our old iMac?  My husband thinks that our Airport could be a factor.
    Thank you

Lately, I have been seeing a lot of posts with users trying to use their Macs/iMacs to mirror their streaming video from their Macs to an HDTV.
There are, actually, many alternatives to choose from than just from a Mac.
You need to have or invest in a WiFi capable router for all of these examples.
Apple TV only integrates with WiFi and newer Mac hardware. So, if you want to have total integrated experience, if you have a 2011 Mac or newer, you might as well pay the $100 for the AppleTV box.
If you have a older Mac, like I have noticed many users do, then you have other options.
If you want to elimate long cable clutter and having your Mac at the mercy of your TV all of the time,  you can still use the AppleTV box independently or purchase cheaper alternative media streaming boxes from Roku, Sony, Boxee or any number of electronics manufacturers that now have media streaming boxes and media streaming capability built into DVD/Blu-ray players.
These eliminate long cable clutter by being close to the HDTV where shorter, less expensive cables can be used.
Another alternative for iPad users is to use an iPad with the USB/HDMI video adapter and use your iPad as the streaming box. This ties up your iPad in much the same way as it does with your Mac, but again the iPad can be close to the TV and use minimal cables to the TV.
Another alternative to is to use a combination of an iPad and your Mac to stream content that is only available to stream online from a computer. In this case, you can use a desktop remote app on your iPad and Mac. A good and cheap Desktop Remote app is Splashtop Remote. This allows you to completely connect your iPad remotely, over Wifi, to your iMac desktop. The app streams both video and sound to the iPad which is still connected to your HDTV. The resultant stream video picture will be smaller than the size of your HDTV, but it will still be plenty large enough to watch. Again, if you own a iPad and an Intel Mac, this method also allows minimal cabling to the TV.

  • How can I delete multiple emails on my Samsung Stratosphere at once?

How can I delete multiple emails on my Samsung Stratosphere at once? I use AOL and when I delete the emails off of my computer, they do not delete from my phone. So I have hundreds of unwanted messages showing on my phone but I have not found an option to delete all messages, only individually. I would also like to be able to clear the messages from my phone without them deleting from my computer. This was super easy with my blackberry and I have not found anything similar on this phone.

When I go to the trash folder on my Stratosphere, I can check individual emails and then hit "Menu" and "Delete", but if I hit the "Menu" button before selecting any e-mails, then I see the "Delete all" button, but it's greyed out, so I cannot select it.  There's also a "Restore All" button next to the "Delete all" button, and it's also greyed out.  So, currently the only way I can delete the 100's of e-mails in my trash is to put a check mark next to each one, which is painful.  Anybody else have this problem or know of a solution?

  • Why won't my Samsung Stratosphere Charge??

I've had a Samsung Stratosphere since late July of 2012. For the most part it hasn't given me any problems. However for the past 3 days the phone has had problems charging. Last night it finally died while I was sleeping, I tried to charge it again, but it wouldn't even stay on. I took out the battery for a few hours, put it back in and then charged it with the phone off. It charged all the way to 100% after 2 or 3 hours.I turned it on to see if there was any positive change and the battery went back to 50%. When I turned it off again for it to charge again it was noticeably less than 50%. Does anyone know how to help me with this problem?

i have experienced this on multiple android handsets that i have, and it is not limited to just the stratosphere. in my experience i've found that:
    1) the charging usb cable was at fault, eventhough i was able to get a charging state and a usb connectivity state. i swapped it out from a cheap one i bought from fry's and my charging issues went away.
    2) you can try discharging the battery all the way down until it depletes. you need a fully and completely discharged battery. ( keep powering it on until it can no longer power on after it discharges)
      a) charge the battery with the phone off. I have found that a complete discharge of a battery has helped resolved my issues in the past.
      b) *for rooted users only* reset battery stats through Clockwork, or use Battery Calibration via Google Play.

  • Nvidia 8600gt with DVI to HDMI cable on Samsung 32'' screen

hi, got setup arch on a friend's pc with the title's featured for viewing...although that is viewable we cannot make it work properly (with the same quality as it is on windows...which is day and night...), is there any options which we can work on them for getting the best quality because of the connection? i tried from nvidia-settings but i cannot find any option for "cable changing"..what should i change to make this work properly? (the current display is 1024x768. he wants big letters for easier reading..)
    ty in advanced

I have nvidia 8400m gs and hda-intel, hdmi just does not work properly. The resolution is by default wrong and does not fit into the screen. If I use 1920x1080 the text is almost unreadable. Further, hdmi+audio does not work at all. I use nvidia-xconfig to set up X and NVIDIA X Server Settings in gnome to choose the TV screen. I have a 32'' Samsung flat screen tv.
VGA cable works for video and sound with an audio cable from laptop headphones to TV PC in. The resolution is quite ok - 1360-768 and sound works thru the tv speakers.
What I have found googling is quite contradictory. But it seems nvidia hdmi on linux is not yet fully implemented. ATI Radeon on the other hand seems to work better.
As the hdmi cables are quite expensive, especially the gold plated ones, I would discourage linux users for the moment to have too high expectations on getting hdmi+audio to work for nvidia cards, at least not on hp pavilion notebooks. It might also be a question of hp notebooks with nvidia not having any connector between the graphics card and the audio card, as the audio is being transmitted over the hdmi port. However, HP is quite uninterested in support, and plucking asunder a laptop is not that appealing to find out audio chips and eventually missing connectors between sound card and video card.
To sum it up, vga is better for the moment.

  • Bluetooth disconnecting on Samsung Stratosphere?

    Hello all!
I have a Samsung Stratosphere, and I use a Plantronics Voyager Pro + Bluetooth headset with it.  I have been having trouble with the phone not connecting to the headset if it has been idle for a while, and I have even had the Bluetooth disconnect in the middle of a call.  It will NOT re-establish the Bluetooth connection unless I totally restart the phone--something I obviously don't want to do in the middle of a call.
Has anyone else had this issue?  Any suggestions for me?
    I'd appreciate any help!
    Thanks!
    Steve

    Hi SouthParkSteve,
I feel your pain; I use my phone all day and I depend on my Bluetooth headset for hours. I can just imagine the inconvenience of having to power off and on to reestablish connection constantly. I checked my resources and I learned that the Samsung Stratosphere is not listed as a fully compatible device for the Plantronics Voyager Pro+ and while most Bluetooth devices will have some connectivity for using the same Bluetooth technology, please note that connectivity is not guaranteed for device not listed as fully compatible. Please confirm this compatibility information at this LINK as the only Samsung mobile devices fully compatible with your headset on our network are the Omnia II & Continuum as per the Plantronics website.
To avoid compatibility issues in the future and be able to take full advantage of your devices' Bluetooth features going forward I recommend confirming compatibility of your devices before purchasing.

  • Tecra S1 - connection to samsung TV screen

I am running XP service pack 2 and want to use a Samsung TV screen as main monitor. On connection and if I re-boot I can see pc screen briefly then just a blank screen.
Can anyone advise on a possible solution?

As Juan already wrote use FN+F5 key combination and switch to notebook display only. After doing this check all options. To be honest I am really skeptic about changing primary monitor but you can try it.
Switch to the TV only and see the options in display properties. If you will be lucky you will be able to define it as primary display. To be honest on most Toshiba notebooks the notebook display is defined as primary display and it cannot be changed.
