SAP EP Sizing Queries

All,
We have designed a clustered architecture of two SAP J2ee Engines ( one central instance
and a dialog instance ) with no fail over option . I used quick sizer tool for initial sizing .
My queries are
1) In the quick sizer , I got 2800 SAPS for Enterprise Portal . Does it mean that the J2ee Engine ( Central instance ) has to be powered
with 2800 SAPS ?
2) What about the other J2ee engine ( dialog instance ). Is it have to be the same 2800 or 2800/2 ?
3) In your experience , do you give equal power ( SAPS ) to both  dialog and central instance ?
4) There are other components in the portal like ESS/MSS , LSO .So do we need to calculate the SAPS for each of these and add to
central instance and Dialog instance ?
5) The portal Database in a separate box , Quick sizer doesn't give any idea how to size this .Any clue about this ?
Aneez

Hi,
If 2800 is the total SAPS required, then one would distribute the SAPS between database host, central instance and application host. there is no rule of thumb that CI should have more SAPS than DI, it depends on how you architect the design. ALso hardware vendors inputs would be helpful. Each server would be sized for optimum SAPS>. If you have not considered EsS/MSS or LSO during the initial sizing then ou need to reconsider it or look for additional hardware for the aextra SAPS.
Between the DB and CI, one could distribute the SAPS 40/60.
Also for each CPU, you should consider 2 - 4 GB of RAM, dependending on what hardware you choose.
Hope this helps,
Chetan

  • SAP Hardware sizing for "User-Based sizing".

    Short Text
    User-based Hardware Sizing
    Long Text
    Dear SAP Support,
We would like to know the SAP Hardware sizing for "User-Based sizing".
    Our queries is
    1. In "User-Based sizing", What we have to consider,
the number of users are calculated in the basis of
Concurrent users in the system in a given point of time
    or
total number of users logged into the systems in the whole day?
We have referred the SAP document "Sizing SAP System" and the above
    point are not clearly mentioned.
    Regards,

As the document says there are number of possible definitions for "users" in SAP context...
For understanding assume that no of users logged to the system they consume different resources / areas in the system, some login to the system whole day but they don't work whole day, some user open multiple session to work while other open multiple session but they don't exactly work on it which means (every new session consume memory/resources) like you said their are concurrent users wherein they work and consume resources (SAP WPs)
So before finalizing the sizing first compare the both reports (user based, thorhgput) and read the advantages and disadvantages for both. You can also consult with SAP / Account Manager to help you
as per SAP document there's no point in counting no of pc's, laptops to calculate no of users

  • How Many SAP BW BEx Queries can be embedded in a Universe

    Hi,
I need to create 5 reports based on five different SAP BW BEx Queries. These are charts with 3- axes i.e. X,Y,Z.
The example requirement is to create Line charts (Vertical Mixed Line Charts) and deatils are as follows: The chart should show CPU Utilization % for different servers (eg. Servers1,2,3,4,5) for each day in a particular month.
    Axes details:
    X- Axis - Date eg: 01 /09/2010 to 30/09/2010
    Y-Axis - CPU Utilisation Percent
    Z-Axis - Servers from 1 to 5
The above detailed chart comes from a BEx Query . In this way there are four more BEx queries which should give four other charts.
My query is: Is this possible to have five different BEx queries in a single Universe and Create 5 different charts(one chart from each BEx Query) in a single tab as in the current manual report.
(All the five Line charts should be downloadable to a single sheet in Excel)
One more, should I use Web intelligence only? Is any other tool that helps for this requirement.
    Please advise.
    Nanda Kishore.

    Answers for your qns:
Is this possible to have five different BEx queries in a single Universe ?? NO
Create 5 different charts(one chart from each BEx Query) in a single tab as in the current manual report. ?? YES
All the five Line charts should be downloadable to a single sheet in Excel ?? Possible- YES
should I use Web intelligence only? *WebI * or  Data Federator
    Nanda Kishore,
As you are in SAP BI, I suggest you to go with BO Universe==>>WebI or DataFederator.
    Solution for your problem:
Sol1 : Why you are creating 5 BEx queries?? Is there any calculations or restrictions??
YES, then Design 5 Universes for each BEx query.
@ WebI Report: Develop report/chart based on Universe-1 and in BO query panel click on Add Query and do it for 4 other Universes.
Save all Charts in single report. (After running second time query, it will prompt for 3 opt's: 1. Insert new report  2. Insert data with in the existing report 3. Indulge objects without creating new report )
Here, go with Opt:2 or Opt3 or opt:1, no problem. And develop all Charts in single report by just dragging & dropping chart type and objects to it.
    Now your problem solved.
Sol2: If no need of 5 BEx queries: Just drag all the Characteristics, Keyfigures and other what you want for Charting.
@Designer: Design Universe on top of this BEx master query.
@ Report : use this Universe and drag objects to 5 diff charts.
    Hope you got it.
    Thank You!!

  • SAPS in sizing Guide

    Hi
Can you please help me to find out more details about processor in MDM sizing?
From CPU I got result: 6500 I do not know how can I find processor, can you help me ?
    I found something here:
    http://aroundsap.blogspot.com/2007/09/sap-hardware-sizing-and-benchmarking.html
but that is not exactly what I am looking for.
Many thanks for finding CPU type.
My result for RAM is 10 GB do you think that is correct, we have 8 repositories?
I think my calculation is correct - I just woult like to have others consultancy
    Thank you in advance.
    Have a nice day.
    BR
    Michal

    Hi ,
SAP periodically benchmarks different servers and indicates their SAPS. Visit:
    http://www.sap.com/solutions/benchmark/index.epx
Select on the right under SD Benchmarks ->"SD two-tier results" (as NW MDM is more similar to a 2 tier architecture).
A table will open with all benchmarked server's SAPS results.
    The list updates periodically.
You can download it to a text delimited file.
Hard to indicate regarding the RAM you received without having more details.
The calculation should be done for each repository on the server separately and then added up.
Generally, 10GB memory seems a resonable result.

    Hedda Cohen.

  • SAP BW Bex Queries as Data source WIS 10901 Error while refreshing

    Hi,
I have created a Web Intelligence report based on Universe upon SAP BEx queries.
When I refresh the report, I get the following error:
A database error occured. The database error text is: the supplied XML is not valid. [Measures].[4ASYKV5XU5T].(WIS 10901)
Report was fine for a day. I started showing error from today.
This is my first report and Universe based on SAP BEx queries. I do not have knowledge of SAP system as well.
    Please help.
    Nanda Kishore B

    Hey Nanda kishore B,
It is because that Measure object definition changed @BEx.  Measures.4ASYKV5XU5T
Can you check @BEx query for any latest changes??
    OR
    Go to Universe Designer:
    1. Open Universe
    2. View == Refresh Structure
    3. Can you see any updates now?? OK
    4. Save Universe
    5. Export it
Now open the Report. It will work now, if all Objects are there at Bex query & Universe level.
Along with this Do integrity check @Universe also before exporting.

  • SAP Spool Request Queries

    Hi all,
I have few queries regarding spool in slap. I will be glad if some one can help me.
    1. In SP01 what is the difference between print directly & print with changed parameters.
    2. If a spool request is in waiting status for a long time, what does it mean.
    3. If a user wants to reprint his document again what should i do.
    4. what i have do to use users OS level printer as SAP printer. i mean if a user has given a print if SAP couldnt able to find printer it will be in error status. In this case i want to reprint that document from users OS level default printer.
    5. What are the regular spool problems and resolutions.
    ding
    Kindly help me regarding this.
    Thanks in advance

    hi Mahesh,
    1. Print directly will send the spool req. to the printer defined for the user id, with changed parameter, the user can redirect the spool request to be printed on any other printer defined. There are other options of changing the priority etc.
    2. That means that all your spool work processes have been occupied by other spool requests and the request is waiting for the work process to be released.
    3. The user needs to give the spool request no. in sp01 and then print it going forward.
    4. There are 2 workarounds for this
    i. you have to define the locl printer same as for your OS in SAP and maintain that as locl in spad.
ii. Follow point 3 and reprint it using any other printer available.
    5. No definite answer to that. Its an ocean to explore :D.
    Thanks!
    Rahul.

  • SAP Archiving Sizing

    Hello,
I am attempting to determine the sizing requirements for the native SAP data archiving capability. I realize that sizing requirements are dependent upon an upfront analysis of the potential archiving objects, however, I'm simply trying to get an idea for planning purposes. At this point we are only looking at native SAP functionality and not 3rd party tools or storage. I would like to know how CPU and RAM will be affected when reporting runs are executed on archived objects. There are no sizing algorithms or documentation specific to archiving that I have been able find online.
    Thanks.

    Hi Christopher,
Do you have an oss id?  If so, there is a document out on www.service.sap.com/ilm titled "Performance Aspects of Data Archiving".  This document is located if you scroll down within the "News" box in the upper right hand corner.
This white paper discusses the relationship between data archiving and system performance. It demonstrates under which circumstances data archiving can help improve the performance of a system, and which concrete steps must be taken to achieve this goal.
    Hope this helps.

  • SAP GRC Sizing guidelines

    Hi,
Is there any sizing tools available for a GRC installation on Windows and Oracle? I have used the quicksizer tool to size core components such as ERP, however I have not come across any tools or documentation that give guidance for sizing GRC.

  • SAP system sizing

    Hello,
Using quicksizer tool, the result is obtained in SAPS.
Couldyou please provide the formula or approximation of how to calculate the system resoources based on SAPS.
    Thanks.

    Hi Gautam,
Just start a Quicksizer and it will open a new window..there  select the option
"for beginner" where you will get a detailed understanding of QuickSizer tool.
Basically it is helpful when you are going to do a userbased or throughput sizing.
Please have a look at the documentation on service.sap.com/quicksizing ->
Quick Sizer tool -> Using the Quick Sizer -> Beginners ->
The buttons inside the project are shelf explanatory.
Let me know if anything is not clear.

  • SAP CE SIZING

    Dear All,
We are planing to Implement the SAP BPM in our land scape.
How ever  we are about start the Sizing for the Hardware.
I tried searching the Quick sizer in the service market place but i did not find any clue.
Could any one help us for the sizing SAP CE
    Awaiting for your reply.

    Hi,
Try the Quick Sizer tool in the following way:
    - Customer no. = 188213
    - Project Name = A
    - Click 'Display Projects'
    - In the search box use 'CE'
    - Check the 'Match whole word' box below the search box
That should give you some results. You'll see a SAP Netweaver Composition Environment sizing option. That should get you started although it looks like it CE 7.1 related.

  • How to avoid Unicode errors in SAP custom code queries.

Currently we are going for a non Unicode technical upgrade from 4.6C to ECC 6.0.
We have many query infosets with custom ABAP code. Unable to execute these queries (infosets) as ECC 6.0 system is throwing short dump and query infoset editor throwing Unicode syntax errors . Anyway to avoid these Unicode errors by changing query or infoset system setting.
We will proceed with infosets ABAP code Unicode remediation if the above is not feasible.
    Thanks in advance.

If the infosets are with custome abap code let the UCCHECK be happen on these programs in ecc6 ..
In tcode UCCHECK the code which needs to be replaced for the custom programs  will be provided for the abap developers . All programs in ecc6 should be ucc compliant . I hope this will happen with the abap upgrade by enabling ecc6 .
they will enable ecc check and do the code modification for moving out the obselete statements in ecc6 which were ok for 4.6c then .
Dont worry about the dumps as this will not take much time on a single program once the UCC is over ..

  • SAP Quick Sizing

When you are in the quick sizer, there are elements that are listed in the tool by functional area. The question I have is, a way to use the element to find out what SAP tables are tied to these elements in SAP. I am dealing with gathering data in existing SAP instance to bench mark the volume information. Is there a way to see what SAP tables are tied to the elements in quick sizer tool? Where and how can I see them?
    Thanks

I was struggling with the same problem before. There's no easy way of pulling the data out. However, if you have installed the ST/A-PI addon (for early watch alerts) you can use transaction ST14 and do a run for the specific modules and see the amount of entries in the tables. Otherwise you'll need to dig through the application tables using SE16 (or SQL) with the help of some application guy/girl or by digging yourself.
