  • SAP Implementation Process !!!

    Hi Folks,
I need brief information about the SAP implementation process. As per the ASAP Methodology we have different phases involved in the entire implementation process from Project preparation,Blue print analysis,Realization,Final Preparation and Go Live Support.
I did not involve myself into implementation. Being a Basis consultant I would like to know what is the involvement of basis consultant in each phase in detail and what are the activities being carry out by a basis team, what would be the avg team size and what would be the duration of the project approximately. I know it depends on the project and modules being used, architecture and all. i just wanted to know the rough details for information.
I would really appreciate for any useful information.
    Regards,
    Vinod

    Hi Viond,
Please find below an elaborated details for SAP Implementaion.
The ASAP (Accelerated SAP) Roadmap provides the methodology for implementing and continuously optimizing your SAP System. It divides the implementation process into five major phases and offers detailed Project Plans to assist you (Microsoft Project format). The documentation stored at each level of the Roadmap tree structure contains recommendations on implementing your SAP System and links to helpful tools and accelerators. We use SAP Solution Manager for the same and define the steps and this information can be transformed into MPP.
The implementation of your SAP System covers the following major phases:
    Project Preparation
In this phase you plan your project and lay the foundations for successful implementation. It is at this stage that you make the strategic decisions crucial to your project:
Define your project goals and objectives
Clarify the scope of your implementation
Define your project schedule, budget plan, and implementation sequence
Establish the project organization and relevant committees and assign resources
Sizing for the SAP Servers (SAPS) Important for Basis.
    Business Blueprint
In this phase you create a blueprint using the Question & Answer database (Q&Adb) older versions and now it has been replaced by new value adds from SAP in Solution Manager, which documents your enterpriseu2019s requirements and establishes how your business processes and organizational structure are to be represented in the SAP System. You also refine the original project goals and objectives and revise the overall project schedule in this phase.  In short its As is >> To be its from from functional consultant (mapping of business process) Basis will be involved how and when backup will be taken what 3rd party/vendor will be used, how users will be handled (CUA or normal procedure).
    Realization
In this phase, you configure the requirements contained in the Business Blueprint. Baseline configuration (major scope) is followed by final configuration (remaining scope), which can consist of up to four cycles. Other key focal areas of this phase are conducting integration tests and drawing up end user documentation. Major part will be creation of transport requests and transportation to QAS system. Configuration of SAProuter, Solution manager and its various configuration
    Final Preparation
In this phase you complete your preparations, including testing, end user training, system management, and cutover activities. You also need to resolve all open issues in this phase. At this stage you need to ensure that all the prerequisites for your system to go live have been fulfilled...Final Check.
    Go Live & Support
In this phase you move from a pre-production environment to the live system. The most important elements include setting up production support, monitoring system transactions, and optimizing overall system performance.
You can also download an HTML version of the ASAP Core Roadmap 7.1 on [SAP Services Marketplace - ASAP Roadmaps and Run SAP Roadmaps|http://service.sap.com/asap] (SMP login required).
    All the best !

    Hi,
We want to include file system backup process as part of our backup strategy. To test the waters, we are planning to take a backup of the at filesystems level. Following are the filesystems in our production systems. We have a test server (hostname is different), without any filesystems created beforehand. I want to know: 1. 2. Is it possible to directly backup the filesystems (like /dev/oracleGSPlv)? This requirement is because, when I backup (using tar) /oracle, all the folders in /oracle, like /oracle/GSP, /oracle/GSP/sapdata1 etc, are also backed up. I do not want it. I would like to backup the filesystems directly.
    3. Which unix backup tools are used to backup the individual filesystems?
    4. How do we restore the filesystems to the test server? Thanks for your advise. Abdul Edited by: Abdul Rahim Shaik on Feb 8, 2010 12:10 PM

    Hi,
I am not sure about your OS as you have not mentioned it...
If it is HP-UX then you can use "fbackup" backup for filesystem...
and IGNITE to backup volume groups..
fbackup will backup the filesystem only... but IGNITE backup creates bootable media for recovery...
With IGNITE (make_tape_recovery) backup you can backup individual volume group.
you can see the man pages for the details...
    #man fbackup
    #man make_tape_recovery
It will be more easy to guide you if you provide your OS and Filesystem layout and what you need to backup...
If you still want to use "tar" command for backup, use "--no-recursion" option to backup single directory

  • How to stop running Backup process by BRTOOLS ?

    Dear All,
We r using HP-UX -- OS for SAP system. We run backup process by DB13 TC.
once the backup started, we can not log in  till backup process ends.
If we want to stop this process in between then how to stop BACKUP process safely ? We have to use BRTOOLS ?
    Pl' give right method ..............

    Hi,
Just confirm whether you are doing a disk to disk backup or disk to tape backup.
Disk to Disk - It copies the files from oraarch filesystem to logbackup, and sapdata1,2,3... to sapbackup filesystems respectively. This is scheduled through brtools (DB13). This affects the performance tremdrously.
Disk to Tape - This takes all the files from sapbackup and logbackup filesystems to tape. this doesnot affect the performance.
We can kill the backup scheduled by brtools, because there is always a background job is triggered for the backup, the jobs always start with DBA*. Then kill that job, with help of pid from SAP level or OS level. but I doubt that the stopped backup can be used for recovery for future use.
    With regards

  • TIme Machine  backup grows too large during backup process

I have been using Time Machine without a problem for several months, backing up my imac - 500GB drive with 350g used. Recently TM failed because the backups had finally filled the external drive - 500GB USB. Since I did not need the older backups, I reformatted the external drive to start from scratch. Now TM tries to do an initial full backup but the size keeps growing as it is backing up, eventually becoming too large for the external drive and TM fails. It will report, say, 200G to back up, then it reaches that point and the "Backing up XXXGB of XXXGB" just keeps getting larger. I have tried excluding more than 100GB of files to get the backup set very small, but it still grows during the backup process. I have deleted plist and cache files as some discussions have suggested, but the same issue occurs each time. What is going on???

    Michael Birtel wrote:
Here is the log for the last failure. As you see it indicates there is enough room 345g needed, 464G available, but then it fails. I can watch the backup progress, it reaches 345G and then keeps growing till it give out of disk space error. I don't know what "Event store UUIDs don't match for volume: Macintosh HD" implies, maybe this is a clue?
No. It's sort of a warning, indicating that TM isn't sure what's changed on your internal HD since the previous backup, usually as a result of an abnormal shutdown. But since you just erased your TM disk, it's perfectly normal.
    Starting standard backup
Backing up to: /Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Backups.backupdb
Ownership is disabled on the backup destination volume. Enabling.
2009-07-08 19:37:53.659 FindSystemFiles[254:713] Querying receipt database for system packages
    2009-07-08 19:37:55.582 FindSystemFiles[254:713] Using system path cache.
Event store UUIDs don't match for volume: Macintosh HD
Backup content size: 309.5 GB excluded items size: 22.3 GB for volume Macintosh HD
No pre-backup thinning needed: 345.01 GB requested (including padding), 464.53 GB available
This is a completely normal start to a backup. Just after that last message is when the actual copying begins. Apparently whatever's happening, no messages are being sent to the log, so this may not be an easy one to figure out.
First, let's use Disk Utility to confirm that the disk really is set up properly.
First, select the second line for your internal HD (usually named "Macintosh HD"). Towards the bottom, the Format should be +Mac OS Extended (Journaled),+ although it might be +Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled).+
Next, select the line for your TM partition (indented, with the name). Towards the bottom, the Format must be the same as your internal HD (above). If it isn't, you must erase the partition (not necessarily the whole drive) and reformat it with Disk Utility.
Sometimes when TM formats a drive for you automatically, it sets it to +Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled).+ Do not use this unless your internal HD is also case-sensitive. All drives being backed-up, and your TM volume, should be the same. TM may do backups this way, but you could be in for major problems trying to restore to a mis-matched drive.
Last, select the top line of the TM drive (with the make and size). Towards the bottom, the *Partition Map Scheme* should be GUID (preferred) or +Apple Partition Map+ for an Intel Mac. It must be +Apple Partition Map+ for a PPC Mac.
If any of this is incorrect, that's likely the source of the problem. See item #5 of the Frequently Asked Questions post at the top of this forum for instructions, then try again.
If it's all correct, perhaps there's something else in your logs.
Use the Console app (in your Applications/Utilities folder).
When it starts, click +Show Log List+ in the toolbar, then navigate in the sidebar that opens up to your system.log and select it. Navigate to the +Starting standard backup+ message that you noted above, then see what follows that might indicate some sort of error, failure, termination, exit, etc. (many of the messages there are info for developers, etc.). If in doubt post (a reasonable amount of) the log here.

  • How to stop the backup process....

How to stop the backup process....
Okay, so it happens nearly everytime you synch your iPhone with your iTunes? Easy. As soon as it starts, hit the "X" in the bar where the backup process is being shown, this does NOT STOP the synching process, ONLY the backup process.
HOWEVER, keep in mind that a few times during the week (depends how often you synch ur iPhone) it will be good to let the backup process let run fully.
    There we go. Problem solved...

i agree its what i do i backup whenever i add a new app, or take more pics etc its exactly what i do its what ive been saying on all these threads talking about backups etc, im hoping in 2.0.1 will be bug fixes about this sort of thing...

    Hi,
This was one of the good session...
    Especially the features such as;
-- TCP/IP connection control with JMS adapters
    -- Empty file Handling
-- Set the various Attributes for Mail attachments via dynamic configuration (intially only subject line was possible)
    -- Message Prioritization
-- single IDOC Ack for IDOC Packaging
    -- IDOC packaging
    -- and many more........................
Even the future indicatioon of IDOC J2EE based adapter will provide new direction to the existion IDOC related scenarios..
One thing that was changed in IDOC packaging is to control it via Sender Communication channel...intially we were doing it either via ECC system or with t-code "idxpw"
Its almost in same way...but from J2EE based adapter perceptive IDOC packaging will be available with Java stack...and will no need to depend only ABAp stack for this feature.
    Thanks

  • SAP Dialog Process Number

    Dears:
I just finish installation of my ECC 6.0 server. Now i want to change the number of the SAP dialog process. And do you know if there is any calculate formula to use so that i can know how many dialog process i should set for the server?

    Hello,
That depends on the no of users that are going to logon.
For windows based operating system, it depends on the no of processors you have in the server.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/02/962817538111d1891b0000e8322f96/frameset.htm
While increasing the no of work process, you need to note that per work process, you have to assign 50 MB to 60 MB of memory, depending on the SAP release and operating system.

Is the drive name your internal?
UPDATE: When I stopped the restore function I checked the error log again and it said "could not un-mount disk for erasure" Not sure what that means. Anyone know how to fix that?
I'm pretty sure something is wrong with the hard drive installed on the iMac at this point. I tried to do a clean install of 10.5.0 from the Leopard retail DVD and that stalled early in the process as well.
Yes, it sure sounds like it. It now sounds like both the TM restore and Erase and Install are unable to erase your internal HD. It's not even getting to your TM backups, or installing OSX.
Let's double-check and try again. Boot from the Install disc again, and completely reformat the internal HD. Be sure to use the GUID Partition Map scheme if it's an Intel Mac, or the +Apple Partition Map+ scheme if it's a PPC. And use the +Mac OS Extended (Journaled)+ format.
It might be worth taking the time to then do a +Zero Out.+ Select Erase, then +Security Options,+ then +Zero Out Disk+ (the one-pass option is sufficient). That will, obviously, write zeros to the entire disk. If this fails, the disk is dying and likely the cause of the whole mess. If it passes, it isn't necessarily ok, but it's a pretty good sign, and you may be able to proceed with the restore.

  • SAP business processes - HR

    Hi gurus,
Can you please tell me where I can find standard SAP business processes (not any client specific) ?
For example, 1. Benefits - from enrollement, changes, termination.
    2. Payroll - Hire employee, maintain pay roll area, payroll status, then maintain IT 07, 08 ,,, then run Payroll Run program(what is the program name), then how to transfer the results to FI.
    3. Time - what are the infotypes maintained (why), then what/which is the time evaluation program, how the time results used in calculation of Payroll...
Please let reply if you have any general idea where to search for this (any module is ok)?
    Can some one please help?
    thanks,
    Rupali.

    Hi Rupali,
There is not really any such thing as "standard business processes". There are best practices, but generally these are not really documented. Business processes vary from business to business. SAP has functionality and the ability to adapt the system to meet many business process scenarios.

    Hello,
Our Company is a subsidiary co. of a German based MNC Co. who have a global presence in Europe, America & Asia.
Our compnay is the first subsidiary Co. for roll out of SAP templet process and later on the same templet process has been rolled out in America & Asia. Our MNC co. has trageted to rolled out the same templet process for all the subsidiary Co. globally.
Under the global template process, presently, we are using the SAP standard roles and user specific roles for the transactions authorisation.
We being a subsidiary co., developing the Role based transaction authorisation matrix and would like to define the same in Global SAP Template.
    Questions:
    1. Being a SAP global templet process, whether this new role based trasaction authorisation roles can be define for our subsidiary Company in the templet?
    2. If , the answer is no what is the alternative remedy.
We would be glade to know the answer.
    Thanx & Regards

    Hi Prasad,
Yes it is possible. You will have to use handling units only as shipping units in the outbound delivery packing function. The handling unit can be defined during the transfer order confirmation (you have this in LT12 as packing) or in the delivery after the TO confirmation. You can only perform packing before goods issue.
I hope i'll helps you lot
