SAP ABAP or FICO

Hi,
First of all i'm new to this community.
I just completed my graduation(2010 Engg. passout) and got recruited by an organisation.There i got trained in SAP-ABAP and i'm now clear with the concepts although i have never worked in a ABAP development project.But,I did one mock project.
Its 2 months now.I dint get any chance to work in a project.But,yesterday i got a call, and they gave me an oppurtunity to work in a development project.
Meanwhile,they r also giving me an oppurtunity to shift my carrer towards functional side.I have been given an option to learn SAP-FICO in the organisation itself.They said it wud b like a 4 months training with hands-on experience and domain training.And that too i ll b trained along with MBA graduates.They are assuring me with a project a proj as soon as i complete the training.
Which one should i choose?
Get into implementation project as technical consultant or
should i go to attend tat SAP-FICO training and become a functional consultant?
Since i'm new to this SAP world,its quite confusing.
Your valuable feedback will help me to choose a right carrer.

Starting from my first implementation i was a customer facing guy & i was admired by the way a functional consultant plans, designs and oversight of constructing the solution.I got practised myself to propose a solution or work around/gap fits in the product during my ERP implementations,I like speaking with business people which give us a lot of ideas in a broder scope
Of course a technical consultant is a heart of a project without which any project will not sucess.
But Paul can you please advise me is it worth paying a hugh amount to seimens to get trained?

hi Jeetendra,
I definitely see no harm in trying to be a FICO Consultant who knows ABAP (or vice-versa). I've seen some really crazy requirements come from recruiters and this combination was one of them.
Just to give you an idea, I've recruiters asking for ABAP with BASIS, ABAP with SOA experience, ABAP with SCM, ABAP with PP-DS, ABAP with SLT etc apart from clubbing ABAP with any of the core Functional Modules.
So yeah, if FICO is your "thing" and you think it will be a cake-walk then go for it.

Transitioning From ABAP To FICO

Dear Gurus,
As Stated on this topic discussion, i would be very much appreciated to receive any advice and notable documents / compilation on how to start to be a SAP - FICO consultant.
I've done throughly serch in the net about topic on how to be an effective SAP FICO counsultant and it helps me alot to know the basics, however i assumed that SAP is always inevitable for change specially in FICO, this is because the blogs and post i've read is already in the past and i just wanna know what are the most important things to start in FICO these days.

Hi Marky,
Krishna pointed out correctly to you. If you have background of Accounting then it would be ideal choice. However, I can see the subject from ABAP to FICO. You have to see which one you are very comfortable on the process side when you were worked with SAP Functional consultants SD, MM, PP, FI etc. Also, check what is your study and domain background because it gives you a ladder to move fast in terms of understanding on functional side.
If you have already worked on SAP FICO ABAP then it would be an ideal choice, but check above points before moving into correct SAP modules.

EPI use of hierarchies in SAP R/3 FICO

Hi
This is related to a BW report which gets its data from SAP R/3 FICO.
We are facing a problem wherein development R/3 and quality R/3 are not in sync. Since they are not in sync with respect to Customer Group Hierarchy (PH6) our BW report does not work.
This hierarchy is created in SAP and then BW picks up any amendments when a material master update routine is run.
The problem is that we have a correct version of this hierarchy in P01(live system) which ideally we would like to be able to copy back into R01(quality) and D01(development) so these can then be updated in BD1(BW development) and BQ1(BW quality). We would probably need to copy back a Customer Group Table (T151) as well.
I believe there is a SAP functionality called EPI-Use that may allow us to do this and was wondering if any of your guys have used this process and could advise whether this is possible or not.
It would save a significant amount of work if we were able to use this facility.
Any help would be welcome.

From my point of view basic post installation steps are:
- Installing SAP License (from http://service.sap.com/licensekeys)
- Setup TMS (STMS)
- Import profiles (RZ10)
- Client Copy (SCC*)
- Create users (SU01)
However further many steps are required as per your requirements. Cehck the link for more detailed steps.

Scenario: Manually Purchase Order is created, automatically Sales Order should be created in the Target System through PI,
                   I have used Message Mapping which is working fine for single Customer and Vendor,
                   For Multiple Customers and Vendors i am using one ZTABLE, Only Message Mapping is not sufficient to my requirement.
                  Now i am using both Message Mapping and   ABAP Mapping at a time in Interface Mapping. I created the class and                done the   development., whene i run the scenario i am getting the error as below,

Problem while fetching more records in SAP ABAP report program

Hello Frinds,
I have SAP ABAP report program which fetches data from usr02 table
Now, program is working fine with less number of records, bot in production there are more than 200000 records and either report gets timed out or there is run time error like buffer area not available.
Below is the fetch statement
SELECT bname FROM usr02 INTO TABLE lt_user
So, do I need to take records in small chunks, I do not think it is needed as I have worked on number of othere databases where there are number of records in single fetch statement and database itself take care of this.
Please provide me some approach to resolve this problem.

This will be very difficult for you.....
Since you are getting a time out error....it looks like, you are runnning this report in foreground....................
Try running it in background it will work...
ELSE....you have to fetch in small chunks....but the question is how will you do it. Since the USR02 only has BNAME as primary key...
Either put the BNAME as part of selection screen and fetch the data.....it will solve your problem....
Only fetch for those BNAME which is entered in the selection screen...

How to get proper breakthrough in SAP ABAP

hi experts ,
i was going through different threads that getting job as SAP ABAP fresher is very tough .If i consider my profile i have only 3.5 years of software development experience .If i do ABAP then i will be fresher in SAP .
1)so how should i proceed to get a proper break through in this domain.
2)When is the Peak time for doing this course.
3)Is Master Degree Essential to get a break through in SAP ABAP.I have B.Sc IT
4)is Genovate /Bangalore / Mumbai is a proper place to get a breakthrough in SAP ABAP

Welcome to the world of SAP ABAP! There is plenty of work at the moment, so you've chosen a good time to start.
I've been doing it for over 10 years, and I would recommend it to anybody.
As for your questions:
1) The best way to break into ABAP is do the courses BC400 and BC401. Then try to find a job where you can gain experience
2) These courses are held all the time
3) No special degree is required, you just need to know how to program BEFORE you try to learn ABAP
4) SAP is used all over the world, so don't worry about specific locations
Once you have done the training and have some on-the-job experience, then you should try to achieve certification.
