SAP B1 as career option_Need expert suggestions

Hello there,
I am a B.E electronics guy graduated in 2009. I wish to pursue SAP B1 training.
Could you please tell me
(1) Chances of getting a job in this SAP stream?
(2) Any good institute in Bangalore for SAP B1 training?
(3) Is getting into ERP better than doing technical module like ABAP etc

Hi Prasanna,
I can relate my personal experience with SAP B1. I used it as a stepping stone to get into SAP Netweaver. It's hard to say whether it added much value to where I'm at today but it does carry some weight.
In terms of how it maps...With SAP B1 you're covering a lot of the modules in SAP R/3 (because it needs to help a small business manage many aspects of running a bsuiness) so you get a more well rounded experience (functional & technical) but that's where it stops. When I last saw SAP B1, Abap wasn't being used as the development language because SAP B1 was bought by SAP from some Israeli company, I'm not sure if that's changed.
The de-facto database being used for SAP B1 is MS SQL, you'll read that there's support for other databases but I haven't come across any others being used with B1. So you'll get good MS SQL database administration skills & you could use that in an SAP Basis track with MS SQL but there again, an R/3 implementation with a MS SQL DB is a rare occurrence.
The future demand for B1? I think it's huge! SAP has a major goal of reaching 1 billion users on SAP by 2015 & I think SAP B1 forms a major part of that goal (along with mobile & SaaS too). The SME market segment is also the fastest growing area within SAP.
I started my SAP career doing SAP B1 consulting work and I now work for SAP. Whether SAP B1 contributed to that can be argued but I have no regrets.

Hi all
The current requirement we have is to Load data from Excel File to oracle Databases.
The Excel file has around 30 Sheets , each corresponds to a table, ( means 30 tables in the database) .
Currently we are using sqlldr commands to load data from CSV files to the Oracle Database. The only problem is that sometime the DBA has to go out or is busy workign on somthing else, so May i kindy get some expert suggestions on how to automate this DataLoading Task.
Somebody has suggested to My Manager ( who is not aware of oracle and IT at all) that data can be loaded via ODBC. It is suggested to him that all we need to do is to place the CSV files on the Server at a particular folder and Oracle will do the rest.
I am not that proficient in Data loading methods.. so may i know any technique which will simplify/automate the Task.
I mean how can we automate so that every time , the the sql loader scripts run at command promt. I think data base ( Oracle ) as nothing to do with command promt i feel. isnt it ..
Kindly have ur expert./experienced suggestions.

To automate sqlldr scripts, you would usually write a OS script file that will periodically looks for files in a given directory and run the sqlldr commands:
- on Windows: .bat or .wsh files to be scheduled with "at" command or windows scheduled tasks tool
- on Unix: a script shell in the crontab.
Much more complicate but without any OS script:
- write a PL/SQL code to read, parse the file to be loaded using UTL_FILE
package
- this PL/SQL code must also generate INSERT statements and process errors ...
- this PL/SQL code can be scheduled with DBMS_JOB package to run a periodic intervals.

Minor Thesis in SAP XI....Topic Suggestion??

Hi all,
I will be doing a minor thesis in SAP XI as a part of my Masters Program.
I have also spoken to guide about the topic. He said that I can consider any topic as SAP XI is relatively new. I don't have much hands on SAP XI so far.Just as what generally happens at academic level. I am pursuing my Masters in IS and ERP. This minor thesis will be equivalent to 3 subjects.
As far as my supervisor is concerned about the topic he wants some kind of demonstration solution for whatever topic I choose to do research in. At the end of the day it has to be some hands on practice research which I should be able to demonstrate. I tried to find on internet if any research of this kind has been done on SAP XI. I couldnt find a single paper.Also the time duration is around 4-5 months maximum considering extensions periods as well.
So what I want from you all experts there sitting and reading this is to suggest me a topic where minor thesis can be conducted or research can be done. I especially urge all those people who are experts in this area and have done minor thesis before. Please do let me know about the topic and I will get back to you if I have any doubts. I thought as there has not been enough research been done talking straight to SDN forum will be beneficial.
So please suggest me some topics and just give some background information 1st and then where the research has to be done.

Thats good mite, keep going.
keeping the target in mind you have to concentrate on the scenarios, that is scenarios that leads to BPM and Proxies.
for example: I hope you created Message Interfaces for Filt-to-File sceanrio right. concentrate on parameters what you give and try to figure out which parameter is related to BPM in case of message Interface.
see the Idea is to work on BPM not keep doing all R&D on XI server Right.
so practise scenarios which drive to BPM or Proxies.ok
for do some other simple scenarios first like IDOC-File or FIle-IDOC and take FTP as source in File adapter. ok
Next study BPM and Proxies theory.
and Try to relate where exactly you need to concentrate in existing sceanrios, to get working scenarios of BPM and Proxies.

WM to be streamlined - Need Expert Suggestions

Hi experts,
I need your suggestions on the below scenario.
I have been handovered with responsiblity to streamline the WMS system by resloving issue and fixing the gaps.
Problem is Client was not using WMS sytem from last 9 months and it is still connected to MM.
Hence everyday corresponding WM docuements are generated relevant to MM and other process which is still in open status.
Now i am in dilemma how to tackle this situation !
I have the below plan :
1.Resolving and closing all existing issues in production server.
2.Stock correction in IM and WM
3.Identifying and fixing the gaps
But what if i found that the existing process conifured in SAP doesn't need the business requirement ? And need to implement again ?
Believe me that any help on this will be highly appreciated.

Thanks a lot for sharing your views on this plan.
I found some congigurations changes to be done.
So my plan is to first resolve the productions issues and then disconnect WM from IM.
2) They were not using WM but WM was still active as per SAP WM, for any movement system create TO without TO confirmation you can not post a delivery. How are they managing today if there is some alternate way they can move back to the same. Try to understand that ?
Ans)They were able to issue the stock by using allow negative stock functionality
But now the major challenge is to clear the negative stock from interim storage types(911,914,921,922)
So is there any short cut method to clear this negative stocks lying in interim storage types as now i am doing it manually but there are thousands of -ve stock entries.
It is getting horrible to clear those bulk -ve entries !

I have 7 years of experience in SAP Technical mainly in ABAP, Interface technology with ALE/EDI/IDocs, Workflows.
How best career shift in MDM considering i have not worked in SAP XI or BI and have a very little knowledge of XI.
Is SAP MDM Certification a good option to start with?

As rightly mentioned by Deepankar, in additon I would like to mention that MDM certification will be right boost for you to start your career in MDM.
MDM is a tool which involves a lot of integration. There have been many ABAPers shifting to this field as MDM is a hot cake right now. Myself being one of them.
You can always use ABAP Knowledge in MDM in the form of ABAP APi's.
XI skills is also an added advantage if you know it. However, you will genarally always have XI consultant supporting you in a project.

I posted this earlier but it is still applicable.
In terms of topics, one of the biggest issues facing companies is the transition to the new BOBJ reporting tools. Companies are unsure of their reporting roadmap as Bex is being phased out. So research related to how companies are approaching the transition would be very relevant. Also related to this is the decision processes related to reporting tool selection. SAP customers are being presented with a plethora of reporting tools. What are the factors used to decide which tools should be implemented?
Another trend which is emerging is the establishment of BI Centres of Excellence or BI Competency Centres. Drivers, barriers, purpose etc would be relevant research. Related to this is BI Maturity models.

SAP PA - Licence problem? Expert Analysis Buttons grayed out

Installed SAP Predictive Analytics 2.1
Automated analytics options are enabled for me but for some reason Expert analytics option is greyed out
Refer attached for details...

P.S. I had SAP Lumira on the same system which we had uninstalled before starting installation for SAP PA 2.1
Please advice how to resolve...

Hi Antoine,
Yesterday I tried uninstall followed by fresh install. Expert analytics launch link is still not enabled for me.
But also came across that the link was enabled when we used application from admin superuser login. Tried various changed with my user access without any luck. Strange that other links are working but just not the expert analytics.
Anyway i like the option of directly invoking exe as that seems to be working. That should help me get started.

To give brief introduction, I am a sales professional over the last 15 years post my MBA (Marketing) and Science graduation (B.Sc.).
I am not new to computing learning, as way back I have learnt C & C++, but didn't attain any IT profession and been into Sales profession since my Post graduation.
I wish to join the IT-force by learning SAP.
With given my back-ground in sales professions (15 years experience) I wish to learn SAP and would wish to attain the "BUSINESS ANALYST" position in any Organisation.
Requesting the community to suggest me which course in SAP helps me to attain the said position and what are basics and subsequent courses I need to complete before attaining the 'Business Analyst' position.

As per my understanding the course you going to pursue will fit you. SAP MM is all about managing the materials.
Once you get into the SAP field then you can explore otyher opportunities as well as SCM etc...
As the job market is concerned, if have good knowledge the getting a job is not very tough. Job opportunities can be in consulting company, IT services company or in production company if they have SAP.

Well about me , I have 3 years of basis experience. Worked on ECC inlementation , upgrade and a security implemetation as well. About other products I have product knowledge of EP , Trex , Content Server and BI as Basis Consultant. I dont have expertise in each of above but I am confident enough that I understand the underlying technology and explain it convinceingly.
Is this much Technical Expreince sufficient to get started?
And in SAP learning a continuous part irrespective of which field you are. SAP technology keeps changing over night so I believe marketing guys needs to keep themselves abreast with it. Thats the best part I enjoy learning about the latest technological treads and exploring it various possibilities .
To tackle the sale jargon I am planing to get a MBA degree. Hope that will help me as well . Also looking forward to SAP CRM as well after my MBA (If at all marketing thing dose not work out).

in case of installation this prob occurs if the there is a problem with the software. If possible dump all the files from the origial cd/dvds and try again.
The reason is as follows :
Normally the IDES comes in DVD/cd . The vendor from whome u got the software has copied it into cds so naturally one dvd is copied to more than one cds. When u dumped it to the HD most probbaly some files are not dumped in the proper location where it is expected.Hence some pointer is unable to find the link. Ask the person from whome u got the software regarding the locations as to where to dump the contents of the cds . Once the cds are dumped to the hd in the right locations there wont be any prob in installation.

Automated (scripted) migrations are carried out using the nQUDMLGen.exe and nQUDMLExec.exeutlitiies, which can export and import repository elements from one repository to another.
Automated migration in this manner is usually preferred in real, production situations as it removes the chance of operator error when migrating from one environment to another.(dev to prod)
what is the use of Event Polling Tables?
Event Polling tables are implemented to purge cache automatically.

In Service Management for sales order production to the indicator (Calculate WIP for orders in sales order production) set in the accrual version for
Production orders
Internal orders with no revenues
Orders with no revenues
In Service Management for engineer-to-order production to the indicator (Calculate WIP for orders in engineer-to-order production ) set in the accrual version for

Status of order
Did you do WIP calculation in Oct?
If so you need to settle the order in Nov...you cannot settle it in Oct as you already told the system and a finacial entry is passed in WIP calculation.
We will do WIP calculation for all the orders for which the status is REL and PCNF and Not for DLV and CNF orders.
As I see your communication you have doen variance cal / WIP calculation already in Oct,,, now you want to settle?
You cannot settle it in Oct, enter the posting period as 11 and settle if it is permitted or wait till nov and settle
