SAP Strategy Management implementation :BOOK
Dear Gurus,
I have searched SAP Press and Amazon but didn't find a suitable book for SAP Strategy management implementation.
Could you please mentioned a cook book or ISBN number or any help is appericiatble.
I am looking for Business as well as technical detail.
Thanks & Regards
Arif.Qureshi,
As previously mentioned, there isn't any books about Strategy Management implementation. There are three areas that seem to get the most attention, but as SSM is changing in features, functionality and connectivity, it's moving faster than anything that could be published. The best documentation on implementation of SSM is the guides available on the Service Marketplace. These are regularly updated, so you always have access to the latest information.
1) PAS - You build your multi-dimensional models in PAS. PAS has some amazing flexibility, especially how it handles time. Understanding how to use PAS seems to be a big challenge - as you can tell by the many questions on the Forum regarding models. There is no published book on PAS that I know of and even the PAS training in the SAP Education class is aimed as an overview. My suggestion here is at the very least try to take a SAP Education class on SSM that includes PAS training.
2) Connectivity with SAP BW - Because of some fundamental differences between how PAS and BW deal with data, there is a tool - called the BICA - that SSM uses to harmonize BW and SSM data. There is a paper available on the EPM BPX on best practices with BICA.
3) Wrangling KPIs - Strategy Management is about focusing on the essential areas of a business. Since this is YOUR business, your strategic objectives will be necessarily different - how else can you differentiate your products or services if you are doing everything the same as your competitors? This is not a situation of seeming how many more measures you can include, it's is trying to focus on doing those things that really are going to be game-changers for your organization.
This business side aspect of Strategy Management is actually the area that will show the most success - and ROI - in the organization, although the typical focus is on the technical aspects of the application. Strategy Management continues to change the application to help address the different ways that people construct their organizational strategy and how they communicate it as well as monitor it. Do not underestimate the importance of the business side of this application.
All three of these areas really strongly recommend Consulting Services. There are both SAP and 3rd Party consultants available for these areas. Why should you spend the money on a consultant?
A) You will get implemented and running more quickly - less delays, less problems, more success. I have witnessed several projects where the organization wanted to DIY and faltered because there was no expertise on the team. Projects these days HAVE to be successful -right out of the gate - so get experienced help.
B) Knowledge Transfer - There aren't any books and your boss isn't going to pay for a 5 day offsite training course. Bring in a consultant and work with them to learn what they do, how they do it, so you can become self-sufficient. It's much easier to build a consultant into a project budget than training. Although training is essential, I just never understand why executives neglect this important area.
C) Personalized Help - The needs you have for your implementation and successful operation are going to be unique because it's going to revolve around your current technical architectural, your company's practices, as well as the structure of your organization. Having a consultant allows you to better use your time and the project's time by focusing on the needed areas and getting through the typical bumps that always accompany a new program's rollout.
I am NOT a consultant, so I have no alterior motives. I DO want organizations to be successful with SSM implementations and from what I have witnessed the difference between success and merely muddling through is how willing the organization is to bring in either a SAP consultant or work with a knowledgable 3rd party consultant. -

SAP BW 7.3 Books/References
Hello everybody,
I am new in SAP and I have decided to start my career no too far from what I am doing since long back, than I have chose a technical SAP profile (SAP BW 7.3).
It is not being too hard to learn SAP BW technology, but I feel that it is missing something that could help me to speed up my learning process, than I am here to ask you experts for help.
The first point is, I do need a very good book (two books maybe) to have as guide, bible, to have in my bed desk or in my arms everywhere, every time. What I am looking for is something that brings since the basic data warehousing concepts as data modeling to high level information as BW System monitoring (maybe more).
I found this book "SAP Press - SAP Netweaver BW 7.3 - Practical Guide 2nd Edition", it seems be good, but I would get your opinion before open my wallet.
The second point is, I do need to practice these skills, somehow I do need to to. I have access to a "real" SAP environment for the next 10 months, but I was thinking about something else. I heard Amazon has some systems that I can pay to use, but I am not sure how it works neither if I could create a fake environment where I could get enough practice skills. Could someone share your experience on this?
The third and last point is, I am looking for a system or website where I could practice for my certification test (and also to evaluate my skills).
Thanks you so much for now.Hi Jayram,
I am assuming that you are getting this error when you are loading data from PSA to IO. If so, the error might be because of
1. Duplicate records
PSA might have duplicate records. But you will be able to load only one record to Master data IO. In DTP Update tab, there is an option for "Handle Duplicate Record Keys" . Just enable this & try to load again.
2. Erroneous records.
Some special reocrds are allowed in PSA where as thye might not be allowed in Master Data/Data Targets like Lower case letters/ some speacial characters etc. If error is because of this, then you might need to correct the data at PSA level & reload the data to Master data. Else get it corrected in source system itself & fetch the data to BW. Or write some code to take care of these special characters.
Hope it helps!

Recos for SAP Training Classes or Books
Hi,
I work in the BI area and I want to become more knowledgeable about the Portal. I recently attended the BI/Portal conference and learned some new terms (ie, consumer portal, producer portal). I have minimal knowledge about Portals. I want to learn more about the Portal so I understand how BI reports run in the Portal so that I can create more advanced Portal pages that include BI reports plus data from other data sources.
Can anyone recommend some SAP Portal classes that I should take or any books that would help me gain a better understanding of portals?
Thanks.
SandyHey Sandy,
There are lots and lots of information in SDN and help.sap.com. Since you have asked for, am providing few links which I used when I started. Hope it will b useful for you too..

Hi Gurus,
I am searching for any books for SAP BPC 5.1 or OutlookSoft from which I can get a good idea of where does SAP BPC fit in an enterprise and how to work on it. Unfortunately I couldnt find any books to purchase. Please list any good books for SAP BPC or OutlookSoft I am really eager to gothrough this.
Thanks to everyone in advance !!
Sudhakar KurichetiAlong with the link that Umesh provided, you can find further information under the tabs above, (i.e., downloads, elearning, ...). Other than the wealth of information provided under this network you will need to enroll in SAP-BPC training ($$$).
Please don't take the following personally, you have some very good and valid questions.
I have seen the mess created by people, (some very smart) trying to implement BPC without any real training or experience. I don't recommend it!
I see so many people trying to implement BPC and the questions they post on this forum only demonstrates the individuals lack of knowledge of BPC to the whole world. Don't forget, this is a public forum and many companies/clients/users read the posts to this forum.
This is a great forum for the exchange of information and ideals by people that have anywhere from fundamental to high level expertise with the BPC; there is information posted here you will not find elsewhere. I know some of the people that use to monitor and respond to questions, (some great stuff) now refuse to be bothered because of the people seeking to use this forum for training/education.
Please excuse my venting!
Thanks! -

'Log Book' in plant maintenance (SAP PM module)
Dear Experts
I want to know about 'Log Book' in plant maintenance (SAP PM module). How to work on LOG BOOK & what are the configuration settings available in SAP PM for Log Book?
Basically, the concept of logbook is to update shift activities & measures during Plant Maintenance without SAP. but in SAP, What i know about the Log book in SAP PM is : It is an industry specific feature, before it was only used in (IS- Aeronautical). but now it is available in ECC 6.0 also. To activate this node, we need to update the patch 2.0 in ECC 6.0
Thanx,
PMGURUDear,
The Logbook is an easy-to-use tool that supports the controlling and execution of daily maintenance tasks for assets in operation. This tool provides personnel, who are operating the assets, with the functions to log defects and operational data. It provides maintenance personnel, such as maintenance engineers and technicians, with functions that ensure the timely and reliable execution of their maintenance tasks.
Logbook is easy to use and provides functionality that is seamlessly integrated with follow-on processes of the mySAP for Aerospace & Defense solution for Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO). For example, operational data captured in the Logbook updates measurement points that, in turn, trigger preventive maintenance events. Maintenance work steps created in the Logbook generate material and resource requirements in materials and capacity planning. Material exchanges update the asset structure and automatically generate the required goods movements.
An important business example for using the Logbook is to control the daily line maintenance tasks for aircrafts.
The logbook helps you record defects encountered during aircraft flights and the actions taken to correct them. The log may also include the space to record additional flight data, such as the names of the crew members, flight parameters, payload data, fueling data, flight hours, and cycles operated.

New book about virtualization and SAP systems
Hi guys,
for all of you this may be of interest: there is a new book available, which contains a lot of stuff about virtualization. It is not only VMware, but also Hyper-V, Xen and Sun Solaris Zones. Unfortunately the book is only available in german.
It contains a good overview about each solution and how to use the virtualization solution for your SAP environment.
The book can be ordered on amazon, bol etc.
Regards
AndréThe book is good for beginners to help making a vendor decision and for intermediate users as an installation guide.
It basically walks the reader through the installation of VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, SLES with Xen and Sun Solaris-Zones.
I personally would have preferred to see a little bit more about optimization, but it is definitely a good first release.
One word of warning: I ordered the book directly from SAP Press Germany and even though I got charged $25 for shipping it didn't arrive in prime condition. In fact all corners were bumped and there was also a minor cut across the side of the book. This seems to be caused by using a box for shipping that barely fits the book.
Regardless of the shipping experience I recommend the book if you can read German.
Cheers,
Jens -
SAP Appointment booking system
Hi,
Information requested on Appointment booking system.
Does SAP provide any Appointment booking module?
The module is expected to provide scheduling services
on different activities related to a team which
is involved in providing services to an Organization.
Thanks,
ManzoorI too would love to see this implemented in BC, and know if anyone has had luck with a solution or workaround. The biggest problem currently is the default Events module doesn't have a Time field to allow for time-slots, and sorting on the calendar view by time. If that was implemented it would allow for a good temporary solution.
A great example of a fantastic booking system is Groupon Scheduler http://www.groupon.com/scheduler.
Another great feature would be if BC had iCal (CalDAV) syncing with a scheduling system. -

Applied Kernel Patch to Solaris 10 on v40z, no longer auto boots
I recently updated the patches on a v40z machine including a kernel patch. After rebooting, the machine would no longer automatically boot to Solaris. Instead it would just wait for user input at the Grub bootloader screen. Anyone experienced this or
