SAP BW Developer Vs SAP BW Architect

Hi,
What is the difference between designitations of
BW CONSULTANT
BW DEVELOPER
BW ARCHITECT
Please specify roles and respon....
Thanks

BW King,
A BW Architect would be the person that does much of the data modeling for your BW implementation.  This would involve looking at the technical requirements, and then determining what (if any) standard cubes would best suit the requirements, analyzing what changes would need to be made to them, and coming up with an overall strategy for the BW reporting solution.
A BW Developer would be the person that takes this overall strategy and makes it a reality.
A BW Consultant, generically, could be both an architect, developer, or whatever else the client wanted them to be.
Overall, I imagine very few people label themselves exclusively as a developer/architect.  Most people will bounce between roles all the time.
Hope this helps
Michael

  • Difference SAP BI architect, modeller, Developer & BI functional consultant

    Experts:
So what actually is the difference between an SAP BI architect, SAP BI modeller, SAP BI Developer and an SAP BI functional consultant?
    Thanks

    Hi,
As I know I would define the terms as follows,
SAP BI architect / modeller: There is no such hard differences between architect and modeller. The job of this person would be
Check the feasibility of project in terms of timelines and complexity.
Define the scope of the project (Mainly the business areas).
High level design and Requirement Analysis.
    Blueprinting and functional specification.
Developer: Developer will have main functions as below,
    Technical Specification.
Development of actual objects / Implementation.
    Unit Testing.
    Integration / Module Testing.
SAP BI Functional: This person mainly needs to have functional knowledge on different modules and basics of BW,
    Functional requirement clarification from client.
Making sure that BW development will fulfill the functional requirment.
Helping the developer in Unit / Integration testing phase for testing different functional scenarios.

    Hi,
I am ABAP developer around 4 years of experience, and interested to move towards being a SAP technical architect. How can I go about this transition. while reading through few blogs came across a lot of scattered information about some SAP Certification course followed by the exam for being a technical architect. Got a bit confused. Please advise.
    Appreciate your thoughts...

    Hi,
Before becoming a SAP technical architect, you need several years (at least 5 ) as a SAP basis administrator doing projects like installations, upgrades, hardware migrations, lots of interfaces etc....
So try first to become a SAP admin in a project team, not a production team.

  • SAP Netweaver Architect Document and its place in SDLC

    Hi All,
I am looking forward to look at a sample SAP Netweaver Architect Documument or a Template and want to understand the scope and all details included in the perview of this document.
I understand that Tech Architect Document will be prepared in SDLC after the blueprint is generated.
And a Tech Architect document has the entire landscape integration details along with Non Functional details like performance , scalability etc.
Can some one please send a sample Technical Architect Document based on SAP Netweaver ( Portal ) and explain where does it commence in SDLC .
    Many Thanks,
    Richa

    Hi Richa,
a good place to start would be the Master Guide to NW 7.4 SR1 on SAP Market Place which is here.
The guide goes through everything for planning a NW installation including of course Portal and planning the Landscape design and architectura questions.
    Best regards,

  • SAP SOLUTION ARCHITECT

    Hi Freinds,
I would like to know what is role of SAP SOLUTION ARCHITECT.
Now days I see so many advertises asking for Solution Architect SAP. Is this term used for Sap solution consultant. I would like to know the responsibilities for solution architect.
    With Best Regards,

Easy question to answer if you google the phrase.  There are so many job posting descriptions.  Do a simple search and answer your own question easily.  Here is an example: ["SAP Solution Architect"|http://www.tech-centric.net/it-jobs/SAP-Solution-Architect_436345]

  • Certified Associate SAP Enterprise Architect

Could anyone certified on 'Certified Associate SAP Enterprise Architect' give some guidelines to prepare for the exam?  Would be great if you can share your experience on writing this exam.

I was able to clear this exam few months back . I have seen many people asking about this certification. There is so much to share in terms of experience, but here i would like to highlight few things:
First of all read through this exam and preparation courses here : [http://www12.sap.com/services/education/certification/certificationrole.epx?context=%5b%5bROLE_C_SOA_CER%5d%5d%7c]
This is neither an typical technical exam nor an functional domain specifc course. This mainly is about big SOA engagements in an organisation. Following are major areas of exam:
    Concepts:
SOA history, the SOA overview, journey of SOA so far within SAP, how SAP has adopted SOA model in its practices and many more conceptual points in and around SOA.
    SOA Engagement:
In SOA 200 course you will find different phases illustrating how should SOA transformation happen in any company based on several conditions. This also includes what is the best practice to convert an traditional running software enviornment to SOA oriented enviornment.
    SOA Governance :
How to get engaged in effective SOA cycle and what rules/templates to follow.
Apart from concepts there are courses for real time studies on Provisioning and Consumption sides of SAP SOA.
Related to this you also need knowledge of SAP netweaver tools and how do these tools help in provisioning and consumption and in overall SOA practices.
In general, this is first level course for a person who wants to be an Enterprise Archictect. But I feel there would be a long way to go after this for anyone to become an SOA EA. This course forms a basis of understanding about the buzz word SOA and related scnearios. But a practical engagement is then necessary to move in the direction of an EA.
I think we are(should be) not allowed to come up with the question paper, but I can give you some hints on the pattern asked in this certification:
The questions are arranged mostly as per the chapters of different courses - SOA100, 200, 110 and Netweaver.
If you read whole SOA 200 it is easier to clear the certification exam because SOA 200 is the important part of whole learning. The major focus is on Introduction chapters of SOA and several definitions besides different phases (view/matrices/templates).
Netweaver topics are huge and it is not possible for anyone to cover all the stacks of Netweaver like PI, MDM, BI, Composition via CAF/CE..
which means that there can be some technical questions which will not be possible to answer unless you have worked on that area throughly. So its better to go with best knowledge on these topics before appearing in the exam or just leave on your luck otherwise ).
SOA100 is very interesting in reading and for understanding as well. The questions are very easy also to answer in this area.
I would say this course should be more considered as interesting learning and its not safe to leave any topic or chapter among these courses for exam as all the courses contribute to questions in the exam.
    Hope it helps .

  • SAP workflow architect with 9 years, newbie to OpenText VIM

    Hi,
I understand that unlike SAP workflow, most of the out of the box requests which clients come up in OpenText, are to be done by the use of ABAP classes and configuration. Please let me know a suitable place, where I could learn this or let me know, what exactly is to be done here.

  • Disable URL-Mangling in BSP Runtime

    Hi Experts,
we decided to provide some web applications für mobile devices. Currently (and maybe never) WD ABAP does not support mobile devices. Therefore we are looking for alternatives.
There are a lot of threads in the net where other people discussed the same topic and several decided to use BSP. We wanted to use BSP and jQueryMobile but we noticed that there are some problems because of URL-Mangling / rewriting.
Do you have any idea if it is possible to disable URL-Mangling without modification? We already thought about an own request handler in TA SICF but in this case we also need an own CL_BSP_RUNTIME (to disable the coding in method on_check_rewrite). However this is difficult because some standard BSP runtime classes (RUNTIME, NAVIGATION...) are marked as final, so it isn't possible to inherit from them and we don't want to copy / redevelop all relevant classes.
Furthermore there are other disadvantages like:
    - many redirects (problematical with low-bandwidth connections)
    - client cookie handling is more difficult
    Do you have any idea?
    Kind regards
    Danny

    Hello!
I've done quite a lot of BSP development together with and without javascript frameworks like jQuery. It's possible to create a scenario without URL mangling if you set the system architecture in a specific way. I could speak a lot about this setup as it works really well! Here is a quick guide to get started:
    Step 1:
The BSP runtime isn't really used at all. Create a BSP application but only store MIME objects in it. The MIME objects isn't URL mangled! The drawback is of course you can't do server side ABAP in your HTML documents. On the positive side, any Web Developer can create the HTML and javascript without ABAP programming skills. SAP functions as a static web server with all the benefits of the ICM cache and transport system.
    Step 2:
Add an external alias in SICF for the BSP application. Like pointing "/myapp" to "/sap/bsp/sap/zmyapp_v001". The external alias is configured with a service account (without any authorizations) with authentication set to "Required with Logon Data". All fields should be specified (Client, User and Language). Now, any anonymous user can request the HTML files without interfering with logon data.
You don't need an external alias, but they come in handy to have nice-looking URLs; the possibility to change their target when you have multiple versions at the same time; and you can create multiple alias for the same application with different logon data. Like "/myapp/english" if you want. Or "/myapp/client800". Or "/myapp/latest", "/myapp/version1" etc.
    Step 3:
Create a custom HTTP handler for your business data and assign it to a node in SICF. For example "/customers/orders/get" or whatever you find appropriate for your app. Since you now have your own handler, the BSP runtime isn't involved and no URL mangling exists.
The handler returns data in a suitable format for Web Developers (read: JSON).
Protect this node with security that matches the flexibility required from the frontend. I usually set another service account for this service and handle authorization myself; returning HTTP status codes like 403, 200 to the Web Developer (but not 401 as it's quite difficult to handle in AJAX scenarios). In it's most simple form you can provide username and password as form fields and perform a user switch in the handler for every request, effectively changing SY-UNAME in the handler ensuring that the correct user context is used.
    Best regards,
    Mikael Gurenius
    SAP Solution Architect (Mobility)
PS: MIME objects are of course served with URL Mangling if referenced relative to the BSP application. You can avoid this (for example for the Apple icons) by always linking your MIME objects from the root. Get the application path using code or type manually. Like
      <link rel="apple-touch-icon-precomposed"
    sizes="57x57"
href="<%= lv_path %>/icon_57x57.png" /> where lv_path is "/myapp/images" or "/sap/bc/bsp/myapp/images". If you do this, you can have URL Mangling (and do ABAP development) in your BSP pages but still have "clean" URLs for MIME objects.

First I exported data from interactive planning , updated some data in file and again trying to upload same file.
    I am getting following error
    File cannot be uploaded
    Message no. /SAPAPO/SDP_UPLOAD009
    Diagnosis
File  has no technical information or incorrect technical information.
    Procedure
Save the file again locally. Make sure that the file has the technical information.
Could u please suggest what needs to be done
    Thanks and regards,
    Nitin Lavhe

    Hello,
For using the upload data functionality from interactive planning grid, you need to first download the data. While downloading the data, please check the check box for "Prepare the file for upload at later time", and then select the option of putting the technical setting into the file or into the system. Either way is okay. Then try uploading the same file.
    This should solve your problem.
    Thank you.

  • Purchase order distrubution using EDI

    Hi, SAP gurus!
I am trying to set up Purchase order distrubution using EDI. ORDERS idocs will be sent through middleware message broker. I added ORDERS idoc in LS partner profile outbound data and set up medium type 6 for PO output. Something else is missing since I can't add manually output to a purchase order - error message VN032: "Maintain outgoing EDI-connection data for partner"
    "Short Text
Maintain outgoing EDI-connection data for partner &
    Diagnosis
The system could not locate the EDI partner agreements (outbound) for partner .
    System Response
You cannot use transmission medium 'EDI' with this partner.
    Procedure
Maintain the EDI partner agreements for partner . Make sure to create entries for output control as well as for outbound parameters."
What else is needed besides outbound idoc data in partner profiles?
Maybe I have to do everything completely different?
    Thanks!

If it's an EDI interface, you should be using a trading partner partner profile type (KU or LF) ... a customer or vendor ... not a logical system, although you can use LS it's not really an optimal solution and you need to create more generic configuration to generate your IDocs from your business documents.
I cover configuration of output control for outbound EDI invoices in a series of blog postings at:

  • Current and previous balance

    Hello everybody,
I am SAP XI Architect. I am analyzing an interface for customer balances. I have a requirement to send the Current balance and Previous balance to 3rd party tool. The previous balance is till last transaction period (for example: till last quarter or till last month). In which Transaction I can find this balances?
With my little FI knowledge I tried these T-codes FD10N, FS10N, F.08... Can I find my requirement in this T-codes?
    Thanks in Adv,
    Greetings
    XI/PI

Hi, KE24 gives the details, if you just want to know the details. You need to give the operating concern. Record type F (billing), company code and the period for which you want to know the balance.
You need to change the layout for sales order and Product. Hope this helps.

  • Authentication Ticket Type setting in BI Portal

In the BI Portal's System definition for the backend BI ABAP system, is there any harm in using the SAP Logon Ticket as the "Authentication Ticket Type" instead of SAP Assertion ticket?
I have a federated portal configuration where the BI Portal is a producer.  I configured the consumer portal's UME to use LDAP as the user store and the ABAP user mappings are defined in the consumer portal only.  The BI producer portal is also setup to use the LDAP as the user store and is also configured to use SPNEGO -- the reason for this is so that the user doesn't have to login when he's accessing the BI reports through bookmarks in the browser favorites.  The BI Portal doesn't have any user mapping to the backend ABAP system.  It relies on the consumer portal's MYSAPSSO2 ticket's user mapping.  In this configuration, I can run BI Bex reports iviews from the consumer portal through federated portal delta links to the BI producer portal.  This only works however if on the BI Portal I set the "Authentication Ticket Type" setting to SAP Logon Ticket.  The Bex reports stop working if I set the "Authenticaion Ticket Type" to SAP Assertion ticket.   The SAP Assertion ticket does work however if I setup user mapping on the BI producer portal -- I really want to avoid setting up user mapping in both the consumer and producer portals.
    Thanks in advance.

Mel, I am not 100% sure, but I think the federated portal requires both consumer and producer to use the same data source.
Whoops! Misread your message. As to your question, I do not know why you could not use logon tickets.
