use the standard (meaning r/3 47x200 sr1) installation guide...ides is (in terms of preparing the system) just another database upload, meaning that you use the same tools but import a different database content (which is by the way a tiny little bit more than the usual content)

SAP BW 3.5 IDES packages, location and installation steps

Hi,
I am looking for SAP BW 3.5 IDES version to install it on Win 2003 Server with Oracle, please advice where I can find it on the market place site and the exact packages needed.
Also please provide the installation steps or link for the IDES version because the installation guides on the market place site do not seem to have these.
And if I have the R/3 4.7 EEC IDES version (SAP R/3 ENTERPRISE 47X200) installed on the my computer:
1) Shall I install BW on the same partition ?
2) Can I use the same Oracle database for BW that I am using for R/3 or I need a different one ?
3) If I need a different one, what are the extra steps needed to avoid any conflict with the R/3 Oracle Database ?

since when is windows xp a supported operating system for sap r/3, bw, netweaver or any of the sap server products?
-> get windows 2000/2003 if you want to install bw!

1) Yes, the installations procedures is almost the same for all SAP versions, however its advisible to use follow the installation guides which comes with the DVD or is also available in SAP marketplace..
2) Object is SAP is almost everything in Sap.
object could be anything like
TABLES
PROGRAMS
VIEW
FUNTTION MODULES
DOMAIN
DATA ELEMENT
STRUCTURE
and so on
3)Composite role is the combination of two or more roles(be it 2 or more single roles or combination of two or more composite roles or permutation of single and composite role).. whereas derived roles can inherit all authorization objects from the parent role and can have its own authorization objects as well..

since when de-installing SAP is urgent?
uninstall SAP: D:\usr\sap\PBW\SYS\exe\uninstsap.exe
uninstall Oarcle: Start -> program -> oracle - SID -> Oracle installation products -> universal installer... choose uninstall.

Please follow the official installation documentation at http://service.sap.com/instguides -> Business Suite Apps -> SAP ERP.
The installation is performed by tool called SAPInst. This can be started from the Installation Master DVD. But ofcourse the Installation Master DVD would be specific to you Operating Syste/Database.
Description of other required installation media (Kernel, Export, RDBMS etc) is mentioned in the installation document.
Suggest you to go through it completely.

1: My laptop has Windows XP Media Centre Edition installed, Is SAP compatible with this OS?

Please check the installation guide at SAP Marketplace. It is the best possible documentation IMHO.
Please visit:
https://websmp102.sap-ag.de/instguides
Then select SAP Components---> SAP R/3 Enterprise.
Select the appropriate node for you and then in the list of installation guides that come up choose the one that is for your Database and OS combination. infact you should always provide this info.
