Samsung T240 & Screensaver on 10.4.11

I have connected up a brand new T240 monitor to replace an old large two page Viewsonic CRT monitor, all of which are were running on a resolution of 1900x1200. My Mac is a Power Mac G4 (AGP) at 450MHz with the ATI video card that came with the Mac and I am running OS X 10.4.11. The monitor functions without any problem except that when the screensaver is invoked, the screen is blank rather than displaying any image---except if I use the screensaver that just puts the computer name on the screen. I am puzzled by this peculiar behaviour. What could the screensaver be doing that other apps don't, or is there somthing peculiar about a T240 on the Mac. I think the screensaver worked correctly when I had the CRT monitor with the same resolution.

Hi,
I had to use SwitchResX to have a resolution of 1920 x 1200. No native support in my case
But, I have no problem with screensavers. In my case, this monitor is plugged a second display to a MacBook Pro.

  • I can't seem to close the screen on my new MacBook Pro with ext montitor

I have a new MacBook Pro with a Samsung T240 through the DVI link. I can see my desktop on the external monitor when the laptop screen is open, but if I close it the computer goes to sleep and I cannot see anything on the T240.
I have the Bluetooth keyboard and the Bluetooth mouse. The mouse also deactivates until I manually browse for it after I wake the computer up by opening the screen.
I know I should be able to keep the display closed but how do I do this? Thanks!

Let the laptop sleep, then hit a key on the keyboard or wiggle the mouse to wake it up.

  • Calibrating external monitor from macbook pro

    Hello,
I just bought a new Samsung t240 24" display for a late 08 macbook pro.
Its connected from mini display to dvi.
However the colors look really different from what they look on my macbook pro display.
The samsung looks very sharp and bright, however there is a slight blueish cast, in contrast from the mbp display, which looks rather warmer.
I already tried calibrating with the built in mac osx calibration, but it gives me the same result.
Maybe somebody here has a calibrated profile for the t240 or a similar one I can try?
Thanks and really appreciate any help.

I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to let people know there is another way of solving this problem without resorting to buying a DVI adapter:
I've posted a solution here to a similar problem, it has worked for me and for others.

  • Over from PC...Need help configuringing my Mac Pro for FCP

Just made the move a few weeks to Mac. Bought a Mac Pro ( and 2 Samsung T240 monitors) and am upgrading components for use with FCP. I have been editing for about 10 years (mostly volleyball highlight films and fishing videos) in Premiere Pro. I am currently using the Sony Vx-1000 but will be purchasing either the Sony EX-1 or HVR-Z7U to shoot and edit in HD while still doing some work in SD. I do maybe two or three 40 minute videos per year and some other shorter projects. I edit mainly for friends and family....not as a business. Here are the upgrades which I will be doing:
    1. Add 6 GB Ram to the already 2 GB's for a total of 8 1GB chips
    2. Install a Decklink HD Extreme card
These is where I need advice:
    STORAGE...
I am reading lots about external hard drives for editing. I am assuming that FCP would be on the operating system drive and the scratch disk(s) would be firewire (800) drive(s). I also read somewhere that Time Machine is not designed to back up video editing machines. I do not know if that is true with the smaller amount of work that I do. That would probably change how my storage is set up if Time Machine will not be backing up my files.
Overall I am a recreational editor and but would like a system that is current for editing in High Defintion (and I guess Standard Definition at times.)
Any advice would be much appreciated and I am really looking forward to the "Mac Experience"
    Thanks
    Kirk

Thanks for that Nick and Jerry.
I now think that the external hard drive posts that I was looking at were for machines that did not have the capability of adding internal hard drives.
I actually have ordered a 1TB Samsung HD103UJ SATA2 32M (as per the Barefeats tests). Hoping that it would be a suitable internal dive.
For the small amount of editing I do I am guessing that doing a raid would not be all that necessary.
And Nick, I do not think that I was looking for a bootable drive for Time Machine, just something that has a copy of my video clips from my different projects in case I have some sort of hard drive incident. I understand how running Time Machine during editing would not be a good idea, but would it be ok to use it to back up my video files if I just ran it each night after editing. I am taking it that FCP has an auto save feature also for my projects backups.
I had actually already ordered a Iomega Prestige 1 TB USB 2.0 3.5-Inch Hard Drive for the time machine drive. Should I be getting a firewire drive for that instead of USB?
This is a brave new journey.....but I am really enjoying it.
    Thanks agian
    Kirk

  • Options for second Mac Pro display

I have been looking for a second display for my Mac Pro. Since it won't be used all of the time I don't want to spend the money for the Apple display. I recently tried a Samsung T240 24" HD monitor but had to return it because it caused severe eye strain. I can use the 23" Apple display all day long with no problem, but an hour with the Samsung caused eye strain no matter what combination I set for brightness, contrast, etc. The "Apple Expert" at Best Buy claimed that it was because the graphics card doesn't support high definition, but his answers to some other questions didn't impress me. Will I have problems with any HD monitor, or was it this particular Samsung? Any suggestions?

I have solved the problem by purchasing a Dell S2209W display. It is an HD monitor and seems to be working fine with no eye strain. Of course, it is not as nice as my 23" Apple display, but at $239 it is perfectly adequate for use as a second display. I still don't know why I had problems with the Samsung, but I am happy for now.

  • What's the difference between 512M x 72, Quad Rank and 512M x 72, Dual Rank

Apart from the $500.00, what's the difference between the Netlist 512M x 72, Quad Rank
    <http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/64FB4GD32GBK/>
and the OWC 512M x 72, Dual Rank

well, I have exactly the same problem here.

every first time urxvt was started, my screen looks quite similar as the screenshot made by Enunes. And the way to "clean" the screen also the same here.  Then if I start urxvt terminal window again, the screen will stay in clean.  Sometimes (not reproducible)  urxvt can make X crash.
And I don't know if it is normal, I feel the GPU temperature is too high.  I boot the laptop, waiting for 10 mins, there is no any X-application running in gnome3. the GPU temp is about 85 C . If I start a browser, open 4,5 tabs, temp can easily go to 88-90. If I watch some video even youtube online, the temp will be 95 ,97.  the fan works very hard btw.
It seems everything is ok if there is no 2nd monitor connected.
I do have a xorg.conf file to configure thinkpad Trackpoint.

    anybody has any clue ?

  • External monitor on s10e running UNR

I have the s10e running Ubuntu Netbook Remix and i am loving it. However, i am dissapointed with the external monitor output. I have a 22' external monitor which runs at 1680x1050. I have read on these forums that the s10e can support 1920x1200 via its VGA port but in my display properties the highest resolution i can select is 1024x768. There aren't even any widescreen resolutions available! Could this be a problem with the drivers used by Ubuntu? anyone else had a similar problem and know a fix?

Hi ..due my multiboot 4 systems on one... i could say linux driver for Intel GMA 950 ...
My monitor Samsung T240 HD 16:10 works fine at 1920x1200 ..
possible resolutions in ubuntu are (same as in Windows XP) (Vista & Windows 7 can internal 1024x576 only ! external a bit fewer resolutions due driver limit)
    1920 x 1200 (16:10)
    1600 x 1200 (4:3)
    1280 x 1024 (5:4)
    1280 x 960 (4:3)
    1152 x 864 (4:3)
    1024 x 768 (4:3)

    800 x 600 (4:3)
    640 x 480 (4:3)

  • Macbook Pro and Samsung monitor

I bought a Samsung 22inch monitor. It works for my old G4 with VGA analog, but if I hook my MBP to the monitor through DVI all I get is my screensaver on the monitor. I tried detect monitor and nothing happens. Any thoughts ?

The reason is that the second monitor has extended your desktop. It is extra space. If you haven't moved something to it, it's still empty. If you were to close the lid and then wake up the MacBook Pro, then everything would appear on the external monitor. Or if you went into your Displays preferences and dragged the little menu bar icon from one display icon to the other, your menu bar would move to the other monitor. Or you could turn on mirroring and both monitors would show the same thing.

  • Macbook to samsung hdtv

after connecting mac to samsung hdtv with relevant cables ,screen saver appears on tv nothing else
is there something else i need to do .
    would appreciate any advice

When you say +screen saver+, do you actually mean your desktop wallpaper? If so, what you probably have is an extension of your MacBook screen showing on the tv. What is it that you would like to see on your MacBook? on your tv? Your options are:
The same thing on both or mirror.
The main stuff on the tv and just the +screen saver+ (desktop wallpaper) on the MacBook (which is the opposite of what you have now.
    Some stuff on each.
Everything on the tv and close the lid on the MacBook.
The answers to these will determine what you need to do next. If you do nothing, you are able to move your curser or a window to the right off the MacBook screen and it will appear on the tv. The settings can be found in System Preferences/Displays.
btw... the screensaver/desktop thing is very common and I find it humorous. Please don't take offense.

  • Connecting powerbook & samsung LCD

I recently bought a Samsung 40" LCD TV with 1360x768 pc resolution. I was assured I could connect my powerbook to it with a HDMI-DVI cable.
I went to the Apple store in SF to buy the Belkin cable but they didn't have it in stock. They sold me an XtremeHD HDMI-DVI cable (which incidentally is $100 cheaper than the Belkin and no one in the store could explain why the radical difference in price).
But when I connect the powerbook to the TV, the only thing that displays is my screensaver image. No toolbar, nothing. Advice anyone? thanks!

You don't have to mirror displays, but doing so shows the same thing on both displays, sometimes with some funny business on the size on one of the displays. Note that you can "span" displays, by not mirroring, and using the "arrangement" tab to move the virtual arrangement of the displays in relation to each other, as well as dragging the menu bar to the display you wish to have as the "primary" screen.

  • Audio Hijack & Screensaver(s) [Not Working]

I am having a problem with Audio-Hijack PRO & my screensaver, and, I am hoping maybe someone here has come across this.
If I have a recording in Audio Hijack scheduled to go off at 3:00am, it has no problem bringing the monitor out of sleep, however, the screensaver or monitor sleep never kicks back in, and, I am a bit worried that this may do damage to my monitor.
Has anyone ever come a across any problems like this with audio-hijack ?
Another thing that happens is, if I start a manual record of the sound of the system, the screensaver never kicks in, and, the monitor never goes back to sleep.
This is really becoming frustrating, and, i am hoping I can get some answers here. if not, i appreciate you taking the time to read this.
Is there a setting in MAC OS X that you can set so programs running will still allow screensavers?

    Hi,
Did you burn a set of the HP Recovery Disks?  You mentioned that the reformat failed. Is that correct? Did you try a full HP Recovery?  If not, then backup your data to external media.  Boot up to the HP Blue screen and first try diagnostics and see how that goes.  If that is successful, then boot again up to the HP blue screen and try Recovery.
If you don't have a set of the HP Recovery Disks and the Recovery process fails from the HP blue screen then you need to order a set of the HP Recovery Disks from HP. HP Recovery Disks.

  • (10.4.9 update) Samsung d900

although the samsung (sgh) d900 is on the list of supported phones isync says it's not supported. anybody has an aswer to this one? i'm pretty sure it's not the only phone that is on that list and isync says it's not supported still.
    ibook g4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   none

Since the 10.4.9 update, my computer wakes from sleep
and lets me right into my session, even though I have
the security setting to require a username and
password to leave the screen saver and wake from
    sleep.
    Hi ReadyAssist,
The setting lives in the file /Users/[your short user name]/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.screensaver.[numbers].plist
    For example mine is at
    /Users/minus/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.screensaver.0005362d7j84.plist
See first if there are duplicates of that file and if there is no other way out -
Remove this file and re-establish your setting in System Settings (Module Screensaver and Module Security)
    Cheers,
    Walter

  • Macbook Pro 13" 10.9.2 Mavericks Samsung Monitor

    Hi
I have just bought a Samsung LED Monitor SD390 and want to connect it to my Macbook. The sales assistant set me up with an HDMI cable that has the little plug that goes straight into the side of my Macbook (where the lightning symbol is)
When I turn the Samsung it just alternates between an analog and HDMI logo in top left corner and my Macbook Pro doesn't show any additional monitors in the System Preferences > Displays area
Have I got a monitor that will work with the Macbook and how do I connect them and make this work. It was bought for my new job and would like to get this sorted asap otherwise I need to take the monitor back and get one that works!
    Thanks
    Macbook Pro 13"
    OS X 10.9.2
    Mavericks

Yes, this was one of the first symptoms.  Also, shortly after screensaver started, screen would freeze.
I went to OSX Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (COMBO) at:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1726?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Combo installation did solve the problem and has been working well since installation.
    Hope this helps.

  • Power Management for HDD's and screensaver

    Hi all
Here some specs of my 'old' trusty sys:
    Intel 2.26GHz
    1GB DDR
    Gfx nVidia V6200
    1xATA(Seagate) + 4xSATA(Maxtor's) HDD's in the range of 200-300GB each
    Samsung SyncMaster 930BF
    LiteOn and NEC DVD/CD reader/writers
The HDD's brings me to a little question, in the past (before ArchLinux) i've used to have power managment to put the 4 SATA HDD's (S.M.A.R.T supported) to sleep after 10 or 15 minutes inactivity or so. Is there something similar for ArchLinux? A GUI for Xfce4 for that kind of power management would be cool but is not nescessary.
And I was thinking of a cool screensaver, any sugestions?
I thank you'll in advance for any suggestions and advices.

As for the screensaver, the GLMatrix screensaver is pretty nice if you have direct rendering working.
I think you can use hdparm to enable hard disk power management.  It is a CLI-only tool, but why not use CLI?   Tbh, it is much easier for me to do configuration stuff in CLI rather than use a GUI for it.
