  • Inserting Clip Art In A Pages 09 Document

How do you insert clip art in to a Pages 09 document? I am new to iWork after using Appleworks for many years. I have many CDs of Nova Art Explosion Clip Art that I want to use in my documents. I can not seem to find any information on how to insert clip art. All help greatly appreciated.

    John,
Just to let you know Pages does not use .wmf and .pict is mostly history now.
*The main formats that Pages will use are:*
.jpeg, jpeg2000, .tif, .png, .gif, .pdf and .ai saved with .pdf preview.
Of the *Nova Art Explosion Clip Art* the most useful will be the vector .eps files which Pages will convert to .pdf when imported.
*Best is to open and convert the .eps clipart in Preview*
    Which does several things:
    1. It converts them to .pdf
    2. It converts them to color managed cmyk
    3. It shrinks the image selection to the image's bounding box ie gets rid of all the background and only selects the image.
    4. As long as there is no opaque background drawn as part of the clipart, you will have a transparent background.
    5. It will save the file as a very small .pdf file
    6. The pdf file will be viewable in Finder on the *Icon Preview* or in CoverFlow, also when you view it in your *Open dialog box*.
*There are 4 ways to import the clipart*
    1. Drag and drop it into Pages from Finder.
If you drop it into text it will become an inline graphic and act as it it was a character in the text, moving with the text.
If you drop it on a non-text area it will create its own image box and fill it.
If you drag it onto an image placeholder box it will either neatly fit into the image box or be cropped, however the box has been set-up.
    2. You can use +Menu > Import > Choose… > browse to image > select > OK+ This will drop the image into the middle of your page view at its original size in its own image box.
    3. You can make a collection of clipart in a named folder then drag that folder into the top pane of the Media Browser:
    +Menu > View > Show Media Browser > Photos+
When you click on the folder in the Media Browser the contents will be displayed in the preview window underneath from where they can be dragged into the Pages layout or onto image boxes.
    4. Pages has something called Shapes which you can add by going to the Shapes menu on the window Toolbar. These are native Pages drawings. They can be scaled, colored and contain text or images which are cropped by the shape.
Right at the bottom of the Shapes menu is a pen tool which lets you draw your own shapes, however it is one of the worst drawing tools I have encountered on the Mac.
Shapes can be imported from .svg files. .svg is an open vector or vector + bitmap file format readable directly in most *Web Browsers*. Unfortunately they are not directly supported in Pages, but they can be imported using svg2key into Keynote as shapes, from where they can be cut and pasted into Pages.
OmniGraffle has sets of clipart called Stencils, these can be cut and pasted into Keynote and possibly into Pages, but requires you to have a copy of OmniGraffle on your machine.
A great deal of commercial and free clipart is available on the Net, much of it substantially better than the crude, cheap looking Nova material which was mostly "sourced" from PC clipart nad has that sort of style and color palette.
ClipArt can be very good and can be very bad, make sure you select the appropriate style and format for your work. You can scour through the Nova collection for the few good examples and make your own selection converted to useful formats such as .pdf and keep them in labelled folders which you can then select from previews using large *Icon View* or CoverFlow in Finder.
You can also copy and paste clipart from AppleWorks.

  • Playlist for Mac on Clip Jam

I've owned several SanDisk Clips - (Clip, Clip+ and now Clip Jam). Before the Jam, I've never had any problem creating and playing playlists for mp4 podcasts.  But I cannot figure it out on the Jam. On my old Clip+, I merely created an m3u file in Mac's TextEdit and dragged it over, along with all the podcasts to the audiobooks folder on the Clip+. It worked with or without the #EXTINF: prefix. It worked every time. But my tricks don't work on the Jam. No matter where I place the podcasts or m3U file, it doesn't work:I can get the Jam to recognize the playlistSometimes it shows/plays the first song on the listUsually the playlist is emptyI don't have regular acess to a windows machine, so the example in the owners manual is no help.  What changed in the Jam that the old way no longer works? How can I make playlists on a Mac? Thanks for the help

Playlists on the JAM and SPORT need to be M3U. The playlist must be in the same folder as the songs, so a playlist with songs from both card memory and internal memory won't work.  The Jam and Sport have three Go lists that you can create on the player. Each can hold up to 100 songs. Unlike the Clip+ though, only one song at a time can be added to a Go List. I don't use playlists on my Clip Sport, but do use them on my Rockboxed Clip+ and Clip Zip.  There seem to be plenty of  issues with how podcasts and audiobooks are treated on the Clip+ and Clip Zip. There might not even be support for playlists for podcasts or audiobooks on the Clip Sport and Clip Jam. I suggest that you put the podcasts in the music folder if you want to use playlists with them. Are these podcasts properly tagged? If the player is still returnable, you might want to consider returning it and getting a Clip+ or Clip Zip. There might also not be complete MP4 support, and might be issues with playing long MP4 files. The Clip sport and Clip Jam are much more geared to playing mp3 files than MP4 ones.

  • Can't activate Clip Jam with Audible Manager

I've seen lots of forum posts about problems with Clip Sport / Clip Zip / Clip Zip+ and Audible Manager.  Add the Clip Jam to that list. Before you can transfer books to the device with the Audible Manager, you're supposed to "activate" the device.  When i try this, I get "Failed to set activation data to device."    Other SanDisk devices have the same problem, but none of the workarounds to solve the problem for other devices are working for the Clip Jam. Anyone heard of a fix or a workaround for the Clip Jam to be activated with Audible Manager? Thanks.

I just got the solution from Audible support.  It's similar to the solution used for the Clip Sport:  the drive letter assigned by Windows to the Clip Jam needs to be changed from the default. Instructions for Windows 7:With the Clip Jam connected to the computer, select Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer ManagementIn the Computer Management dialog, select Disk Management in the left hand pane. One of the disks will be the Clip Jam.  Right click on it and select "Change Drive Letter and Paths..."Select the current drive letter and click on "Change..."Assign drive letter B: to the Clip Jam (assuming you don't already have another device there, e.g. a floppy drive) Under Audible Manager, in the lower right pane where it says "Sansa Clip Jam," make sure that the "Internal" radio button is selected.  With the new drive letter assigned, you can then activate the device. Good luck!

  • HT1918 Why am I not able to access my balance that is posted to my itunes for purchases? I'm directed only to the credit card information page or I'm asked for the pin # from the itunes card; which was thrown away when I was credited with the balance?

Why was I able to redeem my ITunes card and have a balance that is shown next to my email address as an available balance to purchase ITunes for my IPod, but when I try to purchase any songs/albums, I am directed to the credit card/billing information page whichis telling me I need to provide that information in order to buy siad albums or songs when I have a credit already from the card?  I also get directed to a page where I'm required to provide a code from the card I had already used and obtained a balance from, therefore, the card was disposed of as I had no longer any use for it; so I thought....
How am I supposed to be able to use the credited balance that's already posted to my ITunes account?
Am I missing a step or something? Because I am honestly lost as to what to do or how to proceed from here! Please, if you know what I need to do, I am desperate and very frustrated looking for answers.

I have an Apple ID and  a password, but when I try to sign in I am asked to review my account. When I click okay, it takes me to the billing information page and since I do not use or have a credit card anymore, I want to change the payment option, but there does not seem to be anyway to change this, as the only options available for payment are three different types of credit cards. How do I edit this information so I can pay by PayPal or have the payment option as none? I would like to be able to purchase music using a PayPal account. I have sent three emails to support and have not been able to fix this problem. Would appreciate any help on how I can change the payment information.

  • The "Reset Firefox" button is missing from the Troubleshooting Information page in Waterfox v. 26.0.

Upon opening Waterfox I see a message at the bottom of the screen indicating that Waterfox is slow in opening. When I follow the link to find a fix for it, I get the page instructing me on how to reset the programme via the Troubleshooting Information page. However, the "Reset Firefox" button shown in the example is missing from the page in Waterfox.

You only see the reset button on the "Help > Troubleshooting Information" page if you use the profile that is marked as Default=1 in the profiles.ini file.
If you do not have the "Reset" button then either use the Profile Manager to create a new profile or use the Profile Manager to start with the current default profile to get the reset button in Firefox.

  • No Media Transfer Protocol ("MTP") on Clip Jam ? Coming soon?

I notice that my new Clip Jam doesn't seem to support the 'MTP' (Media Transfer Protocol) - whereas I believe older Clip models used to ? Is this something that will be introduced by a Firmware Upgrade at some point ? My current Firmware is '1.03' which I believe is the latest at the time of writing [July 2015]. Cheers John

No, the clip jam and sport are MSC only devices. MTP is not supported and cannot be added in FW. it is a hardware limitation.

  • Where is all the support information on GOOP

There appears to be a shortage of support information for using GOOP in LabVIEW. Does anyone know where I can find more on GOOP and are there any developers out that are using it.

    Hello,
Since it is a relatively simple implementation of object-oriented programming, GOOP only has a few support resouces that I have found...specifically, a few NI KnowledgeBase entries and a few threads on the Developer Exchange...and of course there's the GOOP info page.
I am currently working on a project in which I use several GOOP classes, so I have a basic understanding of its use, limitations, etc. Did you have any specific questions?
    Hope I can help,

There is an issue with SD card I have which is a standard 16GB sandisk card  that if I reload the card it refreshes and the files come out in some random order for podcasts. The only way for it to come out in the numberic alpha order is to do a full reset by turning the player on and holding the on key for it to then shutdown and do a full reset.  That seems to be a bug in my view as the player can sort it in numberic alpha order when it wants to and shouldn't have to do a full reset for the player to do this.   This was a problem in the old firmware as well. Happy it is easily corrected by doing above  but most people will not be able to figure this out and in fact I came across this solution by accident only because my player actually froze and then resetting was suprised to find the files in proper order on the sd card. Did mention in another post although of course as happy worked for me but really think it is a bug.
