SAP CPS Agentless Implementation

Dear All,
we're analysing the possibility to extend our CPS implementation to other servers in our environment.
We have CPS licensed for 1 process server managing SAP only processes on several SAP instances.
In order not to manage agent installation and eventual updates on more than 100 servers, is there an agentless implementation scenario for SAP CPS?
Has someone experienced such an issue?

effective from CPS Build M25 the following taken from the CPS Adminstration Guide (as supplied with M33.7) applies:
Automatically Updating Platform Agents Use
When the Central Server is updated to a new version the platform agents need to be upgraded as well. The software tries to make this as painless as possible. At the moment the UNIX and Microsoft Windows platform agents can update themselves, if certain conditions are met. This functionality is not available for the HP OpenVMS and IBM z/OS agents.
The admin guide goes on to explain the detail. So this is CPS functionality - out of the box.
From the same document in the section titled Creating Platform Process Servers describes unattended installations for both Windows and Unix.

How to delete a user in SAP-CPS Version 7.0

Hello,
I created my users via UME ( User Management Engine of Java Application server). Unfortunately I used the wrong name convention, so I had to recreate all the users in UME. Afterwards I delete all wrong users in UME.
Than I tried to login with my new user in SAP-CPS (users are normally created in SAP-CPS during first login) but I get the error message that I reached the maximum number of 10 users allowed in the basic version. No problem I thougt, I simply delete the wrong ones in SAP-CPS. But I do not know how to delete a user! I could not find any menu item or any describtion in the manualls how to delete an user in SAP-CPS.
I remove the users from any Isolation group, I disabled all the users but still I could not find any way to delete them.
Has any body a hint for mor.

deactivating the unused users made it possible to login with the new ones.

Issue in SAP CPS for Job Interception

Issue in SAP CPS for Job Interception
Scenario:
After triggering a Process Chain in BW and maintaining the Job Interception settings in SAPCPS(Redwood)
(so that any job which triggers in BW by that Particular User is intercepted and not let it proceed further until the job is released in SAP CPS.)
Issue:
The Jobs are getting into Waiting status in SAP CPS(Redwood) even though there is no progress in loads in BW side. Also the Jobs are in Intercepted state even after releasing the Parent Job in SAP CPS(Redwood).
Please let us know how to go about it.

What you plan to do is called monitoring of process chains (ie. process chains not started from CPS) and this should be available in the latest version of CPS.
This requires the interception of only the BI_PROCESS_TRIGGER process, just as you have configured now, and other than that the following prerequisites:
SAP Note 1080558 describes the SP levels for the BW/BI releases
XBP 2.0 or higher
Redwood transport files must be loaded
ProcessServerService.SAP.XBPVariant license key

As previously mentioned, there isn't any books about Strategy Management implementation. There are three areas that seem to get the most attention, but as SSM is changing in features, functionality and connectivity, it's moving faster than anything that could be published. The best documentation on implementation of SSM is the guides available on the Service Marketplace. These are regularly updated, so you always have access to the latest information.
1) PAS - You build your multi-dimensional models in PAS. PAS has some amazing flexibility, especially how it handles time. Understanding how to use PAS seems to be a big challenge - as you can tell by the many questions on the Forum regarding models. There is no published book on PAS that I know of and even the PAS training in the SAP Education class is aimed as an overview. My suggestion here is at the very least try to take a SAP Education class on SSM that includes PAS training.
2) Connectivity with SAP BW - Because of some fundamental differences between how PAS and BW deal with data, there is a tool - called the BICA - that SSM uses to harmonize BW and SSM data. There is a paper available on the EPM BPX on best practices with BICA.
3) Wrangling KPIs - Strategy Management is about focusing on the essential areas of a business. Since this is YOUR business, your strategic objectives will be necessarily different - how else can you differentiate your products or services if you are doing everything the same as your competitors? This is not a situation of seeming how many more measures you can include, it's is trying to focus on doing those things that really are going to be game-changers for your organization.
This business side aspect of Strategy Management is actually the area that will show the most success - and ROI - in the organization, although the typical focus is on the technical aspects of the application. Strategy Management continues to change the application to help address the different ways that people construct their organizational strategy and how they communicate it as well as monitor it. Do not underestimate the importance of the business side of this application.
All three of these areas really strongly recommend Consulting Services. There are both SAP and 3rd Party consultants available for these areas. Why should you spend the money on a consultant?
A) You will get implemented and running more quickly - less delays, less problems, more success. I have witnessed several projects where the organization wanted to DIY and faltered because there was no expertise on the team. Projects these days HAVE to be successful -right out of the gate - so get experienced help.
B) Knowledge Transfer - There aren't any books and your boss isn't going to pay for a 5 day offsite training course. Bring in a consultant and work with them to learn what they do, how they do it, so you can become self-sufficient. It's much easier to build a consultant into a project budget than training. Although training is essential, I just never understand why executives neglect this important area.
C) Personalized Help - The needs you have for your implementation and successful operation are going to be unique because it's going to revolve around your current technical architectural, your company's practices, as well as the structure of your organization. Having a consultant allows you to better use your time and the project's time by focusing on the needed areas and getting through the typical bumps that always accompany a new program's rollout.
I am NOT a consultant, so I have no alterior motives. I DO want organizations to be successful with SSM implementations and from what I have witnessed the difference between success and merely muddling through is how willing the organization is to bring in either a SAP consultant or work with a knowledgable 3rd party consultant.

Hi,
In the installation and administration guide you'll probably find some examples.
The Job Definition you need is SAP_AbapRun to run any ABAP.
You submit this, specify the parameters as desired, and scheduling information, and that should do the trick.
That is assuming you have already connected CPS to an SAP system.

How to Schedule a Job Chain to start automatically on SAP CPS.

I did a job chain and i want to run automatically on sap cps Tuesday thru Saturday at 6:00 a.m., i make a calendar on sap cps with this specific options but the job chain doesn't start running. I don't know if i need to do something more, so if someone can give a little help with this i will apreciate a lot.

Creation and Generation of report in SAP CPS

Hello Experts,
Please suggest me and guide me how to create and generate a report in SAP CPS. Some of the functionalities are not properly explained in Admin guide.I got very less information regarding this.Below is my requirement.
I want to generate a report that should show the list of jobs for the past 1 month.The report should be dynamic.No hard code.I want to run this report at the end of every month.So for this i will create a time window.
So please help me to proceed with my task.Also please provide me some links where i should get the full functionalities for all the tabs under report along with example so that i could better understand it.

The easiest approach is the following:
- go to the Job Monitor, and create a job filter that matches your needs (or check if it already exists)
- when you have a filter that suits your needs (in this case: last month's jobs), go to Definitions, Reports
- create a new Report, based on a query filter: the name of the filter you created (or a predefined one)
- add columns to your report (or add all columns)
- add a sort order if you want to
- further where clauses are not required if the filter already does what you want it to do
- save the report
Use the JobDefinition System_ReportRun (if I recall correctly) to schedule this report on the last day of every month.

SAP CPS - Starting SAP RFC-Agent fails

I try to start an SAP RFC-Agent for a specific SAP instance (which is one of the test environments) and a client in a Redwood Cronacle Repository Version 7.0.3 which fails.
I get the following error message:

With the command "show license" in Redwood Shell rs I can see that there is a line which checks whether the SAP instance is productive or not ("Y SAP non-production"). I know this check is not there in Version 7.0.4 but at this point in time we cannot upgrade our whole platform.
I went to my inhouse SAP colleagues. They checked the definition for that SAP instance and that client. It is defined as test and not productive. Nevertheless the check in Redwood Cronacle brings back that it is a productive system.

From your description you seem pretty sure that in your Test SAP Instance, having used transaction SCC4 the client role is configured as a non-production client? And I assume from SAP CPS the SAP connect string defined uses the same client and is definitely pointing to your Test SAP instance?
With regards to the license check not being there in 7.0.4 and not wanting to upgrade. You shouldn't need to. As I understand things the license key was included without considering/understanding the practical implications, e.g. how was a customer going to import thier existing Batch into a test CPS environment if they cannot initially connect to production!! And as you know was later removed again. All you need to do I believe is create an OSS message including you current license information and ask that a new key be generated that has the restriction removed. You should then be able to just apply the new license over the old. SAP should include the necessary instructions for applying the license.

Hello 'Siva,
if the required component for CPS is NW Java Application Server 700 and your ECC 6.0 is ABAP only, then i'll not work.
If your BI Java system is on 700 level, then you can install this component there - if no further requirements are needed.
Finally, if your BI communicates w/o problems with your ECC (which I believe it does), then CPS will communicate fine as well (that is, it'll schedule jobs in ECC w/o problems).

Do we need to install SAP Portal for implementation of ESS & MSS

We are implementing SAP (ECC 6.0) for one of our client, Due to some contractual limitations, we do not want to implement SAP portal though it is a part of standard delivery, I want to know that is it absolutely necessary to install and implement SAP portal for implementation of ESS & MSS.
What i know and understand is that with the new architecture ESS & MSS can be deployed and accessed as a stand alone application on an internet browser by (Web dynpro client) without any need of enterprise portal. While ESS & MSS application can be hosted on Web application server.
Please validate my understanding if it is correct, Also does the new Web dynpro based client support all the functionality and authorization related issues for ESS & MSS ??

Hi Amit,
Yes, you can run ESS/MSS as WebDynpro application without having to deploy on Portal. However, the look and feel and user accessibility is much better when deployed as Portal page. For WebDynpro, you will still need to publish the individual URL link to application somewhere...
Another point is that on portal you can deploy standard Business package specific to ESS and MSS which contains lots of readymade iviews/page/roles etc so it can reduce your development cost dramatically.
But, at the end it all depends on your individual requirement and project scope.

Mass Activity - Error in SAP CPS

I am trying to run a mass activity from SAP CPS in the ISU system. I imported the mass activity - 0004, the posting and the document date had to be changed dynamically, so I created a parameter set as shown here.
Created a job to copy parameters(these two parameters only). Ran the job, the parameters are created and copied to target id FPMA5
Created a copy of the job SAP_MassActivityTemplateRun -> Used the Target ID as shown and date as today.
So, I am consuming the Identification FPMA5 from the previous job run here. Tried to run it, getting the below error in the SAP CPS system.

I now added other parameters into the parameter set, maintained them in the COPY_Parameter job. Even then I get the same error!
I believe my problem is this - I am able to copy the parameters, but passing them to the Mass activity is somehow failing(I am using the MASS_ACTIVITY_TARGET_ID field output from Copy parameters to MASS_ACTIVITY_ID, which I believe is wrong. But I want to use the copy parameter job's output in the mass activity template run). Please let me know.

Hi Pavan,
To create a job chain-level parameter, proceed as follows:
Go to Definitions > Job Chains and choose Edit on your job chain
In the job chain editor, click on the Parameters tab
Click Add, fill in Name, for example MASS_ACTIVITY_DATE, fill 0 into Display Order.
In default expression field, fill =Time.expressionNow('truncate day add 3 days')
Make sure Display is checked, click Save
Submit the job chain, you will notice that the date is as expected, cancel the submit.
In the job chain, go to the job for which you want to set the parameter and choose Reference, select the job chain parameter.
The above will use the date at submit time + 3 days, if you want to use the runtime date, when the job chain starts, you disable Display and enable Runtime, remove 'add 3 days'.
