SAP Discovery System Procurement

Does anyone have the contact information for the current & active HP representative responsible for the SAP Discovery systems? 
The listed HP rep on the spec sheet is no longer responsible.  The person he forwarded us to does not return calls.  The front line HP sales representatives cannot find the current product listed.  They assume since it was offered on a G5, which is now in end of life, the product is no long sold.  Any leads would be helpful.

    Dear all,
    Do you know if customers who run a SAP Discovery system are entitled to any kind of dedicated support from SAP? For instance, via their regular support engagements such as Standard Support, Enterprise Support, Safeguarding or MaxAttention?
    Or do they have to contact another instance within SAP if they require help with the setup or operations of the SAP Discovery system?

    There are no restrictions for creating custom clients on the Discovery System box.
    It is highly recommended to backup your current server before customizing the box so you can return to the original state if needed.

    will the SAP Discovery System for Enterprise SOA only be avaliable as a appliance as I've read on NetWeaver04s on Discovery System? Will there be a normal installation like a IDES System?
    Perhaps a good idea for a quick start would be a peinstalled Linux Based VMWare Image :-).

    Hi Gregor,
    among the reasons for shipping the Discovery System as an appliance are legal reasons. So as long as there are 3rd party components involved (from SAP perspective) you'd need to be an official distributor for them. Obviously this restriction applies to VMWare Images as well.
    An IDES-like installation is facing the challenge of integrating multiple components (that normally have to be installed separately) and their configuration data during the set-up already. This can be done as the example of Rapid Installer shows. But it is certainly more work to accomplish it.
    As always: Making a complex system easy to use/set-up requires extended efforts behind the scenes. So it is always necessary to find the trade-off between "time to market" and "plug-and-play". So currently the availability as appliance is a compromise of both.

    Unfortunately not, in the DSv3 the PI 7.0 is using the same NW 7.0 stack that is used by the ERP 6.0. You can't upgrade PI 7.0 to PI 7.1 without effecting the ERP. PI 7.1 runs on NW 7.1 while ERP 6.0 runs only on NW 7.0.

    We have setup our Discovery System and we’re trying to connect it to our DEV 4.7 system for the purpose of prototyping the use of BI and the Enterprise Portal.  We’re running into issues due to our lack of knowledge and SAP’s lack of good documentation in these areas.  We’re wondering if there’s any support help you can provide to establish the connections between these systems and get some of the packaged functionality activated?  Please let me know.

    AJit, lots of points of learning here.
    firstly, have you run through the basic excercises associated with the discovery system, including defining your own scenarios that you wish to test just using the components on the server?
    I am sure you have already looked here but this is the jump off page to the discovery server assets.

    As for connectivity from the DS to the 4.7 ERP, you should either be configuring your XI instance to manage the interaction, or web service enabling the BAPI you wish to interact with and calling it from the visual composer tooling on the server.
    Also, you can raise a support ticket following the usual process if you have a specific issue or cnnectivity requirements on you 4.7 instance.
    Finally, are you sure you want to use your backend erp and not the erp2005 deployed on the box?

    the Discovery system comes pre-packaged as one set of Hardware, Software and Content. It can be obtained via SAP's hardware partners only and will always comprise of sufficient hardware and OS. You can find the details here:[http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/discoverysystem]
    As the system is designed to serve as a sandbox for evaluation and prototyping you should not expect any affects on your current landscape. Unless you would like to implement something specific.

    technically I'd presume yes. However hardware resources are limited on the box and it might not meet your expectations from a performance perspective. Unfortunately I personally haven't heard of somebody doing that. So I can't tell you what to expect.
    Whatever you decide to do: Please make sure to have a working backup in place before making major changes to the system.

    Certainly an interesting discussion thread we have here.  We had size limitations on the amount of software to place on the DS so did not preload the NWDI
    Go to the SDN DS exercise page and you will be able to download the NWDI client and connect it to the DS.    You can also follow this link: SAP Discovery System for Enterprise SOA - Introductory Exercises [original link is broken] 
    Three steps:
    1. Read the instructions under "Installing NetWeaver Development System on a Client" PDF
    2. Within that document, follow instructions to download the JDK, NWDI software, and optionally Adobe Lifecycle Designer
    3. Download the workaround software itself under following paragraph on exercise page.
