Sandisk Flash Drive Compatibility
I have Sandisk Micro USB Flash Drive, is it compatible with MAC OS? I am having trouble copying files to it.
I have Sandisk Micro USB Flash Drive, is it compatible with MAC OS?
According to Sandisk, no. While they do make USB flash drives that are compatible with Mac OS, like their Fleur or Crossfire USB flash drives, the Micro USB flash drive is Windows-only compatible.

USB Flash Drive Compatibility between Mac and PC?
Hi,
I own an iMac 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM and just got a new job where I'm using a PC. At work they all use flash drives to transfer data back and forth to computers etc. Would a flash drive (let's say a Kensington since that's the brand I've seen the most at work) that works in a PC at work be compatible with my iMac at home. I know Kensington makes them compatible for Mac and PC but just wondering how the data would transfer onto my Mac. Is it readable, does it depend what I'm transferring over?
Message was edited by: spiralgirl{quote} guy there said they haven't yet perfected the flash drives to switch between Mac and PC and work well so I was a little surprised at this. {quote}
That is pretty much a standard reply you get from someone that doesn't know anything about macs. I've used those things for years without any problems, but I have been using my ipod as a disk lately because I always have it with me. It's also another less thing I have to buy and carry around. -
G-4 Stopped recognizing SanDisk Flash Drive
Have used the San Disk Cruzer Driver for over 6 months. Tonight the G-4 will not recognize it or any other Flash Disk. I have tried both drives in a PC and they are still recognized. Can't think of any changes I have made to the G-4 that would have caused this problem.
Hello! Try inserting it and opening disk utility and see if it is seeing it.If so you may be able to repair it. Problems like that sometimes pop up if the drive was removed before being unmounted from the desktop. Tom

Can I put my Itunes library on a flash drive instead of in my laptop?
I need to clear space on my laptop and wondered if I could put the whole Itunes on my SanDisk flash drive (32 GB). I'm not very computer "nuts and bolts" savvy.
Yes. Drag it over, launch iTunes with the Shift key held down, and point it there.

Why can't I copy a 6Gb video to 128Gb flash drive?
Hello all, Ok I am new to macs and also iMovie and I cannot figure out why my movie that I edited on iMovie which is only 5.95 Gb will not copy or transfer to a 128Gb Sandisk flash drive or a 32Gb SD card... I finalized the video and exported to my desktop then tried to drag and drop to the two separate devices. A pop up comes up with a blue triangle and a yellow ! and said that the file is to large to copy to disk... Or something along those lines.... How can a 6 Gb file be toooo big to fit in a 128 or 32 Gb device? Someone please help!
Thank you i found disk utilities... however i was reading in another area of the community that if I reformat it on my mac that it wont work on a pc.... The whole reason for doing this is so i can give my rough editted footage to my buddy so he can combine all the footage from our unit and make one big video, and he has a pc. Also if reformatting is the cure to this problem how do i know what to reformat it to. It doesnt tell me partition sizes for each option.

How to properly make a copy of Mountain Lion on a USB flash drive?
Please Help!
I tried to do the manual copy of Mountain Lion on my SanDisk cruzer blade 8gb flash drive but every time Disk Utility "finishes" the restore it displayes the following message:
'Failure Restore'
Could not restore - Invalid argument.
I tried 4 different times and the last one on a 32gb SanDisk flash drive but I get the same message.
I followed the steps on this address:
http://lifehacker.com/5928780/how-to-burn-os-x-mountain-lion-to-a-dvd-or-usb-fla sh-drive
Help would be much appreciated.
Thanks! For people encountered the same problem with Daniela21, you don't need any 3rd party software. Problem occurs because the partition on the disk (not the disk itself) is mounted. Just right+click or cmd+click on the partition beneath the disk and select unmount. Note it's important to unmount just the partition and not the disk.

Hope it works .. -
Can't see flash drive icon on desktop
Why doesn't my Sandisk flash drive icon appear on my desktop when I insert it into my USB port? Thanks.
1. It needs more power than the USB port provides. Try plugging it into a powered hub or a port on the computer itself.
2. It is formatted with an incompatible file system. Check to see if you can select the drive in Disk Utility.
3. The Finder preferences for viewing disks are set to not show this type of device.
4. The file system is corrupted or the device is kaput.

Flash Drive won't Open after Yosemite upgrade
I recently updated my MacBook Pro 13' to OS X Yosemite. I went to pull some files off of my 16 GB SanDisk Flash Drive and I couldn't get my Mac to recognize it. I was able to open it before the upgrade. The flash drive does show up in Disk Utility, but that doesn't allow me to open it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I just had a scheduled call with apple support. I showed the representative via screen sharing the error message and the accompanying comments I receive each time when I try to open my Kingston DTVP password protected flash drive. His take on it was that the driver software of my flash drive is not compatible with Yosemite. In theory I have two options:
1 - Upgrade the driver software of my flash drive. I suspect there is only a slight chance that this is possible given that Yosemite is so new so Kingston probably doesn't have an update yet. (I will check with Kingston but their technical support is not open on weekends.) Unfortunately replacing my flash drive is not an option because my employer allows only 2 password protected models to be used on company computers.
2 - Downgrade to the previous operation system (I think it's called Mountain Lion) which I cannot do myself because I don't have TimeMachine on. If I want to do this, I most likely will have to pay for apple support.
I have a MacBook Air 13-inch, purchased in June 2013. -
hey, i did quick check to see if there was another thread on this
my problem is that my macbook does not recognize my flash drive... i have a little 4.0gb sandisk flash drive that i put all my pics from my parents desktop and transferred it to my 10 year old dell laptop hand me down.
now i plug it into my new macbook and its like its not even there... i look on finder, i dont know what to do... please helpYes usually you can tell by checking the size of the drive - if for example the "hl-dt-st dvdrw gs21n" is the sandisk the size should tally more or less.
This way you can see if there is a hardware fault on the sandisk or if the Mac detects it but won't mount it. Also confirm (if it is the sandisk) the format which should show up in DU. -
I just purchased a SanDisk 4 GB Flash Drive which I hook up to my USB dock. I have been using a 2 GB SanDisk Flash Drive which seems to be operating differently than the 4 GB. I know you are not supposed to remove the flash drive when it is blinking because you may loose some of your data. My 4 GB does blink like the 2 GB. Is it OK to remove it when the light fades in and out? When I go to eject it by moving it to the trash, the light fades in and out. Do I have a defective flash drive? My 2 GB does not do this. I hope I have explained this right.
In addition, some flashdrives have two components.
My SanDisk has only one desktop icon, but my Memorex has two icons, for some reason.
If a flashdrive mounts with two icons, draw a circle around both with the mouse to select both, and drag both to the trash.
As noted, the lights mean little, and on some flashdrives, the light is on the underside and cannot easily be seen.
I wait for a minute or so before removing the drive after ejecting it. -
Is a flash drive a good way to save my music
so that I don't occupy so much space on my laptop. a note I update my Ipod frequently.(it's only 8 GB). recommendations are welcome.

When I used to be into marketing, I would be given a large number of mostly name brand flash drives at each trade show. These are the same flash drives you'd buy in any store, but with marketing materials, press releases, white papers, etc. stored on them. Compared to hard drives, these fail at much higher rates. I am always careful to use the "safely remove hardware" utility to remove the drives. Just yesterday, a co-worker had her 6 month old Sony flash drive fail, and I was luckily able to run a data revcovery utility to get some of her data back.
I have had pretty good luck with SanDisk; they seem to be more reliable and to last longer than most of the other brands.
I know what you mean dude. I've had several flash drives "die" on me. I'd run those flash memory diagnostic programs on them and every sector would pass but somehow any computer I connect them to would ask me to format the flash drive... I'd load it up using both Mac OS X and Linux (Knoppix) but both would also prompt me to format it. It's like the flash drive just decided to implode or something. Granted, this has only happened to about 5 of the many flash drives I have owned. First one was a 64 mb one (Sandisk) back in 2003 and the most recent one was a 16 gb (Patriot) one last year. I've also had the best luck with Sandisk flash drives.
I DO NOT work for Best Buy. Whatever I post are just educated guesses or common sense. -
Finder crashes in 10.7.5 with sandisk ultra 16GB flash drive
I have tried using 3 different 16GB SanDisk Ultra flash drives, and all 3 lead to a finder crash. When the drive is first put into a USB slot it will appear to mount and the contents are visible. I then eject the drive and put it back in. At that point I may get the message that the drive was not propoerly ejected, or I may not. Sometimes I have received the same message when I try to eject the drive. Under any circumstance, the finder seems to crash (and is listed as not responding in the force quit application) and it will not restart appropriately.
I do not believe this is a hardware issue because if I boot into BootCamp with Windows 7 running the flash drive can be mounted and unmounted without any difficulty. Further, it can be mounted and unmounted on several PC's that I have tested. I also don't believe this is a formatting issue because the flash drive can be mounted and unmounted successfully in another iMac that is running OS 10.6.8.
I have wondered if this is related to some program running in the background, so I have booted in Safe Mode, but when in Safe MOde the flash drive won't even mount. Lastly, I have reset the PRAM and this hasn't helped.I appreciate your help. Here is the full report:

Issues re: using SanDisk Cruzer Mini flash drives on a Mac
Given some strange behavior, I'm wondering whether SanDisk Cruzer Mini flash drives cause known problems when used with Macs.
Two problems I've had:
1. Not being able to re-save edited Word documents back to the flash drive without first renaming those files. If I try to re-save a document in the normal way (i.e., by just clicking 'Save' to overwrite the existing version on the drive) I get error messages about 'permissions.'
2. Getting 'insufficient disk space' error messages when trying to save to the flash drive, even though according to Get Info the flash drive still has plenty of space left.
Also, does completely wiping a flash drive using 'zero disk' (in Disk Utility or other programs) work exactly the same on a flash drive as on a hard drive?
Thanks. It would seem SanDisk Cruzers and Macs have some compatibility problems. You are the second person with problems in two days. I'm not sure why you should have the problems you describe as USB flash drives should just work. I can suggest you try repartitioning and formatting the drive for the Mac rather than using the FAT32 format that usually is how the flash drives come from the factory. Try the following:
Extended Hard Drive Preparation
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder. If you need to reformat your startup volume, then you must boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the number of partitions from the drop down menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (only required for Intel Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
This may help, but if you plan to use the flash drive on a Windows machine, then you will need to restore it to the FAT32 format.
And, yes, zeroing the disk works the same on flash drives as on hard drives. -
My iPhoto photo library disappeared after I used a SanDisk Cruzer Fit USB Flash Drive
Hi! Not sure if these 2 things are connected, but I bought a SanDisk Cruzer 32GB USB Flash Drive. I dragged my documents over and copied them on to the flash drive. I didn't have iPhoto open. I didn't drag any applications, photo library folders, or anything else over to the flash drive. I just dragged over 3 file folders of work and personal documents (MSWord, Excel, etc.) over to the flash drive. It took some time to copy all my documents over, so I left it overnight.
The next day, I decided it might be a good idea to also back up my photos from iPhoto. Interestingly enough, nearly all my photos had been deleted--save for photos from the last 3 - 4 weeks or so. That's right, a decade worth of photos were gone. I went online, Googled the problem, looked through this community and verified that I did not accidentally import one library into another or move (or delete) the backup iPhoto Library folder or anything. I even checked the flash drive. Nothing. Just the 3 folders worth of documents that I'd copied over.
Has anyone heard of a flash drive somehow corrupting or deleting photos from an iPhoto library?
I'm stumped. I have dug through other regular folders where I'd stashed some .jpgs so I could burn a CD for family, so I have put back about 338 photos from a library of thousands of images (some which are, of course, irreplaceable). The irony is that this last year, I'd been scanning in photos from actual physical photo albums to digitize them and have them handy on iPhoto... not knowing that they would disappear. And, of course, the double-irony is that I was using a thumb drive to back up my photos when they disappeared. If I wasn't so bummed, I'd be laughing right now. Thanks for the helpful thoughts LarryHN. I'm having a Mac guy look at my MacBook Pro in the next day or so to see what he can find out. I described the issue on the phone... and like you, he said that saving my documents to a thumb drive shouldn't affect my iPhoto library.
One reason I bought the thumb drive was to back up my iPhoto library, but the time I got to that, it was already gone. I've thought of getting Time Machine (and have checked out other systems), but the reviews are so mixed, I'm dragging my feet on coughing up the cash right now.
When I launch iPhoto, I only see the last few weeks' worth of photos. Oddly, photos I imported 3 weeks ago appear, but are in a folder dated November 2012--when I know I took those and imported them in January 2013. So that's weird...
When I got to iPhoto Library, I have an Auto Import folder with nothing in it. "My Pictures" folder has nothing as well. I did hold down the option key while opening up iPhoto, but only my recent library (a few weeks' worth of photos) appears. I'm using iPhoto 2011 (6.2.3). I can only hope my Mac guy can help... -
I am trying to connect my sandisk titanium flash drive to my macbook pro. the light is on but it is not recognizing it on the computer. any ideas
Do other USB devices work on your MBP?
Does this USB stick work on other MBPs?
There is a possibility that the stick requires more power than the MBP delivers. Try it on a powered hub.
Ciao.
