  • Problem booting Solaris 10 on ProLiant server after installation.

    Hi all!
I have a brand new HP ProLiant DL360 G5 server. It contains 6 internal
hard drives. RAID 5 is configured on these drives using built-in HP
Smart Array P400i controller. I've just installed Solaris 10 8/07 on this
server. Solaris requires a driver for P400i controller. I'm using Driver
Update CD created from HP provided ISO image. Solaris 10 is
officially supported OS for DL360 G5 server.
    Installation proceeds as expected:
    1) At the begining of Solaris installation, Driver Update is used to
load HP driver for raid controller. During installation, disk is
recognized as c1d0t0 (the only disk in system); one partition is
    created on this disk.
    2) Disk is devided to 6 slices:
    c1d0t0s0 - swap, 4GB
    c1d0t0s1 - /, cca 32GB
    c1d0t0s[3,4,5,6] - /zones/[a,b,c,d] - each cca 160GB
    3) At the end of installation, CPQary3 driver is installed to target
system without any errors reported. No errors are reported during
    installation at all.
After reboot, GRUB is started. It shows boot menu containing two
    options:
    - Solaris 'normal' boot
    - failsafe boot
PROBLEM: Selecting 'normal' boot leads to immediate system restart.
According to documentation, this case occurs when PCQary3
    driver is not installed.
I'm able to boot using 'failsafe' option in grub. After entering single
user, I load PCQary3 driver to runtime using 'install-du' command.
I'm also able to find instaled Solaris using 'install-recovery' and mount
its root volume to /a directory. Necessary driver IS installed inside
/a/kernel/drv/ directory. Options 'bootpath' in /a/boot/solaris/bootenv.rc
file is set up correctly pointing to device associated with /dev/dsk/c1d0t0s1
device. Also GRUB is able to recognize UFS filesystem for boot partition.
    I've already tried (without success):
    1) Use RAID 1+0 instead of RAID5
    2) Create only 3,5GB partition instead of 700GB large one.
    3) Place / on c1d0t0s0 instead of c1d0t0s1.
    4) Re-create boot archive using 'bootadm update-archive -R /a'
So, everything seems to be installed correctly, but system cannot boot.
Do you have any ideas how to fix this problem?
    Jozef

Sounds like an issue I just had with a brand new X4150, installation and failsafe worked fine, but normal booting led to immediate reboot of the server. This was due to an incompatibility of solaris and intel's newest generation xeon chips.
You can still boot 'normal' solaris in 32-bit mode:
hit 'e' at the grub menu, 'e' again to edit the 'normal' boot entry and add 'kernel/unix' after multiboot. This should boot up solaris in 32-bit mode. From there, download and install the latest patch set (125370-06 and 127112-05 are fixing this issue). After that you should be fine.

  • SQL server 2008 Installation media

    HI all,
I am trying to install SQL server 2008 express, and in the "SQL Server Installation Center" i select "New SQL Server stand-alone installation or Add features to an existing installation" After selecting that option a window pops up and prompt me to "Browse for SQL Server 2008 Installation Media"
Now, what exactly is "SQL Server 2008 Installation Media"? how am i suppose to locate/browse the installation media on my computer?
i am totally new to SQL server and i am self-learning it from a book, the problem is that the book does not explain where to browse for instillation media!
    my system info:
    Windows 7 Home premium
    64-bit OS
    AMD 2.60 GHz
    6.00 GB RAM

This is a solution for Windows 7 users who used the Web Platform Installer (I'm going to call it WPI).
1 - Make sure you have power shell installed.
2 - Install the sql 2008 SP1.  google it and download it.
    Now comes the detailed part...
You have to get a hold of the installation files without using WPI.   The WPI stores the installer executable on your computer and you have to run it and then get a hold of the directory it extracts before it deletes it.    You need to locate the WPI installation file and then run it manually.  Mine was located at...
    C:\Users\**username**\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Web Platform Installer\installers\SQLExpressAdv\12A6B9C2237817DEEEB3DCE22AFFA25B6794850C
Of course you substitute your own username.   You may need to reveal hidden folders.   If you can't find it try running a search for the SQLExpressAdv folder.
In that folder you will find a file named "SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU.exe" or something close to it. Run it and either on the first or second step you will see it extract a bunch of files.   Don't go any further after it runs that extraction.   Go to that folder and copy all the contents it extracted to a new folder and whamo.   That's where you will point your sql browse box to.
Now you can uninstall, set up servers,  whatever it is you were trying to do.

  • After sql server 2012 installation, I have changed sql server database engine service account from network service user to system user. What is disadvantages of this process?

         After
sql server 2012 installation, I   attached my production db. Because of some reasons, i
changed sql engine account from network service user to system user by means of sql server configuration manager.
         Now , there isn’t
a problem at sql server running system.  But
    I have doubts that
     this can produce problems later. Because  sql server database engine account must have privileges that listed below;
Log on as a service (SeServiceLogonRight)
    Replace a process-level token (SeAssignPrimaryTokenPrivilege)
    Bypass traverse checking (SeChangeNotifyPrivilege)
Adjust memory quotas for a process
    (SeIncreaseQuotaPrivilege)
    Permission to start SQL Writer
Permission to read the Event Log service
Permission to read the Remote Procedure Call service
While sql server installation, setup gives these
privileges to network service user automatically, but changing user by means of sql confugarition manager does not give these
    privileges.
Now, system user has privileges listed below. And sql server has been running for 1,5 months without any problems.
Log on as a service (SeServiceLogonRight)
         Bypass traverse checking
(SeChangeNotifyPrivilege) (Everyone user has his privileges. So i think that system user has this privilege also)
    What problems can occur because of this situation? Shall i give other privileges to system user and restart sql server or not? And how can i give these privileges to system user listed below;
    Replace a process-level token (
this can be set from user rights assignments)
Adjust memory quotas for a process
(this can be set from user rights assignments)
Permission to start SQL Writer (
    ? - give advice )
Permission to read the Event Log service (
    ? - give advice )
Permission to read the Remote Procedure Call service (
    ? - give advice )

Our server is  windows server 2008 r2 enterprise edition. I have looked the bunch of permissions in user rights menu  that is in local security policy settings gui.
    And i have seen those permissions below were not granted to system user;
    Bypass traverse checking (SeChangeNotifyPrivilege)
Adjust memory quotas for a process
    (SeIncreaseQuotaPrivilege)
So, briefly you say, don't panic ?

  • SQL Server 2012 installation and to default user database files to a particular path

Hi, I am working on SQL Server 2012 installation on one of our test boxes and I would like to configure the sql server install binaries and all the system databases but for tempdb to be in my C and tempdb on a different drive and once all this is set up,
whenever a developer creates a new database without specifying the path for the mdf & ldf files. They should be defaulted to a path like "D:/Data file" & "D:/Log file" for instance instead of being created on the C drive.
    Thanks in advance.........
    Ione

    Hi,
You can of course set default location of database through management Studio please refer below link. Once you change default location even if you do not specify location it would take default one.
    http://sqlandme.com/2013/03/18/sql-server-changing-default-database-location-for-server/
I would advise you not to keep files on C drive let it be dedicated system drive also its quite possible that SQL server service account would not have privilege on C drive so after you move tempdb SQL server would not come online as tempdb files cannot
be created . Tempdb is always recreated after SQL Server starts so you just need to change location once using Alter database command
See example mentioned in below link for how to do that
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345408%28SQL.90%29.aspx

  • The Server Core installation option is recommended for servers running Hyper-V

    Hi,
I installed Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 on my machine and upon running BPA it says that
The Server Core installation option is recommended for servers running Hyper-V
I don't understand what it meant by re-installing hyper-v core instead of the full installation. My Hyper-v is a stand-alone Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 that is the free one.

  • Server-side installation of Headstart

We've got a live database (8.1.5) with Headstart (2.1.2) installed, all the application's objects, forms, code libraries have been generated using Headstart.
I've created a test database, generated my applications tables from the original repository there, and I want to run my existing live Headstart forms against the test database but I'm unsure about the Headstart server-side installation.
From the installation guide, I can see that I need to run insthst.sql and hstuseri.grt, but I haven't yet got a Headstart Template Package owner. I know that in the live application, the Headstart Template Package owner is the owner of the Headstart objects.
I'd like to know if I create a Headstart Template Package owner in my test database, do I then run insthst.sql and hstuseri.grt, and is there anything else I need to do.
    Thanks,
    John.

In your test database, you need to have all of the Headstart runtime objects. There are a couple of options for how
to do this. These are described in the User Guide Chapter 8, Runtime Environment.
You will use insthst.sql to create the objects.
If you use a separate Headstart schema, then you can use hstuseri.grt to create the required grants and synonyms
from your application owner schema to the Headstart schema.
Depending on how your users log onto the application, they will also need access to the Headstart objects.
    Regards,
    Lauri

  • Headstart Server Side Installation

    Hello,
We want to use Designer 6i with Headstart 1.2.1 patch 10 to 13.
I know that you have to migrate the applications (incl. QMS) with the repository of Designer 6. For this migration I use a separate PC.
On the other PC we have installed Designer 6i with an oracle 8.1.7 database (Unix).
Know I want to install the Headstart Server Side installation for Designer 6i.
After the installation i find a lot of errors in the insthsu.log. The first error is that the ci_application_systems view doesn't have a version column. I found out that the ci_application_systems of 6 not the same is as the ci_application_systems of 6i.
    Wat are we doing wrong?
    Thanks
    Leon

    Leon,
You are trying to run the Headstart Server Side Installer of Headstart 2.1 against a Designer 6i Repository. This is not possible, because the Repository meta model has changed considerably in 6i.
Patch 13 allows you to use the Headstart 2.1 Template Package with Designer 6i, but it does not allow you to use the Headstart 2.1 Utilities with 6i. For that you need Headstart 6i, which is currently in Beta. If you have an Oracle consultant who is experienced with Headstart on site, you can join the Beta program. Contact your Oracle Consulting representative for more details.

  • MDM Server : NetWeaver installation is not necessary?

I have been assigned in a project which will require the usage of MDM for ironing data information between our Siebel and SAP system. I have got the information that in order to install MDM server, NetWeaver installation is not necessary.
I guess this is correct but from your experience, is it also recommended?
The installation will be on Linux with ORACLE DB.
    Thanks in advance,
    Loukas

    Hi Loukas,
if you want to use MDM, you (at least) need:
    - a Database Server, Oracle is fine
    - the MDM Server
    - MDM Console for Repository maintenance
    - MDM DataManager for viewing data
    - MDM ImportManager for importing data
    - MDM Syndicator for exporting data
You definitely do not need the whole Netweaver stuff - no application server or anything like that. However, if you want to integrate MDM into your system landscape, SAP XI is recommended to act a a message broker between any system and MDM. I don't know the requirements of XI.
You can run MDM Server on a single machine, together with the database and all the client tools can be on different machines.
I hope this helps. If you need further information, we'd need a more specific desciption of the requirements.
    Best regards,
    Martin
