  • SAP Hardware sizing for "User-Based sizing".

    Short Text
    User-based Hardware Sizing
    Long Text
    Dear SAP Support,
We would like to know the SAP Hardware sizing for "User-Based sizing".
    Our queries is
    1. In "User-Based sizing", What we have to consider,
the number of users are calculated in the basis of
Concurrent users in the system in a given point of time
    or
total number of users logged into the systems in the whole day?
We have referred the SAP document "Sizing SAP System" and the above
    point are not clearly mentioned.
    Regards,

As the document says there are number of possible definitions for "users" in SAP context...
For understanding assume that no of users logged to the system they consume different resources / areas in the system, some login to the system whole day but they don't work whole day, some user open multiple session to work while other open multiple session but they don't exactly work on it which means (every new session consume memory/resources) like you said their are concurrent users wherein they work and consume resources (SAP WPs)
So before finalizing the sizing first compare the both reports (user based, thorhgput) and read the advantages and disadvantages for both. You can also consult with SAP / Account Manager to help you
as per SAP document there's no point in counting no of pc's, laptops to calculate no of users

  • SAPS in sizing Guide

    Hi
Can you please help me to find out more details about processor in MDM sizing?
From CPU I got result: 6500 I do not know how can I find processor, can you help me ?
    I found something here:
    http://aroundsap.blogspot.com/2007/09/sap-hardware-sizing-and-benchmarking.html
but that is not exactly what I am looking for.
Many thanks for finding CPU type.
My result for RAM is 10 GB do you think that is correct, we have 8 repositories?
I think my calculation is correct - I just woult like to have others consultancy
    Thank you in advance.
    Have a nice day.
    BR
    Michal

    Hi ,
SAP periodically benchmarks different servers and indicates their SAPS. Visit:
    http://www.sap.com/solutions/benchmark/index.epx
Select on the right under SD Benchmarks ->"SD two-tier results" (as NW MDM is more similar to a 2 tier architecture).
A table will open with all benchmarked server's SAPS results.
    The list updates periodically.
You can download it to a text delimited file.
Hard to indicate regarding the RAM you received without having more details.
The calculation should be done for each repository on the server separately and then added up.
Generally, 10GB memory seems a resonable result.

    Hedda Cohen.

  • SAP EP Sizing Queries

    All,
We have designed a clustered architecture of two SAP J2ee Engines ( one central instance
and a dialog instance ) with no fail over option . I used quick sizer tool for initial sizing .
    My queries are
    1) In the quick sizer , I got 2800 SAPS for Enterprise Portal . Does it mean that the J2ee Engine ( Central instance ) has to be powered
    with 2800 SAPS ?
    2) What about the other J2ee engine ( dialog instance ). Is it have to be the same 2800 or 2800/2 ?
    3) In your experience , do you give equal power ( SAPS ) to both  dialog and central instance ?
    4) There are other components in the portal like ESS/MSS , LSO .So do we need to calculate the SAPS for each of these and add to
central instance and Dialog instance ?
    5) The portal Database in a separate box , Quick sizer doesn't give any idea how to size this .Any clue about this ?
    Aneez

    Hi,
If 2800 is the total SAPS required, then one would distribute the SAPS between database host, central instance and application host. there is no rule of thumb that CI should have more SAPS than DI, it depends on how you architect the design. ALso hardware vendors inputs would be helpful. Each server would be sized for optimum SAPS>. If you have not considered EsS/MSS or LSO during the initial sizing then ou need to reconsider it or look for additional hardware for the aextra SAPS.
Between the DB and CI, one could distribute the SAPS 40/60.
Also for each CPU, you should consider 2 - 4 GB of RAM, dependending on what hardware you choose.
    Hope this helps,
    Chetan

  • SAP Archiving Sizing

    Hello,
I am attempting to determine the sizing requirements for the native SAP data archiving capability. I realize that sizing requirements are dependent upon an upfront analysis of the potential archiving objects, however, I'm simply trying to get an idea for planning purposes. At this point we are only looking at native SAP functionality and not 3rd party tools or storage. I would like to know how CPU and RAM will be affected when reporting runs are executed on archived objects. There are no sizing algorithms or documentation specific to archiving that I have been able find online.
    Thanks.

    Hi Christopher,
Do you have an oss id?  If so, there is a document out on www.service.sap.com/ilm titled "Performance Aspects of Data Archiving".  This document is located if you scroll down within the "News" box in the upper right hand corner.
This white paper discusses the relationship between data archiving and system performance. It demonstrates under which circumstances data archiving can help improve the performance of a system, and which concrete steps must be taken to achieve this goal.
    Hope this helps.

  • SAP system sizing

    Hello,
Using quicksizer tool, the result is obtained in SAPS.
Couldyou please provide the formula or approximation of how to calculate the system resoources based on SAPS.
    Thanks.

    Hi Gautam,
Just start a Quicksizer and it will open a new window..there  select the option
"for beginner" where you will get a detailed understanding of QuickSizer tool.
Basically it is helpful when you are going to do a userbased or throughput sizing.
Please have a look at the documentation on service.sap.com/quicksizing ->
Quick Sizer tool -> Using the Quick Sizer -> Beginners ->
The buttons inside the project are shelf explanatory.
Let me know if anything is not clear.

  • SAP CE SIZING

    Dear All,
We are planing to Implement the SAP BPM in our land scape.

I tried searching the Quick sizer in the service market place but i did not find any clue.
Could any one help us for the sizing SAP CE
    Awaiting for your reply.

    Hi,
Try the Quick Sizer tool in the following way:
    - Customer no. = 188213
    - Project Name = A
    - Click 'Display Projects'
    - In the search box use 'CE'
    - Check the 'Match whole word' box below the search box
That should give you some results. You'll see a SAP Netweaver Composition Environment sizing option. That should get you started although it looks like it CE 7.1 related.

  • SAP Quick Sizing

When you are in the quick sizer, there are elements that are listed in the tool by functional area. The question I have is, a way to use the element to find out what SAP tables are tied to these elements in SAP. I am dealing with gathering data in existing SAP instance to bench mark the volume information. Is there a way to see what SAP tables are tied to the elements in quick sizer tool? Where and how can I see them?
    Thanks

I was struggling with the same problem before. There's no easy way of pulling the data out. However, if you have installed the ST/A-PI addon (for early watch alerts) you can use transaction ST14 and do a run for the specific modules and see the amount of entries in the tables. Otherwise you'll need to dig through the application tables using SE16 (or SQL) with the help of some application guy/girl or by digging yourself.

  • Some Doubts on SAP Sizing.

    Hi Experts,
I am doing sizing for SAP SRM 7.02 server for 25 users concurrent users.
I have entered the following details in the quicksizer tool. I have entered 25 in Medium activity users.
    Following results are displayed.
So please tell me the inputs are correct in quicksizer or not? correct me if I am wrong.
In the result it shows 2000 SAPS (Total CPU requirement in SAPS), so please let me know what 2000 SAPS is?
In next screen it shows 500 DB SAPS, here also I am confused.
Please anyone explain me the result, I am newbie in quicksizer and need your help.
    Regards,
    Amit.

    Hello Amit,
there is no right or wrong input in Quick Sizer. It must reflect the business of your company, You have entered 25 medium activity users. This means that these concurrently active users are working with a think time of 60 seconds. Does it make sense? In parallel you could also enter the throughput questionaire. Basically, you have to enter the number of SRM orders that are being processed in a defined period of time.
Of course it's sometimes difficult to find accurate numbers. But you have to come up with some good assumptions and ask the right people in the company (not only IT department but also someone from the application team). It's absultely crucial to work hand in hand with the right people.
Please have also a look into our sizing materials at www.service.sap.com/sizing where sizing problems are being discussed and where you find pretty good sizing materials.
SAPS is a hardware-independent unit which describes the power of the hardware:  http://global.sap.com/campaigns/benchmark/measuring.epx
Once you have figured out the SAPS requirements you can have a look at www.sap.com/benchmarks --> two-tier benchmarks to find sample configurations which fits to your sizing result.
    I hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Sebastian
