Sansa Fuze Problems

Hello, I use Arch Linux i686, and when I try to plug in my 4GB Sansa Fuze, it fails to be detected by Linux as a USB mass storage device, even when in MSC mode. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
Here is my dmesg | tail output:

 Mine just did this but only with certain songs.They are .mp3 files but every time I try to play them the screen goes bright white. Takes about 20 seconds to shut off the player holding the power switch in the up position. They all though play fine in my computer. Interesting notation is that the ones causing this problem are LAME3.99.5 encoded. I just tried to go into my EQ settings and got the same results! Seems the v.2 Fuze is going out on me!

  • Sansa Fuze MP3 Compatibility In Tiger vs. Leopard

    Greetings!
    Don't flame me for not going iPod but I have my valid reasons. In any case, I have a Sansa Fuze that refuses to come up on my desktop or in Volumes, though when plugged in it shows up in the System Profiler.
    I have trawled the Sansa forums and engaged Sandisk Support with the following results and suggestions. All of which I have performed with no success, though two Sansa forum posters who are running Leopard on their Air and MacBook have reported no problems with their Sanza Fuze showing up on their desktop and being accessible as MSC devices.
    Here are the results of the info I have received from both Sandisk Support and forum posters.
    1. Update firmware = Done, no change.
    2. Format device = Done, no change.
    3. Rename device volume using a PC = Done, no change.
    4. Force device into MSC mode by placing device into "Hold" then holding down the "Rewind" button while plugging in the device to the computer = Done, no change.
    5. Try the device with other Macs = Done, no change.
    All to no avail.
    In the meantime, I have bought a microSD card, use a card reader and transfer/synch using SynchTunes. One extra step but I have and can use the MP3 player of choice.
    On another Apple forum it was suggested to use Flip4Mac. I have the freebie version of Flip4Mac installed though don't see if this would help if I upgraded to the full version.
    Thanks!

    No help here. Too bad, so sad.

  • Sansa Fuze and Amarok / General MTP support in linux

    Hey fellow archers I'd like you to share your experiences with MTP devices in linux, especially in connection with amarok. Im kinda trying to manage my Fuze with Amarok and MTP which doesn't work out very well at this point. I'm well aware that this device can be managed as a mass storage device. I simply prefer it this way. So what tools and devices are you using ?

    Well, something certainly broken with libmtp and the sansa fuze. I suspect the poor sansa firmware though. Tried several diffrent players with mtp support (rhythmbox, banshee, amarok) and every single one had problems copying music to the fuze. Sometimes the player hangs after copying, sometimes it doesn't add the copied songs to its database (still see them in amarok and can copy them back to the hd). Then sometimes the songs get copied and added to the db but the player simply hangs when playing some of the files.
    No problems when using the device in msc mode. I'd like to dig a little deeper on this but have only little time at hands right now.
    Edit:
    At this point I'd just use the fuze in msc mode and manage it with amarok but when copying a big number of files to the device amarok starts a lot of kio_file processes and kde gets unusable to the point it crashes.

    graysky wrote:+1 for Banshee.  You also should seriously consider rockbox for the sansa.
    Rockbox is really great. I had a rockboxed fuze v1 and broke it. Sent it in and got a v2 back. So no rockbox for me in the forseeable future. Someone wants to trade for a v1 ?

  • Sansa fuze not showing up

    I have a Sansa Fuze v2.  I registers in /var/log/messages.log , but not when I use lsusb, and also not in thunar.
    One other odd thing, but not necessarily a problem is when I watch
    tail -f /var/log/messages.log
    I plug in the fuze and it registers as low speed USB.  When I hold the left scroll wheel while plugging it in, it goes to high speed USB.
    It worked for a week after I got it, so I don't think it's the cable.  I already tried another one.

    Set USB Mode to MSC.

  • Is there a workaround for moving. videofiles to Sansa Fuze

    Hi all
    I have bought a Sansa fuze 4 gb to my wife as a christmas gift. Musik and photo are Ok to just drag and drop. But videofiles needs to be converted in order to be loaded at the player. And Sansa has its converter just for windows.
    Is there a way to go around this matter? Can I rename them or?

    There was a player known as VLC and it was a free-running video
    software that could convert and/or run most file types. Used to be
    called Video LAN or something? I don't remember exactly; but I
    removed a version from one of my older Mac OSX systems.
    Changing the name won't change what's in the file, so that isn't
    as easy as it could be; there's more involved.
    Can iMovie see those kinds of files? I am not sure if there is a
    converter built into that or not; I've never used iMovie.
    {Oh, if your computer is running the 10.4.1 system as noted in
    the signature line of your post, you may wish to see about an
    update to 10.4.11 and that would include also getting a newer
    Java, QuickTime, several browsers (free) and a Combo 10.4.11
    update file, & perhaps the last Security Update. And be sure
    to repair disk permissions, maybe even boot into SafeBoot at
    some intervals and use disk utility to repair them, during the
    installation processes for these update bits; if not at 10.4.11.}
    There may be some support links and information forums for
    the Sansa product, but I have been reading about a few issues
    some owners of a few Sansa items have experienced; in a few
    cases, the support at Sansa isn't what it could be. (Lacking.)
    In any event...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Sansa Fuze Firmware Update

    I have an old Sansa Fuze that's been sitting idle for a few years now.  I took it out of the drawer today , and I've since formatted it. It's still functional, but it's running firmware version 01.01.11A.  I've tried using the Sansa Updater, but it "fail[s] to download files".  I then attempted the manual update process, but the player simply doesn't respond after disconnecting.  I've spent hours on this today and have found no resources to help.  I attempted updating it to 01.02.26, with no luck or suggestions for a solution.Anyone have a similar issue that they resolved or a solution that may work?

    Are you trying to upgrade the Firmware on Hardwired computer or Wireless ?
    Connect the computer with the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the Linksys router .
    Download the latest firmware and Save it in My Documents on your computer .
    Open the setup page of the Linksys router .
    Go to the Administration tab and Click on the sub tab Firmware Upgrade .
    Browse and Select the file for firmware and try to upgrade .

  • Help transfering files to a SanDisk Sansa Fuze

    From what I've read online, I need to put the disk into MSC mode, then when I plug it into the USB it should be automatically mounted.  When I try, it's not even listed under 'fdisk -l'.  When I plug in a USB flash drive, it's automatically found and mounted without problems.  Do I need a special library or something?
    Thanks.
    e:  Got it, it was because I was plugging it into a USB extension and directly into the computer.

  • Sansa MP3 device

    I just pruchased a Sansa Fuze MP3 player. It won't work on my computer but will on my wife's Macbook. Sansa tech support says that there may be a problem with my USB port but every other device works with those ports. The Fuze icon doesn't show up on my desktop but does on the macbook. any help with this?

    Could there be an issue in the player being seen
    in the operating system you have in the older Mac?
    There may be some kind of driver or other additional
    item needed in the older computer, if not supplied by
    the OS X version installed into the non-MacBook unit.
    {The signature line says OS X 10.3.9, etc; perhaps
    there is a driver for that older system. That may be
    the thing non-compliant; since it likely is not the USB.}
    Does the Sansa device you have require a different
    software to work in the Mac, such as Windows Media
    Player? Or "flip for mac" in order to run? I haven't
    used a windows media player in a Mac for awhile,
    some web sites needed that for content years ago.
    I read where there isn't a new version for Mac, but
    you may be able to find a source for an older WMP.
    (If that would be the missing link in this issue.)
    ' mac os x - windows media player 9 ' - may be too new/old?

  • How do I delete a playist on fuze v1?

    I have a 4 g fuze and use rhapsody to add songs to my fuze. Somehow I got a playlist on there that I didn't create and it is empty. I looked in the manual but did not see how to delete it in there, and I can;t figure out how to delete just the one. Anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it?

    Go to Settings/System Settings/USB Mode and switch to MSC. Connect and look in your computer at the SANSA FUZE drive and you'll see a Playlists folder. You should be able to delete from there.
    I don't use MTP mode but you can also go to Settings/System Settings/USB Mode and switch to MTP. Look for a Playlists folder in there too.

  • Getting my mp3 player to work with rmmod ehci-hcd

    Dear all,
    I have a sansa fuze mp3 player. It can be configured to be in either MTP or MSC mode;
    I'm using the second, meaning that the computer should see it as a simple mass
    storage device. I remember using that a couple of years ago with Debian and I'd simply
    plug it in and it would work.
    Now I have the following problem: when I plug it in, I cannot see it with fdisk -l:

    My problems with this solution are:
    1. It's a little bit inconvenient to do this everytime
    2. The first time that I did that I had an external drive plugged in and it got a little bit
    screwed up.. Had to run a disk check and fix some errors.. So I'm a little bit cautious
    about doing it again.
    Could you please enlighten me as of:
    1. Why do I need to do the rmmod thing to get my sansa player recognized?
    2. Is there a way to overcome this procedure?
    Thanks a lot in advance..

    To work in FF and IE, you need to have  an <object> tag and  an <embed> tag.  Note: the embed tag was never accepted by  the W3C web standards but it works in browsers that require it.
    So your code should resemble this:
    <object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="366" height="56">
    <param name="movie" value="Player-skin.swf">
    <param name="quality" value="high">
    <embed src="Player-skin.swf"  quality="high" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"   width="366" height="56">   </embed>
    </object>

  • Refreshing Database

    I have a Sansa Fuze v01.02.31A with a 32GB SD.When i start it always takes a long time to refresh database.How to do avoid it?Where Fuze store database data?

    How old is your Fuze?
    If the card slot is starting to go, losing and then regaining the connection, then you might get the constant refreshing--and that's a hardware problem, not fixable for less than the price of the Fuze even if you can find someone to do it. That might explain your Rockbox problem too--no one else has reported that happening here.
    It might be time to start looking for a replacement player.

  • Massive Memory Leak Caused by USB Connection

    I have a Sansa Fuze MP3 player.  I noticed when I connected it via USB both to an iMac 27" late 2009 and MacBook Pro 15-inch early 2011, both machines would grind to a halt. get very hot, and run the CPUs at full blast.  The Finder would quickly become unresponsive.  There were huge (like 500 GB) virtual memory files.  Disk Utility could not repair the drive.  Reformatting the MP3 player using its System menu finally cured the problem.  Seems like Lion should have a better way of handling misbehaving peripherals.

    i forgot to include one line, but i didn't see why it made a difference:
    ConcurrentMap<Connection, Boolean> connPool = this.createConnPool();
    for(;;) {
      sok.receive(dgPak);
      ObjectInputStream ois = new ObjectInputStream(new ByteArrayInputStream(dgPak.getData()));
      MyInterface foo = (MyInterface) ois.readObject();
      foo.assignSharedMap(connPool);  // <-- forgot to include this one line.
      foo.doStuff();
      foo = null;
      System.gc();
    }the number of de-serializations still equals the number of " +public void finalize();+ " invocations.
    note: i never add new connections to the pool. it "looks" like a ConcurrentMap
    does not allow objects that reference it to compleley die. (if this behaviour is as to be expected , my apologies, and could you explain a safe way for multiple objects to share a common Collection ?)
    this code works fine:
    for(;;) {
      sok.receive(dgPak);
      ObjectInputStream ois = new ObjectInputStream(new ByteArrayInputStream(dgPak.getData()));
      MyInterface foo = (MyInterface) ois.readObject();
      foo.doStuff();
      foo = null;
      System.gc();
    }at this stage of de-bugging i could have tested with just a regular java.util.Map<Connection, Boolean> but forgot. i am using a
    completely different approach now, so i'm not going back to test, though i bet it is related to java.util.concurrent. .

    I have an A305-s6872 that I bought a few months ago.  I bought a MagicJack, one of those things that allows you to make phone calls from your phone.  No matter what I tried, I could not get it to update.  One of my friends came up with a workaround, but I have to update it each time I use it.  Ok, I can live with that, but the other day, I bought my husband a Sansa Fuze, mp3 player.  I could not get that software to download on this computer at all.  However, my husband has a Toshiba L355D-S7901 & updated perfect.  I'm thinking there is something going on with this machine, other than it not liking the magic jack.  Anyone have any ideas or experiencing the same type of problems.

  • USB Mouse freezes as GNOME starts

    Hello,
    I have just bought a new mouse to replace my old Wireless USB Logitech mouse which was perfectly supported by my system but I have a problem with my new one, a Roccat Kova (USB and driverless).
    With GDM, my mouse works. Then I type my password and log in. GNOME is starting and my mouse is still working. But at the time the menu and task bars appear (GNOME is loaded), the cursor isn't movable anymore and others buttons don't work as well.
    My mouse, which is driverless, should for example change LED colors when I press simultaneously two of its buttons. It doesn't in this situation. It is a complete freeze.
    However, my USB keyboard still works and I can open up a console. Then I use a small script I've found on a blog (initially designed to make the MP3 player Sansa Fuze work with Linux) :
    sudo rmmod ehci-hcd
    sleep 1s
    sudo modprobe ehci-hcd
    Then every connected via USB is stopped and 10 seconds later, everything works, even my mouse.
    That's it!
    Here is an Xorg log : http://pastebin.com/3byrHv79
    and the mouse section in /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier     "Mouse0"
        Driver         "mouse"
        Option         "Protocol" "usb"
        Option         "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
        Option         "ZAxisMapping" "4 5 6 7"
    EndSection

    Another detail : Once the script has rebooted USB support, you have to scroll with the wheel of the mouse to reactivate it.

  • Connected to Mac, now wont work!

    I have used my Sansa Fuze, without issue  until i tried to hook it up to my Macbook(usually I use my Windows PC. I had to download Overdrive onto my Mac, but was having problems getting the Mac to recognize the Fuze, so I unplugged it without going through the steps to "safely remove hardware". After that, I get an error message which says, "Not enough space for Music DB. Please free 90 MB." Then it turns off. It wont reset. It appears empty when i look at the files on my computer, but full according to the Fuze. Please HELP!

    Seconded that you should hook up to Windows and use chkdsk. Or (actually the same function)  hook up to WIndows, right-click on the drive and go to the Properties tab. Tools/Error-Checking/Check Now.  That should fix the 90MB error.
    But you are going to still have problems switching from Windows to Apple. With Overdrive you were using Windows digital rights functions by way of  built-in parts of Windows Media Player.  If you look at Settings/System Settings/USB Mode it was probably in Auto, which would send it to MTP Mode, controlled by Windows Media Player (which was found by Auto on your Windows computer).
    But, obviously, there's no Windows Media Player in Apple. When you connect to the Apple, Auto sends you to MSC mode instead--the basic, universal USB connection, not going through Windows Media Player.
    Here's the twist. MTP mode (via WMP) and MSC mode are two separate pipelines into the Sansa. Once the files are there, the Sansa sees them all. BUT your computer can only see the files sent by its own pipeline/USB Mode. The files sent by MTP are invisible to the Apple because they went over via MTP.
    So to really get going with the Apple, assuming you have copies of your files, you should format the unit (Settings/System Settings/Format)--which deletes anything you put on. Then set Settings/System Settings/USB Mode to MSC and put your files back on where the Apple can see them. .
    The two modes are confusing. But they are on there to give the Sansa more flexibility. MSC, incidentally, works with everything--even Windows--so it's the better mode for most people. It seems there is a version of Overdrive for Mac, so maybe that will work via MSC mode. You could probably find more info from the Overdrive site or your library.
