    Hi SAP Seniors/Experts,
This has reference to SAP Career Guidance.
Let me brief you, I m student of Victoria University and pursuing Master of Business in ERP at Singapore. In this course they are covering 7 modules of SAP which would be overall view of SAP system.
I found that each module demands in depth research wherein the university is going to provide general views on each module.
I would like to have your advice on SAP career journey. I do understood that i need to gain mastery in any one module to start employment with any organization. As such you seniors have vast experience in SAP, would you pl. advise me which module should pick up to gain in-depth knowledge looking towards to future demand. I m likely to finish Master of Business in ERP by Jan 2009.
    Seeking your guidance.
    Sincerely,
    Devang Nandha

    Dear Devang Nandha,
    A very relevant question.
I feel that you should gain good knowledge in one of the modules. Please do not select the module based on the popularity. Select the module based on your work expereince and your interest. Trust me there is enough in any module to learn and to contribute.
Devang, you are in a very good position as you have the choice of selecting the module. Make the most of this opportunity. For any specific query, please let me know.
Welcome to SAP world and best of luck for your future endeavors.

  • Guidance for SAP HANA

    Hi Everyone,
I am working in SAP BI 4.1 and wanted to learn SAP HANA. Please suggest me, about I’ll focus on admin part or in development side of SAP HANA. Please suggest on this.
    Regards
    Ashu

    Hi Ashu Goel,
In many cases, Reporting on the HANA Views is done through the BI tools Like Lumira, Explorer, Webi(Via Universe) and so on...
So I would suggest you to concentrate on the following:
    1) HANA development side --> Where you should learn how to effectively create different views like Analytical/Calculation and so on.
This would help you to understand how to model the source data for meeting Business requirements and in this process its obvious that you will be going through the various provisioning methods like DXC, SLT(Important) and so on...
    2) HANA Views/BI tools integration side --> How to connect the created HANA views to the various tools like Lumira, Explorer and so on.
HANA Admin side would not be a suitable option for you to start with...

  • Regarding career in SAP HANA

    Hi,
I am in confused state from past 6 months.
I have been working in SAP ABAP from past 5 years and from last 6 months I have been learning SAP HANA modelling and implementation side by side. I have learned below topics in the same.
    a.) SLT/LT replication.
    b.) Information models.
    c.) Procedures and SQL.
But now when I am going for any interview they are expecting below things also from me which I have no idea.
    a.) SAP BW prior experience.
b.) Any reporting tool experience. like BO or lumira
c.) Any DB experince like ORACLE or SQL.
Can someone please guide which area should I go for?
I just havn't opted for ABAP on HANA because I cannot see much openings for the same.
Secondly if I start learning ABAP on HANA will my above knowledge I gained in last 6 months will go waste?
Please guide me with your valuable comments.
    Thanks and Regards
    Sumeet

The demise of ABAP has been predicted as imminent for at least fifteen years. Yet here we still are.
Not all SAP installations will exploit HANA modelling and development. If you want to go that way, learn to use ABAP, the HANA tools and python really well, and gain experience.
If you want to stay as an ABAPper I can't really see anything that will prevent that in the next ten years.

  • SAP HANA modelling Standalone

    Hello Experts,
We are in the process of HANA Standalone implementation and design studio as reporting tool. When I am modeling, I did not figure out answers to some of the below questions .Below are the questions. Experts, please help.
Best way of modeling: The SAP HANA LIVE is completely built on calculation view; there are no Attribute and Analytical views. I have got different answer why there is only Calculation view and there are no Alaytic view and Attribute views. We are in SP7 latest version. This is a brand new HANA in top of non-SAP (DB2 source).  What is the best way to model this scenario, meaning, can we model everything in the Calculation view’s like SAP HANA live or do you suggest using the standard attribute, analytical and calculation views to do the data model. Is SAP moving away from AV & AT to only calculation Views to simply the modeling approach?
Reporting: We are using the design studio as front end tool. Just for example, if we assume that we are
Using the BW, we bring all the data in to BW from different sources, build the cubes and use the bex query. Here in bex query we will be using the restricted key figures, calculated key figures calculations etc. From the reporting wise, we have the same requirements, calculations, RKF, CKF,Sum, Avg etc. if we are Using the design studio on top of standalone HANA, where do I need to implement all these calculations? Is it in different views?  (From reporting perspective, if it’s BW system, I would have done all the calculations in BEx.)
Universe: If we are doing all the calculations in SAP HANA like RKF. CKF and other calculations , what is the point in having additional layer of universe , because the reporting compnets cam access the queries directly on views .In one of our POC , we found that the using universe affect performance.
Real time reporting: Our overall objective is to give a real time or close to real time reporting requirements, how data services can help, meaning I can schedule the data loads every 3 or 5 min to pull the data from source. If I am using the Data services, how soon I can get the data in HANA, I know it depends on the no of records and the transformations in between the systems & network speed. Assuming that I will schele the job every 2 min and it will take another 5 min to process the Data services job , is it fair to say the my information will be available on the BOBJ tools with in 10 min from the creation of the records.
Are there any new ETL capabilities included in SP7, I see some additional features included in SP7. Is some of the concepts discussed are still valid, because in SP7 we have star join concept.
    Thanks

    >> I haven't read any "official" guidance to move away from typical modeling approach, so I'd say stick with the usual approach- AT, then AV, then CA views. I was told that the reason for different approach with HANA Live was to simplify development for mass production of solutions.
Reporting: We are using the design studio as front end tool. Just for example, if we assume that we are
Using the BW, we bring all the data in to BW from different sources, build the cubes and use the bex query. >> I'm not a BW guy, but from a HANA perspective - implement them where they make the most sense. In some cases, this is obvious - restricted columns are only available in Analytic Views. Hard to provide more complex advice here - it depends on your scenario(s). Review your training materials, review SCN posts and you should start to develop a better idea of where to model particular requirements. (Most of the time in typical BI scenarios, requirements map nicely to straightforward modeling approaches such as Attribute/Analytic/Calculations Views. However, some situations such as slowly-changing dimensions, certain kinds of calculations (i.e. calc before aggregation with BODS as source - where calculation should be done in ETL logic) etc can be more complex. If you have specific scenarios that you're unsure about, post them here on SCN.
Universe: If we are doing all the calculations in SAP HANA like RKF. CKF and other calculations , what is the point in having additional layer of universe , because the reporting compnets cam access the queries directly on views .In one of our POC , we found that the using universe affect performance.
    >>> Depends on what you're doing. Universe generates SQL just like front-end tools, so bad performance implies bad modeling. Generally speaking - universes *can* create more autonomous reporting architecture. But if your scenario doesn't require it - then by all means, avoid the additional layer if there's no added value.
Real time reporting: Our overall objective is to give a real time or close to real time reporting requirements, how data services can help, meaning I can schedule the data loads every 3 or 5 min to pull the data from source. >>> Not exactly sure what your question here is. Your limits on BODS are the same as with any other target system - doesn't depend on HANA. The second the record(s) are committed to HANA, they are available. They may be in delta storage, but they're available. You just need to work out how often to schedule BODS - and if your jobs are taking 5 minutes to run, but you're scheduling executions every 2 minutes, you're going to run into problems...

    Hi Pavanet,
you can find more info on the SAP HANA-optimized BI Content and the supported areas following this link:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw74/helpdata/en/28/a1065182d3c557e10000000a44176d/frameset.htm
The SAP HANA-optimized content does contain physical InfoProviders and adheres to the LSA++ architecture paradigm as to reduce persistencies where possible and if it makes sense. One purpose is to provide a guidance of data modelling in the SAP BW on HANA case making use of recent SAP BW features.
For the near future a switch to the recent BW Infoproviders (advanced) DSO and CompositeProvider is planned.

  • SAP HANA for functional consultants

    Hi
I have rich experience of 9+ yrs in SAP MM/WM/SD/SRM (certified in these modules) (and over all 16+ yrs) all through implementations and rollouts.
Now I am feeling stagnated in my career; wanted to make it more techno-functional; SAP HANA is a buzz word.
Wanted to move into it after doing certification; but have the following queries:
Will it be a right decision to move into it without any prior BI/BW experience.
Will I get an entry into new projects of SAP HANA.
Does BI/BW experience preferred over other SAP module/functional  experience; in which case it will be a difficult enviro to compete.
I have explored job portals and every one wants prior BI/ABAP/Tech experience.
I am worried will I be loosing by entering into HANA or shall I go further in my logistics area only for explorations.
The market I am working in is US and Australia.
    Please suggest;
    Thank you.
    Kim

It will really be helpful if I can get some insight from the perspective of
a functional consultant as nothing concrete has been said on the approach to be
    followed.
The answer were helpful but I am looking for more suggestive help; in that
respect I wrote additionally so that I can reach out to more people for a
    career changing decision.
If you still want to restrict the free flow of ideas then it’s against the
    forum spirit.
I hope my concerns are justified.

  • Right path for sap hana

Is this a right track for a fresher to get into SAP HANA?
I am sap abap consultant and have interest to learn sap hana...
According to me,I wanted to first learn sap bi through a small or local institute and the n go for sap hana training from Sap bangalore center
Is this the right track for me?
    SAP ABAP--->>SAP BI--->>>SAP HANA.
Can anyone guide me about how much experience will be sufficient to gain sap hana?

If you do not have knowledge on SAP BW, BO, BI then also you can learn (career) in HANA. SAP pointed HANA as the in Memory DB as same as the place where all applications going to run in future. If you’re a person known to Database Concepts and having basic Knowledge of SQL will help you to learn SAP HANA at ease.
Since you are an ABAP Consultant the knowledge of ABAP will help you in understanding the business logic implementation. Do not think that ABAP is going to get wind up, it is getting powered by HANA with Smarter, Lighter and Faster that is called ABAP for SAP HANA. Good Career you find while learning HANA with ABAP. Chances of earning $80000 - $160000
Learning HANA Modeling is easy when you have knowledge of BW if not, you will get to it on the class.
You will get to know Business Objects concepts at the time of HANA ideas on Reporting, if you are known to it then you will find your way on HANA Reporting.
SAP Business Intelligence the DW operational tool which helps you to understand implementation ideas from Business Warehouse on HANA viewpoint. If you are not going to work on BW on HANA it is not necessary to learn SAP BI.
So it is not necessary learning SAP BI Before going to SAP HANA but Choose the Platform on which you have planned since there are various types of HANA Certification. If you have still doubts  look into these words http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-39531 for better concepts or talk to top trainers for direct interactions at http://techjobs.sulekha.com/sap-hana-training

  • Inquiry about SAP HANA

    Hello,
I started my SAP Career 10 Years back. I worked as SAP functional consultant for 5 Years.
Now I am managing SAP Projects for the last 5 Years.
I want to move to SAP HANA can anybody tell me if it is possible for a functional consultant like me to  move to SAP HANA.
I do not know BI/BW Basis or ABAP.
    Regards
    Sandip

    Hi,
What happens when we replace SAP Hana with another profession like... hairdresser or florist or lifeguard, or whatever.
Do you think that is possible?
The only problem you would have when switching a profession is the difficulty to persuade others that you're fit for the job, if in the 10 years prior you also never really worked in the same area it becomes even more difficult.
It's not impossible, switching careers is almost always possible.
    Good luck!

  • SAP HANA Database Migration

    Dear Experts,
We are plan to Migrate our BW server 7.2 ( under oracle 11.2 database )  to HANA database.
BW system Hardware is normal ( not HANA supported hardware ) we purchase separate hardware related to SAP HANA
    1. What is the procedure to Migrate oracle database to HANA with Minimum downtime
    2. Both ( Current BW system and HANA machine are different Architecture and Physically in different machine then How can we migrate from SUM with DMO
Because are per different document I read, they can not clear that SUM with DMO process running with same server our BW and HANA server is    different physical machine
kindly guide me what is the procedure with my scenario where BW and HANA are different physical servers
    Regrads

    Dear Shahid,
Inorder to migrate BW on AnyDB(Oracle,DB2...) to HANA DB we can use the DMO option which is the part of the SUM tool.
Generally to migrade any SAP Application from AnyDB to AnyDB we have meet the minimum requirements of the Target and perform some task where will need a downtime. These include
    1) Unicode Conversation
    2) SAP Upgrade of the Application Components in the source system
    3) DB Upgrade of the Source system.
    4) Dual Stack Split
Once the above are satisfied then we need to perform
    1) System Copy Export
    2) Copy the exported files to the Target system
    3) System Copy Import
This would result in two live system
    1) Original source system with source DB
    2) New Migrated System with NewDB
Using the DMO option of SUM we perform Upgrade & Migrate in one step, there by having only one downtime. One of the major feature of DMO is that we do not have to upgrade the DB.
The result of the DMO option in SUM is that the DB of the SAP Application is migrated from AnyDB to HANA DB. The SAP application will continue to run on the original host where it was running prior to migration.
DMO does not move the SAP Application to HANA Appliance/Hardware.
The below links provide the complete information required for using DMO option of SUM Tool
SAP First Guidance - Using the DMO Option to Migrate BW on HANA
Hope that gives some insight regarding the Migration using DMO.
