Sanyo VPC-CG65 mp4 playback

Whenever I try to play my .mp4 files with Quicktime that were recorded using a Sanyo VPC-CG65 camcorder, the playback appears to be all block-like with many different rectangles muffling the video and making it unwatchable.
Yet, I am able to play the files on my MacBook laptop just fine.
Any help/suggestions?

Thank you. I knew about the $20 software from Apple for playing MPEG2. But it just makes sense to me that if my existing editing software made by Apple can play MPEG4, then there must be a reasonably priced camcorder that captures video as MPEG4 that can be edited by iMovie. It makes sense to me but maybe I'm wrong.
I know there is a $200+ Aiptek camcorder that should work with my computer. I wanted to buy a camcorder that was one of the cheaper models but not a complete piece of junk.
Maybe someone knows whether the guy is right or not about the Sanyo Xacti? I don't understand why I wouldn't be able to save the files to my PB and edit them with iMovie HD. But I don't want to go ahead and buy the Sanyo as the way to find out the answer to my question.

  • Sanyo VPC 1000HD H.264 Not Compatible with QuickTime or FCP

    I recently aquired the Sanyo Xacti-VPC 1000HD.
From the results I've observed so far, it's a terrific camera for the price.
My problem, and I know this has been touched in this forum to a limited degree, is that FCP and QuickTime see the MP4 (H.264) files generated by this camera as green screens.
Sanyo suggests that regressing to QuickTime 7.1.6 is the way to go since it supposedly works while the newest update QuickTime 7.2 strangely only creates a green screen... and some user bad language.
I was hoping my upgrade to Leopard (wow 300+ improvements) would cure this issue with FCP 6.0 but noo, green is "in" these days and that's all FCP 6.0 will show me when I import any of those files.
No doubt this situation will be rectified over time and I know this camera is relatively new to the market BUT I would like to find a means of cutting it's output NOW.
I tried the one solution offered in an earlier posting of regressing to QuickTime 7.1.6.
It did sorta work briefly (choppy video playback but no green screen) but later launches of FCP 6.0 just resulted in FCP launch aborts.
Another poster suggested that iMovie '08 w/QT 7.2 handled Sanyo h.264 files okay but apparently iMovie '08 on my MacBookPro (purchased spring 2007) prefers green as well.
I do hope someone can forward a workable solution as I really like this camera.
They have a demo video available at through the Sanyo site of some music performance that proves someone is doing nice editing with the Sanyo VPC-1000HD h.264 files, though I have no idea what technology they are using?
Anyway, any and all responses would be greatly appreciated.

About QTs encoding size the clip is not forced to 4:3 resolution of 320x240, instead it is resized to fit in the boundaries of a 320x240 rectangle. i.e. a 640x268 clip I had, was resized to 320x134.
-it supports non-mod16 resolutions like the one above or 317x240.
    found some info on profiles:
QuickTime only supports up to Main Profile. None of the High Profile settings such as 8x8 intra are supported by Apple. If you try to encode your x264 video with these settings, it will NOT play on QuickTime.
    AVC/H.264 Profiles
The AVC/H.264 standard defines four different Profiles: Baseline, Main, Extended and High Profile (which themselves are subdivided into Levels):
    - Baseline Profile offers I/P-Frames, supports progressive and CAVLC only
    - Extended Profile offers I/P/B/SP/SI-Frames, supports progressive and CAVLC only
    - Main Profile offers I/P/B-Frames, supports progressive and interlaced, and offers CAVLC or CABAC
    - High Profile (aka FRExt) adds to Main Profile: 8x8 intra prediction, custom quants, lossless video coding, more yuv formats (4:4:4...)
Does anyone have more info on the specs of Baseline 1.3?
Google was not my friends on that one.

  • Choppy mp4 playback in iTunes

Until tonight, I've never had issues with video playback in iTunes. I have a library of mp4 video files that I've played successfully in the past with little or no video quality issues.
All of a sudden, none of my videos will play correctly in iTunes. The video is incredibly choppy, with a new frame or two playing every 30 seconds while the audio plays relatively normally. If I open the same file in another player (VLC or WMP), the file will play correctly with no choppiness. In fact, I can play the video file in both players at the same time with zero quality loss, so there's no lack of computer power that would cause this in iTunes. To the best of my knowledge, nothing changed on my system to prompt this - I was literally in the middle of watching a video when it happened.
After experiencing this issue, I upgraded iTunes, Windows, and my video card drivers to the latest versions/drivers (rebooting several times in the process), but this did not help. Next, I followed all of the instructions in the relevant support document (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1718), also to no avail.
For the heck of it, I rented an HD movie from the iTunes store and had the exact same problem. I originally thought that this might be an issue with my media, but it is clearly not.
I often stream video from my PC to my AppleTV, and this is also experiencing the exact same choppy video (as you would expect).
I have no clue what else to try. I would prefer to watch the videos in another player, but this is sadly not an option if I wish to continue using my AppleTV. Has anyone else experienced this (or a similar) problem? I'm at my wits' end, and very unhappy that I spent so much time transferring my video library into iTunes. Nothing substantial changed on my computer that should have caused this, especially not in the middle of watching a movie. Any help or further ideas would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Solution: format computer because iTunes is terrible. Problem "solved," I guess

  • Sanyo XACTI HD1000 MP4 and Final Cut Express HD

    Hi there,
I hope that somebody can help me. I am completely new to video and just purchased the Sanyo XACTO HD1000 Full HD camera which is not AVCHD but H.264 with file extension MP4.
As I do have some footage with FullHD 1920*1080 I'm getting somewhat frustrated about not being successful to get anything done in FCE HD:
The Log/Transfer option doesn't work as FCE complains about either unsupported format and/or invalid directory structure.
Dragging and dropping a mp4 to the upper right shows a green screen. When playing then I do hear sound but video stays "green".
I tried MPEG streamclip to convert in any other format but still the screen is green...
Does anybody have an idea how to overcome this issue, whether Apple does have any plans to provide an update etc.? It's kind of funny that H.264 seems to be a more and more adopted standard (one of the reasons I chose the Sanyo camcorder) but a such powerful software like FCE can't handle it.
Quicktime also cant play the video files...
Any help is more than appreciated in order to get a planned Christmas gift (=DVD) done in time...
    Thanks

I am also using a Sanyo Xacti HD 100 camcorder and although I am not sadistic, I really am excited to find finally someone who has also bought this marvellous thing and experiences the same problems as I have.
Reading your topic makes me already a lot wiser noticing that the format of the Xacti is AVC/H.264 ( being different than the AVCHD-format ) probably is the reason why imcompatiblity occurs with Apple. As I can conclude we only can wait till Apple makes an update to solve this problem, and till then use the lower quality.
The software which surely wil do the things we want is Ulead ( Corel - Windows software ) which seems to be bundled with the HD100.
    http://dvformat.digitalmedianet.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=240611
Earlier today I launched folowing topic, now I know the problem probably is the AVC/H.264 - format.
+My experience in using the Apple video software is that there are no problems as long as I don't try the full HD quality.+
+First of all, just simply trying to view the HD files with Quick Time - after having copied them on the harddisk- does'nt work. The only thing I see is a green screen while I do hear the audio part, so I presume QuickTime & Full HD aren't compatible.+
+When I try to import full HD video's using *iMovie 7*, iMovie crashes, so I presume iMovie & Full HD aren't compatible.+
+Then I tried *iMovieHD 6*, while is seemed that this earlier version does handle the full HD - format, the importing succeeded but ... once again trying to view the files doesn't work, as the generated miniatures look like, also the screen only shows a full green screen with sound !!+
    +So I presume iMovieHD 6 & Full HD aren't compatible.+
+The only thing that is left is trying to use *Final Cut Pro*, which I still have to buy.+
+As full HD is represented as the standard for optimal quality, practical use seems upto now to be quite complicated and simply not working although a lot of features claim to do.+
+Do you think Final Cut Pro will handle with FULL HD, or what else can be the reason the incompatibility of Full HD with Apple software.+

  • Timestretch (speed up) mp4 playback to 1.5x or 2x

Is there any way to speed up playback of an mp4 video using the VideoDisplay or netStream? For training videos it would be useful to watch the videos at 1.5x or 2x speed for viewers already familiar with the content. I know that QuickTime and Windows Media Player can change the playback speed but have not found a way to do this in the FlashPlayer.

MPEG Streamclip can play directly at 2x, but not 1.5x. With some practice, it is understandable. Unlike QuickTime Player, it does not keep the pitch the same, so you have to use Audio Hijack Pro
    <http://www.rogueamoeba.com/audiohijackpro/>
with the Apple AUPitch effect set to -1,000 to get the pitch back to normal. (If you aren't recording, you can use it in its free trial mode.)

  • Control MP4 playback using powershell

I have found that i can start a movie using ....
        $player = new-object -com WMPLAYER.OCX
        $player.openplayer("c:\dir1\subdir\movie.mp4")
Things I would like to be able to do are....
    - redirect the playback to a WiDi device ( Play to )
    - Pause
    - Play ( un-pause )
    - Stop
    Thanks
    Tom

    All good ideas.
I've tried the     $player.controls.pause()    no luck
    $movie = $player.openplayer("c:\dir1\subdir\movie.mp4")
    $movie | gm -membertype methods
    came up with nothing.
    The link

    and link
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/jamesone/archive/2008/10/21/powershell-and-windows-media-player-part-2.aspx
was very interesting, and I actually ran all the functions included in these two pages. The Launch-Media at the end of Part 2 ( intended for video ) but the pause-media function did nothing.
For a little background what I am trying to do is to have a little web page, that can peruse a directory, allow the user to select a video file, and play it to a WiDi device ( play to ) using MiraCast on my HD TV. Then of course the web page would need the
ability to pause, resume or stop the video.
    I appreciate  everyone's help !!!

  • Lumia 800 and 23.976 FPS MP4 - Playback Issue

Quite lately, I have been wondering, if I should bring up this issue or not. Thought, what the hell - lets pen it down anyway.
So here's the deal, I have a lot of 720P DTS/DD HD movies which I generally re-encode to H.264 lower bit rates (1500 to 2000 kbps) and  Audio to AAC and finally MUX them in MP4 (sounds terrible right !). The resultant file plays fine on VLC, HOWEVER, its terribly laggy/jerky on Lumia 800.
After a lot of hit and trial, I found a workaround though : Mux the H.264 Video stream @ 25 fps and Speed up the Audio from 23.976 to 25. Now the movie playback on Lumia is tolerable but not that smooth.
My N8 can play 23.976 Movies just fine. Now the Question - Why is Lumia 800 not able to playback the most widely used 23.976 framerate encoded movies and why I have to increase the FPS (to 25) in order to achive a decent playback.
PS: Movies which are @ 30 fps has absolutely brilliant playback on Lumia, though. But unfortunately, we cannot speedup 23.976 to 30, coz speeding up the Audio to 30 framerate makes the audio sound terrible and cartoonish.
EDIT : Let's make it more clear. The culprit is not 720p. I even tried resizing the video to 800x450 (Progressive) and keeping the original framerate to 23.976.The playback is still noticeably jerky. So the culprit is definitely the framerate.
    Cheers !!

@ noenid : Hey buddy... Still stuck with the playback issue.. I realized that long back and am glad that I finally gave up on Nokia. Few weeks back I just bought Sony Xperia Z. Now that's what a "smartphone" should be... Its almost impossible to find something that the "Z DOESN'T DO"...
Maybe Nokia can convince Microsoft to re-design the Windows Phone OS and bring it at part with other OS. I really don't know why Microsoft chose to go the "Apple Way"... They may say "Security" >> to which I say "**bleep**"....
And why do I say **bleep** ?? Depite all the security and locked OS API's, I still don't see any substantial acceptance of Windows Phone OS in Business community... Android on the other hand, was highly criticized for being "vulnerable" >> But look around man... Almost every banking / IT / Financial Sector have their apps on it.. I really don't want Windows Phone OS to roll-over and die...
As they say: You can fool me once, but not twice...

  • 1080/50p to mp4 playback issue

Original camera capture from JVC HM600 1080/50p H.264 converted to Apple Pro Res 422 and imported into FCP7. (iMac OSX 10.7.5) Movie exported as default MOV. MOV then converted to mp4 using Mpeg Streamclip.
Problem is mp4 file not playing back when connected to tv or monitor using usb pen drive. TV plays audio only and monitor says file not supported.
Conversion never been a problem before when using other camera formats such as 1080/50i or 1080/25.

I think this was the issue. I used MPEG Streamclip to compress to mp4 again but at 25fps this time - and now plays back ok.
    Thanks for your help

  • Sanyo VPC-HD1000 Digital Camera & FCP

I am interested in a good camcorder which is disc based to work with FCP. Can anyone tell me if this will work please?
The Sanyo HD1000 records video in Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) and also takes 4-megapixel digital still images. The Sanyo HD1000 utilizes the advanced MPEG-4 AVC/H.246 video format and features a 10x optical HD lens and a large 2.7-inch widescreen display. The new SANYO Xacti HD1000 weighs only 268g and has a total volume of only 272 cubic centimetres. It incorporates advanced MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 video compression, enabling up to approximately 85 minutes of Full HD (1920 x 1080) video recording or over five hours of TV-quality (640 x 480) video recording onto an 8GB SDHC Memory Card (memory card sold separately).

FCP doesn't support the format that the camera shoots don't think. There is a way you could transcode the video most likely, but I'd look in another direction to avoid this because it's time consuming and most likely will hurt the picture quality.
And FWIW, any MPEG recording device isn't the best with render times, conforming times etc.. If you've the budget for a capture card things change a bit... but then, you might have bought a camera whose format is supported instead. One of the things that makes supported disk based recording nice is the fact you don't have to transcode the files... and they import faster than real time. But that camera's video will not work directly with FCP.
How much can you spend? What sort of video work do you do? If you want to do a lot of compositing (effects work), I'd look at an HVX-200, but that camera would cost more than a consumer rig... however it's picture quality will blow away any consumer camera.
If it were me, and on a budget, I'd look at a 3 chip or CMOS chipped HDV camera rather than what you're looking at... with this format, you could work natively with the video, or get an inexpensive card to transcode it to a friendlier post format... like ProRes...

  • .mp4 playback on Apple TV

Just ripped a DVD from MediaFork to a .mp4 file. Will that play in AppleTV or do I have to export in Quicktime Pro to AppleTV? The .mp4 file will play in iTunes.

To answer your specific question if you can play it in iTunes then you can link to Apple TV. You will see a lot of references on this site to the DVD to Apple TV software (MP4Con DVD to Apple TV Video Converter for MAC). I checked the reviews of this program on Versiontracker and people were pretty negative (to say the least). I recommend that people take a good look at VisualHub (http://www.techspansion.com/visualhub/). This a very nice piece of software with a try before you buy. They are really on top of the Apple TV issues and they make it really easy to come up with an Apple TV friendly file.

  • Toshiba 32RL938F: MP4 playback stopps after 2h 6min

    Hi everyone,
first time here and I subscribed to this forum just to report that I have a problem reading my MP4's files with an external hard drive. One video file just stopped after 2 hours and 6 minutes (and it lasted for more than 2 hours and 50 minutes).
I tried to read those files on my computer and there was no problem at all.
    Can you help me ?
    Thanks.
Here is the link to the result of the [MediaInfo Log|http://pastebin.com/NJSx4Msx] of one of my files

Hello, i would like to note that the specific issue about the movies not playing more than 2:05 is not a bug and cannot be fixed by a firmware update. At least for the model 32L4333D i recently bought toshiba responded about a faulty board and the TV needed repair... So you should check for the official support in that case rather to wait for a new firmware that may probably never come.

  • Low headphone audio with Mp4 playback

Trying to watch an Mp4 video and audio is extremely low on headphones. I tried using Quicktime, VLC, Flip player and iTunes and all are outputting almost inaudible levels of audio on my headphones with a characteristic underwater gurgling sound. But when I unplug the headphones, it plays the audio at a normal level over the speakers. All the videos played back with audio at normal levels yesterday on both headphones and speakers.
It doesn't seem to be a problem with the headphones since Youtube and Spotify sound perfectly fine.
Tried to change setups in Midi without any luck.
I have Air Parrot installed as a mirroring software, but it's never caused a problem like this before. I suspect it might have something to do with this, but even when I force quick Air Parrot, the problem remains.
Macbook Air 13", 10.9.4 OSX, can't install new operating system due to possible software incompatibility
    Thanks!

Ok so I just tried a pair of earbuds and it's working fine...
Why would my nice headphones be selective of one program's audio over another...is there something I can do to change the output on my computer?

  • Does sanyo vpc cg10bk work with imovie?

this appears to be a newer model of the sanyos listed on the imovie compatibility page, but I can't tell if it would work. Anyone know about this model?

Yes, it is one of my favoutite 'portable' cameras and it does work perfectly with any version of iMovie.
There is only one downside - you will not be able to use the iMovie stabilisation, well you can apply it but because of Sanyo's CMOS sensor, it does not work well at all.
And the inbuilt Sanyo stabiliser is not good either.
That aside it is a brilliant little HD and still camera as well.
I find that because of it's design and light weight, it is not difficult at all to hold it quite still.
Have a look at any of my 2009 Wailers or Bluesfest videos on YouTube - they are all shot with the CG10, hand held no stabiliser and edited in iMovie 09.
