Can't be done unless your Samsung is hooked up directly to one of your Macs, or supports Airplay, or you have an AppleTV, or you have an a wireless video transmitter.  See the options here:

  • Mini dvi to HDMI no longer working to t.v.

Hello. For months I was able to use the mini dvi to HDMI to use my Samsung HD t.v. as a monitor from my Macbook Pro. Suddenly one day when I started it up, the t.v. said "No Signal" and then the Macbook Pro goes to sleep. If I take out the mini dvi it will wake up again, but the moment I put it back the t.v. goes back for a second the way it usually would when it first recognizes the mac, then the mac goes to sleep again. If I look at the built in display, I can see that it isn't even detecting the Samsung is hooked up any more. Could the video card have already gone bad? It isn't even six months old.

I'm having similar problems. I have a Toshiba Regza 1080p HDTV and frustrated that I cannot get my audio and video to work selecting one INPUT source on the TV. I used to stream Netflix with the minidiv and a separate mini stereo cable and it worked! until I moved and voila it stopped working. Grrrrr. I switched to a mini stereo y cable when a technician told me perhaps my audio cable was bad. Tried every combination of display setting on my Macbook Pro (OSX 10.5.8) and I'm stumped. Little to no sound setting on my MBP as some forums advise that I select an HDMI output. BL: My MBP sends audio out (thru HD Colorstream 1 audio input) and video using minidvi-HDMI to Toshiba's HMDI 1 (tried HDMI 2; etc.) Nothing works. Since only one input may be selected thru the HDTV at any given time I cannot figure out what I need to do the get the audio from Colorstream HD1 and HDMI video to synchronize. I just read about the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter Pro w/Optical Audio cable and wondering if that will push my audio from MBP and video to the Toshiba HDMI port thus allowing me to select one input source on my Toshiba 1080p HDTV and perhaps being a solution? Before I go out and buy this I need some help from you smart folks. Thank you!

  • Mini Display to VGA  Gives Me Wiggles

I'm just in the process of migrating from my old G5 Leopard to my new Mac Pro 2.8QC Lion and so I've got my old Samsung 204b hooked up to the Intel with a Mini Display to VGA adapter. However the display shows what looks like scan lines in the bacground, very faint, and the open window will randomly become distorted with jagged edges. Any advice is appreciated

I've probably jumped the gun a bit because I can't get (or don't know how) to get to any prefs duing the migration. All I have on the intel screen is the migration assistant and no obvious way to open a panel.
Earlier I did try bypassing the mini port and connecting to the DVI with a DVI to VGA connector and got nothing. In fact I had a black screen until a few reboots on the Intel.
Once during the migration the Intel asked if I wanted to install new software and restart. Uh, no, not during a migration, but during that point I was able to go to monitors and the res and seemed to be set correctly. I'll have to get back to answer your question on hooking the Samsung to the DVI port.
On edit: IIRC, there was only one clickable option for refresh rate, I think it was 60Hz.

  • Can photos shared from my computer be displayed at their original pixel size, rather than resized to maximum fit on my TV?

I am having a problem with my Samsung TV hooked to my AppleTV and viewing images shared from my MacPro.  The sharpness of the viewed images is less than the original image.  I  am careful to make sure the originals are smaller than 1900 pixels wide, to avoid resizing.  However, even smaller images are automatically resized fully to fill the screen, and I feel that somehow there is a slight but  noticeable loss in quality in the process.  Can I control how Apple TV presents images to my TV  to prevent resizing?  ( I also have tried a Western Digital Live TV module which also shares with my MacPro, and it does allow me to prevent resizing, but it doesn't seem to help)  Is it possible that my new TV (Smart TV) is inherently messing up the images slightly? (sorry, this is a non-Mac question)
    Eilert

    Hello Winston.
I was afraid of that, that images would be automatically resized by AppleTV (at least, that is what I think you are saying).  In general, resizing of any photo will tend to reduce sharpness a bit, so at times it would be preferred to not do so.  No luck, with Apple TV, it seems.  I also suspect that there is something about the tV firmware which is contributing to the problem, and I have contacted Samsung, but no specific info on that yet.  Thanks for the response.

  • My external monitor flashes random colors after waking up from sleep?

Whenever I wake up my Mac Mini, the monitor flashes thru many different colors..... red, blue, greeen..... maybe some other ones. Sometimes it does this for a few seconds and then gets to the log in screeen and sometimes it does if for 30 seconds or longer. I have a Samsung Monitor hooked up via HDMI cable. I have had this computer for close to a year and it only started doing this over the last month. Once I can log in I don't seem to have any performance issues, I'm just woried it will get worse over time..... Maybe never stop flashing.

Hi, installed any software/updates in the last month?
I wonder if it's a variation of this, of which I've seen many different symptoms...
    Resolution
Move the mouse or trackpad cursor over the center area of the login window so you can see the user icons. Click on the icon of the user that you would like to login as, type in the user's password, and press Return.
If the login window is configured to show only the name and password fields, type in the user's name and password into the fields, and press Return (even if you cannot see the rest of the login window).
    Additional Information
This issue will not occur if the display is not sleeping when the account is logged out. Use the steps below to confirm that the account is not configured to log out automatically while the display is sleeping:
Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General.  Click the padlock to unlock the preference pane and enter your admin password. Click the Advanced button at the bottom, then see if the option "Log out after N minutes of inactivity" (where N is the number of minutes) is enabled.
Open System Preferences > Energy Saver and configure Display Sleep to occur after the account is logged out, by dragging the slider to a number of minutes that is greater than N was set to in the previous step.
Important: If automatic log out is not needed, disable "Log out after Nminutes of inactivity" in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General. This will also prevent the issue.

  • Betreff: T440s - Only 1024x768 on external monitor (DVI, Ultra Dock, Win8.1/Win7)

EDIT NOTE: This message was moved to the top of the thread in order to assist us with an escalation. For all future post and commments please continue posting in this thread.
One more victim here.  T440s (fully patched, UltraDock, lid closed, external TrackPoint keyboard), Win8.1 (fully patched), HDMI, Acer T232HL touchscreen monitor.
Volcomtx85's posting (over 50% failure rate in a corporate setting) should warrant some attention.
Since there is a mix of Win7, Win8 and Win8.1 in the thread (presumably with different drivers), and different modes of monitor connectivity, the two points of commonality in the reports would seem to be BIOS and motherboard hardware.  If so, let's hope it's the BIOS.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello,
I have a T440s sitting in the Ultra Dock and a Samsung 2343bw hooked up by DVI.
On both Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 I can only set the resolution of the external screen to 1024x768. When I select  a higher resolution, both internal and external monitor go black for a couple of seconds and when the desktop comes back it's still 1024x768 on the external monitor. I tried the following three drivers:
    1) Deinstall display driver manually and let Win 8.1 pick a driver automatically, version 10.18.10.3318 (03-Oct-2013) gets installed. With this driver, both displays can be set to their native resolution. Unfortunately, the external display goes black once in a while and switches back on after 3 sec. The monitor itself is unlikely to be faulty, since it works well on my T400(+Dock).
    2) Install driver from Lenovo driver matrix, you'll get 10.18.10.3282. With this driver, the external monitor only displays 1024x768 as described above.
    3) Get the driver for HD 4400 from Intel website. It doesn't install voluntarily, but there is a workaround: http://www.intel.com/support/graphic...hd+4400+driver
I tried it and only get 1024x768 on the external display, just as with driver (2). If I connect the monitor by VGA, I get the blinking-error described in (1).
Hence, the external monitor is not usable, what is highly unsatisfying.
Can anyone confirm the Issue/problem? Is there a solution?
    thanks,
    niclas
    PS:
    - Bios of T440s is updated
    - I installed the monitor driver from Samsung
    - (1) is not an option in Win 7, only on Win8.1, since Win 7 doesn't find any driver for this card
    - I am happy to provide further information when needed
    - Edit: The screen works finde (DVI&VGA) on my T400 with dock.
    - Edit: If I connect the screen via VGA, no

  • Need advice on avoiding problems with new MacPro

As a long time Windows user I'm now staring into the abyss with a new MacPro quad.
It was ordered without a monitor - arrived yesterday and I purchased a new Samsung 226BW - hooked everything up and it worked right on the first try.
My question is, are there any common mistakes that I might fall into with a new machine?
    What to watch out for?
    Precautions that I might take?
    MacPro 3.0 Quad   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Good maintenance is important:
Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility. For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.0 is now Intel Mac compatible. TechTool Pro provides additional repair options including file repair and recovery, system diagnostics, and disk defragmentation. TechTool Pro 4.5.2 is Intel Mac compatible; Drive Genius is similar to TechTool Pro in terms of the various repair services provided. The current version, 1.5.1, is Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.
OS X automatically defrags files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems.
I would also recommend downloading the shareware utility TinkerTool System that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old logfiles and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the commandline.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    1. Retrospect Desktop (Commercial - not yet universal binary)
    2. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
    3. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
    4. Deja Vu (Shareware)
    5. PsynchX 2.1.1 and RsyncX 2.1 (Freeware)
    6. Carbon Copy Cloner (Freeware - 3.0 is a Universal Binary)
    7. SuperDuper! (Commercial)
The following utilities can also be used for backup, but cannot create bootable clones:
    1. Backup (requires a .Mac account with Apple both to get the software and to use it.)
    2. Toast
    3. Impression
    4. arRSync
Apple's Backup is a full backup tool capable of also backing up across multiple media such as CD/DVD. However, it cannot create bootable backups. It is primarily an "archiving" utility as are the other two.
Impression and Toast are disk image based backups, only. Particularly useful if you need to backup to CD/DVD across multiple media.
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.

  • Apple Security Updater 2007-004 1.1

well i hope it didnt mess anything up ? i have applied the Apple Security Updater 2007-004 1.1 not under software update but from a download at macupdate pages i later found out that this update was not for my system as it didnt show up in SU i was wondering if there will be any downfall from from applying it or it just re-applied the same update from the most previous version and the install for other systems was slightly modified ???
thanks for your time and help

I installed the update yesterday, then went home. Today when I booted up the computer I had some weird things happen.
A.) The dual monitor display is reversed. It only straightens out if I physically switch the plugs from each monitor on the back of the G-4. I've never had any problem with dual monitors before on this trusty old work-horse. I'm using old CRT 17" Mags. But I had a Samsung 203B hooked up. That used to work, now it doesn't line up straight, and won't show up as a left monitor either unless I switch the plugs.
B.) In final Cut Pro the program no longer recognizes my player. I use two, a Canon XM1 and a Sony DSR 20. I can control the canon but get no display.
Funny stuff since the upgrade yesterday. But now what do I do?
    Thanks

  • Alternatives to renting boxes

I am a new Verizon FIOS user. I am renting 2 dvrs (one with house wide) from Verizon and need to add a set top box for 2 rarely used HD TV sets which already have pre-wiring. So I'm looking at alternatives for renting a set top box ($11+) which I would use with a splitter so its cable goes to both TVs since they will never actually be used at the same time. I looked in the local stores and on the web and the only available box to purchase seems to be a TIVO box but - unless I am missing something - that does not make economic sense. After purchasing the tivo box, I would need to pay a monthly fee to Tivo (which is higher than the FIOS rental fee) for it to work) plus renting a card from Verizon. In addition the Verizon website says that with a cable card I will not be able to access the other dvrs. So what would be the financial incentive to purchase a box instead of renting from Verizon? Yet people do it, so I must be missing something. Could someone please explain? Thank you.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Pretty much Tivo or renting from Verizon are the only current solutions.
For a TV that doesn't need any thing but the Locals, you may be able to get away without any boxes.  It does need to support DIGITAL Cable signals.  And a few TV's (and internet boxes including some blu-ray players) support a verizon app that can get about 70 channels (assuming you are subcribed to those channels).  I have one Samsung Tv hooked up that supports the app and Digital cable signals and so can get many of the programs without a STB.
The only incentive to buy TIVO boxes is if you prefer them and want to not pay Verizon the full rental price(still must rent the cablecard).  There were some other companies making boxes, but they are gone.  Some PC cards also exist

  • K8N Neo2 - no post

Ok, I had this machine running nicely for about 8 months. So, today morning I needed my 2nd mouse for another machine so I took it (MX610's wireless thingie from usb-hub connected to I/O-plate USB-connector) and went to another room. When I came back the machine was shut down. It didn't boot so stripped it to minium hardware but there was no image on screen (Samsung 193P+ hooked via 6800GT DVI) when I booted it. I attached my D-Bracket and it showed 2 yellow led's and two red. According to manual two green and two red means that my mobo is "Processor Initialization - This will show information regarding the processor (like brand name, system bus, etc...)"'ing. The led positions matched. What should I do? RMA the board?
    Specs:
    MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum
    3000+ Venice with Thermalright XP-90
2 gigabytes of Samsung UCCC 3-4-4-8
    XFX 6800GT AGP at 400/1100 / Gainward Ti4200 300/600
    4 HD's, all SATA (2 Samsung 160GB on Adaptec 1210AS & 2 Seagate 200GB, works fine on other machine)
    LG optical drive (4163BB)
Logitech MX518, MX610 and UltraX (Belkin USB<->PS2) attached to Trust USB Hub and generic Digital PS2 KB
    400W be quiet Colorline (20A 12V)
    What I've tried:
Clear CMOS, took the battery out, swapped graphics cards, swapped HD's, swapped PSU, completely rebuilt the computer, swapped KB's (PS2)

CPU swap is impossible, I don't have any other CPU. The same PSU (it is quality one, not those what you get for fifty bucks) runs fine on moderately overclocked Abit AN7 + AXP-M2400+ (w/ 5 HD's) (which I am currently typing)
Results were same with Antec 380W (18A? on 12V rail)
The graphics card was the only component overclocked at the moment. Memoryswap didn't help, already tried. I'll return the board and see if they get it work/replace it :|
    E: BIOS 1.B, I think.

  • External Display Causing Kernel Panic

I have had a Samsung monitor hooked up to my ~2008 iMac (Intel; see below for more information) for about 3 months and I've had no problems.  A week ago, I started getting the "You Need to Restart your Computer" screen due to a kernel panic.  I followed Apple's directions for troubleshooting a kernel panic (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3742), and I narrowed the problem down to my external Samsung display.
The kernel panic happens every time my external display is connected and the screen saver has been on for about 8-10 minutes.  I only get a kernel panic when the external display is connected.  See below for my computer information and the kernel panic log.  How can I fix this problem?

Solution: The GPU heat sink temperature sensor was faulty.  I couldn't figure out what part number the temperature sensor was, so I just ordered a new GPU heat sink off e-bay for $12.  The heat sink assembly contains the temperature sensor.  I installed the heat sink (including removing/applying thermal paste), and voila!  The kernel panics are gone.  The faulty heat sink temp sensor was causing the temp. to read hotter than it actually was, so when it read too hot (GPU diode ~120 Celsius), I got a kernel panic.
After I installed the new heat sink (with new GPU heatsink temp. sensor), the GPU temperatures read normal, and the Apple Hardware Test showed no problems (before it was giving an error code of 4SNS/1/40000000:TG0H).
Ahh, the sweet satisfaction of fixing this problem myself for $12 without ever having to deal with Apple.

  • How to hook up Mac mini w Samsung Le37R82BX tv?

    Hi,
I'm planning to purchase a Mac mini and use it with my Samsung LE-37R82BX LCD TV. Detailed specifications for the TV:
    http://www.zigzag.am/product.php?id=0147922
The questions I have before committing to buy:
    1) Can I hook up the mini with the TV without distorting the picture? I don't want to have a separate monitor, and my main usage occasion would be viewing photos, videos, therefore no distortion is a must. I'm fine with having black stripes on the side of the picture, just don't want stretched image. The max resolution of the TV is 1366*768.
    2) If the hookup is possible, what converter do I need to buy? I already have a HDMI-DVI converter (used it with my previous PC), is it ok to hook it up with the Mac Mini's Mini DV to DVI cable? Or should I buy a mini-DV HDMI adapter?
    thanks a lot in advance,
    Gergely

I use the included mini-DVI to DVI adapter with a DVI to HDMI cable and my picture is great on my 24" LG LCD HDTV. The mini should be able to provide that resolution without issue as long as it can read the resolution output from the TV accurately. Apple suggests that you connect the cables in what some think of as reverse. Start with the TV and work back to the Mac mini so that the mini gets a good read on the resolution requirements of the TV.

  • I have a macbook pro 5,3 white I am trying to hook up to a samsung hdtv.  I have used a mini dv to hdmi adapter but I get no sound on my tv.  What can I do to get sound?

I have a macbook pro 5,3 white I am trying to hook up to a samsung hdtv.  I have used a mini dv to hdmi adapter but I get no sound on my tv.  What can I do to get sound?

The Mini DisplayPort-to-HDMI adaptor will only pass video in most cases. You will need to run a separate audio cable along with it. Likely a 3.5mm (male-to-male) cable. Or a 3.5mm (male) to red/white RCA (male) cable. Just depends on what audio input ports your TV has dedicated to the HDMI input.

  • Need help hooking up my macbook from 2009 to my samsung B2430HD LCD monitor

can not get a clear picture when hooking up my macbook to a 24inch  LCD samsung b2430hd I have a mini dp to hdmi and hooked up the other end of the hdmi cable to my monitor but it isnt perfect quality it looks a little blurry. someone please help me! should I get a mini dp to vga and hook it up with a vga connection? I also read that I should change the 60 hertz to a lower one. Why wouldnt it work with HDMI I thought HDMI was the best quality? The links are in your history, one click and you'll have them and you can post them for all to see.
Would take to long to find them all with good information. But this is one.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2355403?start=0&tstart=0
    And then i tried this:
    http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20090828224632809
    Didnt work either.
The maximum resolution for the monitor is 1080p. I have no problem getting this from my computer. When i use the HDMI i get 1080p, when i use VGA i get 1920 x 1080. Hmm
