SAP ECC Migration from Physical to ESX

Dear All,
My company is moving from Physical Servers to Virtual Platform (Vmware ESX). We are using 7.2 kernel on RHEL 5.3 64 bit for SAP HCM. My plan is;
1) Shutdown all services
2) Clone Physical Server into VM using vCenter Converter
3) change all DNS Base information and update IP address
4) Restart the services on new server with new IP Address
My take is i need to request new License for new Hardware. Please suggest me what else i need to consider during this process.
Thanks.

Hi,
My take is i need to request new License for new Hardware
Yes you need to request for new license since your hardware is changing.
Apart from the steps mentioned by you,
1) You need to readjust the RFCs
2) Adjust the TMS configuration
3) Adjust the SAPlogon pad entries for endusers.

  • Sap Server movement from physical to virtual(p2v)

    Hi all,
We currently have two older versions of R/3 running 4.6c and 4.7ee, both IDES versions.
These versions have been out of support for some time.
We have these instances running for reference purposes. We have new versions of R/3 ECC 5.0, 6.0
also running in our company. All these versions of R/3 are IDES.
Our Windows administrators are of the opinion that servers on which the instances 4.6c and 4.7ee are running are very old,
and spares are hard to find. So they want to move these instances from a physical environment to a virtual environment.
I have read through the Note: 1409608.
    It says,
SAP does not support SAP systems that are installed on Windows 32-bit
in a virtualized environment. If you plan to migrate your SAP system that is running
on native hardware on Windows 32-bit to a virtualized environment
on Windows 64-bit, it might be necessary to upgrade the SAP system to a higher release.
For these configurations, SAP recommends to migrate the SAP system to Windows x64 first
and then upgrade the SAP system.
Now, I don't think is it quite possible to upgrade 4.6c and 4.7ee to 64 bit.
License keys on windows are based on SID, Hostname, MAC address of the network card.
If we make sure that the MAC address is the same and
that its at the same place as before(sequence of multiple network cards is the same),
we can still Use the old license.
Our Windows guys say its very hard to retain the MAC address, they can try it.
So with these old versions of R/3, how can we keep them running, if they have to be moved from Physical to virtual,
as license keys and installation software is hard to get.
    Regards,
    Vishnu.

    Hi Markus,
Thanks for your reply. Would open an OSS call.
I have looked at the note mentioned by you, and since our OS is windows, I thought the below statement
holds good in my case. From the note I have also deduced that for Windows, licenses are based only on the Hardware Key.
Am I wrong in assuming this?
Only Windows uses a hardware key that does NOT depend on the hardware.
A new installation of Windows definitely causes the hardware key to change.
I have also looked at note 793649, which says Hardware key changes only when,
    1. Formatting the machine and reinstalling Windows.
    2. When changing the computer name.
    3. When changing the domain (it will not change back when returning to the previous domain).
    Regards,
    Vishnu.

  • SAP Archiving - Migrating from one archive backend to another.

    Hi,
We use SARA for archiving and the archiving system is IBM Provided Filenet Database with ACSAP middle-ware.
From 1999 till 2009 we have archived terabytes of data into Filenet Database.
We plan to discontinue Filenet as our choice of archiving backend system and will like to migrate all existing archived data to the new archivingsystem. We are yet to decide what new system will will move to.
We are looking for help from SAP to answer following questions:
    1) Is it possible migrate all past data from existing archiving system to a new one?
    2) If Yes, then what is the broad approach? Does the data have to be retrieved back to SAP OR Can it be directly migrated from one backend to another one?
Retrieving the data and reloading into another tool in my opinion would be rather cumbersome and stupid method until this is the only option.
In Any case, at the end of day we want that all the data should be readable from SAP like before.
    3) Is there any SAP provided tool that we can use rather then going for a 3rd party product?
    4) Please guide to migration related documentation.
Thank you in advance for your support.
    Regards,
    Chandra.

    Hello Chandra
yes- there are ways to migrate data out of Filenet into 3rd party tool without retrieving them back through SAP. I am not aware of any SAP tool itself but we have one and could help you with this effort. Please contact me at 610 3508677 and we can discuss the possibilities.

  • SAP ECC upgrade from EHP6 to EHP7

Is  GTS upgrade from NW 7.2 to GTS  7.3  to be mandated as ECC is getting upgraded from  ECC 6.0 EHP6 to  EHP 7 .  Why?

    Hi John,
Your statement looks a bit misaligned.. There is no GTS 7.3 version, the SAP Netweaver 7.3* application server on which SLL_LEG GTS component sits.
The underlying Netweaver AS versions between ECC and GTS systems can be different BUT what needs to be the same is the GTS plugin component in ECC and GTS components in GTS system itself, as best practice they should also be on the same support pack level.
If the ECC upgrade from ehp6 to ehp7 requires you to upgrade SLL_PI gts plugin component in ECC, then in this case you should upgrade SLL_LEG component in GTS system to the same version.
I personaly dont think its required, but check Service markeplace for, PAM Product-availability-matrix and other ehp 7 requirements..
    Hope this helps,

  • Migration from physical server to zone (solaris 10)

    Hello all,
I found an old thread about the subject Migrate Solaris 10 Physical Server to Solaris 10 Zone but i have a question.
Using the flarcreare command, will add to the flar archive all the zpools i have in the server?. Right now we have 14 zpools.
    If i execute this command "flarcreate -n "Migration File" > -S -R / -x /flash /flash/Migration_File-`date '+%m-%d-%y'`.flar" will take all the zpools?
This is for migrating from a E25k Server to a M9k Server
The E25k (Physical Server) have this release "Solaris 10 10/08 s10s_u6wos_07b SPARC" and the zone server (M9k) have this release "Oracle Solaris 10 8/11 s10s_u10wos_17b SPARC" this could be an issue?
    Thanks for any help.

flarcreate will only include data from the root pool (typically called rpool). The odds are that this is what you actually want.
Presumably, on a 25k you would have one pool for storing the OS and perhaps home directories, etc. This is probably from some sort of a disk tray. The other pools are likely SAN-attached and are probably quite large (terabytes, perhaps). It is quite likely that instead of creating a multi-terabyte archive, you would instead want an archive of the root pool (10's to 100's of megabytes) and would use SAN features to make the other pools visible to the M9000.
One thing that you need to do that probably isn't obvious from the documentation is that you will need to add dataset resources to the solaris10 zone's configuration to make the other zpools visible in the solaris10 zone. Assuming that these other pools are on a SAN, the zpools are no longer imported on the 25k, and the SAN is configured to allow the M9000 to access the LUNs, you will do something like the following for each zpool:
    # zpool import -N -o zoned=on +poolname+
    # zonecfg -z +zonename+ "add dataset; set name=+poolname+; end"In the event that you really do need to copy all of the zpools to the M9000, you can do that as well. However, I would recommend doing that using a procedure like the one described at http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23824_01/html/821-1448/gbchx.html#gbinz. (zfs send and zfs recv can be used to send incremental streams as well. Thus, you could do the majority of the transfer ahead of time, then do an incremental transfer when you are in your cut-over window.)
If you are going the zfs send | zfs recv route and you want to consolidate the zpools into a single zpool, you can do so, then use dataset aliasing to make the zone still see the data that exists in multiple pools as though nothing changed. See http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23824_01/html/821-1448/gayov.html#gbbst and http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23824_01/html/821-1460/z.admin.task-11.html#z.admin.task-12.

  • SAP Data Migration from R/3 4.6C to ECC 6.0

    Hey All
We are planning to upgrade SAP R/3 4.6C to ECC 6 in near future. I am aware that data migration is not an issue as upgrade takes care of it all. What we are concerned with is that if after a few days of upgrade when the system is functional and users have performed some quantum of transactions on it, in case if the system fails then and we have to revert back to R/3 4.6C how can we get back all the information that we processed on ECC back to R/3.
I would like to know if anyone who has performed an upgrade, had some kind of fail over strategy for such a situation. Is there some tool we can use for this purpose?
    Regards
    Bilal Nazir

    > What we are concerned with is that if after a few days of upgrade when the system is functional and users have performed some quantum of transactions on it, in case if the system fails then and we have to revert back to R/3 4.6C how can we get back all the information that we processed on ECC back to R/3.
    Simple answer: not possible.
    > I would like to know if anyone who has performed an upgrade, had some kind of fail over strategy for such a situation. Is there some tool we can use for this purpose?
No - there is no tool.
Table structures change, update programs changed - it's not possible to "roll back" that to a date and re-do it on 4.6c again.
Do minimize the risk I would copy the production system to a sandbox, do the upgrade and let the (key-) users test their functionality intensively.

  • SAP Printer migration from AIX to windows

    Dear Experts,
We migrated our ECC from AIX to Windows.
We want to migrate printers from AIX to windows.
Do we have to create queues from scratch in SPAD?
Can we use existing queues in SPAD?
Please guide what all steps are required.
Your help will be highly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Harry

    Hi Hary,
For windows environment you need to change the spool server hostname in SPAD and activate all the relevant printers.
Please check whether you had any network printers configured on AIX host. You can use command
    smitty spooler  or
    lpstat -W -p<queuename>
If there are any spoolers configured for SAP system, you need to recreate them on windows.
    Hope this helps.

  • SAP Portal Migration from 6.0 to 7.0 - ESS/MSS

    Hi,
We are planning to upgrade Portal from 6.0 to 7.0 along with ECC to 6.0. We have many customization done in ESS/MSS and we want to keep the same customization in the newer version of portal. Can you please let us know how to achieve this ? I know that we need to be in synch with ECC version for ESS/MSS, so we are upgrading BP for ESS/MSS as well.
    Thanks,
    Vinit

When you say customization, are you talking about Webdynpro code changes made to the standard ESS/MSS applications ?
Unfortunately, the source code changes cannot be migrated with the click of a button when you upgrade.
The process is to manually look and compare the changes made by you in the old track (assuming you used NWDI) and the changes delivered by SAP in the new track using the Metadata comparison tool in NWDS.
If you want more explanation - refer to the attachment document (NWDI Cookbook for XSS) of SAP Note 872892.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/c4/2910411db1d349e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
As Sunny has suggested above, you might be able to use some of the existing backend configuration/customization as is and the rest would need some tweaks.
    Thanks,
    Shanti

  • MIgration from physical servers to Oracle Solaris Containers

We are in process of migrating our Oracle Databases from a physical SUN SPARC servers to Oracle Solaris Container.
Do we need to any extra setting in the Oracle side or server side in a virtualized environment to run Oracle databases?
Any comment will be of help.
    Thanks
    Abdul

Oracle databases work fine in zones.
Some planing is required to find out if you need to use dedicated cpus or other resource management options.
Use projects to set the appropriate memory settings.
Depending on the versions of the databases the installer may choke and complain about missing entries in /etc/system (like shminfo_shmmax) but they can be safely ignored.

  • SAP BW migration from oracle bi with BO

We have presently Orcale BI with BO and we want to migrate in to SAP BW 7.0 . We have SAP SD,MM,FI,Self service,QM module for reporting with MDM . We have do solution design and rollouts . Is it we require functional people for this project. Is it BO-BI integration project? . We are considering BW,BO,EP,ABAP, basis and function module people . Is it this staffing is correct ?.
How we can do existing orcale BI with BO to SAP BW 7.0 . we have 46 system as of now and we want to migrate all to SAP BW . What is the approch for this .
    Thanks
    RB

    Hi,
Recently I have done similar kindly of implementation (Green field)
    Assumption
Existing report are fixed no more requirement changes
    Best approach
BODS is more flexible to load data to BW and reduce abap coding by 70% instead of Oracle to BW
    Go by phase wise
Please kindly see answer are inline
Is it we require functional people for this project.
Yes we need them but for touch basis not full time. (At the time of requirement and reconciliation )
Is it BO-BI integration project? .
    Yes
We are considering BW,BO,EP,ABAP, basis and function module people . Is it this staffing is correct ?.
EP no need according to your requirement your are not going by portal
    You may required below stuffing
Primary stuffing ( one who will be there end to end for project and experience level above 5 years )
Project Manager/Technical Manager - if he is good in BW ( most welcome)
BODS(2) - 1. strong knowledge with BW and BODS integration developer and BW knowledge
              2. Database modelling consultant for to split master data and Transaction data and mapping document.
(usually oracle has master data and transaction data in single table but bw will have separate table)
BW(1) -  one Strong Techno functional
BO(1) -  one strong knowledge with BO and BW integration consultant.
ABAP(1) - One strong in BW Modelling along with BW ABAP
    BASIS(1)
    BO Admin(1)
Secondary stuffing (experience level less than 3 years )
    BW(3) - Three Reporting developer
    BO(2) - Two Reporting developer
    ABAP(1)
    Please do let me know

  • Upgrade from SAP R/3 4.6C to SAP ECC 6.0

    Dear All,
Our organisation has been running SAP R/3 4.6C on Solaris 8 with Oracle 8i database. We are considering an upgrade to SAP ECC 6.0.
I have already checked the SAP Marketplace (Product Availability Matrix) and found that SAP R/3 4.6C first needs to be upgraded to mySAP ERP 2004 (SAP ECC 5.0) and then from SAP ECC 5.0 to SAP ECC 6.0.
My first question is whether I am on the right track.
Secondly, I was going through various SAP Upgrade strategies and curious to know the difference between technical upgrade and functional upgrade.
Please correct me if I am wrong - technical upgrade is when you technically upgrading the SAP ECC release from 4.6C to 5.0 (that is, upgrading Operating System, Database and ECC).
Once it has been completed, business processes (functional modules) need to be remapped. The development needs to be reworked upon (Modification Adjustment). This is what is known as functional upgrade.
I would appreciate if someone throws some light on my understanding on this subject.
    Regards.
    Wolfgang.

    > Our organisation has been running SAP R/3 4.6C on Solaris 8 with Oracle 8i database. We are considering an upgrade to SAP ECC 6.0.
Oh.. you're aware of the fact, that Oracle 8 as well as Solaris 8 is out of support?
I would do it like (if you need/want to stay on the same hardware):
    - upgrade Oracle 8 (I hope your run 8.1.7.4) to Oracle 9.2.0.8
    - upgrade Solaris 8 to Solaris 10
    - upgrade Oracle 9.2.0.8 to Oracle 10.2.0.4 + latest interim patches
    - use kernel 46D_EX2
    - upgrade the 4.6c to ERP 6.0
Be aware, that, if you plan to use Java applications (such as the Enterprise Portal or other Netweaer related appliation), the ERP 6.0 must be converted to Unicode.

  • Data load into SAP ECC from Non SAP system

    Hi Experts,
I am very new to BODS and I have want to load historical data from non SAP source system  into SAP R/3 tables like VBAK,VBAP using BODS, Can you please provide steps/documents or guidelines on how to achieve this.
    Regards,
    Monil

    Hi
In order to load into SAP you have the following options
    1. Use IDocs. There are several standard IDocs in ECC for specific objects (MATMAS for materials, DEBMAS for customers, etc., ) You can generate and send IDocs as messages to the SAP Target using BODS.
    2. Use LSMW programs to load into SAP Target. These programs will require input files generated in specific layouts generated using BODS.
    3. Direct Input - The direct input method is to write ABAP programs targetting on specific tables. This approach is very complex and hence a lot of thought process needs to be applied.
The OSS Notes supplied in previous messages are all excellent guidance to steer you in the right direction on the choice of load, etc.,
However, the data load into SAP needs to be object specific. So targetting merely the sales tables will not help as the sales document data held in VBAK and VBAP tables you mentioned are related to Articles. These tables will hold sales document data for already created articles. So if you want to specifically target these tables, then you may need to prepare an LSMW program for the purpose.
To answer your question on whether it is possible to load objects like Materials, customers, vendors etc using BODS, it is yes you can.
Below is a standard list of IDocs that you can use for this purpose to load into SAP ECC system from a non SAP system.
    Customer Master - DEBMAS
    Article Master - ARTMAS
    Material Master - MATMAS
    Vendor Master - CREMAS
Purchase Info Records (PIR) - INFREC
    The list is endless.........
In order to achieve this, you will need to get the functional design consultants to provide ETL mapping for the legacy data to IDoc target schema and fields (better to ahve sa tech table names and fields too). You should then prepare the data after putting it through the standard check table validations for each object along with any business specific conversion rules and validations applied. Having prepared this data, you can either generate flat file output for load into SAP using LSMW programs or generate IDoc messages to the target SAPsystem.
If you are going to post IDocs directly into SAP target using BODS, you will need to create a partner profile for BODS to send IDocs and define the IDocs you need as inbound IDocs. There are few more setings like RFC connectivity, authorizations etc, in order for BODS to successfully send IDocs into the SAP Target.
Do let me know if you need more info on any specific queries or issues you may encounter.
    kind regards
    Raghu
