  • On demand database maintenance order

Dear Experts,We have a prod database (databaseA)at 45GB and it contains tables for attachments(documents, images etc) from 7 companies/affiliates. The compressed full backup size is at 35.5 GB. We also maintain diff and trn backups that run on sched. We have fewer restore points due to storage constraint.A new database (databaseB) has been created in another server to house the other 6 companies' data, hence we can now delete other companies' data/records from this databaseA which leave it with only one company data. I think it is an occasion in which running DBCC shrinkdatabase would be legal so that the OS could reclaim the space.Sorry for that long overview, but my question is about the proper order of database maintenance. Is the following correct? Or will it create performance issues? Are each step necessary? Kindly enlighten me....
This topic first appeared in the Spiceworks Community

You can create a service order through sales order creation using action item of quality notification.
Define the function module into action box's item in configuration
SPRO > Quality Management > Quality Notifications > Notification Processing > Additional Notification Functions > Define Action Box > Define Functions for the Action Box
SAP sample function module is 'QM06_FM_TASK_RMA_ORDER_CREATE' for creation of repair order.
When you select the action item at quality notification, the pop-up screen to create a sales order will be shown.
Also you can assign a service item(=service material) to create a service order at the same time.
If you want to create a maintenance order(not service order), you have to use the maintenance notification.
Because only maintenance notification can have the technical object like equipment, functional location.

  • Sizing for SAP BCM (Business Communication Management)

    Hi All
We have to provide a server sizing to be used for SAP BCM (Business Communication Management) module which will be intergrated with SAP CRM and is to be used for call support. As far as we have reached, we require a Windows server and will host MS SQL database with an approx consumer data of 63 lacs consumers.
Please specify the sizing for this server
    Thanks in advance
    Lokesh

Sorry, forgot to ask how much physical memory you have on each host.
Let's split it to 2 topics.
    1. For ECC, since OracleDB and non-unicode page which are the 2 major factors won't be changed, so I would think here we could just do a math, as long as host A has enough memory which is allocated for Oracle and ECC (extended memory) on host B to be added up.
    2. For EP, memory tuning size is basically the same for HP JDK and SUN JDK, that each server node is allocated approximately 2.5GB RAM. Besides, 0.8-1GB RAM needs to be left for OS kernel. But in your case, host B is currently holding 200 users which is a big jump for host A(note: only active user quantity matters here).
That's fine if main physical memory is a little short for host A, utilizing multiple less powerful servers as 2nd tier application server to do the load balancing is also a solution with lower TCO.

  • SAP BCM - IVR Implementation

    Hello,
I am setting up an IVR on SAP BCM, which will perform some queries in external database and verbalization of these values. From what I saw in the "SAP BCM - IVR Administration Guide" I need to use the EXTERNALDATA state and SOAP state for these queries. But the documentation is unclear and does not exemplify these settings with practical models. Do you have examples of these configurations?
    Grateful,

    Hello, Rahat.
It's quiet offtopic of this thread. But I'll try to answer your questions.
Very clear step-by-step example installataion is described in an installation guide at http://service.sap.com/instguides under SAP Solution Extensions -> SAP Business Communication Management (BCM) -> BCM 6.0. There is "6.0 SP9 Example Installation.pdf" file. It'll give you first steps and ideas how to deal with SAP BCM.
About VoIP expertise... Actually, SAP BCM works perfectly without any external VoIP stuff (e.g. gateways, SIP-phones etc). You can make internal calls from softphone to softphone. But there is no real benefits without at least one E1/T1/J1 external connection. So you need at least VoIP gateway. Which needs to be configured by someone. There are lots of vendors and models of these gateways. And SAP official documentation doesn't cover them. So this someone-man needs to know what is going on there. Also you should remember about troubleshooting.
So I'd say that for setting up SAP BCM from Basis point of view you do not need any VoIP expertise at all.
But to make it works in the right way you must have at least basic knowledge of VoIP technology. It's already project implementation scope, not installatione one.
    Hope this will help you.

  • SAP BCM 6.0 IVR Reporting

    Hi everyone,
One of our customer who still using SAP BCM 6.0 wants to report the IVR menu selections due to Governmental Regulations. Is it possible to report how many callers selected which IVR option within a specific period of time?
    Kind Regards

    Hello Huseyin,
Yes, you can record in BCM database (ver. 6.0) some extra data collected in IVR using DATAWRITE state in your IVR application.
For instance, you should add a DATAWRITE state after each option selected by your customer to insert this information to database. In DATAWRITE state configuration select "COMMON" as Category, "Insert call log detail" as Write Type and the value disiered.
Remember that you can also use a CUSTOM state to record your extra data to some customer table if you want.

  • SAP BCM Telephony functionality

    Hi All,
I am new to SAP BCM and wanted to get more practical knowhow . I have gone through various documents and have few questions .
    1. When we say BCM is VOIP enabled what exactly does this mean and what type of communication devices can be used by the customers in BCM scenario and how those are handled ?
    2. What is the flow of process in case of outbound telephone call scenario ?
    3. When we integrate SAP BCM with SAP CRM Webclient , then which toolbar appears ? Do we see tololbar created in CRM as well as softphone from SAPBCM ?
could someone please share real time document prepared during the implementation that will be really helpful or if there are already lins available which give the detailed knowledge woul dbe really very helpfull.
    Thanks
    Sonia

    Hi Sonia,
Some answers for your questions below:
    1. VoIP-enabled means that BCM is a complete solution for contact center and besides CTI features, SAP BCM also handles all voice traffic in the contact center (telecom product category is IPCC, IP Contact Center). To implement SAP BCM you need some 3rd party devices known as VoIP Gateways (to connect with PSTN) and VoIP Terminals if you don't want to use the SAP BCM softphone called CDT (Communication Desktop). The softphone CDT is the better feature and cost option.
    2. You have some options for outbound scenarios, e.g.. use the CRM Call List functionality or use the built-in BCM preview dialer.
    3. Both BCM and CRM should be running in the workstation, and you can control telephony functions from CRM or BCM.
For a VoIP technology overview you can check my SDN Article:

For installation procedure check the BCM documentation available in service.sap.com:

  • What is the biggest SAP Business One database you have ever seen?

    Hi All
I'm trying to determine what capabilities of how big a SAP Business One database can become without it becomming to slow to work with... The reason for this question is that have a customer with a database of 27GB ... The customer have only been in production for one year, but because they roughly place 1500 sales orders each day the growth rate is big...
So the question is simple how many GB is your largest customer and how does the system manage?

    Hi Rasmus,
I'd agree with the above, the overall size isn't as important as the hardware that they are using. I've seen a 75GB database system which was suffering badly because they hadn't specc'd the disk I/O correctly although memory and CPU were fine (we didn't spec this, it was a site we were called in to help on when they started having issues). Of course, a larger database is going to have other issues (eg backup and restore times, patch upgrade times etc) and you'd probably want to be more proactive on database maintenance than on a smaller database (eg you don't want to have autogrow kicking in during the day so you'd need to make sure that there is sufficient space in the database at all times).
If you are concerned about database size then one option is to clear the history tables. This can reduce the database up to 50% but, of course, you'll lose the change history.
Database archiving is still rumoured to be coming out in the next version.
    Kind Regards,
    Owen

  • Re: what is difference between sap locking and database locking

    hi,
what is difference between sap locking and database locking. Iam locked the table mara by using lock objects.
But iam unable to unlock the mara table. I give u the coding. Please check it.
    REPORT zlock .
    CALL FUNCTION 'ENQUEUE_EZTEST3'
    EXPORTING
       MODE_MARA            = 'S'
       MANDT                = SY-MANDT
       MATNR                = 'SOU-1'.
    call transaction 'MM02'.
    CALL FUNCTION 'DEQUEUE_EZTEST3'
         EXPORTING
              mode_mara = 'E'
              mandt     = sy-mandt
              matnr     = 'SOU-1'.
    IF sy-subrc = 0.
      WRITE: 'IT IS unlocked'.
    ENDIF.

    Hi Paluri
Here is the difference between SAP locks and Database locks, i will try to find the solution to your code.
    Regards
    Ashish
Database Locks: The database system automatically sets database locks when it receives change statements (INSERT, UPDATE, MODIFY, DELETE) from a program. Database locks are physical locks on the database entries affected by these statements. You can only set a lock for an existing database entry, since the lock mechanism uses a lock flag in the entry. These flags are automatically deleted in each database commit. This means that database locks can never be set for longer than a single database LUW; in other words, a single dialog step in an R/3 application program.
Physical locks in the database system are therefore insufficient for the requirements of an R/3 transaction. Locks in the R/3 System must remain set for the duration of a whole SAP LUW, that is, over several dialog steps. They must also be capable of being handled by different work processes and even different application servers. Consequently, each lock must apply on all servers in that R/3 System.
    SAP Locks:
To complement the SAP LUW concept, in which bundled database changes are made in a single database LUW, the R/3 System also contains a lock mechanism, fully independent of database locks, that allows you to set a lock that spans several dialog steps. These locks are known as SAP locks.
The SAP lock concept is based on lock objects. Lock objects allow you to set an SAP lock for an entire application object. An application object consists of one or more entries in a database table, or entries from more than one database table that are linked using foreign key relationships.
Before you can set an SAP lock in an ABAP program, you must first create a lock object in the ABAP Dictionary.

  • Cannot write to transaction log "C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\sqlanywhere\database\BI4_Audit.log

    Hi friends,
My server Intelligence Agent (SIA) can not start because the database service "SQLAnywhereForBI" can't start also. I got the following error :
"I . 08/09 20:35:06. A read failed with error code: (1392), Le fichier ou le répertoire est endommagé et illisible.
    E. 08/09 20:35:06. Fatal error:  cannot write to transaction log "C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\sqlanywhere\database\BI4_Audit.log"
    E. 08/09 20:35:06. unable to start database "C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\sqlanywhere\database\BI4_CMS.db"
    E. 08/09 20:35:06. Error writing to transaction log file
    I. 08/09 20:35:06. Database server shutdown due to startup error "
    inside the database log file.
    Please, can you help me

I found the solution by following the advice given on the following forum:
    http://evtechnologies.com/transaction-logs-on-sybase-sql-anywhere-and-sap-businessobjects-bi-4-1
In fact, I crushed the BI4_Audit.db and BI4_Audit.log files and I replaced with others that I got from another machine where I installed BO again and where the files are not corrupted . After I logged in to the CMS database by executing the command in the command line:
    dbisql -c "UID = DBA; PWD = mypassword; BI4 Server =; DBF = C: \ Program Files (x86) \ SAP BusinessObjects \ sqlanywhere \ database \ BI4_CMS.db."
Once connected, I start the command:
    alter database 'C: \ Program Files (x86) \ SAP BusinessObjects \ sqlanywhere \ database \ BI4_Audit.db' alter log off;
    The query runs successfully.
And that's good, I can be connected to BO smoothly.
    Thank you again Eric

  • SAP BI u2013 PI u2013 SAP R/3?

    Hi,
Can anyone tell is this requirement is posiible because how we can send alerts to users after  data loads with status becasue  we can send alerts if any critical suitation occurs right?
How we can push data without manual.
1). SAP BI u2013 PI u2013 SAP R/3? I.e.; Delta generated in R/3 should pop into BI through PI directly without    manual push/pull.
2).PI system for monitoring data loads and sends alerts to user (by e-mail) after data loads with status?
    please help me out.

    HI Raju,
       To answer your question 1:
1). SAP BI u2013 PI u2013 SAP R/3? I.e.; Delta generated in R/3 should pop into BI through PI directly without manual push/pull.
It should be possible if you have the idocs avaialble in R/3 and BI systems for handling the data.
    for question 2:
2).PI system for monitoring data loads and sends alerts to user (by e-mail) after data loads with status?
PI will send alerts for any failures within the PI system only.
Any failures outside the purview of PI will not trigger alerts and have to be handled by the system in which the errors occur.

  • SAP BCM 6 +7 // OpenSSL vulnerability "Heartbleed"

    Hi All,
Information on SAP BCM and Heartbleed:
The Heartbleed vulnerability in OpenSSL (CVE-2014-0160) has received a significant amount of attention recently. While the discovered issue is specific to OpenSSL, customers might be wondering whether this affects SAP BCM product.
SAP BCM is not using OpenSSL and thus is not affected by the OpenSSL vulnerability. All versions of SAP BCM are using Windows’ implementation of SSL/TLS (called Secure Channel, a.k.a. SChannel) which is not impacted.

    SAP BCM Team

    Hi Harish,
First of all - a disclaimer... I am a BCM consultant, and my company is heavily involved in BCM implementations, and turn-key BCM solutions... so I'm not going to say that you "must" have a BCM consultant
However, BCM implementation requires a different skillset from your typical Basis skillset. The most important thing is that the individual(s) implementing BCM has been trained by SAP and/or has previous experience - yes there are people out there with supurb skills that can figure anything out, and get it working... But getting the sizing, landscape and network right is extremely important so you also need access to someone with IP telephony skills/experience.
You will also want your voice team to become comfortable with managing and administering BCM as things like maintaining skills, queues, schedules, prompts, capacity, routing, IVR, etc. usually fall in their domain.
    Hope that helps!
    Sincerely,
    Glenn

  • Database maintenance for sqlserver database to improve performance

In our company sqlserver 2008 R2 is working as a project server database.
I want to know commands for database maintenance.
Please let me know all command in order which i need to run in sqlserver for database maintenance.
because i want to increase performance of projectserver 2010.

    Hi John.Eddie,
For increasing SQL Server performance, you can do full daily backup, transaction log backups, check database integrity, rebuild index and update statistics in database maintenance plan.
However, you need to note that running "Shrink Database", it causes disk and as well as index fragmentation and leads to performance issues.
To ensure your database stays healthy and available, there are a few "'must do" tasks. For example:
1.Remove excessive transaction log file fragmentation.
    2.Set auto-growth correctly.
3.Turn off any scheduled shrink operations.
4.Turn on AUTO_CREATE_STATISTICS and AUTO_UPDATE_STATISTICS, plus have a regular process in place to update statistics.
5.Have a regular process to run DBCC CHECKDB, take full database backups, plus differential and log backups for point-in-time recovery.
For more information about database maintenance, you can review the following article.
